Anyone have any Unknown Devices in Win 8? I have one on my ux31a: ACPI\ATK4001

None of the drivers presently on Asus seem to work for it.

Mostly everything else seems to work well with the following exceptions:
    * the Infineon Trusted Platform Module doesn't install
    * Live Update utilities doesn't install
    * the two finger scrolling doesn't seem to work in the start screen after resuming from sleep...until after launching an app.

A user on a swedish forum who has the new R4002H revision of UX32VD reports that backlight bleeding is almost gone and the touchpad is rock solid. Even the fans seems to be fixed!

Good news for anyone who has been holding off, waiting for Asus to fix those issues.

It'll be interesting to read more reports when people start buying the new revision. I'm almost on the fence as well. Especially since the shop who has it in stock has a 30days no-questions-asked return policy.

Did anyone ever get this laptop to drive the HDMI output at any resolution greater than 1920x1080? I have a Dell U2711 monitor (2560x1440) and would sure love to solve this problem. Even if I change the color depth from 32bpp down to 16bpp, it still doesn't offer any greater resolutions.

    hey guys

i've upgraded to windows 8 yesteday, and gotta say i love it! but i miss something, the elan touchpad driver i could find were some windows 7 drivers there were compatible with windows 8.
Now i can read that and "updated" version is out with windows 8 and better quality controle before leaveing the factory, now if all the parts are the same where are the real windows 8 drivers from asus? on their website there is only some bios update for windows 8 support on their web, which i'm not quiet sure that is needed ? (i havn't installed it and it is flawless)

The reason i am asking for the drivers, and especially the elan driver, i am missing some features, like 3 finger swipe for web back and forth.

What Intel HD 4000 driver has been best for you guys so far?

I tried the 2828 (most recent on asus site), 2761, 2778, and the most recent from Intel 2867, and 2778 has been the best ovarall.

I also installed w8 on my ux32vd3001 yesterday and I also have some unknown devices (seven ACPI-something, one at PCI express root complex, one usb2.0crw, two PCI controller)

One more thing I noticed is that when I open my screen the computer doesn't turn on by itself (from sleepmode), but I have to press power button. It would be nice if it woke up by itself like in w7.

    Update:

NM, Don't bother with the Intel site (Firefox needed 32-bit Java SE, so I installed it and the auto-detect ran). It couldn't pick up anything other than I needed to upgrade the wireless drivers.

    --------------------------
    Has anyone tried this?

    http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect[/url

( basically the Intel driver support site:
    www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect )

I'm still installing after the upgrade, and I'm having issues with Firefox and Java (which is what the auto-detect needs). It may find the missing component?

The unkown device is likely the rapid start technology. Refer to the asus ux31a clean install guide on this forum that explains how to deal with it. In short you don't have to do anything, but if that unknown device really bothers you then create a 4gb partition and install the rapid start technology utility and refer it to that 4gb partition.

Does anyone know how to enable or perform continuous scrolling on the Asus uX31a touchpad? Thanks.

Asus has a bunch of Win 8 drivers on their website, not sure if it's all of them, but quite a few. Can anyone confirm though if the Elan drivers work under Windows 8? There is no way I'm changing to those terrible Smart Gesture drivers that Asus provides. They suck.

I am on the fence about switching to Windows 8 now though after reading a review. It seems that the live tiles actually can't interact with desktop applications/data, which essentially makes the entire metro interface useless or an independent duplicate. It creates a difference between desktop apps, metro apps, and their data. This is the dumbest thing ever. What's the point of live tiles and metro apps if they can't use the access the same data? I had this picture in my head of applications creating metro interfaces and live tiles for the metro view kind of like widgets on a home screen of data in applications that are running. This apparently isn't going to happen.

Worthless. I may just have to short Microsoft stock. This could be a huge flop.

I had a hard time finding the power adapter for the UX32VD and it looks like I wasn't alone from searching this long thread. Here it is for anyone who is interested. Note that it is more expensive ($60) than buying a generic universal.

The unknown peripheral on UX31A disappears after installing Wireless Control. This software is avaible to download since today !

The fan noise issue after sleep mode can be fixed by uninstalling Intel DPTF and install drivers manually.

