Officedepot has a very good deal on a gateway with the A8 processor for about the same price as the Asus after coupons. Just no dedicated gpu, though the A8 has a slightly better iGPU than the Asus.

    Gateway 15.6" Laptops ~ Model V55S02u (AMD Quad-Core A6-3400M) $350 AC; Model NV55S05u (AMD Quad-Core A8-3500M) $450 AC @ Office Depot B&M ~ YMMV (Competitor's Coupon) ~Ends 9/3/11 - Slickdeals.net

Asus does not include bluetooth. And if you get BSOD after overclocking, more than likely the voltage on one or more of your p-states is too low. Test each p state change individually to find whats stable.

because your cpu clock is too high. Set it down to 2ghz. it's fast enough.

no difference. either stick will clock down to the slowest piece.

    no.

If you want bluetooth, you need to get an 802.11n + BT combo card, if you don't like usb adapters.

HP probooks have this kind of combo card made by Atheros

Well before this i had Lenovo y560 with i3 330m and hd 5730m gpu and i was satisfied with performance, encoding isnt that big factor, id say much bigger facts are overall performance of GPU+CPU, gaming, build quality, battery life..
17 Inch n7110 probably wont get any further then 3 hours.

games i play are new ones and old ones, first of all : CS 1.6, COD4, BF2, NFS SHIFT2, and also some new comers,
    im really in dillema here,

This is how's my n5110 doing so far, just ran few benchs so i can throw in some numbers..

also i plan on playing new Call of Duty black ops and MW3 that is coming out also Battlefield 3 is going to be played,
Shell i go for n7100( same performance as this mine ) or this ASUS? oh gosh

Either will suit your needs quite fine, it comes down to which one you thinks looks better or if you want a bigger screen and things like that. You list your location as Serbia, the Asus is only available at Best Buy in the United States of America.

Nope, it is avaiable here to in serbia :
i am not fan of bigger screen, im already used to 15 inches, and i have a bag for 15inch, and battery will last longer with 15 inch :D

this is link to laptop here

For some reason laptop here is named A53TA , not K53TA like your models.. :D
should i go for asus or dell? ;-DD

Will GT 525 perform Better then HD 6650? i heard GT 525 can clock like GT540 or GT550? wich one will be better for gaming? ;-)

Based on your preferences I think you would be better off with the Asus, they're pretty much equal when it comes to gaming. It's all about what you want and what you're willing to make a tradeoff for.

And what about micro-suttering or lag in gaming? does that occurs with asus cause i've read only throught 50 pages of this subject last night and i was like zombie :D

gaming on this machine goes flawles, just dont want microsuttering or any kind of lags in gaming?

Those defects occur when crossfire is enabled, you will most likely have a more defect free gaming experience with the Dell as Nvidia not only keeps on top of their drivers but it's also not an entirely new product for Dell nor Nvidia.

Figured it out, it was the damn screen saver trying to kick in that was doing it at first, then after disabling it I could run up to the physics test and then bsod lol. Lowered clocks to 2.3 just to run it got p1639 with crossfire on

Where is the temp. sensor located for the CPU? Worried about dust or anything?

@Disgustipated and everyone else clocking up to 2.8Ghz etc.

Once the CPU hit ~80C, it will auto downthrottle, as in it's built into the hardware itself, so even setting all the P states to 2.8, it will still auto down throttle to 800mhz then back up to the top speed, to control temps. The only reason you guys actually complete Intel Burn runs for 5 times is because of this throttling. Look at the GFlops in Intel Burn under Disgustipated's latest PrntScrn at 2.6/2.8Ghz. Gflops in the first two tests are about 24ish then test 3 and 4 they drop to 19ish then test 5 back up to 23ish. Why? because the CPU is throttling down because of the temps after two runs. This is FAR from a stable OC, to me at least, because stable implies NO throttling and the same clock speed throughout the tests, in which for this laptop can only be feasibly done with 2.3/2.4GHz...

So can we confirm that the new chipset drivers get rid of the screen tearing problem at the top of the screen? Got it again last night with the preview drivers...

