The i7 + 256GB is about $300 more. I saw it for as low as $1300 + taxes on Friday.

Has anybody experienced a misalignment of the trackpad? Mine has just arrived and the trackpad at the bottom right corner is 2mm lower than the rest of the body? Should i return it back? Is it normal?

I bought the ux32vd laptop today, and after first boot, the hdd start making loud noises like when the it changes heads. The fan i running all the time, and on the left side near the speaker when i touch the laptop it makes a crack noise, like pressing mechanic button. Is anyone have this issues? Please help, anyone have this issues?
-
What are the temps you guys are getting with UX32VD at idle, light use and heavy use?
-
I have the same fan issue that many others are experiencing. My fan is really loud the very first time my Zenbook Prime Touch resumed from sleep. It was absolutely quiet before that and was a pleasure to use. Now it has gotten rather noisy with the fan and hot at low system loads so I am worried I have a defective unit!
The fan doesn't oscillate at all, it seems like it is running at a nearly constant speed and the CPU core idle temperature hovers around 55-60 c. But the weird thing is my display backlight seems to oscillate every few minutes between bright and dim. Has anyone else experienced this?
I have tried everything mentioned in the forums to reset the fan speed back to normal -
- Remove Intel Thermal Platform Framework
- Do a 'cold' boot
- BIOS update (216)
- BIOS reset to optimised defaults
Does anyone have any ideas at all? Returning it is not an option because I do not live in the States and I bought this on my holiday there recently.
Thanks for your help! -

I just ordered a BNIB UX31ADH51 for $799, can't wait to receive it.. One thing I'm kind of worried about is that it comes pre-installed with Win8 and I had every intention on doing a clean Win7 install until I read some threads here about not being able to downgrade some notebooks. Can anyone shed some light on how I can get a clean Win7 install on it? It comes pre-installed with Windows 8 Home Premium 64-bit. I figured it would be a simple wipe and installation like any of the other machines I've done.

Just got new UX31A-DH71.
Like it.
Would like to do Two Tweeks:
1. Wireless seems a little Weak.
Will driver update help?
Link?
My old Fujitsu S6510 is usable at the hotel fringe/weak room, ASUS Not.
Is it 'Atheros' card that is a known weakness?
2. Color is a bit over-saturated.
Took it down 18% but this thing still looks intense/unnatural on images.
Maybe take it down some more as well as contrast?
THX
OH, btw, Even though this is an 13.3" 'ultrabook', it has the Same Length x Width as my old Larger screen 14.1" (and the screen/glass area is actually Much larger on the squarer format Fujitsu S6510).
ASUS is thinner but the S6510 has much thinner Bezels, maybe 1/4 vs twice that on ASUS. -
My UX31A-DH71 came with Intel wireless, not sure why yours has 'Atheros'.

i bought zenbook UX31A came preloaded with windows 7 (refurbished) i have an upgrade dvd windows 8
my questions are
can i do a windows 8 fresh install with this?
do you guys recommend 8 instead of 7 or no?
does everything works in windows 8 (all the drivers avail)?
thanx -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You can do a fresh install but there must be an activated copy of windows 7 there to do it.
I like windows 8 performance wise, UI wise i'm not as convinced, but you can re-introduce the start menu. -
thanx i just need to do a fresh install of windows 7 then upgrade to windows 8? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You could do that too and just remove the windows.old file.

I have a UX32VD (with Samsung 830 and Corsair 8GB DDR3 1333 MHz)
When I put it down on my desk and I bump it a bit in the process I get this BSOD:
Like, it's not that I'm throwing in down on the desk, it's just a slight bump and I feel I can't put it down normally without the risk of getting this BSOD.
What causes it? -
Hello!
Can U guys tell me where on the box I can see sticker with SSD manufacturer defined?
I just saw a video on Youtube Asus UX31a Zenbook Prime Ultrabook Unboxing - YouTube and there was a text saying that buyer should pay attention to the sticker on the box while chosing faster SSD.
Thanks

What are the advantages of this model UX32VD-DS72 to UX31A-DH71?
Can RAM and SSDs be upgraded as in UX32VD-DH71 or not?
Are the SSDs by Adata in this model or also can be from SanDisk? -
Do you guys know where I could find the serial number if the sticker peeled off the bottom and I don't have easy access to the box at present? I've got a UX31A, and either the power adapter died or the power jack is failing, so I need to figure out what the SN is before I can call the customer support people.