But...... my biggest problem is the Wireless Display.... It doesn't work with my belkin screencast.
The WiDi app show me my adaptor in the list but I can't connect my notebook with it, I have the message (in french) "Unable to connect to display".
Here is my post on Intel support website: WiDi doesn't work on my Asus UX31A since Windows 8 upgrade

Does anybody have this problem ?

    Hey all,
I'm really looking at a UX32VD. I kind of want to snag one before windows 8 takes over (are there any major changes to the new windows 8 model that should sway me?).

My big question is this: Where the hell can I actually get my HANDS on one of these? Microcenter and Best Buy only have UX31s on hand for me to feel, and I heard somewhere the UX32 feels a lot less.... solid than the UX31. I really don't like getting a laptop without being able to see and feel it first. Are there stores (Staples, Office Depot, etc) that typically carry this model?

    Hi,
I am looking into buying a Zenbook laptop. My research till now concludes to the Asus UX32VD, mainly because of its dedicated graphics card (gt620). At this point I have a dillema. I have found a few benchmarks of HD4000 vs GT620m... and the difference does not seem to be great. So... shall I go for a zenbook with HD4000 and FHD screen, or should I stick to the GT620 version hoping to get a few FPS more?

Whats your experience so far in this matter? (because benchmarks dont always tell the truth)

    Thanx...

From what I've read on reviews on various sites such as theverge or cnet is that the dedicated graphics adds a little more punch than the integrated graphics. If you google the asus ux32vd review on cnet they break it down nicely.

    Hi all,

I bought a UX32VD-DB71 installed with Windows 7. Bought an Intel 180 GB SSD, installed a fresh copy of Windows 8 on it, dl'd and installed drivers from Asus's site, but the Wifi was slow, WiDi wasn't working, and battery, even at 100% charged, would show just 4 hours remaining with no noticeable hardware issue. So, I downgraded to Windows 7.

Now, although the wifi connection seems to be much better, whenever I'm downloading a file, I get DNS errors. Furthermore, the battery issue is still not resolved. Off a full charge, I got only 3.5 hours of surfing. No gaming, no video, no audio.

I'm obviously frustrated/upset, as I love the screen and build, but the wifi and battery issues are now making me consider sending it back. Any tips/advice would be very much appreciated...

    Hi all.
I have encountered a pretty major problem with my UX32VD that I can't solve.
To set the scene, I was installing/updating a number of drivers on my laptop, and I was updating an Intel video driver. However, at some point, my laptop got confused and froze. I was forced to reboot the machine, but after booting, the screen stayed black. I assumed it was a video problem and so I went to try and reinstall windows 7 using a bootable USB (I had only just installed Windows so I wasn't really too bothered with starting over, plus, this seemed like an easy way out).
However, the bootable USB keeps getting stuck after I select "Install". The installer itself seems to load fine, and I can select language, etc., but after this point, it just stops (all I get is the nice blue background with no new windows or progress screens).

I thought maybe the installer was the problem, so I booted it on a different laptop and went through the steps, but it was fine this time and I could progress through the installation process without any issues.

It doesn't seem to be the same problem others have been getting when updating video drivers, as my screen seems to be working fine otherwise (I can access and see BIOS and the screen works fine when booting from USB).

So, my video drivers seem not to be working on my laptop, and also it seems to not like the idea of reinstalling Windows. Does anyone have any ideas or experienced anything similar? Is there anything I can do to get it working? I don't mind reformatting hard drives or deleting all my data as it is a fresh install anyway, but I'm not sure how to go about doing this, or if it will help anyway?

Any advice would be really appreciated.

The 31A touch only appears to exist in Best Buy's mind, certainly not their stores and the S7 is glossy white which looks a bit strange unless you manage to find a 11.5" version which they say is silver.

MICRO HDMI NOT WORKING IN WINDOWS 8
Has anyone else had this problem?
After upgrading to windows 8 on my UX31A, the Micro HDMI port has stopped working. It shows the ASUS logo for a second and then once windows loads, I can't get it to work. Any ideas? I 'm using the most up to date driver on the asus website.

