Which is weird. I wish I could comment, as I have access to three RX05s and one personal A1, but my A1 has been treated with IC Diamond.

Quick question for the rep if he's still here.. Do you intend on fixing the double typing issue? Also, you state that the quad core support was disabled in the bios, but IIRC, a member here used a bios from a g51vx a1 and still was unable to use his quad core.

Ok so im going to try and not ride the tangent, which a lot of you have gone on... away from the true topic of conversation mind you.
Ive noticed that newegg has an ASUS rep commenting on posts as well. Interesting strategy... how many more of you are out there and is this a new corporate strategy to try and create more enduser support on-line? I mean it does beat sitting on the phone listening to elevator music...

I thought this thread was for customer support =/ not to argue about what Asus is or is not doing. I'm pretty sure they are gonna learn from their previous designs and make the new ones better. If not then I am pretty sure they know they would lose customers.

I'd recommend the Asus rep starts a new official thread. "Hello" wasn't much of a support title in the first place.

If we were like that with xoticpc or powernotebooks reps in the Clevo forum, we'd have much less support haha. But I feel you guys. I would suggest to only post issues or questions tho.. These reps are probably busy as hell. (I know this post isn't an issue but it's the only one I'll make :p)

Your serial number would have this string 9xNxxxxxxxxx ( the x's will change but the third character is always the letter N )

I did receive and forwarded it to the proper channels.

The double typing issue, is being addressed by HQ, unfortunately they did not provide any ETA on when it will be released and whether it was a BIOS update or a driver update. The BIOS flashing utility does not completely destroy the old information, it is designed to skip overwriting certain modules. Therefore the BIOS information that holds the BBY and CHANNEL info is not overwritten.

"Hello" was intended to be an introduction, we have considered approaching the main moderators first since they control the forums, but we decided that if we are going to be around, it would be best to introduce our presence to everyone. There's tremendous amount of info already posted here, and really knowledgeable members who contribute on a regular basis. We felt that it would be wrong to just start posting replies to posts and come across as a arrogant snob.

Thank you for the information. The double typing can get very irritating. I am in a java and a visual basic class ATM and it slows me down. Same thing with typing papers for my other classes. I am a very proficient touch typer and it can happen quite a few times when I'm going fast. Total, in this post, I had to fix 6 double type errors. Great to hear that it will be taken care of.

Out of curiosity, does the G71GX-RX05 also suffer from the inability to put a quad core processor in? I was originally attempting to buy the quad core G71GX from BB, and they pulled it. I called ASUS tech line and they assured me that I would be able to install a quad core at a later date. I know with the G51, there is a different MOBO version number between the ones that will accept a quad and the ones that do not. Does the same hold true between the different G71gx's? I believe there was another post asking if ASUS intended to release an unsupported BIOS to allow quad cores? Any information on that?

FWIW, even though I'm on my third one in a very short period of time due to defects, I still love your products. Best Buy attempted to switch me into an HP when my second one went bad, and I absolutely refused. As I told them, when this laptop works, it's the best I've ever used.

    Hi,

I've had my ASUS laptop in for repair for about a month now and noone at customer service seems to know or be able to figure out what's going on. The laptop was originally 'lost' - i.e. they couldn't find out where it was when they originally recieved it. It now seems that they have the laptop (or so they have told me) but they do not know what's going on with it. The issue has been escalated several times but there is no response from the repair facility. A supervisor took over my case last week and has failed to respond to me as well. I also can't get a hold of them as noone seems to know when they work. This is getting incredibly frustrating. I've been keeping a detailed track of exactly what's been going on here if you'd like to take a look: http://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0AXZgXbvQzMGbZGRwYnFmdGtfMTJmNXFqcDlkaw&hl=en

Essentially, I'm looking for someone in ASUS who actually gives two s about what's going on with my case and can do something to help. I'm a student in a computer science program and have been laptop-less for over a month now. This laptop that's currently in is a replacement for my old laptop which died on me 2 months ago. So in all, over the last 2 months I've had a laptop for about a week. From that week, the laptop didn't even function properly. It's also a pretty poor replacement for my old laptop which I bought specifically because it had powerful specs AND a high resolution screen. The new laptop's screen is honestly, in a word, crap. Has viewing angles lower than any other LCD I've ever seen and a resolution almost as low as my netbook (which, unfortunately also happens to be ASUS. Hell, of the 4 desktops in my house - 3 of them have asus motherboards AND asus graphic cards, and I've been recommending ASUS to friends and family for a good 10 years now. I'm certainly re-evaluating my view on ASUS as a company I can tell you that much. The new laptop I got for my brother starting university was NOT ASUS, and that decision was solely based on the experiences over the last 2 months).

