    Hello!

What is this a SSD with TPM in Asus model UX31A- XB72?

Does this model have other case dimensions comparing to UX31A- DH71model (the same way as model UX32VD has thicker case for having other hardware)?

Will this TPM affect my usage of this laptop in any way? For example, can I still install Windows system which I gain from torrent trackers, ah? ;-)

Any limitations/restrictions/discomfort? They say this TPM forces me as a owner to set the password to boot the machine.... Can I switch off this option? Whats gonna be if I forget the password? Do I need to send the laptop to Asus official service?

Any comments on this topic from the owners of such TPM machine are welcome!

    Thanks!

You can legally download windows, just so long as you have a valid key.

Don't pirate the software, that's just immature. Otherwise it's not an issue to do the above.

can someone please give me advice on getting windows 8 to function properly in every way on my ux31a that came with windows 7? My battery life has gone to crap . I'm guessing having driver issues, or is this normal for windows 8 on this device? I did update to the latest bios.

edit: also can someone please explain why youtube videos lag on this ultrabook? is this normal? why would hd 4000 lag on youtube videos?

Check your GPU activity, go to the nvidia control panel, in the top menu find the activity icon and enable it, in the bottom right it will show a square that will light up when the dedicated GPU is activated and sometimes what is causing it. If something is triggering this by mistake it would hurt your battery life.

it doesn't have a dedicated graphics card, only intel hd 4000.

I fixed my youtube lag issues switching to chrome from nightly, but my battery life is maybe 2-3 hours at most.

    Hi
I did install a 128gb samsung ssd 830 for some moths ago but now Im running out of space so I have changed the hdd back to the original hitachi. When I used the samsung ssd I did format the inbuilt iSsd to use it as storage. Now when I have changed back to the hitachi hdd, how do I make sure that the cahe-function to the iSsd does work as it should?
If I open "my computer" I can see a disc called E: that is the iSsd (29,8Gb). It looks like the other hdd partitions. I dont remember, but should I really see the iSsd when I open "my computer"? I hope you understand what I mean.
Once again, my question is: How do I make sure that the cache-function to the iSsd works as it should?

    Thanks

    hello guys, kinda new here.
I have a ux31a, when i first open the laptop, cpu temperature is around 45, after a few minutes of web surf it goes to 70-80 (C).
i have checked the advanced power options and set cpu fan to always on but it doesnt change. and the situation is same on both windows 7 and 8.
i am using SpeedFan and CoreTemp to detect cpu temperature but couldn't found any tool to detect fan speed rpm.
using latest bios and other drivers from asus, OS is manually installed (not the stock one)
    any help would be appriciated.
    thanks

How old is the system? If a few months try cleaning the vents with compressed air. Dont forget to stop the fan blades spinning though.

I'm looking at a $900 Zenboook UX31A which has much better specs for the money than the Samsung Series 9 in the same price range (It's got a 1600*900 display, 128 gb SSD, and an i5). I'm curious if there are still any open problems with the UX31A: I've heard bad things about the trackpad but many have said it was fixed with a driver update. I've also heard of problems with fan pulsing after sleep wakeup: Was this ever fixed? I've heard of WiFi problems with some other Ultrabooks, does anything similar exist with the UX31A?

Finally, I want this as a notetaking laptop so I'm wondering how good the keyboard is.

For reference, this is the one I'm looking at:

    Newegg.com - ASUS Zenbook Intel Core i7 4GB 256GB SSD 13.3" FHD Ultrabook Gray Aluminum (UX31A-R4003V)

My previous questions still stand but I have a new one: The machine I linked above has a FHD display but it isn't IPS and is specifically listed as a TFT display. How good is the TFT display on this machine?

Every computer LCD uses TFT, even LED displays. It stands for thin film transistor and is not quoted in specs usually as it's a bit redundant to say it is being used.

