    I will get my N81 soon :D

Several resellers have them in-stock but I got it from GENTECH!!!

    Go Ken!!

I will probably be one of the 1st to get it since I needed a computer ASAP and asked for next day delivery (including weekends, ouch $$$) ...

Yeah I'm usually pretty lucky with computers until I bought a Dell Precision m6400 and received 3 basically DOA earlier this month (only 1 was truly DOA but the other two where unusable). One of them ate (it even did dramatic crunching sounds :( ) my windows vista DVD since dell forgot to send it to me and since it was a slot drive it was not fun.

I always prayed the "notebook GOD" and it worked  , I just forgot to do it for those dells and I felt the wrath of the notebook Gods. Better safe than sorry ;) .

Anyways I might as well hunt down all the drivers and stressing/benchmarking tools since I always like to test everything in my new computers.

    Ken from GenTech Computers says:

"Just confirmed with Asus that US won't be getting N51Tp, it'll be F50 with GeForce GT 120 instead."

Looks I'll be getting the n81Vp then. One problem with the n81 though...

Like the Lenovo keyboards, the CTRL button is in the wrong spot! The FN button is on the bottom left corner and then control is to the right of it. It should be switched around. Is it possible to reprogram the keys so that the FN keys acts as a control key?

Sorry if this has ben asked before but GenTech offers 2 models(N80) the Nvidia one and the ATI one, they only had COD4 demo for the ATI model( looked fantastic by the way very impressed on how smooth and fluid the gameplay was).
I know that both are 1 GB GPU's but which one offers better performance/FPS for games.

Both N80's at GenTech carry an Nvidia 9650 GT w/ 1GB onboard DDR2 RAM.

The new N81Vp however has an ATI 4650 w/ 1GB onboard GDDR3 RAM however will definitely outperform the Nvidia. Asus will be releasing an N81Vg which will carry the new GT 120M though how good it will perform still seems to be unclear. Unless there is a specific reason for you to avoid ATI (as there is for me), I'd choose the N81Vp.

In terms of actual processing power it seems like that. However, I'm curious if it will be paired with GDDR3 onboard RAM which corresponds with that found in the N81's ATI model and if so, how much it would effect performance compared to current generation N80s with GeForce 9650GTs....

I am also wondering on the price range as according to the specs posted here, it seems like it will suffer a slightly lower clocked CPU as well (T9400 vs. T9550).

The GT 120M isn't present in any notebooks yet. It will be present in the N81VG when that is released.

According to Engadget: The newfangled 120M GPU features NVIDIA CUDA technology, 32 processing cores, DirecX 10 support, 1080p video playback and 110 gigaflops of computing power.

I know ATI generally had bad drivers for Linux, but I plan to do all my gaming on the windows side of things so will the 4650 have a good enough driver to just survive with word processing and internet surfing under linux? I'm just worried since its a brand new card that there will be 0 drivers for a while.

+1. I am having the same fear. I would also like to be able to do at least basic 3D rendering while in Linux. Too bad there is no public ETA on the N81VG....

I just got a N51Tp for testing, and I have some really bad news.

First of all, this model is equiped with a Mobility Radeon HD4650 (so far, so good), with... 1GB of... DDR2 memory (again!). This is just lucridous, but wait to hear this: the score in 3Dmark06 is (suspense!) 4392.

Thanks ASUS, you messed up real nice. Equip a card that can manage to pull a nice, 6300+ 3dmark06 score (using a GDDR3 mem) with a DDR2. Talk 'bout a bottleneck. ( http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/nkm8a/ )

I'll post some more results later if anyone is interested.

[edit]Oh, and the screen is 1366x768 15,6" widescreen.

A tester eh? Pretty cool are you allowed to post pics? That is pretty dissapointing to here but that doesn't sound right are you sure these notebooks with the DDR2 aren't aimed at another market?

    Dunnow, but I'll ask.
Hm, I don't really know on what market they're aimed, that's a sample for press purposes, and I would rather expect ASUS to be shipping press samples with better configurations than the ones for the market, not worse, cause that wouldn't make much sense.

Turns out the Mobility Radeon HD 4650 GDDR3 even gave the Geforce GT 130M a drubbing... and the MR HD 4650 is 57% faster than the Geforce 9600M GT which means it got thrashed real bad. I wonder how fast the MR HD 4670 would be.

Eh... I'm not surprised. The desktop HD 4650 and 4670 does beat the crap out of the Geforce 9500 GT, which Nvidia's mobile mid-range GPUs are based on.

btw. what is a "Puma 2" ? I've never heard of that. AFAIK the next platform after Puma is called "Tigris".

Well, that's not a next generation mobile platform, that's for sure. AMD doesn't know about Puma 2 I would think :D I think it's just good ol' puma paired with a 4000 series Radeon HD. That's not a new platform.

All necessary drivers required with a clean install of Windows. Got someone who just got theirs and it's overheating and crashing like crazy. Also temp monitoring programs aren't showing up a lot of the hardware. We're going to try wiping it.
