At least for me it ran like crap. tried native settings to lowest settings and no it ran horrible. i was running 266.35? (the newest beta drivers from nvidia) maybe it was my drivers that sucked.

on an unrelated note. lara croft and the guardian of light works beautifully on the netbook with high details. fun game to boot too.

Has anyone of you guys/gals have this green bar on top of online media players like youtube, hulu, vimeo and such from time to time. It isn't just a green bar on top of the video but also the color is a bit tinted and messy. I would get it from time to time for when i'm watching videos online.

I'm having a problem when overclocking the CPU in setFSB. It is that the two USB-ports on the right side of the laptop stop working. any1 else had this problem?

Running the stock 32bit home prem. Thinking about upgrading it to 64 sometime.

I gotcha, I was wondering if anyone one with 64-bit can confirm that it will recognized the 4gb and not just 2.7 or whatever it is.

I can confirm this. I'm currently running 64bit with 4gb of kingston 1333mhz ram. It recognises the whole 4gb and applications and games are performing a better than before.

How much better than the 2 gigs that come with the machine? Do you think its worth the money for the upgrade? Which applications and games are you seeing improvements in?
    Thanks

I downloaded the guardian of the light on steam and when I try and launch the game it says This game requires a Direct9.0c capable graphics card with ps3.0 support and then closes. What gives?

Well in general use it's made multitasking smoother so when you're opening multiple programs/windows/tabs there is significantly less hang time. Game wise in half life 2:the lost coasr, arkham asylum and stalker i've noticed a 10-20% increase in performance fps wise which can be the difference between lagging and playable on a machine like this, especially with batman - it pushed it into the smooth zone.

I wouldn't recommend getting anything expensive but if you can find some cheap budget ram then its probably worth doing.

You are using a VX6 right? I have this problem too and have given up overclocking. Haven't tried with the new bios thou. Usb 3 ports would just die and i have to restart twice to get them working again.

Out of curiousity what ram are you using and where did you get it from?

I've got a problem with SetFSB. When I overclock my 1215n, my ethernet stops responding, and I'm forced to restart.
I've got the latest BIOS and beta NVIDIA driver. I've been doing this after exiting out of Asus' Hybrid Engine; can't imagine not doing that would help.
This really blows as it's the only way I can make Modern Warfare playable at even nearly the lowest settings. (which contradicts a few reports I've seen this machine should be able to accomplish.)

nope, i am using a 1215n. But it is only the two ports on the right side of the laptop so the one on the left still works. i does not seem to be a heat problem since the computer does not get very hot.

the ports stop working around 1.9 ghz.

Overclocking the fsb seems to not sit well with the ethernet controller in the 1215n. It seems to be very sensitive to fsb frequencies and demonstrates weird interactivity with the rest of the system when subjected to higher clocks.
Some people are ending up with the ethernet adapter being rendered useless under overclocking while others like me get a system wide stutter due to the ethernet adapter.
My remedy for stable overclocking is to disable the LAN adapter in the BIOS. I realise this isn't a viable option for everyone but if you do use wireless and want to overclock then i suggest you try this as it does help allot.

For those experiencing usb problems i suggest you try disabling the LAN in the BIOS aswell to see if that clears it up.

Im currently using a 2x2gb kit of 1333mhz ddr3 kingston RAM from play.com. Each 2gb chip was £16.99 so it was £33.98 in total.
But like i said before, any cheap ddr3 will do because speed is irrelevant due to it running at 800mhz in this machine which is below normal ddr3 speeds.

I'm using a VX6 and my usb3 ports on the right side would give way. Maybe i'll give disabling the lan and then try to overclock see how it goes.

Download the files here. I'm a little fuzzy as to how to make a bootable USB stick with Win7 on it, but there you go. If you have an external DVD-ROM handy you can just burn the .iso to disc and off you go.

I'm thinking about getting the 1215n but the reports of serious flex on the keyboard are putting me off. I would be using this laptop for a lot of essay writing so really need a good keyboard. Another alternative I'm looking at is a Dell m101z but I've read reports of a very noisy fan on that machine?

you'd need the dell m301z (13") surely? with its dual core CPU to be similar to the Asus?

Other alternatives is to wait for the new AMD Fusion based chipset netbooks like the HP DM1z etc

The keyboard flex on this machine really isn't that bad. It is there but its only noticable if you take your finger and press down hard in the middle of the keyboard. I haven't ever seen it as a problem during the extensive typing i've done on this machine.

As for the dell m101z I have also heard that the fan does kick out quite a bit of noise due to the machine producing a fair bit of heat. It runs hotter, louder and has less battery life than the 1215n, however it is a more stable performer and comes with a dell warranty which is the best warranty you will on the market if anything goes wrong.

I am having a weird issue lately, while playing WoW I am getting 30-50 fps while playing and everything is running smoothly. But every couple of minutes I get weird stutters my fps drops to <10. After a few seconds it jumps back up. Has anyone has an issue like this? Is it driver related?

Unrelated, but as for the person who asked about installing Windows 7 64-bit, this is the guide that I used to create the bootable USB drive. Guide

Hey OOGAMAR (and anybody else reading this)

I just upgraded from 2GB RAM to 3GB, of course only gaining 0.74ish GB in the process (due to the limitation).

Will I still notice a difference?

Also, I wouldn't recommend the current 260.99 drivers. Because with them, Crysis starts to glitch with all sorts of dark artifacts.

    I'd stick with 259.64.

When playing any sort of video or browsing pictures, does it feel slow? I notice when you skip a video on windows media player from 1 min to 8 or whatever, it takes like 2-3 sec delay then resumes play. Another thing is if you go to my pictures and start viewing photos to browse em, the movement isn't snappy like there is some kind of lag.