Thanks Meaker! I ask because there are two different models listed:

    1. Newegg.com - ASUS Zenbook Intel Core i7 4GB 256GB SSD 13.3" FHD Ultrabook Gray Aluminum (UX31A-R4003V)
    2. ASUS Zenbook Prime UX31A-DH51 13.3" Ultrabook Silver Aluminum - Newegg.com

One has a "FHD" display and the other "FHD IPS". The one that is simply "FHD" has a faster processor, bigger SSD and is actually cheaper. So is there a non-IPS version of the Zenbook UX31A?

I don't think so since other sites list the UX31A-R4003V as having an IPS display.

    Hello,
I've been having a weird issue with my UX32VD. I got a Win8 machine that I'm currently running it as a dualboot (Win7/Linux Mint Maya). When the laptop is running on battery and the battery is a bit low (it has happened at 40-30% but lower as well) the screen starts flickering: Its brightness fluctuates at a very high frequency which makes it a headache to look at. This usually occurs after the monitor has been shut off (for example, when waking the laptop from sleep or when turning off the monitor after Fn-F7) but it has also started on its own. When I plug the laptop into the AC even just for a moment, the flicker disappears and stays gone even after unplugging the laptop again.

I've tried several things: Turning off the adaptive brightness in services as well as in Windows' own power saving measures and in the Intel driver, and also turning off display power saving features in the Intel driver. I've also de-installed and re-installed various video driver versions which usually made things even worse. This problem happens under Mint as well, though, so I'm worried it's an oddly specific hardware problem.

Any last ditch efforts for this system before sending it back?

    Greetings:

I'm from spain so excuse for my english.
I've searched the information in the post but its very large, I havent found what im looking for.
I've read somewhere that the best screen (fullHD, IPS, matte) is common to all UX31 series. One user told that had a screen problem in his asus UX31 E (with mediocre screen) , he sent back to ASUS and they replaced the screen for the good IPS fullHD of UX31A. So I think all UX31 series (maybe UX32 too) share the same screen connector.
    So my questions are:
    1. ¿anybody could tell me the exact manufacturer/model number/something of the FullHD ips matte screen? (maybe in the devide manager, or with software as Everest, etc)
    2. ¿anybody knows where can I buy a spare screen (the good one)?
    3. ¿anybody knows if it would be easy user replaceable?

    Thanks

So Newegg.com - ASUS Zenbook Prime Intel Core i5 4GB 128GB SSD 13.3" FHD Ultrabook Radiant Silver (UX31A-R5102F) is $750 after a promo code which is a stupendous deal. The $150 off would give me enough money to replace the SSD with something better, actually. So does Asus have problems with opening up the computer and replacing the SSD warranty wise?

How is construction and rigidity? With the Samsung Series 9, I heard of people accidentally bending the computer when putting it in their bags which seems really awful. Is there any sort of similar problem with the UX31A?

Also, what are general thoughts on the keyboard? Is the edge of the machine too sharp to comfortably type with?

    Hey all,

I finally made my mind up and got a UX31A and so far have been very pleased, even though I got the Sandisk SSD. The only (and this is a pretty big) problem I've run into is some big problems with the WiFi chip. I connected to a network and then suddenly today it made up its mind not to connect anymore. It connects but hangs at "identifying". Other computers and phones are currently able to connect to this network completely fine. I went to the Intel site for the Advanced 6235 and installed it but it did not fix the problem. What should I be trying next?

Sorry to bump but I'm about to return the computer. I've tried using the driver with both the Asus and Intel versions as well as running the system recovery abs reinstalling Windows. Any more things I should do before I send it back to newegg?

Is that the whizzing sound or is it the audio repeating sound? If it's the whizzing, that's a hard drive problem and you should return it. If it's the audio thing then it might just be running out of RAM or having a "normal" freeze up.

As for my problem, it works fine on my home WiFi so it might just be something with the router I was trying to connect to. I'm going to go try it around town but so far so good.

It's the audio repeating sound. The frequency is really high and it sounds as if it will crash any second.

I reported it to the seller and they wanted to replace it straight away. I hope they can give me 10gb of ram instead of 6gb this time :)

New owner here. Just received my Asus UX31A-BHI5t11 refurb from Woot today. It is beautiful and so far I love it. I have a major possible charging problem, checking to see if this is familiar to anyone else (i have searched for the last hour or so).

