yah im gonna be doing that in a bit.
-
I don't know about you guys but the new 205 bios on the official asus website solved my problem. I'm getting no more keyboard lags. Try it
-
it's weird. As I was trying to give a link for convienence access, the 205 BIOS is gone. I swear it was there when I downloaded it around 4AM this morning.
-
I saw the 205 this morning as well.
I wonder why they removed it if it it was good to fix the lag problem!?! -

There's the link... is this newer than beta 207 I guess then? Says 9/19 LOL I'm flashing now I'll post back
EDIT: So much for that I can't flash, it says it's not newer... what is going on here, is this new or old, I thought 205 shipped on my A2. Maybe it was 204. -
ALLurGroceries Vegan Vermin Super Moderator
It says 8/14/08 on the BIOS so it's nothing new... 207 bios is stamped 9/2/08. it said 9/19 ON THE SITE, but not as the stamp of the actual bios image, so I'd move along... not much to see here
-
Does anybody know if there is also keyboard lag when typing in a game? (like MMORPGs, etc)
I really hope Asus fixes this problem. Im really in love with this laptop and I plan to buy it soon -
ALLurGroceries Vegan Vermin Super Moderator
I haven't had any problems with lag since I flashed to beta bios 207... now the key combinations issue is a different story... still waiting for a real fix on that
-
So, you had keyboard lag when typing in a game before you updated your bios to 207 beta?

Oh ok. Well, when Ive already bought mine, I need to learn how to use that script, and need to learn how to update BIOS as well (sort of a computer noob XD)
-
ALLurGroceries Vegan Vermin Super Moderator
The script I just lifted from a microsoft msdn page and tweaked, it's just a way of automatically changing the process priority for the two synaptics trackpad applications. The priority is set by default to above normal, which is a problem and causes some hangs. Again, disabling the trackpad in the bios is another fix but more brute force. You can right click the .vbs file and select edit to view the source. The key is to get this thing to wait long enough until both applications have run at system startup, so that it can change the processes' priority levels. Otherwise obviously if they're not open yet and the script runs it's not going to do anything. Flashing the bios is easy and can be done in windows with an asus utility called winflash, or you just hit F2 at startup and go to 'start ez flash'
-
Im just going to clarify it further, but what does the script fix? I mean, I assume beta bios 207 fixed keyboard lag, but what does the script do?
Thanks :3 -
ALLurGroceries Vegan Vermin Super Moderator
The script changes the priority (the amount of CPU time alloted to a process) of two applications which manage the Synaptics touchpad which is in the G50V. There have been issues with 3+ second application hangs and I pinned it down to being a problem with the trackpad. You can either disable the trackpad in the BIOS or use my script and tweak the timings if you need the trackpad and are affected by this.
-
Ohh. So its either I DL the script you made, or disable my touchpad. Is that correct?
But of course, need to download beta bios 207. -
ALLurGroceries Vegan Vermin Super Moderator
Yea, they are two separate issues (beta bios for the lost keystrokes and script for the hangs) -- but to get things running smoothly you'll need to address both. Not everyone has needed the script obviously (or has found these threads) so you might not need it. As sparky says fire up a DVD and wait for the image to freeze and sound to loop and you'll know that you have the trackpad issue. Disabling it in the bios is the quick fix, but leaves you without a trackpad. I don't suspect it's a hardware issue since I've been running fine, so I'd expect more people to find this problem as the G50V ages.
-
I haven't flashed any BIOS to my G50V-A1 so it looks like the script fix for the lockups isn't affected to the BIOS version on the system.
If you are doing a system restore from the Asus DVDs, turn off User Account Control AFTER you have installed the Asus Drivers DVD.
I turned off UAC before installing the drivers DVD and got weird things on Vista like System Properties showing a score of 1.0 even without doing the test and the Asus application Power4Gear eXtreme started the Vista Sidebar every time I went from Battery Saving to any other mode. Solved those problems by doing a system restore and installing the drivers DVD before turning off User Account Control. Another user had the same issue and solved it the same way. -

cy426, sorry my bad, I had it totally wrong when I said:
-
Where do you find the 2.06 bios? I can only find the 2.05
-
ALLurGroceries Vegan Vermin Super Moderator
206 is in the same thread as I link to in the last post here, but 207 is the latest beta. neither is on the official asus site:

I don't know if everyone has the trackpad issue, but the keyboard problem affects everyone
-
Oh ok. So hopefully when I buy one, I sure hope that it doesnt have the trackpad problem, if its avoidable =/
Ill just ask for help updating the BIOS (and using the script, if ever) when I get my own unit.
Thanks for answering my questions. Enjoy your groceries, lol -
how do you update the bios allur? im gonna try that before i system restore my laptop.
-
ALLurGroceries Vegan Vermin Super Moderator
I use winflash, which may or may not be already installed for you. It's under 'Asus utility' under the start menu.
http://dlsvr.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Apps/WinFlash/Winflash_VT_080526.zip
You'll need to PM GenTech to get the beta bios, unless he's posted a direct link to it on the forums.

Edit: also make sure you saw page 12 at the bottom sparky's post he corrected me about the UAC thing:

im not too sure if i want to do the full restore casue than i gotta re install wow and download all the patches...
-
There are some really, really helpful people on this board. Thanks.
I absolutely love this laptop, and I'm glad there's at least a small fix to keep from falling out of love, haha. -

What is the graphics driver supposed to fix? I don't have any problems.
-
killeraardvark Notebook Evangelist
I went to the Asus download page and went to Notebook, Drivers and then VGA and they had some way newer driver there than what came with the system and than what was under the G50V section. My system seems way smoother.
-
Did it kill any keyboard lag or something?
-
he said the graphics driver is suppose to fix the freezing up i just installed it and im gonna try it out for the next few days
-
I don't see support for that in the driver thread.... -
ALLurGroceries Vegan Vermin Super Moderator
It's safe you just need the modded inf (downloaded separately, right next to the .exe), I use drivers from laptopvideo2go and they're fine.
-
My keyboard lag seems to have disappeared! I'm using bios 205 from the Asus site and the 177.92 drivers.
-
Really? So its vid card drivers after all? :O
-
i think it is because when i updated my drivers like gentech said i have not experienced any freezing what so ever.
-
Update us on this.
Though Im curious cos if Gentech/Ken knew that the vid card drivers would fix it, he would've posted it. But I dont know, lol. -
I'm going to try them soon, i just want to know if it works.
ok i tryed it and the DM now states it as a 9700gs.... -
Cy246 came to me for help and I suggest try different video card drivers, the updated driver seem solved his problem and he has not experience any random freeze, always try updated the drivers when there are no spare parts available to test, it may or may not work but doesn't hurt to try.
-
Whilst playing BF2 I'm getting pauses/freezes for about 1 second, every 30 seconds or so, only when moving. Is this a keyboard issue?
-
I don't have the issue in BF2 that Bronx19 says he is experiencing.

i switched back to the old drivers on asus website and it freezes i also noticed that when it freezes it makes a sound, i am gonna switch back to the gs drivers and test it.
-
Any word yet on the bios fixes? My friend is just waiting for the bios fix to all keyboard issues before making the purchase.
