Lol, they seriously have some balls teasing with pictures instead of giving us a date when clearly everyone is upset with them. And not good balls, big y balls that make them do stupid things.

Guys! If you look at the last page of the comments of the Anand review of the UX21a and go to the final comment, you'll see that a Turkish man received his UX21a and found an ADATA SSD inside! I think that means the rumors about holding it back to swap out the SanDisk are true!

Very interesting, you may be right about this, and would be a welcomed change, and definitely worth the wait.

Actually, even better, he didn't say it was a UX21A, but in fact a UX31A!

"I got the UX31A today and it has the 256GB ADATA XM11 Sandforce SSD! the package has the Sandforce Driven by LSI sticker. Also on the aliminium case. The model is UX31A-R4003V Turkish model with i7 cpu, FHD IPS Panel and 256GB SSD. I do not know if sandisk versiona exist. It was a nice surprise, I was worries about Sandisk U100 but it turns out to be Adata Sandforce :)"

I told him to post photo proof in here if possible but I believe him. :)

Already have ordered a Zenbook Prime UX31a-4002, as they are now available in Germany, will post which ssd will be in there, think will arrive at monday or tuesday.
    @urbanglowcam
Have you already "tested" your new Book, read at T-break about bad fan noise, others don't mention this, would be interesting to know from real consumer and not preproduction samples. maybe anyone else can report something about that. if its such a great issue i will order the 900x3c from samsung.

Excellent simmi, thanks. I think we'd all appreciate that.

Also, I don't have the UX31A. Sorry if I made that confusing but I was just quoting what someone mentioned on AnandTech.com in the comments section.

For the people who understand German out there, that guy who got his UX32VD already and made a youtube video has now put up a 42 min video in 720p:

Asus Zenbook UX32VD - Rundgang, Eindrücke und kein Displayport :) - YouTube

To try and summarise in English:

He seems generally very happy with it.

Points out minor things such as what he calls "slight keyboard flex" which doesn't happen when typing.

He rates the keyboard as only slightly behind the fabled thinkpad keyboard on the X220.

Upset about the small arrow keys (hes a programmer).

Compares the screen quality to that of t he thinkpad X220 IPS screen, just with a much higher resolution (which he also says could be higher, and even at native scaling doesn't make things too small for him).

He complains that its full of bloatware, and so he exchanged the 500gb normal drive for a 40gb intel SSD with windows 8 RC on it.

He really likes the mouse gestures, and explained that because its a multi-touch trackpad, windows 8 treats it like a touchscreen which allows things like swiping from the edge to bring up the start menu, or 3 finger left and right swiping as back/forward on web pages.

His biggest disappointment is the lack of display port, as he would like to drive his 2440x1600 monitor, which would otherwise require a duel-link DVI cable. Although I'm not sure if the HDMI port is capable of this.

When the keyboard back light is on auto, the adjustments are very fine, in contrast to the 4 manual brightness settings.

Hes very happy with the cooling, saying that even under Prime95/furmark that even though the cooler is audible, it makes a low pitch sound which is acceptable, compared to the X220 which was unbearable even when watching a film.

His unit has a minor build quality issue with the rubber strip which surrounds the monitor bezel, where it seems very slight misaligned in a couple of places.

That's all from the top of my head, he says he will do a more technical video in the future.

Thanks man! now this makes me wonder should i wait for UX31A or just get UX32VD instead straight away...

if the keyboard & build quality is as good as ux31a then i dont really see a reason to get ux31a, might as well get ux32vd, change to ssd & i will get advantages of ssd + discreet graphics.

The only differences willl be is the full hd ips screen. My counter sells ux32vd without ips & for ips its only available for the ux31a models. Guys is it really worth getting full hd ips screen or the HD+ (1600x900) is good enough? Please advice me because the price difference is quite a lot also actually.

    p.s: my vengeance ram is 10-10-10-27 , ahhhh...looks much better ;)

Are You 100% sure that we can replace HDD / RAM without loosing warranty?
I was thinking about getting 128GB SDD Crucial M4 + UX32VD. IPS is must have.

