Unfortunately that's not the case. I checked the promo earlier and only about 10 laptops qualify. The Zenbook series is definitely not among them. It must be up to the individual retailer which laptops to include in the promo. The Microsoft Store qualifies all PCs costing over 699 though. Also, the promo is not yet happening at Best Buy, although it may at a later date.

The SS9 wins with bezel/finish/color/size, but with the Zenbook Prime (either UX31A-DB71 or UX32VD-DB71 if graphics switching works with Ubuntu) I can get an i7 with the 1900 resolution with no issue. The Zenbook is still a pretty little thing that I know I'd be happy with as well. If only the SS9 wasn't so pretty, this would be a no-brainer.
------------------------------------
This is my Asus Zenbook bible right now to help me decrypt the models. It was linked above, and the retailer is brilliant for compiling it. If only there was an equivalent concise chart to help me sort out the Samsung Series 9 models too...
ASUS Zenbook Prime UX31A-DB52 13.3" Ultrabook. ASUS UX31A-DB52
-
Just ordered through Amazon.
Other than the Corsair - Vengeance, any other suggestions for memory? -
-
I've emailed a variety of Canadian authorized distributors today to see if and when they are expecting to stock the Zenbook Prime. I'm hoping to be able to walk into a B&M store and pick it up rather than wait for an e-tailer to ship.
I'll update this when I hear back from them. -
-
-
Also worth noting - the Series 9 (13" model only) has a PLS display, which is as far as I can tell Samsung's version of IPS. -
I was set on the S9 13" for the longest time after playing with one in store. The screen was awesome, matte, great viewing angles. It's built really well too (minus the screen hinge) and love the design. But in the end, I think the Asus will have the better screen based on reviews I've seen. So I'm going with the UX32VD.
I wish I could go for the i5 to save some money but I'm only seeing an i7 version. I guess I'm going to have to shell out the $1300 and an extra $150-200 for a SSD. Hopefully Microsoft sells it tomorrow so I can get the free xbox with it. Otherwise I'll order through amazon since I won't pay tax/shipping through them. -
Just to confirm... Are all the new zenbooks eligible for RAM upgrade to 10 gb??
-
No, only the non-unibody ones, meaning the UX32VD; and maybe the UX32A - I am not sure of that, though.
-
If the UX32A has 1080p, the upgradeable RAM, hybrid SSD/HDD and is cheaper than the UX32VD... wouldn't that be a better choice for those of us not needing a discrete GPU?
-
I like the form factor from these zenbooks.. but the think I hate is that the battery is not removable! I always have my laptop plugged in to the wall outlet, not being able to remove the battery will eventually degrade the life of the battery =/
-
This hasn't been the case for a long time now, all modern laptops automatically stop charging once the battery is full, and won't top it up again until it falls bellow a certain threshold such as 95%.
Li-ion batteries dislike being completely discharged, and for storage should be left around 50% because they are not so happy to be full either. If this is what worries you, then the battery loss from leaving it at 95-100% shouldn't reduce it to any lower than 70% after 4 years, which isn't that different from leaving it in the fridge at 50% charge all that time. So I wouldn't worry about it, having an uninteruptable power supply is much more useful than a good-as-new battery you never use.
(and the UX32VD's battery is replacable after removing a few screws) -
First post here! Hello everybody!
I'm still torn between purchasing one of the UX32 variants! I'd like to keep my maximum budget at the $1300 range, which places the UX32VD perfectly at the top. However, I'd like to shave off as much hair as possible, and keep the notebook closer to my true needs.
That being said, it seems there's only three UX32 variants according to the chart posted at excaliberpc.com. Is this true? It would very much appeal to me if there were a UX32 variant that featured the 1920x1080 IPS display coupled with a i5-3xxxU instead of the i7-3xxxU. The integrated graphics is really a bonus for me as far as the UX32VD goes, but not really necessary. I won't be doing much gaming in the next few years.
I fully intend on cracking the UX32 open and adding an SSD I already own (Agility III) + upgrading the RAM. I'm just worried about maximizing the display potential and minimizing any unnecessary cost. Can anybody respond as to whether or not there is a UX32 variant at an "in-between" of the UX32VD and UX32A? -
I am still torn between UX32A and UX32VD
Gosh...I dont like the Keyboard on UX32VD is flexible and the the xtra height of 9mm at front. That is turn off...
Though I would def want more than 4gb and ssd with more capacity than 128gb. Discrete card doesnt matter to me...
However on UX32A it is definitely more thin than at front and the keyboard is flexible but I am stuck at 4gb and stuck at 128gb. I dont mind having an external hhd tho. -
-
well.. your reply seem more valid since I have no clue of german language.
EDIT: How important is the dimension on the SSD? Height has to 7mm or it wont fit, but how about width and depth? How are they kept in place? with screws? if so the holes for screws would be fixed dimension...
Samsung 830 is:
height 7 mm
depth10 cm
width 7 cm
Curcial M4
height 7 mm
depth 6.99 cm
witdh 10.04 cm -
ill be able to tell you more tomorrow , once i receive the ssd in the mail
, thou i recon 7mm is 7mm the rest dont matter
-
EDIT: niceofdeath
Can you tell me how the ssd is being kept in place? I remember you mentioned something with screws. So is it kept in place with a plate envelope? -
Sigh, just realized that my Agility III will not fit inside the UX32VD. The UX31A is looking more and more appealing...
-
MegaTip: Most SSD's will fit the small 7mm space-constraint if you remove the metal / plastic cover of the SSD. -
It seems like most people on here think the i7 isn't worth the extra cost, as many have expressed an interest in purchasing an i5 model. What do people think the real world differences between these processors will be? If that diagram is to be trusted, it seems Asus is using a custom variant of the 3517u (as evidenced by its "ue" moniker) with a lower clockspeed, so the only differences I see between it and the i5 are a higher L3 cache (4mb vs. 3mb) and higher turbo clocks. It also seems that the GPU is clocked lower on the i7..(?) although that might be a mistake.
So, based on all this, any idea what sort of performance differences might I see? -
Has anyone removed the UX32VD's CPU/GPU heatsink to see what is contacting the dies? Is it thermal pad or a nice copper shim/blocks? Also, it would be helpful to know the Thermal Conductivity number of the thermal paste Asus used on the UX32VD if anyone knows it?

