Also, has anyone found a way to remap and swap the fn & ctrl buttons? Ive looked online and it seems to be impossible unless asus releases a bios fix. I hate the placement of it.

Not sure about the newer Win7 laptops but for Vista the recovery disk was NOT a true install disk, but contained an image. However that image was of a CLEAN Vista install, and the utils drivers etc. were installed later via scripts; a step that could be bypassed, leaving you in effect with a clean Vista install.
I certainly hope this possibility remains there for the new Win7 laptops.
To my knowledge there exists no such possibility. Fn is handled at the BIOS level. But don't worry, you hate it now, but in a week or so you will have gotten used to it and your conscious mind won't even notice anymore. -
Well I've had her for 5 days now and is she's a dirty, grimy, little mess..
Other things that are bugging me are the very lightly labeled keyboard...I can touch type okay but there are certain times when you need to see the keyboard labeling like for F10 as an example...that said, I'm usually in a dimly lit environ most of the time but my old HP had jet black keys with bright white distinctive labeling on them and was much easier to see.
On the hard drive partitioning, I think having the OS on its own partition is a good idea and thats how I've rolled with my systems for a long time. If you contain you OS and important data on a primary partition, then it's easier and smaller to do back-ups...and it keeps high head movement of the hdd itself to a minimum without os related sectors getting strewn all over the place the way windows tends to do with one big partition..ie...use the data partition for games, videos, mp3s, and other non critical os related stuff\appz..... -
The way I do it I keep all important data OFF the OS partition
that way if the OS goes or I want to reinstall I don't need to worry about backing up, I just wipe the partition and start clean.

Yeah, Mines has been restarting on its own still.. eventviewer says kernal power 41 or something.. It would just black screen and then restarts and says windows shutdown incorrectly... Newegg told me to contact Asus and if its defective, newegg will repair RMA it (hopefully) and if they can't repair it they will replace it.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem or also getting it?
I just started classes and 2 weeks without a laptop is tough. -
Hi guys,
Just wanted let you guys know that I got mine's in today and so far it's been running like a charm. I love the size and performance, overall it's been nicely designed with lots of hardware features. Looking forward to putting this graphics card to use. -
Been lurking here for a while... I got one of the last of these little hummers from Newegg just yesterday. Loving it so far except...
I seem to have a crash to the windows error recover screen when ever I play Plants vs zombies.
Played twice crashed twice...
So I immediately loaded and played Dragon age origins with no problems (great game btw).
Any ideas???
Am I just screwed with that game or is there a video driver update needed or???
Thanks,
Leno -
never mind.
was a windows compatibility issue....
resolved, back to my games..

I have scoured my stickers and looked at all the spec everywhere I could find( except for the N81H95Vp-SL Rehanna because its all in Chinese) and I can find anywhere where it says th X83vp-x1 has an LED screen. If someone can tell me which sticker to look out or where the found it that would be great.. I do have a sticker that says it lamp contains mercury, which again leads me to believe that it doesn't have an LED screen.
-
Its the sticker to the left of the touch pad and under the ATI radeon sticker.
Says The CPU specs 8 sec express gate, Power4Gear, and then eco friendly LED backlit 16:9 and global warranty. I'm assuming they're talking about the LED screen? -
Just checked and mine doesnt have it. Sounds like you got lucky.
-
i rather have a non-crashing laptop than a LED screen.
-
That sucks. I haven't had a bit of problems with mine. What did ASUS say (except please hold, or try this and call us back)?

anyone figured out how to get the 1 yr accident warrenty? -

Not yet, I mailed mine in with the rebate. I got an email last week from Asus saying that they got my rebate form, no words on the warranty yet.
-
mailed mines today (the AWD papers), did the no-wait rebate, got it confirmed and approved and payment is sent. So rebate is good.

Sup, Me again. It's been 4 months and i'm still in love with this thing. Question though. Has anyone had any luck getting the Wireless N to work? I've looked around and i'm getting mixed results. I don't want to drop money on an expensive router just to have it not work.
Just bought myself an Asus X83VP-X1
