People here came up with temporary fixes. I think they are good enough for the mean time.

There is still no word on a new beta that I've heard, my bet is ASUS has its hands full, there are a number of bugs in the BIOS that need to be addressed.

Aye. As much as I would love to get my hands on the final 207 BIOS, I would prefer ASUS to spend extra time thoroughly testing so that when they do release it that it will resolve most, if not all, of the known major issues we've been experiencing.

They said keyboard issue has been fixed with BIOS 205 but you must also install the beta version of ATKHotkey and ATKOSD:

    BIOS 205:
    http://dlsvr04.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/G50V/G50V205as.zip
    http://dlsvr.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/G50V/G50V205as.zip

Beta version ATKHotkey (BIOS 205 or newer required):
    http://dlsvr04.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Apps/ATK_Hotkey__080912.zip
    http://dlsvr.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Apps/ATK_Hotkey__080912.zip

beta version ATKOSD2 (BIOS 205 or newer required):
    http://dlsvr04.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Apps/ATKOSD2/ATKOSD2_080912.zip
    http://dlsvr.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Apps/ATKOSD2/ATKOSD2_080912.zip

if the link is not working just keep on trying.

Hurray - so keyboard and freezing issue is resolved.

Now if they could just fix the sound issue and the cpu issue all will be perfecto.

Mind you mine's worked perfectly out of the box since day one - but I must be one of the lucky ones.

Is this a non-beta BIOS? And which specific keyboard issues does it fix, the key combos? Is this newer than 2.07 beta?

The beta ATKhotkey and ATKOSD work for all models, I tried it on U6A-A1 which also has missing keystroke/keyboard lag issues and it seem solved the problem. I suggest you give it a try. :)

    2: Click Start>All Programs>Asus Utility>Winflash
3: Browse the BIOS file to update the BIOS.

I installed the new beta ATK software a few hours ago and it still misses a few random keystrokes. The problem might not be as bad, but it still exists.

The key combinations are still a problem; I don't think the new ATK software was intended to fix that issue anyway. The keyboard lag is reduced, for sure. At least, I think. It's kinda hard to tell because the problem happens so randomly.

Haven't gotten a lockup in about 24 hours with the new atk driver. I removed my startup script too, so if anyone was using a version of the synaptics priority script I posted you can probably safely test disabling it for yourself. If I get another lockup I'll post about it, but I think my script shouldn't be needed anymore.

Also, I was wondering if they are any problems with key combinations Shift + Z + Arrow Keys?

Cool. Well, assuming both G50 and M50VM have the same problem, at least I wont need to worry about that.

I hope Asus just completely fixes the problem :(

Thanks for testing it for me :D

Some notes, I've just been reading the various threads on the G50 problems, and there are some small misunderstandings above. :)

The 207 BIOS does fix (somewhat) the key combination issues, but you need to switch to a "Gaming" mode by pressing Fn+G. Press again to switch to normal keyboard mode. There are some problems though, like some combinations firing other (unpressed) keys as a side effect, and also some random key events being generated at times. all this happens in gaming mode.

More info on this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=287947&page=17

As to the CPU problem, there now is a fix that works for many people (although it disables a USB controller with unknown side effects): http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=292076&page=12 latter pages

No, from what I've read it appears to be the Synaptics driver process(es).

I think asus is going into the wrong direction looking for lag issues in stuff like synaptics processes and other drivers.

The lag gets fixed by either changing the led flash type or completely uninstalling direct console 2 and the stuff that controls the led lighting and flashing.

I removed Direct Console due to the fact that it would not stay overclocked and it boots faster and seems to run smoother and faster

Asus didn't go that direction, I did. I made the script that tweaks the synaptics processes... not Asus. However with BIOS 207 they fixed the problem, and it didn't involve the synaptics driver but a new atk driver. This is as of now a non-issue as far as I know on the G50V. There are remaining issues but the keyboard lag and stuttering issues have been resolved in 207. Anyone not yet on 207 should look to my script:

Have found a solution on the keyboard lag using the Asus M50Sv. In a nutshell, you have to uninstall the synaptics driver completely, then settle for the standard windows ps2 mouse driver. For a lengthy description, check the M50 keyboard lag thread.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=252283&page=10

I have no G50 to test this solution. But this may also solve the weird keys problem. From my research, synaptics uses the same ps2 line as the keyboard, and at times this causes problems.

I have 207 and the new ATK but I was still having issues. I installed the new ATK before I flashed 207 though. So I went back and ran the ATK setup again and hit repair, now I am free from lag for about 5 hours now.

I suggest anyone with issues get 207 and install the latest ATK version (a beta I believe.)

I will repost if I get any lag.

    Hello Guys,
I have been making communications with asus support in the asus VIP technical forums. Although my problem is with the M50 notebook, asus has mentioned that G50 keyboard lag problem has been fixed. This was their reply on the G50:

But G50V issue has been solved by new BIOS and driver. If you also have G50V unit, please update the newest BIOS V207, ATK Hotkey V1.0.0042 and ATKOSD2 V7.0.0002 which are already on our download site, thank you!

I have no way to test this. But I hope this helps the G50 users.

also posted this exact same thing at

Is this issue found on the M70 Series laptops?

My laptop only freezes during Video Games both in Vista and XP.

I'm running the 207 Bios update.Didnt try anything else in the bios.

sadly, I sent my laptop to ASUS for a RMA this morning. I can probably call them to see if they test it by the recommendations found in this thread.

I don't remember people mentioning it for the M70 series, but that's not nearly as popular as M50 or G50, so it may be simply a lack of reports.

If it only freezes during video games though, I suspect driver problems or perhaps overheating of the GPU.

Does anyone have an issue shutting down/restarting this laptop after an error? I've noticed that is a program stops working at all and I go to restart, it simply sits at the shut down screen indefinitely. Also, the WLAN seems to stop working randomly.

It looks like an OS/app bug, or perhaps ACPI problems -- these can prevent the computer from shutting down properly. For the latter you could reinstall the ATK drivers.

For the former, you would need to identify the culprit first.

Neither the "new drivers" nor the 207 BIOS have fixed the keyboard lag issue with my G50V laptop. I'd be curious to hear as to whether anyone else has seen improvement?

I will admit that if I am slow and methodical about my typing, then the number of missed keys are reduced.. but the lag problem is still haunting my laptop.

The 207 BIOS and new drivers did NOT fix keyboard lag on my G50V. It made no difference from the 205 BIOS and the previous Asus drivers. I kept BIOS 207, but removed the new ASUS/Synaptics touchpad drivers and use the Microsoft default drivers. There is no keyboard lag with this setup.
