If anyone wants to get external computer speakers consider these. Pretty much the best computer speakers you can get.

The speakers on the G51 are to the right and far left of the power button. -
The slits on each front corner of the unit facing you.
In the top first picture you can see them being reflected on the glass in the front.

Nope....they don't seem to do anything on the G51. Probably just for aesthetic purposes -

Here are some pictures courtesy of someone on Head-fi:

Those are look sweet but maybe too powerful for me. I can't blast the volume where I live. Why I need great headphone set up.
-
i may just starting rumour here but i heard the g60 which shares the same chassis has speakers installed in the front slits as well, could we maybe add speakers to the g51? might be a cool mod to do.....any takers?

You're the first one in line, mk1freak. Saddle up. I wouldn't mind adding a few more tinny speakers to my laptop.
-
I'm first in line and saddle up? Soviet you're such a tease...... I think I'm in love
As for speakers, it would be nice to have even louder tinny sound -
Extra speakers sure would be nice.
Hopefully the money my girlfriend and I are putting up is enough for a nice entertainment system when we move in together. -
To everyone with a G50/G51. Go to Realtek hd audio manager. Go under the tab Speakers then under the sub tab Sound Effects. Check off loudness equalization and then under equalizer select powerful in the drop down menu. The audio nearly doubles.

Just use a pre-amp to boost volume across the board.
-
Well thats a bit complicated for some. I just wanted to show an easy way to loud-en the laptop a bit.
-
ohhh, munchkin-man I certainly hope you're correct. I'm heading to BB in the morning to see if this works.
-
-
I know it's not going to be a rocking... but I would like the speakers to be loud enough to actually HEAR what's going on during a game, while the TV, fan or something is going on in the background. The g71 are loud enough for what I need.
-
yea the increase I think is about 30% more. Still not as loud as a 17 incher would be but its on par with 15 inchers.
-
Well, if it's as loud as the Dell XPS, or any other laptop I heard at BB, it's good enough.
-
as you can see even speaker configuration is greyed out.....
on another note, can anyone else with the A1 confirm if they have the creative x-fi MB software suite installed?
see following pic

mk1, it looks like your laptop uses SRS WOW instead of Dolby so that affects the settings. You have to find another way dudeman.
-
oh sheeze. Now different versions of the g51 have different audio software? Or is there more drivers on the disc included? :sigh: Wish the 71 had lighted keyboards.
-
yea the x-fi i'm thinking has something to do with the SB audigy that asus uses on my laptop, but when i looked for the program on asus g51 support site i dont see it anywhere just the realtek. (interesting to note as well that when i used the built in applet it recognized my a1 as a g60vx and brought me to its download page. the reference to the g60 i see all over this puppy (which makes sense since they are sharing the same chassis).
I have yet to check the dirvers disc for the creative software, but in all likelihood i will be uninstalling the creative stuff and enabling the srs to see if i get any volume increases or extra options.....the creative software set is weak. just want to make sure i have the software to reinstall if it makes the system worse or is much needed :/ -
Actually with the sound thing. I actually get louder overall sound by checking the "loudness equalization" box
-
Yea it helps alot. My ac is on with the tv and all I hear is my laptop and its only 56%
-
I just checked out Best Buy, and configured everything as stated munchkin.. helped a bit. Still nowhere near the 71gx, but it helps. Dunno what to do really... Is the 61 going to have lighted keyboard and speakers from the 71, I wonder.
-
Turning loudness equalization on and setting the equalizer to powerful makes it a whole lot louder for me.
-
The speakers sound fine to me, so far...loudness depended more on source than anything. I use my external logitech speakers anyway.

I think all of you are just deaf.
-
I'm not deaf at all. I have literally played with 13 different g51 right now, and the majority of them have pretty crappy speakers in terms of volume. I'm comparing this to other 15", as well as their own g71 (which seems to be twice as loud, just a guesstimate mind you). If I'm going to plunk down $1000 plus, you would think Asus would put the $10 speakers in, instead of the $5 speakers.
-
Yea were not def rofl. And the G60 will most likely have the G51 speakers since it is supposed to be in the same chasis.
-
I think I've read (and seen pics) somewhere that the G60 chassis is like the G50 with the battery sticking out in the back.
-
Well that would mean it comes with a 9 cell battery lol. It's supposed to be the same chasis as the G51. I have a 9 cell in my G51 also, obviously the battery bay is in the same location on the G50s and G51s and the upcoming G60s if they are based on the same chasis.
-
maybe just me but ive just tested my g51vx-a1 speakers and theyre pretty loud to me, i could hear it above the tv and such
-
just got back from the doctor's, went to get my ears checked out and cleaned, there was some slight build up in both ears from wax but doc was able to flush out and now i can hear 100% (previously it was only at 95-98% so it may have been why i didn't hear the speakers as well)
well i can attest that the g51vx-a1 model i have does have weak speakers even with the 2-5% increase in hearing the doctor gave me.
will keep you all updated if anything new comes up. -
HAHAHA nice response dude man nice response///
-
I'm still deciding between the g51 and 71. The 51 does have what I want, but those dang speakers
Then I don't know whether to get one from BB or pay the extra money for the upgraded screen and cpu. :sigh: lol
-
Ah .. 9 volt battery on the g60. Kinda new to all of this.
When I saw a sub woofer and 4 speakers on the g71 I was like "SOLD!", then I saw the g51 all black inside and backlit kb .. "ummmm...ssold!" No sub *grumbles* but niiice unit!
Ok the speakers are different, better on the G71 but my question now is how is the surround or 3d stereo for headphone use (or speakers) from both? Are they using the same sound technology? I think the g51 has the creative 3d which the g71 doesn't. Anyone know? -
Nothing is Real Notebook Evangelist
Where is the G71 subwoofer? lul
Are the two speakers on the front of the laptop the subwoofers and the 2 speakers above the keyboard and above the screen the regular speakers? -
FYI:
Just heard back from a technial support rep via email after an inquiry to the apparent low sound playback and I quote:
"It's probably a hardware issue, please fill-out the online form to request a RMA/Purchase order"
so who's willing to let their babies go for the time it takes to RMA? -
-
@mk1freak
Its weird.....mine is plenty loud even before I tweaked via the realtek drivers. Now its too loud with the Windows generic sounds so I had to turn those down. -
Just took the plunge, with the basic g51 from BB. Changed all the settings for audio control, and yes.. the speakers are loud enough for general game playing. Not WONDERFUL by any means, but good enough. This, to me anyway, means there are quite a few g51's out there with faulty equipment. I haven't a clue how to look at the build date (??) but perhaps the first ones off the assembly line weren't great in quality control?
Now, I'm trying to decide whether to keep the basic g51, or take it back and get one with the better screen and quad cpu? -
Its kinda weird......the very first people with the G51s (sunny and such) had really high temps.
Others who bought from the exact same batch, like me and Forge, have found absolutely no problems.
And then, people after us have reported some problems.
Anyways, I don't think it is just a bad batch or anything like that.
G51vx versus G71gx speakers. G51 VERY quiet
