I'm sure an estimate of delivery on a product that currently exists, opposed to one that does not, will be a little more accurate.

Btw, I wouldn't take this guy's word for gold if I were you. In his review he states that any i5 is a dual core w/o multithreading support and an i7 has multithreading support. Very clearly in the Intel documentation for the i5 CPU in the UX31A's we're looking at:

    Intel® Core™ i5-3317U Processor (3M Cache, up to 2.60 GHz))

If it was anything else, I'd chalk it up to typo (regardless of it being verbal), but it's a pretty basic concept that is easily researched. Sounds more like blind love (fanboy) for a model instead of truly weighing options.

I think they know exactly when they will get the other one or you wouldn't be able to order it..it would just show as "sold out" or "coming soon". I don't think BB is in the business of selling vaporware although I'm sure others do. I believe they still do charge your card when you place the order and unless they know when it's coming that would be unethical.

It is illegal to charge prior to having a product in the USA, unless specifically told it is a "preorder" and even then, it is extremely rare. Backordered is just that, backordered. It doesn't guarantee anything.

You are more than welcome to drive to a Best Buy and attempt as well. If it is proven that the associates I dealt with were wrong, it is no skin off my back. But it doesn't change what I am saying.

I tried to call them to find just that out today but the wait was more than 20 minutes. I will order it tomorrow and see if I get charged.

Just got done chatting with Amazon support about the Xbox360 deal.
Its a no go, she said that they dont offer anything as of today, and I should check the site back some time to see if they do offer it.
So maybe if a lot of people ask about it, and Amazon realize they're losing sales over this, maybe they'll starting doing it.

For everyone in the UK looking for a UX32VD:

I just spoke with a salesperson from Insight and they said though nobody has any stock in the country yet, they are expecting deliveries at the end of July.

You can pre-order from the Insight website here.

They told me they got 4 orders so far.

Yes, had mine order with them for a while now but they keep telling me different dates. Spoke to Asus UK and currently the have no date apparently for release in UK. Also spoke to Comet today and they said have the item finally listed but no idea either when it will be release in UK but did say they been quoted prices of £1300

I did get through to BB this morning and they said your card gets charged immediately even for backordered items..I still think while backordered they must know when they are getting it.

Here's the law I was speaking of.

Business Guide to the FTC's Mail or Telephone Order Merchandise Rule | BCP Business Center

So, there is a lot of mumbo jumbo, but long story short, they have to feel there is a reasonable chance that it will ship inside of 30 Days to charge your credit card, anything passed that and they cannot. If 31 days occurs without shipment, they must immediately refund the order.

That's probably why their estimate says 7-30 days and not 7-45, or anything else. In my discussion with the rep at Best Buy, they stated that they have no way of knowing and the number on the website is a complete guess, so take it for what it is worth.

I *probably* would have ordered the backordered item if the 360 coupon would go through, as I plan on using money from selling that to offset some of the cost of the laptop. Since it wasn't allowed, I did what I did, and it was probably the smarter choice in the long run anyway. The CPU difference is marginal at best, and the only real thing I might miss is the extra room on the SSD.

£1300 for the vd? That crazy. A search on Google at the moment lists it (out of stock of course) roughly £800 which is kind of the price i was hoping. £1300 seems more the price of the ux31a

    Good Day Everyone!

I recently bought the Asus UX32VD i5 version.
And have been getting a few concerns regarding upgrading the ram to 10GB and running at 1600mhz despite the higher CL...

I've read a few people mentioning the Patriot/Corasir rams, but no one seems to have mentioned the G.Skill??
Because I could only get the G.Skill ram on my side of the world, which is the

    G.SKILL-Products

Its a 1X8GB DDR3 1600 CL11 ram, SO my question is, will there be any issues if I installed this ram to my ultrabook? Because I think I read it somewhere that the Ultrabook underclocks it to 1333 even with the CL11 setting for this ram...

    secondly!!!

"When using HWiNFO32 it shows the graphics card as being the Intel HD4000 but doesn't show the Nvidia GT 620M even when plugged in. How do you know if the UX32VD is doing proper graphics switching?"

    Thirdly!~~

Is it possible to overclock the GeForce GT 620M with Rivatuner for around 50-100mhz higher to be on par with the GT 630M?

Also, regarding to the Nvidia Driver, do you guys use the ASUS specified Nvidia driver or do you download the latest R300 series from Nvidia itself?

    Thanks in advance

I'd like to repartition the SSD in my ux31a as MBR instead of GPT and perform a fresh install so I can utilize TrueCrypt full disk encryption. I've created a bootable USB drive - how do I go about enabling USB boot in the BIOS?

Yes the prices for pre order seem to say 900 but apparently Comet's price they have heard is 1300 so not sure.
UX31A is out in UK for £1850 so I wouldn't discount anything with UK pricing.