Is this because of the atom cpu eventhough it is new and dual core it will still be anemic compared to turion x2 or c2d ulv versions?

If it's anything like my G51vx, power saving mode also lowered the RPM of the fan, which will make the temperatures rise a tad. Likewise, performance mode grants unlimited power to the fan, so it'll spin faster and cool better.

As for your temperatures, it depends. What are you doing when you notice those temperatures?

Hi, i just got the 1215n, i used it for about 15 minutes but then disasterously i had to go out, so it's charging at home right now. I first want to thank everyone who has posted here for all the helpful advice and links they have given, i know 10x more about this computer now.

bought this to replace my gaming-illiterate Acer Aspire One, and like fiddling with performance settings myself, so looks good so far. As i am going to be using this mainly for casual gaming on the go, i will take any suggestions of games to try out, i may not try them all, but i will do my best.

Games i will be testing soon (later today):
    - Hitman 2 (ran ok on my AAO)
    - Hitman 4 (interested in this one)
    - Warcraft 3 (expecting maximum quality here)
    - WoW (expecting medium settings 30fps+, but i can handle low settings)
    - League of Legends (majorly important for me, hoping the reports of great performance aren't exaggerated)
    - Fable: the lost chapters (not sure about this one, should be good at medium-high)
    - Beyond good and evil (if you know this game, well done. hoping for max settings 30fps+)
    - Garry's Mod (if this works, all source games should be ok, except TF2 apparently, expecting atleast 25fps+ on medium settings)
    - COD black ops (this is a long shot, but it would be awesome if it worked.)

(side note: what is with all the extra software...?? cmon asus... it took 15 minutes for you to get to some useless loading screen, i wanted to perhaps USE the computer....)

i will report back soon on those games.

    Thanks so far.

Exactly right yes Forge is correct. The power saving mode sets cooling to passive only which actually lets the fan turn off which is why the temperatures go so high. Its nothing the chip can't handle though.

This could be a number of things, the atom is a weak processor yes but the hard drive in this thing is also pretty crappy. With 4gb of ram i have found that 'hangs' of this kind occur less probably due to the lessened need for programs to use the paging file. I think it's more the hdd than anything though.

As soon as i get chance i'll check these out along with the new nvidia 266.58 whql's.

    Hi guys,

I just found this site, very good information. As I have just bought the 1215N with a standard setup, could you tell me what graphic drivers should I use to get most out of it, please? I noticed that many suggested new drivers are for 64bit Win7 versions but as I believe the standard Win7 coming with the 1215N is 32 bit version...

Feedback highly appreciated! And yes, here is a newbie ;)

Hi, i wanted to report back some findings from the games i said i would test.

WoW: this was a strange one... one thing that is essential for this game is to turn vsync off! it was reducing me to 2 fps constant, now i can get 50, and about 30 on mid settings.

LoL: Just turn everything down, native res, you can go to medium, but it may lag slightly when major things happen. a playable 17-23 fps here. (for some reason the client runs badly, by client i mean what you create the games from.)

i will add more soon! Very happy so far.

I've bought 1215n for gaming too, but gave it back a week after, got fed up with endless tinkering. It's just "not ready yet", drivers are buggy, bios is crappy and it operates in like 60-80% of it's TTX, depending on gpu drivers used.

I've decided to get brathos-based netbook either 1215B, either HP Pavilion dm1z instead, whitch of them hits my counry's market earlier, as it's more CPU->GPU shifted, just what gaming needs and has native overclocking/downclocking software (drivers might be just as glitchy as ION2's tho).

Maybe you should consider returning 1215n to the shop? Can't tell that you should though, as brathos might be even worse :D

Edit - with the 266.58 drivers im getting way better fps on mass effect. it does not stutter as much and is just smoother. was getting 15-25 frames with the old drivers, new drivers 25-35. gotta try it on other games!

just checked some youtube videos all the way up to 1080p with those drivers and they run smooth. maybe you should uninstall and do a clean install?

checked some flash games as well. all run smooth

Well i've tested the 266.58 drivers and they still produce artifacts in starcraft 2 and crysis warhead. Raw performance seems good but these games are just unplayable like this. The artifact problem has been an issue since the first set of 260.x series drivers. It would help if anyone experiencing these issues would post on the nvidia support forum so something can be done. I have taken these issues up with them myself but since it seems they haven't had that many complaints they could simply dismiss my issues as a one off which we know isn't the case.
So if you have issues playing any games with the nvidia drivers let them know... They can't fix what they don't know about.

    hello all,

Been reading this thread from page 1 up til here and have been trying out oogamars OCs. Its working great! I want to just update you all to say i flashed to bios 605 and while I experienced the HD lag, this vers seems to kick it a bit so its more responsive. Anyone else tried bios 605?

btw i also own the Asus g73j and 1201N.

Hey guys, I know my 1015pn isnt quite the same as the 1215n but since im not getting any help in my thread I thought I might ask these in here.

    1. I too have that HDD clicking, so i was willing to try that notebook hardware control, went to dl off the first post but link doesnt work, so i dled the newest version off of their site, but it doesnt seem to provide the same option as the version hes referring to. I then tried an older version I found on the net but every time I started it, it froze my system. I proceeded to remove it, but now my entire system font is like italicized :( idk how to fix this yet but i was hoping someone could post up the correct version...

    2. Ive tried nvidia system tools and msi afterburner and nothing I seem to do will overclock my ion...its also running at 400/400/800, ill change the frequencies in system tools, hit apply, it seems to take, even gpuz says default clocks have changed but the senors still report 400/400/800 and there is no increase in fps...now i did read in the first post that ive the overclock is too high it wont crash but just revert back to stock speeds but the problem is even if i only overclock by 10mhz or so, it still isnt sticking, what could be the problem?
