On my UX32VD I have no problem with HDMI and the track pad works just fine with the win 8 swipe gestures.

I just got my UX32VD and I'm having trouble with the USB ports. I did a clean install of Windows 7 and the USB ports worked fine with USB2 mice and storage. If I install the ASUS Intel USB 3 driver, all the ports stop working. If I install the latest Intel USB 3 driver, the ports stop working. Only after uninstalling the Intel driver do the ports work again. I don't have any USB 3 devices to test with. Am I not supposed to use this driver? Don't I need some sort of driver to get USB 3 speeds?

I just received a re-certified UX31A today, the power adapter that comes with it (model ADP-45AW) does not seem to fit the power input and so will not charge.
Can anyone confirm the correct model of the power adapter? -

Hello everyone, i'm new here and i've recently bought a Asus Zenbook UX32VD with the intel i5 processor wich it came with windows 7 installed but i've updated to windows 8 in the same day of my purchase and i've didn't use Windows 7 at all. And since i'm using windows 8 (all drivers are up to date) the computer shuts dows in a random way(like once per week), i've checked the windows logs and i've found that the problem maker is a Kernel-Power Event 41 error. Now i'm back to Windows 7 to see if this will still happen.
I've read in this thread that the user hotsauce had this problem but i didn't found out any information in this thread on what might be causing this errors (i've read that might be Chrome but i doubt it)
Does anyone have any clue of what might be?
Thanks in advance
Cheers
(Sorry for my English it's not my native language)
I've created a thread ( here) for this problem it might help others with the same problem since i've having a lot of dificulties in find something related with this error in this type of zenbooks -

On another note, my gesture's don't seem to work whenever I reopen the lid. Most of the time I have to reboot to get them to work again. Anyone else have the same problem on Windows 8?
-
Just an FYI:
The other day I installed a Mushkin MKNSSDCR480GB-DX7 SSD (480GB) drive in my UX32VD. In case anyone was wondering how well this drive works in the Zenbook - it's works perfectly. If you google it, you'll see it has some pretty good reviews
This is a 7mm drive so I didn't have to open the drive up and kludge it in the Zenbook case. It fit perfectly using the mounting brackets from the original 500GB drive.
I also used Acronis TrueImage 2012 to reinstall Windows and the data. Acronis was a bit stubborn seeing the Mushkin, but I finally got it to work. Once Acronis detected the drive the restore was flawless.
I also setup the 32GB flash (cache) drive as a separate drive. Maybe it'll be handy for something in the future.
It now has typical SSD performance and I haven't given up any hard drive spaces if you count the addition of the 32Gb flash drive.
Highly recommended if you don't mind shelling out a few bucks. -

Could it be something like the power profiles (ex: energy saving) settings that makes the maximum processor usage being like 60%? -
Many others here have said that windows 8 works without any problems, so hopefully your problem gets resolved. I am awaiting a UX31a and am now debating updating to windows 8 straight out of the box or waiting a few months... -
Thanks -
Alright, Just got mine in and eagerly awaiting installing windows 8. I want to do a clean swap so should I just choose that from the win 8 menu or should I keep the programs? There is nothing that came pre-installed that I am going to miss seeing as I prefer a clean system anyway... Just asking everyone's opinion.

Hi, i have a UX31A with an i7 cpu and latest bios (216) but i can't access the BIOS. Ive tried F1, F2, Del, etc. Keys on Startup (Asus Logo), pressing repeatedly and holding the key etc etc but it won't start. Out of the Box the notebook had the 215 bios, didnt work there as well thats why i flashed to 216. Any help? I tried to google the problem and searched the forum but didnt find anything.
P.S. i even uninstalled instant-on because i thought it might interfere - no results. -
It is F2, when you boot up before booting up keep on clicking on F2 as it is very quick almost a second before it enter windows.
-
neither holding nor pressing very fast and often, even before hitting the powerbutton, i just did 4 more attempts
no one got the same issue? is there any other way to enter bios like bootable usb? -
Well I installed a "fresh" windows 8 and after about an hour of downloading and installing drivers, I think I have everything up to date. Seems to be running really well as far as I can tell. Can anyone tell me how often the fans come in for the UX31A... Mine seem to come on about every minute for about a minute then turn off... is this normal?
-
Also just noticed that there are 2 devices missing... One seems to be USB. I will have to check that out in the morning.
I did make a backup of the original windows 7 install, so if win 8 is still being kinda Jankey, then I may end up switching back to 7. -

Hey guys, I talked to a BB customer service guy who said his manager told him it's guaranteed delivery by Christmas. Does anybody else know about the existence of this notebook or is it only in BB's imagination?