I was able to match, beat, or be really close on most benchmarks when compared to the Intel Core i7-2635QM. This was done @2.67ghz and some people get higher. When OC'd, this is very comparable in threaded applications. So yeah, "slaughtered" isn't the correct term at all.

One thing that I am seeing, and idk if other people have seen this who are at higher speeds, but I have mine @2.67 at 1.2v, but once it hits 85 it scales back to the lowest clock. Is this a setting I can change or something that I need to lower my clocks to get around. That was running Prime95, so I won't normally hit those temps, but I want everything to be steady.

That's why I say slaughtered. You can't run all day long at that OC.

benchmarks are quick tests that are run for a few minutes.

it's not a fair comparison when one cpu is unstable and underclocks due to high thermals, or when you're comparing a sprint to a marathon.

try encoding a whole bluray movie into h264 2-passes with that OC, and watch your temps and clock speeds..

I'm not gonna kid myself. My A6 beats the core i3-2310m all day long, and may reach almost i5-2410m levels with all-day tasks. But it's no i7.

On my first k53ta unit, I was able to pin the cpu speed to max using k10stat, and push temps past 90 C without throttling.

I'm not gonna try that high of an OC on my current unit, as I'm happy with 2ghz.

dust shouldn't be an issue. The kb can be removed easily, and there is a hole there to allow you to vacuum.
Just blow the dust back into the fan, and it should all fly out the hole.

You don't have the 11.8's installed, that's what you're doing wrong. V8.863 is 11.6, V8.81 is 11.8. Go download the driver package I've linked to previously, it's 11.8.

Those are 11.6... that's what all of you are doing wrong, I presume.

I got the throttling under control. @2.6 Ghz it can easily be controlled, I can do 2.6 Ghz runs all day @ 27 GFLOPS without throttling.

I downloaded and installed the ones on the Asus site. It lists the same driver version under the update on the site (8.863), but under august 31 instead of june 28, which was the previous driver date listed on the site. I had the following drivers installed from the 11.8 preview drivers (which didn't seem to upgrade the 6600 at all):

    6520-
    8/15/2011
    8.880.8.0

    6600 (and 6500 rolled backback)-
    5/9/2011
    8.835.1.1000

I rolled back the 6500 driver so I could install the new Asus drivers, and BOTH cards were upgraded to 8.863. The results: Slack-jawed holy s*** reaction. I went to go test out my psp emulator, I just got a good 70% increase on the framerates 0_0! Went from like 10~12 fps at its worst to 18~20 in the same conditions. Over 100fps in the intro movie vs. 50~60 from before. It still uses mainly the 6500 gpu for whatever reason, but I do see the 6600 flashing activity more than before. I really need to test this with other games, but so far the drivers look like WIN for me.

I don't think Asus is actually using the same 11.8 drivers. These seem to be much different and optimized for the k53ta, as they should be.

I've heard it said that you shouldn't use buffering and such for crossfire because when the two GPUs are working together under crossfire there's already a sort of buffering going on to run them together smoothly. Supposedly, adding onto that in game settings is unnecessary and actually degrades the quality. Different story if you're not in crossfire and only using the dedicated though.

I updated the chipset drivers the other day, and I'm now running off the battery for the first time since the update. I'm trying to dim my screen brightness, but it's not cooperating. It was fine the last time I tried to adjust it, and the only change I've made is the updated driver. Has anybody else noticed this issue, or is this a coincidence and there's another problem?

I've tried different power plans (balanced, high performance, amd power saver) and the screen brightness never changes. I've tried adjusting the sliding bar. I've tried advanced options. Nothing. This bright screen is killing my battery life.

I had to bump my voltage up a tick to 1.0875 at 2.2 GHz. Temps remain at 75-76, and stability is fine. I'm sure it can go higher, but it's more than fast enough for what I'm doing. I just played a bit of Crysis and was getting 45-55 fps at 1280x720 with the Triple-C pack mod in DirectX 10. No noticeable microstuttering with Crossfire. Disabling CF would drop performance 5-10 fps.

This little laptop is a beast.

