aww man, you guys are making me a little jealous. I'll be in Germany until January. I dont think that sweet, sweet f8sv is available here. Even if it was the keyboard will be in German layout and the price is going to be way higher. I hate waiting.

 

I'm beyond pissed.

My payment transaction was declined by Newegg Prefered Accounts. I reviewed my account information and it was all good. I contacted support but they said that they couldn't help me over live chat and I would get a letter in the mail seven days from now explaining why it was declined.

I cancelled and reordered the items. Now using my credit card as the payment offer. Guess what? It was appearently declined for an unspecified reason. I wont even bother calling customer support on that one.

I pissed that I seems to be treated as some kind of credit risk by Newegg. I have good credit, making $75000+ a year, have no debts, and pay off all my credit cards every month. Why this and why now?

I guess the only thing I can come up with is that my Credit Card company once again put some erronous fraud alert on my account. I am from the States but currently living in Germany, so my transactions all over the place, in the States, in Germany, in Scandinavia, on the Internet, etc..... but that's a normal spending pattern for me. Sheesh!

I'm pissed!

1. Is the fan going on continuous when idle mode? Yes, but low rpm. Makes a little bit noise.
2. Does the notebook make any strange noises? Crackling from the hdd as usual. Good chassis, but the mousebuttons makes some annoying sounds. I dont really care bout that, cause I use another mouse
3. How is the sound? Better than W3N. Its louder, but still very poor sound as every laptop has.
4. Have U tested TV-out, any problem there? No, but cant imagine there will be a problem.

OK , the computer looks good but damn the bad part is that the fan is going continuous.

It seems that I can´t find any laptops that is death silence nowdays when idle mood.

I wonder if the asus with turion CPU are death silence...

 

Are there any third party software you can use to clock down the cpu? I dont know if speedswitchxp will work for vista, but for my xp rig it works quite well.

 

Thats not Newegg's fault, get ahold of your cc company this happened to me once because the amount was qiute a bit higher than my NORMAL purchases online so it was declined till I called the card carrier

 

I dont know but if there is I would probably test it (maybe clock it down to 2.0 Ghz ) and see if the fan is going silence in idle mood.

BTW" nice picture, but it is ashame that there aren´t any "media bar" in the keyboard, mute on /off and volyme controller are always welcome.

 

OMG.... why can't Asus be consistent with the FN key placement?

 

Looks like the F8SV-B1 (the one I had my eyes on) is expected mid-December rather than mid-November at Gentech.

 

Dunno if any of you ordered the F8SV-A1, but I just got an email today from ExcaliberPC saying that it's in stock and it'll be shipped out in a day

Once I get it and have some downtime from work, I'll try and do some photos (though I'm pretty new here and don't know if there's any post # requirement before doing that), and do up a review.

Can't wait to get it! Wasn't expecting to hear anything about it for at least a few more weeks

KKND, anything new with the fan issue?

 

Dont think the fan is an issue.

When its idle the fan slows down, but it doesnt turn off.

Regarding heat, dont feel it gets very hot.


BUT, when you put a cd or dvd in the drive and it goes full speed it makes noise and vibrates alittle...

 

is it for a fact that the f8's for the us wont have the tv tuner?

 

I think the F8SV has the tuner, but I am not certain.

 

So the F8SA does not have turbo memory?

 

Both F8SV-A1/B1 has Turbo Memory but no TV Tuner for North America.

 

Any TV tuner sold with a notebook will require FCC approval to be used in the states, Asus does not have one at this time.

F8SA has fingerprint authentication reader but no mention on the turbo memory.

 

this is yet another question, does the f8 w/ati gpu have turbo memory? i dont see any specs listing it

 

If I've got my own copy of Windows Vista Ultimate, I can use the 4GB of RAM, right?

4GB of RAM is so much.

There may be performance hits taken with 4GB installed, however. Reports from multiple users across multiple platforms have suggested this.

After trying to order from ExcaliberPC, I finally found out what's wrong. Appearantly the Credit Card company, of some unknown reason, is listing an old address as my current billing address. With other words the address I put in as the billing address did not match the one they have on file, hence they declined of the charge. Now my credit card is frozen for security reasons.

The credit card company is starting to annoy me. Earlier this year this year they blocked the account for "security reason". My wife got declined trying to pay for groceries at the store which caused her great embarrasment. She called the company and they said that they the blocked the account because they have noticed a large amount of overseas charges. My wife replay to them was "Doh! We live in Germany. Of course there is a lot of overseas charges. A matter of fact, I think that all our charges are overseas charges."

 

First to Gobmonster the gpu has hyper memory, if you were reffering to that

Will try the medium brightness light work now.

Will multitasking and "high performance" setting I think the battery can go 1.5hours. Thats with Word 07, paint, opera and some other stuff.

 

With WLAN on and Bluetooth off, medium brightness the calculator(power in vista) suggests alittle over 2 hours. But with "high performance" settings

With power saving settings on it suggests 2:25 ish..

 

jeez... that sucks for a 14.1" laptop.. My G1s can even do that lol...

 

Well, thats what the computer estimated. In the past Microsoft hasnt shown they are not exact when it comes to estimating time, ex. unrar, copy files etc.

My last 14" from Asus the W3N had pretty much the same batterycapacity, and it wasnt much..

 

Damn only 1 GB RAM is included.


If buying at excaliberpc 1GB Intel Turbo Memory is included, but I don´t thats fast enough compared to 2GB real RAM.


I think I m gonna buy 1 GB more. Anyone knows what type of RAM memory the F8SA is using? Its only says 1024MB DDR2 667MHz . is it SODIMM?

 

1GB turbo memory is standard equipped on all F8SV-A1/B1. You need 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Notebook Memory. Thanks!

 

Well my F8SA has 2gb DDR II 667mhz, two 1gb sticks, dunno how many slots there is..

does anyone know how much vista sp1 will increase battery life?
it's supposedly one of the fixes in sp1...

 

RAM is cheap these days as long as the slots are assessable. Any1 knows if the ram slots are assessable since I am gonna upgrade the ram, I am very picky and I would replace the stock ram as well to have a matching sticks. Don't know if the laptop is dual channel capable because replace matching ram would boost performance if the motherboard supports dual channel
