Also be aware that the 32bit OEM license does not work for a 64-bit installation --- AFAIK.

UK, Eastern Europe -- now Australia? argh! it's still pulled in Canada. no sight of the replacement G71G, either. it better not just be a rebadge of the same box!

The G71V-A1 is no more for the US market. We can't get them and Asus is promising a replacement. If you find them, they are not US machines or they are imported or left over.

yep, i found that too. google ftw!

I think maybe Asus took it down after realizing it was the only site with the official specs? Also, there was this arab Asus site that was also dead too

    Yes it´s out on Spain
ASUS iberia just told me they´ve sold in Portugal and Spain already 750 machines...

    There is no replacement.
Just the designation that changed form G71v to G71G

    other than that, same specs.

Looks like Asus wants to advertise the G71 as a quad core notebook (But still have the T9400 as an option.)
Personally I think they should have done this with the G70SG but who knows.

yeah, well this is all terrific for ASUS. but the quadcore spec was part of the initial spec as an option back in the summer (although they focused on the T9400) -- so what's changed?

although this part is interesting: Eee Stick!

The G71 may have the sheer power to sate the needs the most serious of gamers, but it is also very suitable for those who prefer to play games on a more casual basis. Attaching ASUS' innovative Eee Stick—a simple plug and play gaming solution that allows users to interact with the game by translating their hand motions into corresponding movements onscreen—for example, will instantly transform the G71 into a mobile gaming console. The easy-to-use and family-friendly Eee Stick—which works with all of ASUS' notebooks—consists of an Activation stick, a Navigation stick and a 2.4GHz RF dongle. It has a broadcast range of up to 10 meters, allowing users more leeway for physical movement. Boasting three modes of operation, the Eee Stick can be used with a myriad of game genres, ranging from sports and shooting, to action and beat 'em up games.

ASUS: people in North America want to give you money for this notebook. just sell it to us already, yes?

Sounds very interesting, but these things are usually a failure due to a poor implementation, so I'm a bit skeptical atm..

Downer! When this d...n machine finally gets in stock I discover that they have made a change in the screen resolution. From WSXGA to WXGA+ wich means the pathetic 1440x900 resolution that I had on my old Toshiba!! What and why do they do this? Do they not want to sell this thing or what...

This was this years downer in laptop computing.. Can some of you who have gotten the machine just verify that 1440x900 is the correct resolution on the 9700GT version of G71V?

Be aware it may differ among countries. So if someone from a different country has WSXGA it doesn't necessarily mean you will...

I just wish Asus could be a bit more spesific on their webpages. Bluray on a 1440x900.. right. Well, I guess I have to look at Clevo D901C again then, bummer.

    Man!!

Where is this Laptop in US?! I've been waiting for this thing to go on sale for a while as its the only one that I feel you get everything you need at the right price, but they keep pushing back the date of release!

It's mid October now...Does anyone know if this is going to get pushed back again? Or know of a laptop that is similar to this one in price, performance, and quality? I don't know about you guys but I'm starting to get tired of waiting...

They have the laptop on display on their sites, but its been on pre-order status for quite awhile, especially with the new update from G71V to G71G that hasn't been confirmed yet with its specs.

Xoticpc says it would arrive in the end of Sept, but has yet to update their site on it. Gentech has updated their info, but indicates that it would be avaliable mid October, but no other info on the change from the "V" to the "G" specs. Other sites such as Excaliberpc has updated their info about the change in model, but has no date of release what so ever.

So end result is no Asus G71G-A1 yet in the US...or with how things been going, nothing for a while. If there is something that I don't know please feel free to let me in on it! Or if you have any other suggestion for another notebook =].

    Hi again.

Mine has 1920x1200 FULL HD screen. WXGA+

Here are the specs. This is the store where I bought mine.
By the way... it´s the best screen I´ve seen on a Laptop and it is a great machine.

If you think about Price/equipment racio, this is one of the best deals you can have. (at least in Portugal wich is my homeland)

    Cheers.
Soon I am to publish a review on this G71v and I´ll give you the links.
I´ll write it in portuguese but you can always see the pics ;)

Here is the link to the store and these are my specs and the only model for sale here yet.

There will br the Quadcore version but it has no ETA.

    Well guys...

I contacted Gentechpc on this forum, and he said that it WILL be pushed back once again, this time to the end of OCT. What I did find out was that he (Ken I believe) said that there most likely will be some changes to the laptop... Lets hope that there will be a new video card in there! Hopefully the 9800GTX!! And maybe the newer wireless network card from 5100 to 5300 =]...

At least the computer is not staying the same and just being pushed back, becoming out dated technology. Lets hope for the best!
