So Gentech has these as due out by next week at some point. How long do you expect itll take neweg to have these models in? and in various configurations?
-
I'm going stir crazy waiting for something good to bite on.
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Those new lenovo ideapads are also coming out in march. Some are already available.
-
-
i actually just ordered the n80. its true that the ati will beat it but the issue is cost. i only paid 999 for the n80 and i dont want to be paying 13-1400 for the newer model. it doesnt come without cost. for 1350 id just buy a sager with a 9800 in it and get a better screen to boot.
-
regardless, i'm assuming you got the x5 model? -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
theres gonna be a cheaper version if you wait.....trust me on this.
-
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
yeah i can understand that........i like both formats luckily 16:9 and 16:10
-
I'm wondering why asus chose to place the audiojacks in front on the n50 and n51? While the n80/81 got them on the left side...
That, alone, is almost enough to make me go for a 14" instead of a 15" laptop...
btw, I couldn't manage to find a "releasedate" for the n81/n51 in this thread. Anyone knows when they are available? -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
How come the audio jack position bothers you? well i guess to each his own
-
I can't wait for those to come out. I might have to put my ms1651 purchase on hold...
-
it looks as if the N81 has the same chassis as the N80. so it still has that weird design where the primary exaust for the system is on the right hand side, so it blows hot air on your hand if you use a mouse.
there are a couple vents on the bottom but they are passive and do not exaust air. so its all going out the right side. the same side as most users hand.
its a lefty laptop lol -
Gentech estimates a release in the third week of February (That's this week)
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
yep it was suppose to be end of febuary/march so it should be about that time.

Here guys, I found this:
http://www.jr.com/asus/pe/ASU_N81VPC1/
EDIT: 14.1" (1366 x 768) LED Backlit Display
EDIT2: Hmm I just check gentechpc and they have the OS listed as 32bit as the other site has it listed as 64bit. -
will make an attempt for a first post. hi all!
will be left with buying a new laptop within a month or two. was determined on buying the f8va now the n81vx came along. think i can live with the lower resolution, i'm not getting younger... so question is between vp and vg. am trying to compare the gt100m and the mobility radeon hd 4600 but struggeling. i'm also not an expert. read some data that doesn't help me much. any advice is greatly appreciated! -
I must say i`m bit disappointet with the resolution. I have been waiting for this one because the Zepto nox 14 was to expensive for my taste. But the Zepto has 1440x900, and that seem like a better choice of resolution if you want to game and watch movie. I have to admit that i have never gamed with the 1366x768, and i`m not that young anymore..so maybe i should not speak so loud. Anyway can we hope for better resolution with other versions of N81 ??

Hello lust nice to meet you
Anyway, Yes i strongly believe there will be a 1600 x 900 resolution we well have to wait and see -
The ATI card will be significantly faster, as it uses much faster DDR3 memory rather than the Nvidia's DDR2. -
The laptop is for using in the _lap_, right? So the audio-jack i sticking right into your stomach, especially when sitting in confined spaces (bus, trains, flights).
Also, when lying in the couch, you support the laptop in a 45 degrees angle with your knees and the audioplug again poking straight into your stomach.
Am I the _only_ one who notices this? -
thanks buhdahl. that indeed makes the choice a lot easier. and thanks for the welcome Red Dragon! -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
No problem lust -
I want it with a 1600x900 screen, so I want to know if you are not playing with my feelings.
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
...hmm i dont know
its just a guess about the 1600 x 900
-
Every LED screen on the market is 1280x800/13xx x 7xx (the 16:9 version)
there is no LEDs currently on the market for any larger resolution. -

RGB LED, 4650/4670+GDDR3, 900p+ res, ..
wouldn't it be nice if we could be together... -
Looks like 768 is more likely though.. -
GentechPC lists the N81Vp-C1's available for pre-order on their website as being 1366x768.
However, it lists the ATI Radeon Mobility 4650 as having 1GB GDDR3!
http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=N81Vp-C1&Category_Code= -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
I still say a higher res is on the horizon.............thats just me though
-
Between the 4650 and the Nvidia 9650 card does anywhere here think one will perform better? I'm trying to decide between the N80Vn-X5 and the N81Vp-C1 (and just giving up on getting a 14.1 screen and getting a 15.4) right now and not sure which is better.
-
The 4650 will definitely perform better than a 9650GT as GDDR3 RAM is present on the 4650 instead of DDR2. I'd be interested in knowing how Asus's N81VG performs with Nvidia's new GT 120 GPU (assuming it used GDDR3; I am hoping Asus wouldn't downgrade the GPU on the newer release). Why must ATI release crappy Linux drivers :/.
-
The GT 120M is around the 9600M GS level. The GT 130M is around the 9650M GT level. The 4650 should easily trump both.
-
JR.com lists this as having Vista 64-bit, while Gentech lists it as having Vista 32-bit.
Which one does it actually come with? -
Well, I dind't see N51Vp on any of the webstores. Any 1 knows approx price? And is release date is same as for N81?
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
The price should be about the same as the N81 give or take a couple of bucks.
-
mmmmm since I'm not known for patience, I called Asus but the guy that answered had 0 information about the n81 or n51. He was surprised that it was up for pre-order at amazon and other resellers. He even put me on hold to ask someone and apparently no one knew about these. I also started to doubt his reliability when I asked him if he knew anything about the 4xxx cards and he told me that he had not heard about those laptops
. Maybe If I asked about the w90 that would have jogged his memory since that monster is hard to forget
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Lol, man if i was working for Asus i would be king kong i would be giving all the information away though
then id lose my job
Its surprising how dumb some of these reps are not just asus but all notebooks companies its amazing. -
The guy replied saying that "everything here is everything we sell, nothing new has been released in a few months"
I then showed him the Dell website, and he was like "oh... well... no, we don't have one here" -
I just tried my luck since striker and others had success when asking about the w90 and I had read before about people calling to ask for the 1000HE release.
I spent a good chunk of time with dell today getting about 5-6 transfer (sometimes even on a loop) so I was like mehhh might as well call asus.
BTW the recording they have when you are on hold is hypnotic or has subliminal messages. I felt like they wanted to brainwash me and some parts made me lol especially when the guy in the recording says "Hot products" with a funky emphasis on hot. -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
3 years ago? That must of been an inspiron or something
Lol sephiroth at brain wash you sure that wasn't cloud mocking you? -
I'm curious to weight and battery life for the two models (Asus is notorious for having heavier than average laptops with lower than average battery life
) Hopefully they have addressed this!!
-
And, still, there are no N51s in stored for preorder, only N81s...
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
contact the user gentech he should be able to give you some info if he can.