My Asus pack installed 8.863. I'm not sure which they version they are, but I probably won't change until 11.9. I will say that MSI Afterburner lets you change the clocks on these, but the applications won't load with it enabled. I did see a slight increase in performance, though. Here's hoping its just the start! Catalyst 12 please???

I just redownloaded from the asus website and ran it up through the catalyst install manager. The package definitely includes driver version 8.863. If you upgraded with the official/modified 11.8 drivers, perhaps you didn't uninstall them properly before upgrading with the official asus pack (though I thought you had decided to keep the 11.8 ones anyway :/). Not sure...

I'm about to test some more games and do some benchmarks. I'll let you guys know.

    ***EDIT***

So here's what I've seen thus far:

    Cinebench = the same

WEI = went from 5.3 in graphics to 5.2, and from 5.9 to 5.8 for the hard drive (probably because it's getting full now).

Super Street Fighter 4 arcade edition = pretty much the same performance in benchmarks, but slightly better than last time I tested, 5501, 63.6 fps with all setting on max and AA off.

Dolphin Wii emulator = not sure if the drivers work the same or worse there...

PSP emulator = dramatic performance boost.

Drivers can make some interesting changes indeed.

It looks fine to me. This has to deal mostly with the color temperature settings of the display. You can play with this in the Graphics Control Panel -> My Built In Displays -> Display Color (Built in display) -> Color Temperature Control.

The temperature is set to 6500K by default. The higher the value the bluish it gets, the lower the value, the yellowish it gets.

BTW if you check the Use extended display identification data, the screen will become pinkish which is a longstanding bug (at least a year?) with all recent ATI drivers for all HD5000 series and HD6000 series of cards.

Yes, Kukri. Both 6500M and 6600M series display as having 8.863 driver version and 06/28/2011 date. I believe that 06/28 date is when the drivers first started being built and they were just released in late August.

On a side note...has anyone found that when you adjust the luminosity in Deus Ex it does nothing? I adjust it and the brightness or nothing for that matter changes. Its as if something is overriding it.

    Anyone seen this memory?

    Newegg.com - G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model F3-12800CL11D-8GBSQ

I just sold my old m11X and it worked out better to sell the 8GB of memory with it so I'm in need of more memory again. Anyways, it looks like for an extra $30 I can step up and pick up 2 sticks of 4GB DDR3-1600..

Looks like the primary difference is 11 CAS versus 9 CAS of most other sticks. The other one I have my eye on is this:

The K53 doesn't support DDR3-1600. Better to order one 4 GB stick of 1333 and pair it with the existing RAM.

Thanks! Probably going to pick up the high priced one, people are saying they've had success clocking it even further, so it may futureproof me when I upgrade to the next latest and greatest.

^^^ has anyone determined whether our k53ta supports 1600mhz ?

if not, then it doesn't really make a difference, because then you'd be running 1333..... though at lower cas timings if you remove the factory samsung ram

More info on the above: The M model APUs will only support up to 1333MHz RAM regardless of what the board supports. Theoretically installing an MX series APU (3410MX, 3530MX etc.) would enable 1600MHz on this chipset, but so far untested by any of us. I'm just saving my pennies right now for that very upgrade.

SO i just did a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on my K53ta
because it was constantly having hiccup problems and games were running
on very low fps compared to what other ppl have been saying
(I only got like 1 ~ 20 fps in Starcraft 2 on lowest settings)

I tried installing the AMD graphics drivers/AMD Catalyst 11.8 suite from AMD site but it keeps on saying that My computer is not compatible with these drivers so I cannot install them...

When I click on Automatically detect and install drivers from the AMD site,
it says "We were unable to find your product or OS"

and when I manually download the catalyst 11.8 software/driver suite
it says "AMD Catalyst Mobility cannot be downloaded due to incompatible hardware/software on your computer. You computer does not contain a proper graphics adaptor."

    Is this normal??????
how can I fix this and install the proper drivers!?

    PLEASE HELP!!!

^^^You either have to install the preview drivers or download the chipset driver from Asus. AMD can't detect our system.
