For people buying these machines out there, be warned: if its not a zenbook prime, it does not have a IPS panel. if it doesn't say prime on the box, it is not a zenbook prime.

Anyone have an issue booting after applying BIOS update 212 on a UX32VD? It failed to boot initially and when I went into the BIOS -> SATA configuration screen, SATA 0 showed no device. The Sandisk built in SSD was listed fine however on another SATA port. After playing with the various BIOS settings, it finally booted. I reset the BIOS settings and tried again and it failed again. After many BIOS settings changes and reboots, it came up again. There was no one setting that got it to work. It seemed to be just the fact that I rebooted a certain number of times that it worked.

I'm running a Crucial M4 512GB, 010G firmware. I suspect a combination of the BIOS and this SSD and/or firmware is the issue.

Anyone else see wonkiness along these lines with BIOS 212?

    I had the very same issue with a UX32VD, BIOS 212 and a Crutial M4 256GB (firmware 010G).
To solve the issue I downgraded back to BIOS 211 using "WinFlash.exe /nodate" to force the downgrade (tutorial: windows: Downgrading ASUS Notebook BIOS).

To actually get my drive recognized and be able to start Windows and WinFlash utility I had to boot from a USB dongle with Windows 7 installer, which recognized the iSSD and the Crutial M4, then I canceled the installation. The system rebooted to windows boot menu without showing the bios splash screen and booted my system from the M4. (Maybe I was just lucky and windows installer has nothing to do with it...)

By the way, if anyone is interested in changing the asus on screen display for volume, brightness, ... I posted a custom ATKOSD2 theme in this other thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...asus-ux32vd-owners-lounge-19.html#post8868831 It should work an any Asus laptop.

    Hi folks,

I bought an UX31A for my wife. The 256 GB SSD is partitioned into two drives: drive C: has 96.9 GB and is labelled "OS", and drive D: has 123 GB and is labelled "DATA". Is there a particular reason for having two separate partitions on an SSD? For example, does this make the computer faster somehow?

If this were a HDD I would merge these partitions immediately, but I am a novice regarding SSDs.

Mine came with a small microfiber cloth included. I'd use it dry; if that doesn't work put a drop or two of water on it.

    Hi!
I cant boot my UX32VD after 212 BIOS update i think problem caused by dead iSSD (issd was already dead)
Is there any solution to run winflash and downgrade BIOS, may be kind of LiveCD?

I had the exact same issue after updating to 2.12 and, since I was really panicking, forwarded it to the Asus RMA ( Germany).
After 48 hours of no reply, I decided to take matters into my own hands, and rolled back the bios.
You have to use Winflash, create a shortcut and start it with the following parameters: WinFlash.exe /nodate ...
I made a rollback to 2.06, just to be sure...

Everything works fine again, except losing an approximate amount of 10 Gbs of pictures :(

Looks like damage to the screen from the metal ridge under the keyboard.

I noticed the screen getting scratched soon after I bought my UX32VD, and have always put the microfiber cloth on that ridge when I close the lid. The scratch never got worse. And certainly did not escalate to a full-on damaged display.

    Thanks for the heads-up!

Updated the nVidia driver, Realtek and discovered that the intel Wi-fi driver was a bit old, so updated that as well.

Agree with you on the number of that lastest BIOS update a bit confusing.

Anyone tried the new touchpad driver?

Don't try to install the "new" 202 BIOS because it won't work with the UX32VD.
According to the BIOS info in the file it's for UX32VDA (note the "A" at the end).

    Hello folks,

Does anybody have this issue which i'm experiencing with my UX32VD?

Approximately 1 out of 5 times the screen remains blank when starting up Windows. Although the "Starting Windows" text appears, but after that when the laptop would switch to the desktop it just remains blank. The backlighting is on but otherwise the screen is blank. This never seems to occur with external display.

I've discovered that i can bring back the desktop by pressing FN-F7 (sometimes i have to press it more than once). I've also discovered that this blank screen issue can be easily reproduced by pressing FN-F7 a few (max 10) times. (this key combo turns off/on the screen)
Basically any operation that involves switching a videomode would eventually end up with a blank screen in like 10-20% of the cases.

I've experienced this with the factory installed Win7 and also after installing an SSD and installing a different Win7 on it... Tried different versions of Intel and NVidia drivers too.. didn't help.

Is this something anybody else experienced? It's sort of annoying...

I'm suspecting a hardware issue now (originally i was thinking it was a driver issue). I'll also try installing Windows 8 as a last resort..
(Btw, i'm also occasionally seeing the trackpad freezing issue too)

Probably if installing Windows 8 doesn't help i'll RMA it and never buy Asus again. (because this is not their first product that fails on me)

I've had something similar to this after resuming from sleep. The screen is nearly completly black, but you can just make out a faint image of the desktop. Using the function keys to turn the display on/off and/or the brightness settings fixes it. Im guessing it's a win 7 issue, but who knows.

I can't precise the maximum angle, but it's around 150 degrees or so.

I can read PDFs in bed with it, no problem.