Unless its on the brick, it would involve taking the system apart.

Hey guys!
Help please
I was about to buy UX31A-DH71 (sure to check for Adata SSD).
For some reasons I only can buy from BestBuy. While sorting the laptops on BB official site I ran into this model UX31A- BHI7N49. Quite stuck....
Who knows what this model is sold in BestBuy as UX31A- BHI7N49, SKU: 6869315.
Link: Asus - 13.3" Laptop - 4GB Memory - 256GB Solid State Drive - Radiant Silver - UX31A-BHI7N49
What is difference between this model and Asus UX31A-DH71 (BestBuy SKU#: 6904566)? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+ZENBOOK+Prime+13.3%26%2334%3B+Laptop+-+4GB+Memory+-+256GB+Solid+State+Drive+-+Gray/6904566.p?id=1218814078624&skuId=6904566#tab=specifications
Please asap.

My Zenbook broke today
Joined this forum just to post on this thread. Today my UX32A just randomly died, its been a bad day. Basically it was on, I shut the lid to put it to sleep, put it down (on top of my laptop cover*) on my desk, went away from it for a few seconds and heard a clicking, rattling noise coming from it. Opened the zen book up and it went straight to the blue and grey bios screen (aptio setup). Turned it off, goes back to that. Exit bios, goes to blank screen, restart, goes back to bios etc. Have tried everything to get it to work.
My cousin showed me how to make a bootable Linux USB drive, and I managed to boot fine from that, but the internal hard drive didn't show up, so I am certain there is a major problem with the hard drive.
I only bought it about a month and a half ago, from a guy who got it in October and barely used it at all. So it should still be in warranty, as long as they're ok about me being the new owner. If they're not then the original owner said he would help me get it sorted.
The main problem is I've lost all my family photos, documents, iTunes content etc. I'd only just transferred it over from my old Mac which is now zero-erased to sell, so there's no back up. My cousin said there may be a chance we can get some data off it if we take the hard drive out and plug it in to another computer, but I'm worried that may void the warranty. But if I just send it away to be fixed, there's no chance I'll get my data back.
It happened so suddenly and randomly. This is all a bit of a nightmare, and I fear the worst it still to come. I'm in the UK and apparently the Asus RMA service is awful here- people getting laptops back with more problems than before. I wish I'd just bought it in a shop myself, maybe then I'd still be able to get a refund.
Anyway, has anyone got any advice? Especially regarding the Hard drive and Warranty situation?
Thanks, Matt.
P.S. *Laptop Case: I have a strong suspicion that the magnets in my Ultrabook case, caused or at least contributed to the hard drive failure. I know people say this is unlikely but the magnets are quite strong and may have been positioned exactly under the hard drive when I put the UX32A on top. I think I had some issues with it previously, the screen went off once when I put it on top of it, came back on when I took it off. Still I can't prove it so it's pure speculation, and I wouldn't tell Asus in case they say it's somehow my fault. Perhaps if I'd been a bit more careful this wouldn't have happened, but the case is meant for ultrabooks. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Your hard drive will be magnetically sealed, the ultrabook magnets should have no ability to interfere.
-
Does anyone know if I can just send in the hard drive and get a replacement one back?
I've read so many horror stories about RMA, especially in the UK. I'm almost certain it would come back with a different or worse problem, and I'd have to get it repaired again etc. It would be so much easier if they could send me a hard drive with the OS on it and I could replace it myself.
Honestly I just want this thing fixed ASAP so I can sell it and get a new laptop that won't break. -
Looks good
-
Anyone know why my UX31A-R5102F would list "touch input available with 20 touch points" under System (from control panel) when as far as I know I do not have a touchscreen?
I ask because I just got the notebook and I've been having trouble getting wireless mouse working and I also updated the touchpad drivers. I'm wondering if somehow the computer thinks it has a touchscreen installed somehow and that's screwing things up for me.
Any tips? -

