I don't think there is a 1600x900 version. But there is 1366x768 with a TN panel, but nobody has seen it yet.

Just ordered this bad boy from some random english site to be sent over to germany, gotta get that UK keyboard!
just hope they restock fast.
I wonder if the wifi signal is crap, with it being in a full metal case.
Anyone know if the 32gig SSD can be directly seen as a seperate drive?
I wouldnt mind fully installing windows on it, along with all the tiny applications like winrar/firefox, and possibly even just removing the other HDD altogeather for reduced weight/for the hell of it. -
Yes,you can install anything on the 32 GB SSD. But you can't boot from it, so the MBR must be written on the normal HDD:
I installed debian on the SSD and Windows (8) on the HDD. Works well. -
I've seen the 1366x768 version here in Norway. -

aint it @qwertz?
I have seen pictures (see that unboxing video someone just linked too) showing the normal german keyboard layout with extra umlaut keys (Ä, Ö, Ü) and the Y/Z keys switched around. And lets not forget the european plug and that my main bank account is in england and it cost £804 with tax
Pity that SSD isn't bootable, maybe there will be a bios update or something in the future to enable it.
Another thing im curious about is the GT 620 memory bus width; as far as i know its a tiny 64 bit bus, on GDDR3 memory (duel pumped, instead of quad pumped GDDR5), giving it a bandwidth of just over 11GB/s (at 900mhz). Can someone download gpuz and confirm this? -
right? -
here are the gpu z screens.
The nvidia isn't saying much -
ah! thanks for that,
its using DDR3, and not GDDR3, which means its has double the bandwidth
so even with half the bus width of my old laptops 8600GT with GDDR3, at 900mhz it (the GT 620M) should still provide more bandwidth than my old 700mhz memory (which was around 21GB/s).
I'm excited to see how well fermi overclocks on this new 28nm process (instead of 40nm), heat will prob be the limiting factor here (or the power delivery system).
And how amazing! it has a boost clock! This was one of the major selling points for the new kepler cards, which means certain elements of this chip have been updated. I would guess this is the ultra low power solution nvidia is peddling to OEMs, most likely because their current lowest end kepler, the GT 640 LE still packs 384 CUDA cores at 500mhz resulting in 20w TDP (compared 94 cores at effective 1.44Ghz: 15w for the 620). So from a pure shading power perspective, its 1/4 the cores running at about 3x the speed, meaning the GT 620M is only about 25% slower than the kepler chip.
wikipedia lists it has having a 128bit bus, which is why I asked about the 64bit claim from notebookreview.net:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Nvidia_graphics_processing_units#GeForce_600_Series (about 3/4 down the page)
EDIT:
was emailed:

Lame, back to waiting for amazon.co.uk I guess -
Frustrating not out in UK yet, tempted getting it from germany but may find getting the Qwertz keyboard a bit of gettig used to. Is it out anywhere where there is a Qwetry keyboard yet?
Looks it maybe a while before out in UK, been told 21/06 but same sight now reporting 03/08. -

I feel like 1080 is gonna make stuff too small for me.. Scaling the resolution down to 1600x900 or less wouldn't be the same as buying a laptop that has that resolution would it? -
Nicedeath, how is the battery life? I know it varies depending on what you do (gaming, movies, etc) but what is the longest it has lasted for you and the shortest?
-
The UX32 only has 1366 as an option to the 1080p. -
Yes.. But has anyone seen the 1600x900 one for sale anywhere? Is it released?
Wouldn't playing games tuned down to 1366 on a 1080 screen be worse than playing on a native 1366 screen? -
Nicedeath.....
Can you disable the Nvidia optimus graphics in BIOS and just run the Intel graphics? I will be installing both Windows and Linux on my next laptop and will need this capability. -
@Nicedeath
I read that the 24 Gb SSD was soldered on the mainboard. Is that true or are you able to remove it?
Another Question: I've watched the unboxing video somebody posted before and it seemed like when the guy pushed the keyboard with his hand the chassis was yielding to the pressure.
Is this due to the "non-unibody" construction? I couldn't see a visual difference between the UX32VD (not unibody) and UX31A (unibody) on pictures but I'm afraid that the UX32VD could feel "cheaper" because of its plastic construction. What's your oppinion on that? -
Still not release date for the UX32VD its so frustrating, Samsung Series 9 goes on sale tomorrow on Amazon. Also Acer just announced its S5 ultrabook will come out end of this month

The Acer Aspire S5 looks great (i feel), but that screen res is a deal breaker for me.
Just waiting on this to come out in the UK -
I read a review mentioning a "washed out" display in general. Sorry, no link... -
the only interesting screen these day (light and thin):

2. As is said, it does not feel cheap. Everything fits perfect. I really enjoy typing on the keyboard. I could make a video, but i think that i can't show that it's not moving -
Thanks. -
Vizio just released their line of thin + light notebooks, starts at $898 - Hurry up Asus!

As for your second question, yes playing at 1366 x 768 on a 1366 x 768 native screen will result in a sharper image quality than Playing at 1366 x 768 on a 1920 x 1080 native screen. If you do the latter, then your image quality won't be as sharp but things are still readable, it's just you will notice pixels and lines being more jagged than smooth. You can fix this by turning on anti aliasing. I personally find that I need to turn anti aliasing up to 6x to get rid of most of the jagged lines and then it looks almost like playing on native resolution. Also if you are playing on native resolution then you don't really need to turn anti aliasing on, as it is mostly used to help correct that jaggedness from playing on non-native resolutions

Everyone start complain to ASUS on FB and Twitter- about not having a solid release date for new zenbook prime and tell them Acer, Vizio and Apple just released their products.I have already complained the more we get the better chance of ASUS responding with release date.
ASUS North America | Facebook -
I'm clinging to the rumor I heard mentioned a few pages ago, which is that there were problems with the SanDisk SSD and Asus is swapping them out for a different part, since if that were the case, I would happily wait another week or two for a superior product.
-
Or maybe they're gutting the thing to hit a cheaper price point to better compete with the new, cheaper MBA.
-
i hope not, since I've just ordered a UX32VD, lol!
Please UX32 owners, make videos so the wait doesn't seem so long for us other poor fellas ^^ -
btw... i think everything, except for the display front, is made of aluminium. Just startet the machine and it was very cold all alround, just like aluminium feels
-
It seems the other flavours of the Zenbook Prime are now available in Germany, too. At least the online sellers that are linked by Asus list the UX31A as available.

@nicedeath:
do you plan to try if a 8gb SO-DIMM will work? -
Here is a (short) review of the UX32A.
-
How is the touchpad?
-
No problems with two or three finger gestures.
-> GeIL SO-DIMM 8GB PC3-12800S CL10-10-10-28 (DDR3-1600) (GS38GB1600C10SC)
Will tell you if it works, but I don't think there will be a problem.
Also here is a benchmark of the SSD and HDD (Disk Benchmark from debian-gnome). Don't know what about caches or how much you can give about that tool.Attached Files:

500MB/s read is a lot more than I was expecting from the SSD soldered to the mobo, such a pity its not bootable.
-
-
-
hopefully we will know tomorrow
-
-
This may be a silly question - but is the soldered-in SSD something that could be de-soldered? Is it soldered into a standard socket, or direct to the motherboard?
(same goes for the soldered in memory - could that slot be free'd up?) -
-
I am wondering is the UX32VD will ever get released in the U.S