Another indistinct 'release date' from asus uk:
https://twitter.com/AsusUK/status/2...&iid=am-66429244813400239403405411&nid=27+234 -
Amazon is already OOS, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00863L2MS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Did anyone place an order and have it shipped?
Newegg has nothing listed so far. -
From this website:
Komplett.dk - ASUS ZENBOOK UX32VD 13,3" FHD IPS where I ordered in advance, is releasing the product on 27th june. From the message it says they have confirmed the date even after I made a call they would definitely confirm the date since they got the date directly from the company. I trust their statement since Komplett A/S is highly regarded in the scandinavian, in Denmark that is. However problems tends to occur during shipment. -
UX32VD owners, can you please try scaling down the resolution in increments and take a picture with a digital camera at each lower resolution so we can see the scaling quality?
-

Hi, this is my first post here!
Just wanted to confirm if gt620m can handle smoothly 3D 1080p 24hz via hdmi, anyone?
Thanks -
MWave has both the UX32VD-DB71 and UX32A's in stock but full price.
ASUS UX32VD-DB71 Asus Zenbook Prime UX32VD-DB71 13.3" IPS FHD Notebook, Intel i7-3517 1.7Ghz, 4G DDR3, 500GB HDD, Nvidia 620M, Bluetooth 4.0, Windows 7 Home Premium, Silver Aluminum from mwave.com
I want to wait for free xbox or $100 amazon though... -
-
But they're close enough to my house that I can go pick it up. It's just not worth it when I can save so much by not paying shipping/tax at amazon. I hope Microsoft pulls through and offers it with the xbox soon. -
What's with the free xbox offer everyone keeps talking about? Sounds like something I wouldn't be able to partake in, being from Canada, but I figure I'd ask...
-
Though they have updated its status to "Usually ships within 8 to 9 days." on the link you posted since I looked this morning. -
Uh oh - the UX31A-DB51 says 8-9 days for me, which will be too late. Wondering if I should just buy it from mwave and deal with the lack of gift card or xbox, considering I need a laptop by the end of the month at the latest
-
Formally announced on ASUS US facebook as available!! Now we just need confirmation of that ADATA drive and I'm ready to take the plunge!
EDIT: Although every retailer they list doesn't have it in stock... LOL Asus. Apparently their PR guy is looking into it. -

Someone seems to have posted an image of proof for their 128GB UX31A using an ADATA XM11 SSD instead of the U100 Sandisk.
http://s1.directupload.net/images/120613/2ljwrzvs.png
I found this in this thread
ASUS Zenbook Prime UX31A - Preisspekulationen - Seite 7 - ComputerBase Forum
It's German, but using Chrome's translator, I see there's a lot of discussing this subject. It appears Asus actually released with the ADATA.
I'd like to get the 256GB UX31A now, but I'm wondering if just the HD 4000 will be sufficient for doing my graphic design work with Adobe CS software. What do you guys think? Is the UX32VD's NVidia 620M necessary?
Edit: What's making it confusion is I'm seeing other reportings of the U100 Sandisk still being used. I'm hoping these are just pre-release versions.

Edit #2: I found another Chinese page showing the ADATA being used.

It really could not show any clearer that the model the screenshot was made on has a 128gb SSD. -
Also, this is more proof. I didn't CLAIM anything, just trying to point out some findings from other users.

Just chatted with BH and they said 10-14 days from their supplier. Funny considering they are listed as an official Zenbook vendor on the promotional page.
-
Anyone's Amazon order ship?
-
Got a UX31a-4002 in Germany with 256GB and yes its true that there are ADATA SSD built in, although Retailer wrote Sandisk on the Product Page. Think its a ADATA X11M or something that sound similiar;
More with regard to the Zenbook in the next days.... -