Hello,
I make a quick jump in this topic because a just get a second hand unit but it seems the keyboard backlight is out. I just need to know one thing : Does the back light need a driver (and work only with Windows) or lighting should works even within BIOS setup ? -
It looks like you're the only person on this thread 2 of really opened up his machine. From what he saw in there you feel it would be impossible to put a 360 GB SSD in? Did they make one of these models without an SSD? In the point of that leading question is can I add an additional drive were 0 be space for one and the same interface on the board handles both? And if I sound stupid it's because I'm new to SSD's Adam not clear what the connectors are. So any help would be appreciated.
I have a ASUS Zenbook Prime UX31A-AB71 13.3-Inch Ultrabook
-
Start with the basics.. do you have all the drivers/utilities loaded from asus support?
I've never confirmed if these are "must" installs but I've always installed because some function keys do not work without them (backlight might).
-ATKACPI driver and hotkey-related utilities
-Keyboard Device Filter Utility
-Reset BIOS options to optimized defaults
If that does not work, you may need to email Asus support and detail the problem.
I had my motherboard replaced due to a faulty power connector. When I got the laptop back I noticed my backlight keys did not work (tried everything re-flash, re-install os). I took back to the repair shop and they called back after two weeks and said everything is working and nothing had to be replaced. The solution was to flash a "specific" BIOS version.
a
The support website has BIOS versions
2.12
2.16
2.18
My laptop has version 2.15
Before the motherboard replacement, my backlight keys were working with all BIOS versions. When I took in for repair, I had version 2.18. So no idea why afterwards I needed this special version.
Email support and see if they have a decent answer. Maybe ask for the BIOS version 2.15 and see if that helps. -
Hi guys, I posted on here about a month ago (see here ) and I just thought I'd update you all on my UK repair. I also posted this in the RMA thread but no one seems to read that. Long story short my UX32A hard drive died and I couldn't boot from it or get any data off it, definately a hardware issue.
So Asus arranged a time for a courier to come and pick it up, he brought a special box to put it in and, all I had to do was put in the power adaptor and proof of purchase. Before it was collected I made sure to take loads of photos and videos of the laptop and the problem in case it was damaged or they thought it was user inflicted etc.
Anyway a week later they delivered it, with a new hard drive which worked normally. However the weird thing was that they'd also replaced the LCD assembly! It was definately my laptop but the screen and metal top lid were now brand new and spotless! Weirder still, when I turned on the laptop everything on the screen was tiny, the task bar and all the text, it was as if everything on the screen had been shrunk down. After a few moments of confusion I quickly realised that they had in fact replaced the screen with a 1920x1080 lcd, rather than the original 1366x768 it came with. After some research I've learned that this is actually the screen from another, more expensive, model of zenbook, the UX31A.
There wasn't anything wrong with the screen, so I can only assume that while they were repairing (or transporting) my laptop they damaged the screen/lid and replaced it with a higher resolution screen, perhaps because that was all they had in stock, or they just didn't realise it was a different resolution. I'm not sure whether my experience shows their incompetence or helpfulness, it certainly didn't take long for the repair but I can't understand how they could damage the screen doing something as simple as an HD replacement. Anyway I'm certainly not going to complain as I've now got a full HD laptop out of it.
Some things are set up a bit differently on the laptop, for instance some of the asus programs that came with it are different and I can now actually see the iSSD. I've managed to make everything bigger so I can actually see it using DPI and a Firefox plugin so thats not a problem.
The only other thing I'm having trouble with is the battery, I don't seem to be getting as nearly long as I used to. At about 90% it said it had about 4 to 4.5 hours left (it kept changing). This is on battery saving mode with brightness on low, and wifi on. So basically the max I could get is about 5 hours, whereas before I was getting 6-7 hours and sometimes even more.
Does anyone else have this problem?! Any tips to get longer battery? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
1080P screens can be a LOT more power hungry than 768p ones.
-
Oh dear that's not good! Do you think thats the reason?
Not entirely sure what to do to be honest
