spdtool is the worst of the ramflashers =P. and I managed to get thaiphoon burner running after turning off signed driver checks and then running setFSB (for some reason that unlocks the SMBus for thaiphoon burner) and my Nanya ram is not flashable.

Sorry for another hijack post, but how do you overclock the 4650 GPU? I tried Rivatuner and ATI Tools, but neither let me overclock. (I disabled the driver signing requirement.)

It's ok, I was wondering the same hahaha, I haven't tried overclocking yet, I'm still trying to remove all the software I don't need and install all the ones I do.

2.5 hours with all the settings on high (CPU power, LCD brightness, etc) no problem unless you're blasting music or playing games.

    Hi all,

New to board but have been following this thread and am interested in the X1 for general purpose use and photoshop. Any problems that you can think of. Just wondering if this laptop has backlit keyboard that you know of and from what I can see is limited to 4G ram. Is this much of a limitation not to be able to go to 8 like some.

    Thanks
    Munch

There's no backlit keyboard and it is quite a disappointment. I think 4GB should be good enough for Photoshop. The highest you'll need is 6GB for Photoshop alone. Other than the keyboard thing, the only thing I don't like about this computer is that the built-in mouse buttons are difficult to press - not difficult enough to bother me, but difficult enough to notice. So getting a Bluetooth mouse is definitely recommended. And this has Bluetooth built in.

Hey Amazing, Thanks for the info. Not sure what you mean about photoshop needing 6 Gig. I can't upgrade this laptop any higher than 4 right?

Hey AmazingGracePlayer, did it take forever to finish the initial setup? Mines been hanging around the "configuring the system" screen for 12 minutes.

EDIT: took about 25 minutes but it set up. Had me scared for a bit.

Windows 7 64bit can support over 4GB of RAM. And by Photoshop needing 6GB of RAM I mean if you're adding different effects on 20 different pictures at resolutions of 8000x4000 at the same time, you'll need more than 4GB. In other words, 4GB should be enough.

Took about the same for me.

I've got to say, I absolutely LOVE this machine. I've had it for a little under 12 hours i'm just amazed at how good a deal this is.

One question though, How do know what the temp is on the x83?

EDIT: for those of you who care I tried track mania nations forever on high and the highest setting for the F.E.A.R. 2 demo and they both ran flawlessly.

Use GPU-Z to monitor temperature. I just ran Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 on 1280x800 with everything on highest (including AA), and I get about ~40FPS. This is awesome.

I ordered mine a few days ago and it says out for delivery today  How much of the HDD is partitioned? What about the overclocking? Can anyone walk me through that so I get it right and keep it at a stable speed? I refused to leave the house until it gets here. I don't want UPS holding it hostage for another day.

It's partitioned to 75GB + 245GB. You can un-partition it in thirty seconds. And there's no need to overclock, and I will most likely not overclock it until two years later when all the components on this laptop is outdated and have to be overclocked to meet standards.
UPS just left the box outside my door in the 18 degree temperature for an hour and didn't even knock or ring the doorbell. And the car was parked right in the driveway so they should know there's somebody home. Good thing I checked tracking and found out that it's delivered, or the laptop might have been frozen and then cracked...

I just got mine and deleted the extra partition(mine was 138G's, 138G's,and 14G's versus the 75G's that yours was partitioned to).

You said yours has bluetooth built in? Did you figure out how to turn it on? I have tried FN F2 but that just activates the wi-fi. Maybe you got lucky with yours.

Haha, good luck. I started playing with overclocking right away and my rig still isn't all that outdated even after 13 months.

Does overclocking the gpu with the ntune software void the warranty? Obviously a vbios flash should...

1.)Update for those who care. It runs serious sam HD and L4D2 on max (or close to it) with no serious framerate problems.

2.)@AmazingGracePlayer, do you mean internal cracks or external. Mine was out in the cold for a few hours for the exact same reason as yours. Externally it's fine, but should I be worried about more fragile internal parts?

3.) HOW CAN YOU SWITCH THE FN AND CTRL KEYS? This would be easy if the "fn" key was recognized my windows.

Its no big let down to me that it doesn't have bluetooth(I bought a bluetooth dongle just in case it didn't, but I was going to use it on my desktop if it did).

I can say that I am very impressed with this machine. It has handled everything I have thrown at it with stride. If your considering it, I would go for it, if it meets your requirements.

If you want to benchmark your computer, use 3DMark06. Windows gaming scores mean absolutely nothing, but since you asked, here it is:

It should, but like I said, the windows experience index means nothing if you're measuring performance. And same GPU different from card to card. If I can run a game on highest setting at 40FPS, you may only be abl to get 38FPS, or 42FPS.

CPU is T6600 at 2.20GHz, as are all X83VP-X1 CPUs.

I was going to check mine and see if the numbers were the same, but I scheduled a disc check when I restarted it. Now I cant get it to stop. Its says press any key to cancel it, but when I do nothing happens. I have restarted it a few times and I cant skip it. I would let it run, but it doesn't do anything. It stays on the screen that says to cancel the disc check press any key and stops at 1 sec. Any ideas on how to get out of this???

Press and hold the power button for a few seconds to force the computer to shut down. Patience is another method to deal with this problem.

the G51 I'm selling doesn't go above 80c or so while gaming =P. and AMD CPUs generally run hot, the CPU on this X83VP shouldn't get very hot.
