Well, I will assume you are right and stand corrected. However that is the x3b and I don't know if it has changed in the x3c which I currently have. I know I had three ux31as which I believe have the same screen and I have this and to the naked eye I see no difference. If I compare the x3c to any other laptop I have or have seen the difference is night and day.

the x3b and x3c use the same display screen, hence why I typed it as np900x3b/c. The X3C just uses the newer ivy bridge cpu. :)

    1. Who did you buy it from?
    2. Was the brown shipping box from the retailer or was it an Asus box?(my retailer allows returns if I do not open the Asus box.)

    Hello all,

I was wondering if any Canadians had succeeded in getting an ADATA drive (from a Canadian source). I checked 3 in Canada computers, and I've reieved one from amazon.ca, all of which were Sandisk. Maybe we got a crapy shipment?

If you download something from Grabit, for some reason my UX32VD makes a weird sound when i am playing music through youtube its sort of static like.

Is this new that Amazon has now stopped selling the UX31A? Wasn't it New Egg before?

Amazon.com: ASUS Zenbook Prime UX31A-DB51 13.3-Inch Ultrabook: Computers & Accessories

    "Item Under Review

While this item is available from other marketplace sellers on this page, it is not currently offered by Amazon.com because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it's described here. (Thanks for the tip!)

We're working to fix the problem as quickly as possible."

Well I picked up a UX31A - i7 with 256GB Sandisk drive. Love the computer but now having a bit of regret of not getting the UX32VD due to the upgradability of the ram and HD. I'm a photographer and use Photoshop extensively. I got my UX31A for 20% and a free XBOX 360 so I'm debating if I should just keep what I have due to the great deal.

New Egg stopped selling one of the models and I think this happened briefly on Amazon with one of the models too, though it wasn't like this the other day. My guess is that they are getting too many returns.

It seems like 50% of the reviews have either one or more returns. I think it's becoming pretty obvious now that this is a half-baked product with a lot of defects.

I think that's a stretch, there's plenty of people with perfect units, on here and probably many more that won't bother to say anything online cause there's nothing bad to say. (negative press is always more prominent) I think it's a QC issue at this point, and some of the problems are getting more attention then they're worth. I think it'll get better as Asus sees this, and luckily they have THE best warranty, so you can always drop it down a flight of stairs next year and get the bug-free edition :p

I found that too. I downloaded it, then extracted it, and when I click on setup it tells me that an existing version is already there, and i must uninstall that first.

I don't know what to uninstall and don't want to mess anything up. What now? I was hoping that the setup would take care of it.

wedouglas: my guess is that you are wrong and its just sold out - there is heavy demand on this device and asus cant just produce as many as the market wants.

I highly recommend you guys to update your touchpad driver from Elantech to the new Asus Smart Gesture. It's 200% better in performance. It's just absolutely wonderful using the touchpad now.

If it were sold out, it would just say that. It wouldn't say "not currently offered by Amazon.com because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it's described here." It has quality control problems and people don't know what hard drive they're going to get.

If their yield isn't good enough, they shouldn't have released it. It doesn't seem like it's that hard to get one with problems, thus it makes you wonder how they didn't catch the problems in the first place. It's one thing if random people are getting bad units. It's another thing if those same people exchange them and get bad units again or new problems all together.

Is it just an isolated first batch? I dunno. Just sounds like an untested, unfinished product. I wouldn't be surprised if they rushed these out because of the Macbook Air and other competition.

Well, if Amazon won't sell it and New Egg won't sell it then all you need is BestBuy to not sell it and that is probably their 3 biggest distributors in the US. I am sure you would see everything wrong with it fixed in a week if BB joins in. I am already thinking the best time to buy one is as soon as Amazon starts selling them again. You would think that batch will be perfect.

How did you install it? I don't know what to remove when it tells me to uninstall the previous version.

I was wondering something along the lines..From the Control Panel, I Don't know which to uninstall: ETDWare PS/2 (By ELAN), Asus Smart Gesture, Asus Virtual Touch...

If you update with Asus's update utility, it will take care of the process for you. Takes a while, but you assure yourself a clean uninstall/install.

