It's a shame we don't have any insiders at *(insert retailer here)* to tell us that they are getting a shipment of new Asus notebooks on *(insert date just days from now here)*..
*sigh*
In other news, the Nokia W810 is on sale at buy.com for 220.

like i said in the other thread maybe a best buy version of the Asus W90(keeps fingers crossed)
-
the N80Vn-X5 from newegg is really tempting, would you guys recommend buying it now or wait for the N81? or if the N81 comes out, do you think the N80 will become cheaper?
-
As I've always said, 4600m should be the only successor of mid-range mobile video card since 8600m..

Justin from XoticPC has some valuable insight!
-
Neat I would have guessed though considering it's becoming the natural evolution that the midrange will have ddr3 as the high end is moving towards gddr5
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
didnt i say in this thread it would have been DDR3? Doubters where are you?
-
From the review they did on the Compal KHLB2, the 4650 seems like a beast! And the 4670 should be a 4650 with a higher core clock.

Well buhdal at least you admitted it, never doubt the dragon -

Has anyone seen any benchmarks for the GT 130 or 4650 floating around yet? According to Hot Hardware ( here) the closest I could find regarding desktop equivalents (9600 GT vs 4670) show the 9600 GT outperforming the 4670 in every test. I won't claim to know exactly how they will translate as mobile cards, but seeing that the 130 GT will be a faster 9600 GT and the 4650 would, assumedly, be slower than the 4670 it seems straightforward to guess that it will be a similar situation here, no? Please, correct me if you think otherwise
.
-
my guess is the nvidia (weaker im assuming) will be around $1000, and the ati about $1400
-
Quick OT shout out to another Milwaukeean.

-
if they just offer me an n80-x5, id be dumb not to take it, because it would have been $850
If they offer me anything else, i will throw a fit and demand to talk to a manager, because i will not be given anything less than i ordered (or i'd be ok with a refund)
and any one who saw my OT post, i found a temp laptop, so not more rentals!! woot! -

OK, that totally makes sense to me, but when I was digging around some more I've found some more info to contradict that. According to THIS article they say "NVIDIA_G94.DEV_0626.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 130" which I'd take to say G94=GT 130, right? Or does that, again, only apply to the desktop variant? See, I've seen other info that states what you've said, like HERE. The problem is that even on Nvidia's own website they list the GT 130 in the notebook section but make no mention of it in their desktop section. Wouldn't the renaming have already happened on the desktop side as well? Man, I'm seriously confuzzled.
-
This is the mobile version: NVIDIA_G96.DEV_0652.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 130M" -
If i am correct, the 130m should be about the same as the 9650GT...

Ah, OK. So is the ATI 4650 actually the same chip in both desktop and mobile variants or is Nvidia the only one holding the confusion hammer? Well, assuming that I'm not getting tripped up again (which is very possible) I've found some benchmarks of the desktop 4650 vs the 9500 GT HERE. I took all the benchmark scores and averaged them out for each card. Then I added another 17% to the 9500 GT to account for the extra speed in the 130 GT as said to us by Nvidia. My admittedly haphazard results show that the 4650 would be just under 18% faster than the GT 130 if tested at the same resolutions that Mad Shrimps used. Pretty remarkable difference, really. Now I wonder how the batter life for each will compare...
-
AHHHH!
when are these coming out! i want one already. especially after seeing the Compal KHLB2 review. -
Get in line. What's the chance that an LED/High res screen is available for this? I'm talking 1680x1050+
-
1440 x 900 is the highest it will likely go. -

If they go 14.1" 16:9 like MSI, chances are you're gonna get an even lower res... 1366x768! For 16:9, the only other res I've seen is 1920x1080, which I doubt you will find in any laptop less than 15.6".
Wait just realized the Sony Z has 13.1" 16:9 and 1600x900 res... kinda overkill, hopefully more laptops will have that res since that's a good balance but Sony is the only laptop with it, and it's only on their 13.1" model. -
Between the N51TP and N81VP which one has the better battery life? I'm thinking of picking up one or the other but not sure which one yet.
Also can these Asus models be configured with extended batteries?
thanks! -
if the n81 has 16:9, i will call asus and request a manager and yell at them...
just saying -
what do you guys think the n81 w/ a ati4650 will cost?
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
-
@person who asked cost
I was told by a source $1,000-$1,400 -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
i honestly think this notebook is gonna start at $800 im gonna keep my hold on that.
-
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
that cant be true ill explain why ATI GPU's are WAYYYY cheaper then the nvidia GPU's the only reason i can see it being more is because of its a new platform.
For example 9800 GTX SLI is like an $800 option but a 3870 crossfire is only $250 option!!! Think about how much of a price difference that is the 4650/70 is probably only(if you had to pay for the option) gonna be about $100 thats really cheap. We'll have to wait it out i expect 4870 crossfire to only be around $400 at release. -

im interested in seeing if puma 2 will actually end up in this thing im interested in seeing the performance. Though the core 2 will more or less be better.
-
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
well you can have AMD + ATI combo where AMD claims that there CPU's run better with ATI graphics though I dont believe that. Also alot of AMD + ATI notebooks you can disable tha ATI GPU and use the intel GMA.
-
He means Intel + AMD/ATI and you can disable the AMD GPU to use the Intel graphics to save battery life. Just like Puma. But can you crossfire a 3470 with the Intel GMA??
no..
But then again this is Midrange graphics, not entry level. As far as I know, the 3470+3200 HCFX still doesn't beat a single 3650. Correct me if I am wrong though, because if you can get a AMD 4500 + chipset for a crossfire that rivals the 4650 or 4670 and fit into a 12" or 13" with an led and an optical burner, that would be a nice little road warrior. They just need to drop the 45nm chips in with ddr3 to save power and increase performance while lowering temperatures so that they can start competing with Intel.

^bump^ -
i would like to see a p8600 and a 4650 (or 4670) in a $1000 laptop
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
i think thats gonna be possbile
it will also be a DDR3 GPU
im still surprised the 9650 GPU they decided to put in was only DDR2. -
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
any update on that situation?
-
First Hands on Asus N51TP and N81VP w/ATI 4650/GT 130M & AMD Puma 2!
