Will a UX31e Zenbook keyboard cover fit a UX31A Zenbook Prime keyboard?

Accessories specific to the Zenbook Prime are not widely available yet so I'm considering a keyboard cover being sold for the UX31e.

Haha great! Honestly - seeing this video was the one of the only reasons I didn't jump for it right away. I am in TX - so I hope you are right about the US version :D

How long does it take for the UX31A 128gb ADATA to boot? once you press the power button until everything loads in the desktop?

i've never really owned an SSD hd before and i can't choose between UX31A and UX32VD

So, for those who swapped out the large HDD for a Crucial M4 SSD. What Windows 7 Experience Index do you get? Is it 7.9?

If I purchase a SSD to put in my UX32VD, is there any way to pull windows off the HDD and transfer it over (so I dont have to buy Windows 7 immediately before Windows 8)

You already bought it, you don't have to buy it again. You just have to install it again. You can DL a copy from MS and use the key that comes with your laptop.

I saw NO Haloing on the Zenbook or MBA. Font size is more the limiting factor.

I'd like to pitch in with some UX31a and UX21a stuff with all this VD madness going on here ;)
Yesterday I went to a local large computer retailer (bic camera) here in Tokyo, and they had several of those things on show.

The bad news is, that it seemed that there were mixed UX31a SSDs in those things.. :(

What I saw was a 128GB model of UX31a, that had a A-data disk. and 256 model with Sandisk.
With ux21a, there were 3 models on the show, and 2 of them had Sandisk SSDs, and one was a-data.. I didn't write up which one was which (as I'm mainly thinking about ux31a).

The model numbers around here are a bit different.. but nevertheless, there does seem to be UX2/31a models with Sandisk SSDs, unfortunately :(

I'm going to Taiwan in 2 days and was hoping to pick up a UX32VD. On the Taiwan auction sites, I noticed all the UX32VDs only had 1366x768 resolution. Your picture makes me suspect that the UX32VD won't be sold with the full HD screen in Asia. This is a real bummer :( The worst part is that when I come back to USA, Amazon will have started charging tax in Texas

UX32VD internal cache question: Its 32GB, 30 usable. Why did they partition it to use 26GB for the ExpressCache and 4 GB for???? Should I delete the cache partition and recreate it to use the full 30GB? What is the 4GB for?? (Don't sugest installing Windows on the 30GB SSD. It is just too small for the games my son will be installing. Don't' tell me to put Windows on it. Not an option, so I will use the caching function that the PC came with, until I upgrade the 500HDD to SSD once the price drops.)

Does it use the spare 4gb somehow? It looks like I can assign a drive letter to the 4gb in Disk Manager, so that would imply the 4gb partition is NOT part of the cache scheme.???

    S13A for a few reasons:

    - Better all round performance
    - Much better cooling, load temperatures are insanely good
    - Quiet fans (+ all the reported fan issues with the UX32VD)
    - Uneven backlight bleed like on the UX32VD drives me mad. Don't mind a bit of straight edge glow but those visible LEDs just look silly
    - Supposedly good blacks on the panel, couldn't care less about IPS/colours as its mostly moot at the low brightness I would generally use
    - Some bad stories about support from both Sony and Asus especially compared to the likes of Dell, but for UK Asus seemed worse overall
    - 1080p was originally a necessity in my choice until I read this (bit sketchy but stands to reason) - DPI scaling is a definite no. So with that in mind 900p is perfect
    - Even with 2-3 week build/shipping time, willing to bet it gets to me faster than a UX32VD UK keyboard model would
    - Very wary of Asus' engineers, after they developed a graphics card where the cooler is so heavy that it literally bends the card to the point where a large air gap develops between the GPU and the heatsink contact causing instant overheating (see 6970 DirectCU II, and I think repeated on 79x0 DirectCU)

The only thing that could make me regret not waiting is the Gigabyte U2442, as Thunderbolt and/or mini displayport would have been a massive plus as I would quite like to run my 120hz monitor from it at 1080p. Can probably live with 720p 120hz over HDMI though, thankfully the scaler is quite good

All in all I can't see a reason to get the Asus other than IPS/1080p if those appeal, and of course the thickness. Decided that though ultrabook thickness would be nice, it's not worth the compromises that come with it with regard to cooling and performance. 13.3" and less than 1.8kg are good enough for me.

Of course I may come to eat my words when it actually arrives, we shall see :p

That's probably the Rapid Start Technology partition. That partition should be the same size as the RAM.

What color did you get? It's a shame that the 900p model only comes in black, gold, and gunmetal. And that all of them have gold lettering, yuck. I am intrigued by the better video card and dvd drive though.