Guys, I am thinking about buying a Asus UX32VD. I am concerned though with the backlight bleeding and fan issues. Have these been corrected yet?

Also, is there any thing I can do such as coupons or what not to get it cheaper or faster?

I have heard that replacing the HDD with a SSD is almost mandatory. What is the best SDD to get? Is there anything else I should know or read before taking the plunge?

It runs fine all drivers installed, except I cannot get the ATK drivers to work properly. Installed the latest from Asus, but changing eg. screen bightness (fn+f6) will result in a small system hang and it brings up the windows style bars instead of the Asus ones. Seems to interfere with the default windows it seems.

If anyone has a fix, please share :)

Just a guess but the .exe probably didn't recognize the OS and might have installed the wrong version. You could try setting compatibility mode to win 7 and run it again. Probably won't make a difference but worth a try.

Is anyone else having issues with drivers after upgrading to an SSD? (Using a UX32VD-DB71)

I upgraded to a Samsung 830 (256GB) and reinstalled win7. Now trying to reinstall the drivers. Seems like I have to install the asus drivers one by one as downloaded off the website.

A few of them have given the error message "Sorry, this program only supports ASUS notebook!". Has anyone else ran into this problem? Any workarounds?

    Thanks

edit: To be more clear, the Splendid Video Enhancement Technology drivers don't work, which I believe make the screen brightness function keys work.

Power4Gear installed alright, but on reboot it gives me "This program will only work on ASUS computer"

How can I check after I upgrade the ram at what speed is my ram running? I got the 8 gb patriot cas 11.
Also do you guys think asus will fix our screens if we RMA them at the turn of the new year? I woulod do it now but school starts in 2 weeks. Also, I have no fan problems but I wuld like to take advantage of the issd along with my upgraded ssd, will using issd cause fan problem related to the instant chace it has stored?

hi guys, i just got my ux32vd and samsung 830 ssd as well as an 8gb 1600 cl11 ram.
would you guys recommend a clean install or a restore of the backup i created?

also, if i were to do a clean install, would i put in the ssd first and load the iso from my usb? to my understanding, once i put in the ssd there will be no os on the computer so am i still able to install windows 7 through a usb?

as for drivers, i heard that many people have had trouble installing certain drivers such as rapid start. is there a way to work around this? thanks!

Has anyone purchased the UX32a? I spoke to Asus corporate office and they told me that the bleed issues on the UX31a and UX32vd were due to a bad batch of IPS displays.

Hi guys I just got the UX32VD today and so far it seems great! However, my issue is that the internet speed appears to be painfully slow on this laptop. With speedtest.net I get 15mbps with my iphone on the same wifi network, whereas I get 0.34 mbps when I test it on my zenbook!? Does anyone know how I can adjust this? Thanks!

Also, what are some bloatwares I can uninstall?

EDIT: This is when my laptop is plugged in and set to high performance!

Ya, unfortunately, I have no way of knowing. I know that in a few Best Buy locations they have not placed a new order for the UX31a's, so I am assuming they might be rejecting the problem units, but that is just an assumption I have made after being told that they did not place a new order.

Anyone figured out how to stop the GPU throttling ? :( Its becoming a real pain. I can clock high, but the GPU never seems to hold it for long now. CPU throttling can be fixed with throttlestop. But GPU I'm not sure how to stop.

nm..I read it wrong..ok then do this instead, right click on the adapter in device manager, properties, change the first value from always 20 to auto. That should fix it.

Who did you purchase from? I bought my UX31a - i5 from Best Buy on August 5, and although they verbally agreed to honor both the 20% MS coupon and XBox deals, they would not allow them to stack when I visited the store, so I left without an Xbox.

Does the voltage of the RAM matter? I think I heard somewhere that the UX32VD uses 1.35V RAM but the CAS 11 Patriot memory on Newegg is 1.5V. Will this make a difference to stability or battery life?

I can't use smart gestures on the touchpad for Microsoft Office 2010 and Internet Explorer. I can't scroll or do anything..

Also why isn't Asus Live Update utility picking up the new Touchpad update from Aug.3rd? It's the 7th now.