Hi all, I really someone can help me out. I got my UX32VD last week and have replaced the HDD with a new SSD and I am trying to do a clean install of Windows 7. I am booting from a USB, I've changed the order of boot devices and I have included the USB 3.0 driver that people have been suggesting. This seems to be working without an issue and I have reached the Windows 7 installation pages and selected the "Custom" install.
However, my problem comes when choosing where to install Windows. On my list of drives, I have the integrated 30GB SSD (Drive 1), and my new 240GB Crucial SSD (Drive 0). The 240GB SSD is formatted and unallocated. But when I select this drive and press "Next", an error message appears telling me:
"Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information."
Now, I have done a LOT of searching online to try and find a solution I have read nearly all 400 pages of this thread but I haven't found an answer and it's really driving me mad. I have read that it might simply be a case of disabling the integrated 30GB SSD, as apparently it is this causing the problems.
However, I don't know how to disable it, and even if I did, I am worried that this might cause further issues.

Anyway, hopefully someone reads this and can help me with a solution or at least a workaround of some sort. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi
Is there anyone who thinks that the hdd sonuds quite alot? When I'm in a silent enviornment it is really annoying.
I'm still using the hybrid solution on my ux32vd 3001v.
The hdd also gives a "clicking" sound every so often when in idle and you can hear the disk spin up and down.

Tommy, in spite of everyone trying to hijack your thread, I will try to answer your question. If your drive is being indicated as unallocated, you need to create a simple volume with it before it can be used. Go to Disk Management and create a simple volume from your SSD and you should be fine.

Guys, does replacing the standard HDD in UX32VD by an SSD makes it lighter? Does it also improves battery life a bit?

Which inexpensive yet fast 256Gb SSD would you recommend?

Hi, thanks for your response. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to have helped. Whether the new SSD is allocated or not, it still produces that same error message saying that it cannot create a new system partition.
I am wondering if maybe it is related to the integrated SSD. Can you think of any other reasons why it might not be working?
    Thanks very much.

Just received my Zenbook Prime UX31A-DB71 with i7-3517U and 256GB SSD from amazon.com, and here are my impressions:
    - I was relieved to see that I received one of the units with the ADATA SSD (the faster one) and not the SanDisk SSD.
    - Before starting my review, I applied all the OS patches and let the ASUS software automatically update the BIOS, trackpad, and video drivers.
    - WiFi reception is very strong throughout my 2 story house, and even out in the pool area and yard.
    - No problem with heat buildup on the unit. I was able to run the laptop in my lap on my legs.
    - Palm rejection was not an issue.
    - Noise level of the fans was imperceptible most times, unless installing new software, and even then not loud at all.
    - Very slight screen bleed around the bottom and right borders, not enough to bother any normal viewing with the laptop (I don't watch movies with this laptop anyway).
    - Trackpad seems to work perfectly, including smooth scrolling, tap to click, double-tap to right-click, two-finger scrolling, three-finger task switching, pinch to zoom.
    - Having to hold down the FN key to get to the PageUp/PageDn keys was a pain initially, but I'm starting to get used to it.
    - No dead keys, no dropped keystrokes while typing.
    - They must have softened the front edge of the laptop since the UX31E, because I didn't find it sharp or annoying for my wrists at all.
    - Not a single dead-pixel, and the IPS screen is drop-dead gorgeous, bright, and crystal clear.
    - ADATA SSD is simply awesome, scoring 7.9 on the WEI.

All in all, a near perfect performance so far from this beauty!

Just received my replacement UX31A. The old one started having problems with the keys on the right side. They wouldn't work, but if I bent the laptop slightly, such as by putting my knee in the middle and pressing down on both sides slightly, they would work! My guess is, the case on the UX31A isn't strong enough to really support being carried around by one hand like I do a lot, it got stressed, and a trace on broke somewhere.

One thing I'm sorely pissed about...I did a Windows 7 complete backup before I sent the old in...When I went to follow the restore procedure, when the UX31A booted into recovery mode, the only option available was a complete factory restore! I called Asus tech support, and they said they don't support any recovery other than complete factory restore. !

So I made a recovery DVD from my desktop, which is running the same SP level of Windows 7, but when it booted, it said the recovery media didn't support the version of Windows 7 installed on the UX31A. ARGH! So now I get to re-install all my apps.

So has anyone tried Windows 8 on the UX31A yet? I'm tempted to since it's only $15 for the upgrade, but I'm wondering if there are any driver issues.

i just bought and installed, cant seem to install the asus live update or any drivers, but at least it works blazing fast.
i guess waiting a few days would be a good idea...

A new revision of UX32VD named UX32VD-R4002H with Windows 8 is now for sale in several Swedish shops.

I hope the screen bleeding and fan behavior is fixed, although it seems like it's the same hardware as before.

Anyone got one of these new zen revisions?

In case anyone comes across this issue and is looking for a solution, I managed to sort it out by disabling the ExpressCache SSD. This is what was confusing things it seems. I formatted it on disk management to make it a standard 30GB SSD, and when I booted it again with the new hard drive, I managed to select where I was installing, and it located the partition so I could proceed with the installation.
So, I've finally got it all working and it's great. Hope this can help someone in the future.