The battery meter (time remaining) is all over the place and changing from one moment to the next. 5 and half hours, changed to 3 hours, now 4 and a half hours, all in the space of a minute. Plus the Power4Gear meter is often different to the built in, sometimes significantly.
Perhaps because this model wasn't designed for a 1080 screen its confusing/draining the battery?
Also what if I change the resolution output to 1366*768? Will I get better battery life or is it more of a hardware thing? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It's simply driving more pixels so they need more power.
You could also make sure that nothing is activating the graphics card. Also your display should be brighter than your old one (1080p panels usually are), try dimming it a bit to make it a fairer comparison. -
Thanks meaker,
I have it on lowest screen brightness at the moment, level 1/10. I ran a 'Battery Eater' test yesterday- the intensive one where it constantly renders a 3D battery. The laptop lasted for 2 hours before going into hibernate (5%). Not particularly impressive but I guess this is the minimum I can expect with heavy use, not everyday usage.
I also did my own more realistic test, using the 'readers test' for a bit (scrolls text), a while spent idle, and a fair amount of casual web browsing in Firefox, few tabs open but no videos. With this the Battery lasted about 4 hours 45 minutes before going into hibernate.
Not bad but this was only quite light use and is still far from the 6-7 hours I was getting before with normal use.
Also slightly worrying was these stats it gave:
Designed Capacity 45640mWh
Full Charged Capacity 42455mWh (First Test) 41146mWh (Second Test)
Not sure why it was lower on the second test but these stats seems to suggest that the battery is only working at around 90-93% of its intended capacity. Perhaps this is normal as it was bought in October, but then again it wasn't used much until around March this year.
Ultimately I bought this laptop for university as I wanted a good battery life, for lectures and using it on the move without worrying about power. I didn't want a 4-5 hr one, I wanted something that would last 6 or 7 hours if needed, as this laptop is supposed to according to reviews. Now I can't even get 5 hours from it and I'm more likely to get around 4 with normal use.
But this new screen is a lot better than the fuzzier, lower res/quality screen that it came with, it has better viewing angles and a better finish too. It's from the UX32VD which is alot more expensive, so I feel kinda silly complaining and I'd feel even sillier asking them to put them worse screen back on it.
So yeh, I'm kinda stuck.
P.s How can I make sure nothing is activating the graphics card? -
I have an UX32VD and have changed hdd to ssd and have changed the RAM to 8GB so now I have 10GB. In result this give me like 30 minutes advantange. Maybe adjusting the ICC profile will make certain changes in the battery life
-
I can upload my spyder 3 pro ICC profile from my ux32vd if people want to it.
-
At the moment I'm using the Power4Gear Battery Saving mode, I think I kept most of the settings at default but here's the settings:
I'm starting to get pretty annoyed tbh, first the hard drive failed and now I'm getting about half of the battery I'm supposed to. I know the higher res screen uses up more power but it's from the UX32VD which has the same battery anyway, so surely I should be able to get about the 5 hours of battery that the UX32VD gives? -
Hi. My new UX32A hangs for a long time trying to close a program that is listed but blank (invisible item) on the Win7 restart dialogue box.
I've deleted most of the bloatware but it has had no effect.
Any come across this or have any suggestions?
Thanks. -

Cancel the restart and see if anything resource intensive pops up in your task manager.

What should I do if I wanted to use the SanDisk SSD i100 as storage? Got a Samsung 830 SSD running as main, never used the iSSD. Is it safe to delete the two iSSD partitions and use the 24GB storage?
-
You can use it as windows virtual memory. It saves your space in your main ssd
-
Yes please do.

Be aware its write endurance is pretty low.

Hello!
What is this a SSD with TPM in Asus model UX31A- XB72?
Does this model have other case dimensions comparing to UX31A- DH71model (the same way as model UX32VD has thicker case for having other hardware)?
Will this TPM affect my usage of this laptop in any way? For example, can I still install Windows system which I gain from torrent trackers, ah? ;-)
Any limitations/restrictions/discomfort? They say this TPM forces me as a owner to set the password to boot the machine.... Can I switch off this option? Whats gonna be if I forget the password? Do I need to send the laptop to Asus official service?
Any comments on this topic from the owners of such TPM machine are welcome!
Thanks!
