You can use Disk Management

Hope this helps with your install.
Asus Zenbook UX32VD Teardown, SSD Upgrade, Ram Upgrade, Gaming Benchmark, and Review - YouTube -
my disk management shows 4 partitions.
200MB healthy (EFI System partition)
105GB OS
4GB healthy (primary partition)
10GB healthy (recovery partition)
for the 10GB recovery only option when right clicked is "help"
for the 4GB primary partition there's delete
any way of reformatting the recovery and combining it with 105GB OS? -
Sorry, didn't realize that..maybe you can use a disk partitioning app that will be nicer than windows. I would guess some offer free trials.
-
The Best Buy Specifications just say High Definition IPS, but doesn't provide resolution numbers, so not sure this is the same as the other models. I asked BB to clarify.
-
Well, all UX31A according to Asus are FullHD so I'm guessing its FullHD just by the model #
-
Did you ask them to clarify on the $999 model as well? I'm definitely curious. Trying to decide which of the BB versions to get and the only difference that matters to me is the SSD size if the resolutions are the same. I know the CPU is slightly better but you won't see any real world difference in this.
-
Thanks!! Did the trick!
-
I'm sure..it isn't like they make two different IPS screens for these. Besides, their return policy is the best in the world. Order it and if it isn't then return it.
There is nobody to ask but I'm pretty sure it is..all the way back to the original UX31 they were always about $100 cheaper on their house models and they had the same specs. -
I believe this is the DB71. the &2 would have TPM and Windows professional. If it is the DB71 this price is awesome, of course they need to have it in stock and not backordered. -
I just got off the phone with a Best Buy customer service rep at my local Best Buy. She went as far as testing with my SKU of the Student Free 360 coupon and said that it worked. She said it was a little involved, and not something they normally do but it worked.
This is because the coupon is supposed to be used for an in-store only purchase. Presumably to verify identity of the student with a Student ID of some sort. Since the item isn't actually in a physical store yet, it isn't as easy as it normally is, I imagine.
But it does work! -
finally someone got a free xbox 360 lols ....
-
I didn't think they made a DB71..they make a AB71 but it only has 128GB SSD. Even without Professional it's a good deal as you can get a windows 8 professional upgrade basically for free anyway.
If you order it today for ship to store they give you a pickup date which is around July 27th. Good enough for me. You can also order the smaller one which has a pickup date of the 10th.
All you need is a working student email which I assume they verify by sending you one that you have to respond to. -
Pretty sure you have to verify with student ID. At least you do with other retailers. Anyway, they send you an email with a link to your specific coupon.
-
Most of what the MS store sells is only online and that is where I got that from..looking for a link now...here..no mention of an ID..
Microsoft Store Online -
That's a good point.
EDIT: Taken directly from the Best Buy coupon (I knew I read it somewhere)

Progress!
I have poked around in the registry and managed to add tre finger tap, and also drop down menues for all taps!
Meaning I can choose which function I want for one-, two- and three finger tap.
For me it's wonderful, I now use middlemousebutton for two-finger, and RMB for three fingers, perfect for internet browsing!
Here is what I did:
1. Run -> Regedit
2. HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Elantech -> SmartPad
Then I changed these to the values following:
ButtonLeftFunStaticText: 0
ButtonRigthFunStatic: 0
Tap_Three_Finger_ShowItem: 1
Tap2FunStaticText: 0
Restart computer. After future restarts, the settings in ELAN can appear wrong (mine says two finger tapping is disabled) but it should work anyway.
I have tried a lot more settings than these, but I am pretty sure these are the ones that made my pad function this way.
I also tried to change some swipe functions, but they got reset after a restart
I did not succeed to fix the "smart detector" either..
It would be great if more people could poke around and try stuff (I did the testing on a dual-boot windows 8 to not mess up my primary OS.)

I guess each store has their own rules..I wonder what would happen if you asked for ship to store..usually when you pick those up they only ask for a driver's license.

I have a couple of issues with my UX32VD that I am hoping someone here can provide some insight.
A while back I posted 2 issues, but I want to re-iterate them since I have played with the machine a bit more and have some more information regarding them.