I got a Prime UX21A from the MS Store this past week ($699 - have to search for "Asus"), but it's going back already - three days later - on an exchange. It's an i5, 128gb, Win 7x64, lower res screen. When I repartitioned the main drive with EaseUs, on reboot the partition failed and Windows crashed, refusing to boot. Using a USB stick, "do a system repair" wouldn't work, even though stick and laptop were SP1, and working the partititons from within Windows install wouldn't either. The ~101gb original partition had split into two 57.5gb ones, and both were showing as GPT partitions, even though the main one was labeled as Windows. Between Asus online documentation, Windows Seven forum and MS Signature tech support, I tried all the ways of fixing it one can imagine, but nothing worked. In the end, MS agreed to an exchange, which they're sending overnight.

    When the 21A was working...
    - i5 is quite adequate, tho i7 would be even better
    - Sandisk isn't the best - mid 400s read, mid 200s write - but I've used worse, e.g., a Corsair Force 3;
    - When one buys from MS Store, their Signature service techs have gotten rid of the bloat and set up is quick
    - Screen is decent, typical for laptops; an IPS would no doubt look great, but on a 1080 screen text is so small that Asus is defaulting it to 125% dpi and the reviewers say it needs more; people need to take a look first IMO (my desktop uses a 24" Dell 1920x1200 IPS and it's great, but even at that size I've got dpi set to 119%);
    - It's virtually inaudible, running softer than background noise the vast majority of the time; but under load a high-pitched ring starts and the fan follows, gradually sounding like a plane's engines taxiing to the runway; at one point installing Windows updates, the thing sounded like the plane when the pilot first accelerates for takeoff. One review measured it at as high as 40db, vs. low 20s otherwise. The fan needs serious redesign work. For me, that high pitch is really unpleasant
    - Virtually no heat on lap
    - Keyboard is very decent (I'm a touch typist); I use a mouse more than touchpad, which I've never gotten the swing of and haven't yet found this one much easier; the size of the active pad can be enlarged quite a bit; check the touchpad utilities
    - Odd placement of the power switch in top right corner next to the delete key; easy to mistake, but fortunately a tap has no effect; that placement does slow down use of delete tho, because one has to look now
    - Documentation is paltry; lots of features and settings available require testing out various Asus utilities and following forums like this
    - Asus live update and bios update utilities work well; most 31A updates and utilities are the same
    - Battery was very good on idle the first time, but after second charge something like 4h45m showed
    - Wifi here was usually getting 2-3 mb/s down next to router; downstairs, it was a touch slower, though I found openVPN felt faster
    - USB ports do well
    - Startup time very good, especially when running high performance
    - Speaker volume not bad but quality no great shakes (B&O sound isn't really that good anyway - one of those marketing myths based on nice design people buy, much like Bose)
    - Sleeve that comes with is short side entry; I'd prefer a long side sleeve; it also doesn't have room to spare: can't quite snap shut with a short mouse transmitter plugged in
    - Looks very classy, of course, but top/bottom fit so closely together that they have to be "pried" apart each time

At $699 from MS Store, definitely worth it if a 11.6" will do. Just a caution about parititioning and run heavy fan loads away from others. I was tempted to try the Toshiba Z935-ST3NO3, a 13.3" which also weighs 2.4 lbs and runs an i7. But it's $400-$500 more and reveiwers and some users are reporting a flimsy feel and keyboard/touchpad problems - and terrible customer service. Informative customer service survey at http://blog.laptopmag.com/tech-support-showdown-2012/12.

UPDATE (11/22): Got a second one on exchange and the fan is *much* quieter under load, and the fan doesn't kick up very often. This one has also been showing 5+ hours after recharge - so far. Haven't tested drive partitioning yet. Ran into a few bugs in their utilities, but no show stoppers. MS Store is now selling it for $599. Quite a deal. Can't find it on site by searching, but here's the link: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store...S-ZENBOOK-Prime-UX21A1AK3/productID.252093200.

Oh, and I really missed it: NCIX had the UX31A i7, 256gb, IPS screen on sale starting today for $999. Sold out now.