I still think that is them throwing a dart at a dart board, but I hope you get it then. You sure are trusting of the national corporation ;).

If they were that sure, they wouldn't say 7-30 days, they'd say 20-25 days.

I think I'm getting the $999 version anyway, I really don't need anything more but that doesn't change my mind..I was in the store earlier and the stores won't ever be getting the DB71..they will always be ship to store. The local warehouse has 120 of the smaller ones in stock..I just had to wait for my daughter to print off the coupon.

Just went to order it and pick up the xbox. Same date, the 10th.

Hello everyone. On the asus website I have seen a 256 ssd option for ux32VD. In the storage part it is written that there is an 256 ssd option. I hope it is like that because I also plan to buy the ux32vd.

    the url is below:

Might also want to think about getting the "base" model with the 500G HDD and just upgrading to the 256GB SSD yourself as it might be cheaper in the long run.

I am pretty certain warranty is void if you open it up because there are stickers or some seal that rips when you open it.

Does the HDMI run off the nVidia graphics or the Intel? I hope it's the nVidia, as I want it for HTPC duties as well (the Intel HD4000 suffers from the 23.967Hz bug)

I have searched on the internet about this but couldn't find anything. Only the asus official website shows that there is an ssd option. And also on the forum I couldn't read anything about it.

I don't know for sure, but I suspect it wouldn't. The only sticky bit is some internal adhesive -- you definitely don't rip through any warranty-invalidation stickers or anything.

I installed the 256gb crucial m4 drive, and am now getting windows 7 ultimate setup on my ux32vd. Its taking a bit of tweaking, but its a really great laptop.

So I have gone through and installed every available driver from the asus website, but I still have a number of unknown devices and most importantly, one 'PCI Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller" that is not recognized. What driver did I miss?

I've read through about 100 pages, but the search function on these forums seem not to be working ...

Had the same issue. In the Utilities section of the Asus Drivers website, download and install "ATKACPI driver and hotkey-related utilities" then "Intel® Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Drive" in Others, it should fix your problem.

(Since I'm in a bit of a hurry, the following question is google-translated from Swedish. Sorry about that!)

I have problems with my UX32VD that "things happen" when you close the lid while the computer is running. It seems that the mouse pointer flying around and clicking stuff by itself, leading to the icons on the desktop has been moved around, some programs have been started, some have managed to start some song in Spotify etc. Feels a bit risky so I always shut down the computer for safety's sake. No big deal really. I peeked into the minimal gap, and it's not as if the screen is touching the touchpad or anythinglike that, so I really do not understand what may be causing this..

I've screwed up the computer and changed the memory and hard drive so I do not know if I dare to send the computer warranty.
(The problems were, however, even before I opened it up, so it is most unlikely to me that I broke something ..)

Was going to start by plugging in an external monitor and see what's really going on when you close the lid.

Someone else who has experienced any similar oddities?

Having installed a 256gb ssd (samsung 830) and partitioned it in equal size for program and data.

My question is, what can I do with the 32gb issd besides from another storage solution?

Is there a way to make use of it to avoid loading on my 256gb sdd by using issd as caching?

    Hey,
I got a UX31a and am currently loving it.
I have one question though. I noticed that when I received the laptop the windows flick settings were enabled, the Pen and Touch stuff. You can find it by typing flicks in the start menu search. I decided to disable it to see whats up and notice that I can't two finger scroll in Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Internet Explorer after I disabled windows flicks, even though on the Elan Touchpad settings I have Two finger scroll enabled. Other programs though I can still two finger scroll, like Google Chrome; mostly things not associated with Microsoft. If I enable windows flicks back on then I gain back two finger scroll on all the other programs again. Does everyone else have this happen? It seems like the ELAN driver for the Touchpad has to word together with windows Pen and touch Flick settings? That seems a little strange.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks

    I did swap to a 8GB ram for a total of 10GB.

Did a whole bunch of experimenting with the touchpad settings in the registry, and here is what I discovered:

Elan Smart-Pad Zenbook Prime registry settings - Pastebin.com

    Apologies for the poor formatting.

Note that when you change a setting in the registry, you can apply it without restarting by opening the config GUI, changing some random setting (but not the one you just changed in the registry), changing it back to what it was before, and then hit the Apply button. The point of changing a setting and then changing it back is just to make the Apply button become clickable.

I am very sure that my current model or the other one(returned due to dead pixels) was able to save the last configuration of the backlit keyboard.

I just noticed it does the same thing when you turn on the screen again due to inactivity. Can you confirm this behaviour as well?

Other people have reported the same thing, that whenever the computer is turned on from sleep, or etc the backlit keyboard turns on.

can anyone confirm whether or not there backlit saves the last configuration?