I've been incredibly patient thus far, but really this has become one of the worst customer experiences I've ever had. If you can't do anything to help me, then please point me to someone who can. I've run out of things to try and came across this thread - I don't have much hope of anything coming out of this post but I would love to be shown otherwise. What I've written above is, I can assure you, only a fraction of what's on my mind currently. But being a student I don't have much time to deal with this crap much any more. The RMA and service number information is in the link I provided to the Google document.

*edit* If it helps at all, if to at least give a clearly picture of the entire process I've had to go through, the old RMA number for my previous laptop was:
    Service No=428102; Rma No=N-CAA1971017

Asus should seriously revise the A7Sv model for some serious HDD/VGA freezing issues. Revising these issues could help Asus itself from constant RMA-cases and replacement calls. And of course - most importantly - it would give Asus more satisfied customers!

    http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx...&board_id=3&model=A7Sv&SLanguage=en-us&page=1

I have had some awful experiences with the model and it has left me with a very unfortunate view on Asus!

You can read more about my issue(s) here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=420728

I am not an American user, but I'm fairly sure that this issue with the A7Sv hardware is global. Something has to be done.

    Dear Asus,

You need to start using LCD's with viewing angles >10 degrees. Seriously, I've never seen a laptop with as bad of viewing angles as this one. The Dell SXPS 16 I had prior to this had a display that completely blew this one out of the water.

Yes element yours must be a special version ;) Once you use a half decent LCD, you will see how limited the G51 1080p one is. Coming from a Dell SXPS 16, it's painfully obvious. My next purchase is a clevo so I hope they use higher quality displays than Asus.

well I can see the screen almost completely clearly from up down left right so I don't know what you're talking about. and I've used plenty of LCDs, and this one is just fine...color inversion only begins when the laptop is almost fully closed or open to the hilt.

Turn on a movie or anime, move about 10-15 degrees to the left/right/top and tell me you don't see massive fading. If you don't, I'd suggest an optometrist..seriously.

    Dear ASUS rep,

Welcome to the forums, and thanks for you willingness to hear, respond to, and forward issues presented by the forum members.

I do agree that the name "Hello" is not extremely suitable for the contents of the thread. Shall we change it or would you prefer making a new thread with a more appropriate title for support questions?

    EBE (ASUS subforum moderator)

PS: After reading through the whole thread, I must say it's sad to see how much rudeness, lack of goodwill, and lack of understanding as to what issues such a rep can answer to and address, are shown by some of the members. Well, I guess it's easy to be rude on the Internet... http://xkcd.com/438/

Can't this be fixed like the older missing-keystroke issues, by removing the touchpad Synaptics driver?

I agree 100%. My only complaint with my U81a-RX05 is the screen. Viewing angles are terrible -- and I'm constantly pushing/pulling the screen depending on whether I'm viewing graphics or text. Farther back for text, more upright for graphics. Maybe they're using cheap screens on the BB models like mine. If that's the case, I'll never buy another laptop from BB.

I wonder if I could put in a better screen without screwing up the power drain too much. Probably not worth the trouble, expense and risk.

    Hello,

I have a problem with the RMA dept. I somewhat frequently send my V1s (with the 8600M, which has a widespread problem) into the RMA dept because of gfx card issues, but the issue is almost never fixed. Last time, they didn't really even try to address the issue :( (although, they did fix a cosmetic issue, which was nice.)

Actually, when I got it back, I found a copy of the benchmarking software they used. It didn't seem strenuous enough to actually overheat my gfx card. Is there anyway, the next time I send it in, to get them to play a game installed on my HDD. I have two games that can overheat the card in under 10 or so minutes :-/

If it makes you feel better, Mr. Rep, unlike some other users, I get my laptops back really quickly. ~ 1 week from my initial send date.

Another question, not sure if you can actually answer this (you prolly can't.) Is the V series pretty much dead? :(

Can I ask why is it so hard for Asus to sell the HDD brackets for the G51VX? Every time I check the Asus e-store, its out of stock ...

Right now I'm using pieces of a white eraser to support the HDD, and I can feel it vibrates way more than the one with the original brackets =/

The laptop I recieved as a replacement recently, had the same utterly horrible viewing angle. Incredibly annoying, considering my previous laptop (g1s) had, minus the light bleeding, a great screen compared to everything I see now.

To the Asus rep. 2 questions. What is the keyboard filter download you now have up on the g71gx windows 7 64 bit download site? It appears to have minimized but not eliminated the keyboard double type. Also, what is the turbogear enhancer?

This brings up a valid point that I hope the rep will forward to the Web Admins for Asus; namely, there are no descriptions of the BIOS downloads, the drivers, the software available on the download pages. Please, we need to know what it is we're being offered here. We don't like finding out the hard way that we shouldn't have installed it or didn't need it.