Hello and sorry I didn't get into the more than 430 pages...
I have an Asus UX31A-4005X version which came with 128GB SSD and Windows 7 Pro
After upgrading to Windows 8 I can't get Trusted Platform Module TPM installed...

I always get a message telling me that Trusted Platform Module haven't been found. I can't get any mention of this in the BIOS also. (Previously with 212 and now 215 versions...)

I have tried the different version of Trusted Platform Module Application available here without success...

I've uninstalled ASUS SmartGesture and proceeded to install the latest Elantech drivers (v11.5.2.1), but -although I can notice a definite improvement- there is no Elan icon in the control panel, and the SmartGesture tray icon reappeared; I repeated the operation twice with the same result. Is there some additional step that I have to do in order to get completely rid of Smart Gesture? Is there any other way to access the Elan configuration panel?

Can you please tell me why I am unable to get the SmartGesture to work on mine? a friend of mine accidentally wiped out the whole hard drive instead of doing the recovery and now i am installing drivers one by one off the official ASUS website... after i install SmartGesture, the icon appears on the bottom right as expected, but as i'm doing the gestures, the cursor freezes... sometimes it completely freezes and i have to restart..

please help, I don't have the AI Recovery discs and ASUS tech support doesn't send those out any longer... i'm so desperate! :(

Were you ever able to resolve this? I have the same model and I just noticed this same streak within the past couple days.

Could you clarify what you mean by ridge? I have a UX31A and just noticed this same streak almost in dead center of my screen and only visible on dark backgrounds. I'd really appreciate help in trying to fix this or prevent it from being any more noticeable.

Has anyone installed the 216 Bios on their UX31A yet? Any improvements? Why does Asus not list these newer bios on their various sites?

    Hi all,

Im currently looking for an ultrabook and i cant decide between ux32vd or 900x4c
I will use it mostly at university so matlab, maple, a bit of fem programs like ansys and comsol, autocad and programming C/C++ Arduino Ruby ecc..
Im not planning to play but if the performance are higher it's better

    s9 laptop in my country comes with i7 3517U + 8GB 1600mhz + 256GB SSD (can u confirm that all the 256SSD are samsung 830) and costs something like 1250 - 1300 euros
    Ux32vd comes with the same CPU + 4GB 1600mhz + HDD 500GB+24GB for about 1050 euros

    My thoughts:

ux32vd has a 620M which is "bad" but surely better than the HD4000..

ux32 is 1920x1080 but on a 13'' i dont know if i can really fell the difference, on the other side the nominal cd/m² are higher on samsung so it's brighter

Both ram and ssd are accessible even though s9 shouldnt need any hardware modifications despite ux32 which could need a ram upgrade for about 44 euros

ux32 has 500gb HDD and 24GB ssd cache in which i could try to force windows while s9 has just one 256gb (isnt it a bit too small?)

Worst case scenario is to spend 170 euros (min) for ssd upgrade so prices are basically near each other

Right now i think that those two laptops are almost the same except for display dimension and i can say that s9 is thinner because he missed the 620M

I would really appreciate a valid suggestion especially since we are near christmas :D
You can even point to other brand/model

I have a UX31A but would really like to move into a UX32A for the Hard Drive and Memory standard components. Ultimately I'd be able to get a UX32VD but I really can't afford that. The thing the UX32A lacks is the 1920x1080 IPS panel. Does anyone know if it is possible to take the IPS panel off the UX31A and put in in a UX32A? Basically swap the screens and sell off the UX31A to offset the cost of the UX32A.

    Thanks!

Being an electrical engineer, I'm wondering if anyone has tried de-soldering and soldering more RAM on the UX31A?

Just bought a refurbished for $650

Also a EE, but not practicing--have you checked to see if the controller will handle it? It seems like it's going to be very fine work, and I'm presuming you have access to a micro soldering iron?

New member to the Zenbook family here. Ordered a ux31a and still waiting for it to come in. So far my only question is how does this ultrabook handle windows 8? I hated win8 at first but after using it for about a month, I really have no desire to go back to 7. I saw that a previous poster said that the HDMI would not work in win8... is that true? Also how does the trackpad handle 8's gestures (Side swipes in particular). Thanks