As for the fans, is the fan always on (on the lowest setting) or does it only come on periodiclly. At the moment it is constantly on very low, but I can tell its there. -
Hey guys. I own a UX31A-DB51 and I'm reinstalling 7 on it. I have the "eDriver" folder stored on an external hard drive where I live, but I'm visiting my parents house right now and don't have access to it.
Can anyone upload this folder? I have always had better lock installing the utilities through that as opposed to fetching the drivers through ASUS's website. -

Don1 - Can you confirm a fan on/off/on/off fix on the newer model? Basic question being that when you are online and surfing webpages or doing minor tasks like word processing, does your fan turn on for about 15 seconds then shut off for about 20 then repeat the process? -
EDIT..strike that. O am having the fan issue after all, I just wasn't hearing it..at least under windows 7. I will try windows 8 later.
Yes..it's doing it in both, it's just a bit quieter but now that I know it it is driving me crazy again and that's too bad because I thought this might be a keeper.
However, uninstalling Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework as mentioned in this post does seem to resolve it to a degree.

I just picked up an older UX31A-AB71 Zenbook and I'm having major Wi-Fi issues. I've updated the BIOS, installed all the newest drivers, restarted my cable modem and router too many times to count, and adjusted the WiFi channels between 1, 5, and 11, without improving the Zenbook's Wi-Fi reception. It's literally so bad that I have be within 4 feet of the router to receive a signal. Walking just five feet away causes the signal to drop completely. This is absolutely unacceptable. Do I return it or is do I try to open it up and see if the antenna connection is the problem? Or is there something else I'm missing?
Thanks! -
I have the fan problem too, when going to a chrome webpage when it is loading the fan turns on for about 10 seconds then shuts off, and repeat when I change webpages, I am on Windows 8, it was preloaded with Windows 8 so its on BIOS 216 I believe.

UPDATED DRIVERS
I've had issues with battery power settings constantly changing with the previous version of smart gesture. So far 1hr+ and minimum processor state and system cooling policy have not changed!!
The battery settings for min proc state was switching from 5% to 100% and the cooling policy would change from passive to active.
Asus pushed out some new drivers for the UX31A and so far no problems (1hr)
BIOS 216
ATKACPI 1.0.0025
TouchPad 1.0.36 (dated 12/03)
Uninstall old drivers and reboot.
Load ATKACPI, reboot
Load Smart Gesture 1.0.36 (dated 12/03), reboot -
I did the new bios and everything seems to be pretty good. What is ATKACPI for?

- flexibility of keyboard panel?
Or only difference is W8 vs W7?
Thanks!

Please advice! Also there are on the market following models:

So any difference to DB71/DH71 in terms of:
- IPS FHD Prime display?
- issues with light and kb flex?
Thanks again!

Late to the party but am here, i own a UX31A-DH51 for almost two months now, i bought it on Microcenter. The only problem i have is when i leave it on sleep mode for a few days and Windows 8 crashes and restart with a update that never work because it happen to me like 4 times already, but the mouse pad, backlid, wi-fi everything works great so far love this slim sexy beast
-
Do U have light bleeding issue in Ur new DH51? Have U compared it with old DB51?
-
Just a little, its by the windows start menu corner, i only see it when i boot the laptop where the screen is black but the screen lights are on, that's the only time i see it. I knew about the problem before buying the laptop i prey i got a good one

I'm looking to purchase the ux32vd vs the X1 Carbon Touch. The obvious benefits for the ux32vd is the IPS 1080p, lower cost, and upgradeability.
I'm concerned if there are still known issues though? Reading through the last few pages I see issues with bios, display blacking out etc. How satisfied are users with the ux32? Any thoughts? How is the battery life? Overall is this a no-hassle notebook? i.e. suspend/hibernate/wifi/display/trackpad/keyboard work as expected? Thanks for the help! -
Folks, I have a UX31E and am getting ready to ditch it over the keyboard/track pad issues. Im getting fed up with it. i love everything else about the laptop. Can anyone tell me if these issues have gotten better with the newer generations?

Can you increase the TDP on the i7 model of ux31a to 25w?
-
-
-
These processors have the ability to change the TDP. I don't know if ASUS disabled it or no. Anandtech mentioned it here but only briefly. I've seen some screenshots of the menu in a random Swedish review here but I'm not sure if 25W is on the list or not and if it works well.
Normally it would lead to overheating but I'm wondering if I could use it for some extra performance when docked (with extra cooling). If anyone tried it out, please share results with me.
(I'm thinking about buying a UX31A, don't have one) -
Does anyone know if the included card reader in the UX31A supports the UHS (ultra-high speed) SDXC standard?

Well I don't know if ASUS removed the 25W option. Can somebody who has the computer check? I believe it's somewhere in the advanced power settings, "config tdp level".
Why I'm asking this? At 17W the CPU/iGPU are thermally constrained when gaming and have to be throttled. If you could increase this to 25W and improvise a cooling station, you'd get significantly better performance. It's probably impossible to do the cooling but I think it'd be fun to try out