Is anyone else having intermittent hotkey (fn key) responsiveness issues on a UX31a? In particular if I try and change the volume rapidly it often hangs up. Sometimes this problem is especially bad. I have already attempted reinstalling the Asus ATK utility to no avail as well as doing a factory reset. Problem is similar to http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/647330-slow-fn-keys.html

Also, I am having problems with my machine entering sleep when I close the lid. It doesn't consistently enter sleep, as verified by the side LED.

Hey everyone just picked up my ASUS zenbook UX31A.

Can confirm it comes with an ADATA SSD :) Even with the 256GB version.

I should also say that yes there is a tiny bit of backlight bleeding. Nothing extreme though and as aforementioned, is only noticeable with black screens.

Also the keyboard is sooooooooooooo significantly improved over the older version. I'm typing this comment right now off it without any problems.

Can't hear any fans as of yet as Im not in a quiet area. Will check this out soon though.

Well on mine 30gb have already been used. Im guessing this is because of bloatware and stuff. So Im going to take the time later to delete some crap I dont need.

I also want to say that this is the best display ive ever seen on a laptop (obviously attributed to the 1920x1080 res). The contrast is so perfect and colours just seem to jump out. I can actually see my eyes getting really tired from it though, so i guess im going to have it on lower brightness levels.

    Hey johnx7, it's up at: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/672616-guide-ux32vd-how-install-windows-7-integrated-32gb-ssd.html. Cheers.

Thanks for sharing that with us tjp888. This shows that my suspicions were right - you need CL11 for it to maintain the 1600 mhz (800 mhz) RAM frequency. Otherwise you'll see 1333 mhz (666 mhz) @ the added RAM's CL. I'm running 1333 mhz CL9 and I also got 7,4 Windows Experience Index, some indication that the actual performance difference is not that notable.

Aint that the truth. I've found a lot of cool uses for it.

What about connecting a Xbox 360 usb controller receiver and using it as a stand in gaming console? Guess what, it works perfectly. :D I just plugged it in to a Panasonic Plasma using HDMI, set it to not do anything when the lid is closed in power options and booted up a couple 360 controller compatible games. The experience was just awesome, workin in Full HD, looking more spectacular with better FPS than any console.

What about using it as a Premiere CS6 editing station? By modding the cuda_supported_cards.txt to support the GeForce GT 620M it allows Premiere to use the Nvidia card to hardware render everything. Working at blazing speeds together with the i7 3517U. I could totally use it to professionally edit any kind of video. Tried with 1080p 25fps DLSR material and it didn't break a sweat. Very impressive.

    Hi,

I got my UX32VD since yesterday. Excellent device.

    - Definitely some bleeding but I can live with it.
    - Very nice screen ! Lot's of work space on a small screen that's fantastic.
    - Lots of crap pre-installed. Why would you ship a device with tons of pre-installed games on a "business" laptop ? (mine came with Windows 7 64-Bits Professional)
    - Very slick design
    - Very quiet.
    - For the moment I'm keeping the HDD + SSD caching and the 4GB of RAM. SSD caching seems to work well (especially to shorten boot time) but it's nowhere near the reaction time of a full ssd solution. But the laptop is still faster that what you would get of a 5400RPM disk alone.

My only complain so far is that the Elan TouchPad control program sometime goes crazy and uses 100% of one of my core and must be killed and restarted. Did anybody else notice that ?

    I think I will re-install the machine with a clean windows 7 this week-end.

Adjust it on your browser settings. You can do this for IE as well as Chrome. I'm not sure how to do it on Firefox, but on Chrome, you go into settings, scroll down and open up the advanced settings and you should see under "Web Content", options to set page zoom settings and font sizes. I have mine set at 150% with the largest font size being 17 or 18 I believe. You can set it to whatever feels the best for you. :)

I can recommend NoSquint to all Firefox users, to combat the high DPI.

It will globally scale all websites to a preset value. I use 130% zoom, and it works perfectly scaling both images, text and all interface elements. Try it out.

Maybe I'm missing some previous post here, but If you mean like a "permanent zoom" there is a setting for that in chrome (you may have to press "advanced settings" or something) :) Works like a charm

haha, yes you missed my previous post where I just suggested the same thing you just suggested to another user :D NoSquint is supposed to be a better alternative as it adjusts with each different page I believe.. however, it's only available on firefox. The last time I checked there was no equivalent of that for chrome.. and I guess there still isn't :(

p.s: got the replacement today!! now its time to test , i really hope i dont have to consider an alternative , it IS a sexy beast afterall -.-

i guess im gona go for the mushkin 1.35v then as they seem best?

Thanks Donkee! I ordered mine right after you posted, and hopefully it ships soon. I was happy that they shipped to my current location, but sad that their shipping cost was about $25 more than Newegg's when they had them in stock.

This fan noise is annoying when you're working somewhere quiet. It keeps turning on and off. Hopefully they come out with an update soon