1st - my display flickers for about 3-4 seconds when going from bright to dark displays. If I have a bright screen open, and hover my mouse at the bottom right on the task bar (to temporarily show my desktop) I can see lines travel across the screen also for about 4 seconds. I switched my refresh rate to 60hz, but no luck. I have since learned that this issue ONLY happens when running on battery. When plugged in, the screen doesn't flicker at all.
Any ideas as to why or what I can do about this? Other than sending it back for an exchange.
2nd - my left speaker is completely garbled. I haven't opened the system up yet, so I don't know if it is blown already, or maybe there is some dust or something in there, but if I make the balance of my sound go completely LEFT, the sound is totally distorted, if I make it RIGHT, everything sounds fine. I am listening to very calm quiet music too.
3rd - when in Microsoft Word 2010, 2 finger vertical scrolling just keeps pulling up "INK/PEN TOOLS" and the scrolling is all buggy. Now it doesn't even scroll anymore. This is extremely annoying, but obviously (I think) not an issue with the PC.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks. -
I've finding conflicting reports on the HDD in the UX31A. Some are saying it uses an mSATA interface and can therefore by replaced. You do void the warranty however since a warranty sticker exists.
Anyone can confirm/deny? -
Ah, thank you!
-
Was this for a UX31E? I don't see the UX32VD on Best Buy's website. Are the UX32VDs available in stores anywhere? Any idea when they may be?
-
Whoa! Whoa! Please explain how you did this? Was this for the UX32VD? You printed off the coupon from BB website and presented it to them at the store? I may have to cancel my order from Amazon if this is the case - I've been wanting to get an X-Box for a while. Does anyone think Amazon will match?
-
I haven't heard that for the 31A. Could be true, though. I didn't want to chance it and went w/ the 32VD.
-
Wait where is the best buy coupon? Could someone private message me the coupon considering this thread receives like + 20 pages each day!
-
Haha..I think his answer would be no, no and no. It was the 31A, on the phone and Amazon probably won't match a bonus offer..they don't even match prices.
-
It is for 2 variants of the UX31A. If the UX32VD isn't on the website (yet), they obviously won't let you buy it.
It is an in store only coupon, I simply called them to confirm it would work before making the drive. You use it like a normal in store coupon, but since the model isn't in stores yet, they have to do something special to get the order through. Again, UX31A.
I think a 32VD is loosing some of the point of an Ultrabook with the added thickness and mechanical harddrive. I have no desire to spend an additional $200-$300 for an SSD to replace the mechanical drive with either. Also, I have no use for discrete graphics whatsoever and if you think you're playing any intensive games with it, you're going to be disappointed.
You have to be a student, with a valid .edu account. If so, you go here to have it sent to your email address.
College Student Deals - BestBuy
Noone will PM you their coupon because it is a one time use coupon and they won't be able to use it then. -
I bought a 60GB OCZ SSD and 8GB Corsair Vengeance RAM for just over $100. And according to some -> Asus Zenbook UX32VD Teardown, SSD Upgrade, Ram Upgrade, Gaming Benchmark, and Review - YouTube - it's actually pretty decent for gaming.
If BB carried the 32VD in store, I'd have to make that deal happen, but if it's just the 31A I'll hold off. -
That's why we have options, people have different wants. A 60GB drive is downright tiny, imho. Additionally, it's an Ultrabook, so it needs to be thin, light, and portable. If I wanted a gaming laptop, I'd be looking at something completely different. Thicker, with more power, and a larger screen to start. I much prefer a desktop for gaming myself.
Again, to each their own. -
I personally have my eye on that BB upper end 31A..for 1299 it seems unbeatable..as soon as I can see that both my Amazon units are in the refund system I will probably order that. I paid 1130 for the DB51 from Amazon so to get this for only 170 more seems like the steal of the century.
-
Yeah, I'm liking that one as well. I'm back and forth. Ultimately this will be used mostly by the wife, with me only using it occasionally. I know she won't need the extra juice, but when I use it, I'd probably like it.
-
Those of you who return yout 32vd because of bleed, can you please confirm if the new one your are getting is without bleed?
Mine has a little bit of bleed in the bottom and I don´t notice it except for windows startup up but just the fact that I know it´s there annoys me a bit and makes me consider exchanging it for a new one. Besides that my VD is perfect and great for gaming Diablo
-
So does it seem that the upper end UX31A at Best Buy is the UX31A-DB71 under a different name? Or has anyone spotted any differences?