The thing is, that "non-unibody" design doesn't necessary mean that laptop is upgradable by any chance. For example Vostro 3450 - You can swap only RAM without loosing warranty :/

I was thinking about Macbook Air 11", but damn... all my private stuff is on Windows and i'm really used to Windows. Tried 3 times to switch to Mac -> always failed since i started to do actual work on it.

So, for the HDD there are 4 Screws. You have to remove all the battery screws too, to get the HDD. But that's not a problem. No need to remove any cables so it's easy.
Also i found the soldered RAM. It's directly beside the exchangeable memory. I don't think you can remove it (see the picture).

Here are some more pictures from the inside:

Bro can you do me a favour? can you run prime95 & msi kombustor or any other graphic demanding software to stress test your laptop? just try to stress test to make it as hot as possible & let us know about the temperature?

is it still acceptable or becomes extremely hot that we cant use it on our lap? also by doing this you will test the fan noise too...so can let us know is it noisy or not? :D :D :D

i did run 3dmark (a few pages ago). No problems at all. Noise is acceptable and heat is okay. Not if you want to have the laptop on your knees, but for writing and anything else it's no problem.

    Edit:
I still have problems with the function keys for backlight, sound and keyboard backlight on debian. compiling kernel 3.4.2 with a few kernel patches right now

It is definitely possible to change ONE of the two modules. The other one is fixed. So you are able to have a maximum of 10GB if you replace one 2GB module with one 8GB ;)

There was a question from...anybody... :) if it is possible to remove the soldered module. So, if you don't have special skills, I don't think it's possible :)

    Hello Evyerone!

I am thinking of getting ASUS ZENBOOK Prime UX32VD R4002V which comes with a price of 1450 USD.

The other version with SSD; ASUS ZENBOOK Prime UX31A R4004V cost 1.794 USD.

The price difference is ridiculous high for getting a ssd hdd? Is there any extra feature UX31A has compared to UX32VD?

It seems RAM on UX31A is all soldered??? If that is true I am waging on UX32VD.

I got another question...is the UX32VD capable of switching between discrete GPU and HD4000 with no issue?

Yep, that should be fine, they all have the same form factor, just needs the 7mm height.

Could you, nicedeath (or someone else with the UX32VD) install AIDA64, generate a hardware report and upload it here?

Doing a couple of the inbuilt benchmarks would be pretty nice too :)

The keyboard looks rather flexible, seeing this video...

    from 11:25...

    Asus Zenbook UX32VD - Unboxing - YouTube

From the information I get, they do not necessarily have the same form factor(dimension). M4 with 9.5mm has teh following dimension:

    height: 9.5 mm
    depth: 101 mm
    witdh: 70 mm

So what's everyone leaning towards? 31A or VD?

I hope to god that the VD isn't priced crazily here (Canada). My budget has limits :p Unless there is some really good discount on like amazon or something.

AND GIVE US A RELEASE DATE ASUS! DAMNIT.

PS: Touchscreen Zenbook Prime ... do want ...

Definitely VD - proper GPU (even though it's low end) and being able to put in my own SSD (wouldn't touch Sandisk or anything with a Sandforce controller) - likely a Samsung 830 256gb.

Not sure yet how much extra RAM to add - it's a toss up between 10gb and no pagefile or 6gb and a smaller hibernation file (thinking of the SSD here, in terms of both writes/lifetime as well as space).

I have problems with this in Fedora 17, too. Only the suspend, wireless and display toggle fn keys are working. And closing the Laptop lid is not recognized. asus_wmi is loaded, but gets an init error when getting the device status (dtds). asus_nb_wmi module is not loaded.

I compiled the module from source, no changes. Perhaps someone can write a patch for the module?