My batter got down to 10%, I plugged in and got "plugged in, not charging" and the ac adapter light is green. I unplugged replugged, changed power settings, rebooted, all to no effect. I shut down completely, and now the light is orange and it appears to be charging.

Anyone else seen this? I'm fine replacing the AC adapter, but I'd hate to have a motherboard problem on day 1. Thank you for any help or info.

New Owner here too, I have been watching and drooling for Asus Ux32VD Zenbook for yongs. Well time has come, I manage to get $1000(Aud) brand new with asus warranty and FHD screen. My niese has the UX31A standard screen. I like it, but again I am really happy with mine, SSD + Ram upgrade for my Lightroom and photoshop, this thing with windows 8 flies!
I also wondering How can I tell or know if my iSSD Cached working?

    Thanks?

    Hi guys,
I have asked a question about overheating earliar, mostly a cleaning of fans suggested, just before doing that i found an interesting solution.
It seems that my fans was not working and someone suggested on another web pagewhich i canr remember now to slowly hitting the middle top of the back few times. Then fan started and idont have overheating problem anymore. This is really a weird solution but it works.

One other thing is wifi performance. I have 2 laptops at home, hp one has no problems but ux31a has lost packets when i ping the router at the sametime. I tried windows 7 and 8 with asus and intel drivers. Is this a knwn issue? what would you suggest?

Can anyone post it's TDP settings available in Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Settings (it can be found in advanced settings of power plans).
    My UX31A has 16W @ 1.70Ghz and 14W @ 1.00Ghz, however, I remember I saw a 10W instead of 14W earlier. Is it a glitch in my brain or what?! BIOS ver is 219.
    My UX21A has 13W @ 1.70Ghz and 13W @ 1.00Ghz. It's weird...
    P.S. Both have i5-3317U.

Which Zenbook do you have... Win8 or Win7 ?... I've never seen a BSOD on a Windows8 machine. It's most likely something you installed recently. Other possibility is failing hardware. Do a system restore to a time before any problems.

I have a UX32VD bought last June and I'm having wifi problems every now and then with the wifi it disconnects and I would have to restart the computer and at times the computer just randomly restarts and I get a "memory dump page". Anyone able to offer any help?

Win 7 BTW. Should I try and upgrade to Win 8?

I've got a UX31A with the standard North American charger. I'll be in Europe this summer, and haven't been able to find the proper 2-pin European adapter for the Asus charger. The charger is a 2-piece design: the main brick plugs into the laptop is universal/multi-voltage, the second piece make a swappable, slide-out piece that fits with the various wall plugs around the world.

Asus eStore was no help at all - they basically told me to keep my fingers crossed that I'd be able to find something from a third party supplier on Amazon. Eventually I found the part (#WS-068-R (EU)) I need here (top of page 4.9): http://www.wellshin.com.tw/03_products/international_power_adapter_plug.pdf

The problem is, I haven't been able to find anyone who sells that part. The only other options is buy a full-blown travel kit for $100+, but that's a waste because I have to buy an entire new charger when all I need is the slide-out adapter -- a bit like buying a whole new laptop just to get a replacement keyboard.

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    HH

Why not just buy an adapter for the plug?

Hi all, I'm trying to get an external microphone to work with the combo audio jack of my UX31A ultrabook. I bought a Y splitter off of ebay, but it hasn't fixed the problem (headphones work, but the external mic isn't recognized (my drivers are up-to-date)). Do I need to buy some other device (ideally, I still want to use the 3.5mm jack)?

We’ve already extolled the virtues of ASUS’s Zenbook Prime UX31A with its speedy Ivy Bridge CPU and gorgeous full HD screen and, though we haven’t tested the 11.6-inch Zenbook Prime UX21A, housse ipad mini retina we know it’s of similar quality. Today at Computex, ASUS gave us the chance to go hands-on with the upcoming touch screen-enabled, Windows 8 version: the UX21A touch.