-
That's what it seems to be..i7 1.9, 256 SSD and windows home premium
-
wow thats an awesome deal..300 cheaper than amazon..sounds too good to be true..with these lower bb prices and the possibility of a free xbox i still dont know why orders are being placed on amazon..im still waiting for the crappy units to go through, lol..il probably order july 20th
-
I've got my UX32VD-db71 and I love it! No problems with keyboard flex, no backlight bleed. The keyboard is much better than at UX31A.
ASUS "smart logon" combined with ffdshow made the camera light stay on all the time, but uninstalling the face recognition helped (it didn't work very well anyway, even after ~100 pics).
I'm waiting for an SSD upgrade (Samsung 830, 256gb) and RAM (Mushkin 8G) for a Torx screwdriver to arrive
Now, I have just one question (asked before, but not addressed):
HOW TO CHANGE THE KEYBOARD LIGHTNING to none by default?
After each waking/restart it defaults to minor light. You need to manually reduce it every time, which is annoying. Does anybody have any ideas, please?
-
So, the Xbox deal can't be used because the upper tier unit is still on backorder. They aren't able to order that unit in their system. I went to customer service and after about a 15 minute wait, this was their explanation. I'm sure the deal will work perfectly fine if/when the unit is available for purchase.
I went ahead and got the $999 unit, which is still an excellent deal. If the other unit becomes available in the next 30 days, I'll exchange it, otherwise, I saved myself $300.
Just so everyone is also aware, in order to prevent shenanigans, they actually discount the laptop the $200, and still charge you for the 360. This is to avoid any issues if you try and return the laptop, since they will just credit what you paid minus $199.99. -
Wait so you got the xbox 360? Because I have no need for the 360, but what if I get one with backlight bleed and I want to return? Will the xbox return too or no? Also how hard is it to sell an sealed xbox 360 for $200?
-
I'm sure whatever way you want to return something, you can. I'm also sure if you get some sort of "backlight bleed" you'll actually be trying to exchange it for one without it. From my estimation, the way it was done, is solely to protect themselves from someone doing the deal, just to get the free 360, and then return the laptop, thus not paying for the 360 ever. The way it was charged, this is impossible, you would need to return both.
Selling a product that goes for $199.99 retail for exactly that on your own? Good luck with that one. I plan on getting $175 or so on Craigslist for mine. Why on earth would someone buy one from you when they could get the assurance that comes with going with a retailer for the exact same price...c'mon now, think about that. -
I know but they gotta pay tax, but you shouldn't announce your price $175 cause people will try to lowball you to lower than $175.
-
I said I am planning on getting $175. Didn't say that was my starting asking price ;-) I'll probably start around $185-$190 and move as far down to $175 depending on location or if they want it shipped, etc.
-
does anyone know if square trade accidental extended warranty is preferable to qeek squad??
-
I picked up an ux31a today at microcenter... love the machine for the most part but there is pretty substantial light bleed across the bottom when the screen is displaying something dark.
The screen is beautiful otherwise, and I wouldnt expect this from an IPS panel so im curious... do they all have this problem or did I get a bad one. They only had the one, so i'll have to wait for an exchange or return it.
I've seen videos of the light bleed on youtube so know some others are getting it at least. curious what folks here think. -
If it were me, I'd always prefer taking it to a store and handing it to a human being, rather than shipping it off to somewhere. I don't know the price differences though.
-
Could you have used that deal online because you can definitely order the 1299 one online and they even give you a store pickup date even though it says backordered? BTW, I guess you were able to verify that the 999 unit does in fact have the 1920/1080 IPS display.
-
The coupon is for in-store only. A couple different reps tried for 15+ minutes to try and get it to work. It's possible they screwed it up, but the lady said they have no idea when it'll be available. So I'm guessing whatever date it is giving you is a guess and/or computerized assumption.
When they tried the UX31A-R5102F model, I was watching and it went through instantly. -
That one takes a week too, doesn't it? Around here at least no stores have it and it's only available for ship to store.
-
Yeah, my arrival date is currently the 10th w/ pickup in the store.
-
The 10th is also what I saw earlier today when I checked.
