In both quality and features, they're still significantly inferior to the k53ta. It wouldn't be the great gaming machine it is without the 6720G2.

I just ordered one of these as I am not in the US and they still have these on sale. I've been waiting for Llano Fusion systems for awhile but they've been absolutely slow in coming and only recently have they been on sale. The only other competitors were Lenovo and HP and neither had Crossfire graphics and the Lenovo had the 6620G but that was at 600 dollars and the HP was a dual core and only the 6480G IGP.

Silly question, but does anyone know how I can confirm that all four of my processor cores are on? I was running K10STAT last night, after a clean WIN 7 + ASUS drivers install, and the P State tab was only showing values for 'Core 0' and 'Core 1.' The info tab also said duo instead of quad.

Fingers crossed I didn't break anything!

    Download HWInfo64: HWiNFO64 Download

Gives a nice real-time graph of your four cores.

And are you sure you bought a K53TA and not a K53U with an E-350?

    WingNut,

I'll give that program a try when I get home, thanks for the advice.

I found out about the K53TA too late, I purchased the A35TA which also has a quad-core processor (same specs overall for the most part).

The A4 is a dual core CPU not quad.

Yeah, it says quad core under "CPU support". A bit misleading. I'm sure they would accept a return based on their incorrect description.

none of those machines compares to the bestbuy asus k53ta.

newegg made a mistake, previously listing the A6 cpu. Looks like they didn't delete the quad core reference after correcting the cpu mistake.

$600 for a slowass dual core is a rip off.

After getting my $427 k53ta, plus $5 for extra 4gb samsung ram, I am unimpressed with all the other A6 "deals".

I don't remember who posted the Asus graininess complaint email sometime ago but since search hasn't worked in eons can someone please post it again? I think it was link who posted it. Does the page swipe feature (in the elan touchpad control panel) work for anyone? I've tried it multiple times but cannot get it to function correctly.

No, it's the 8th option in the Elan control panel, it's called swipe page. It's three fingers and it's supposed to be pgup and pgdn but I can't get it to work. I have signatures and avatars turned off to keep everyone garish images from distracting me from their input, thanks for telling me even though you (most likely) thought I was being incompetent.

Did you download the card reader driver? It's described as "Realtek Multi-Card Reader Driver". If Windows recognizes it then it should be listed as a device in the Computer window where your partitions and removable media are shown. Also, if anyone else besides that guy who is looking for old drivers needs help post it again so people can see it and help.

I have no memory cards on me to reproduce this and find a solution, only advice I can give you is to make sure there's no dust in the memory slot hole, the memory card is clean, and reinstall the drivers after an uninstall.

my sd card works without problems.

    i'm using windows native drivers.

I did not install any unnecessary drivers.

you have to make sure the card is securely in the slot. Sometimes the spring inside will eject the card after you push it in.
so you may hear the windows sound, but your card is actually ejected.

I've noticed a problem only once trying to read one of my microsd card adapters. It happens with that type of stuff. Sometimes a card reader just doesn't like a particular card, for whatever reason. However, I did have a corrupted microsd card which no other card reader was able to even read, but when i popped it into this computer it saw it immediately and fixed it right up.

Forum Owners, you can revive your SEARCH function simply by going into the Admin Panel and Indexing your Search. A very, very simple fix that can be done in a matter of minutes Man it pisses me off when a site like this doesn't know what they are doing... sheesh...

Anyhow thought I'd write a quick guide on optimizing your pc as it sounds like many of you are still using unneeded programs that don't do a lick for your computer, and actually just robs it of performance, so here's a quick look at what you need to have running on your PC, let me know if you have questions...

    GUMBA's OPTIMIZING K53 SOFTWARE GUIDE:

I recommend removing all the BLOATWARE that came with the computer with exception to the Realtek drivers and Catalyst Control and Power2Go which I believe is the burning software.. everything else uses up ram and takes away from performance. Remove every program you see listed in this bloatware removal thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/380681-asus-utility-bloatware-guide.html If your goal is to maximize power I highly recommend removing BOTH bloatware and STOPPING all unneeded services that rob your computer from its true potential... below I've posted a snapshot of my Task Manager and the Services I run on my PC. This is all you need to have running Also if you want that last little bit of performance, I stop explorer.exe, dwm.exe and any game loading software like steam.exe or origin.exe in Task Manager before I game, free's up that last bit of additional ram

Here's a snapshot of my Task Manager, this is all that should be running, anything more and you are wasting power...Note the Physical Memory at 14%, you are minimizing the amount of RAM by removing this crap, thus allowing your computer to use more resources to what you want like gaming :)

    SERVICE GUIDE
and these are the needed services that should be running on your PC, anything else and you are losing performance. To stop a service you first need to enter services, type services.msc in your search box to pull up the program... click the specific service that is not listed below and select Disable and Stop. Run through all the services one-by-one and then check your Task Manager to see how many programs you've eliminated. Have fun

Anyhow hope you guys use this guide to removing unneeded services and bloatware, will make a night and day difference in performance.

Please let me know what you think.

And for those who want to know a few more Windows tricks, let me know I can post them if interested...

    :)

a new (old) problem has arisen.

our stupid AMD graphics card can't play opengl games.
just another way AMD released this broken crap.

This is why intel and nvidia will always be king.
Screw Trinity. AMD can't beat them by jerry rigging this crap together.
If it weren't for the $427 price tag, i would be a lot more pissed.

Check out the fine print at the bottom of amd's page- AMD Dynamic Switchable Graphics Technology

the new game Rage can only be played with integrated graphics.
it refuses to run on dedicated even though i have crossfire disabled and the exe set to high performance.

integrated graphics runs like crap. it's unplayable, even at a pitiful 1024x600 resolution. It runs like 15 frames/sec.

EVERYONE, YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO.

    Email asus ! http://vip.asus.com/eservice/techserv.aspx
Tell them OpenGL games refuse to use dedicated graphics card.
I think HP has a bios fix where they can select dedicated fixed mode, where you use dedicated graphics for everything.

Asus needs to come out with a similar fix. Otherwise you won't be able to play new opengl games.

Here is a sample email to send-
    Code:
Please forward to notebook bios engineers-

Level of importance: pretty darn IMPORTANT.

K53TA with radeon 6650m dedicated graphics card unable to run OPENGL apps and games (such as Rage pc game) on the 6650m discrete graphics card.
It uses slower integrated graphics only.
Integrated graphics opengl performance is TERRIBLE.
You need to fix bios to allow option to disable integrated graphics.

HP had similar problem before, and released bios workaround.
    Read details in below link-
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02948560&lc=en&cc=mx&dlc=es

Here is further detailed description of openGL problem affecting Asus K53TA-
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c02731962&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

PLEASE RELEASE A SIMILAR FIX IN THE NEXT BIOS UPDATE !
Please give us the bios OPTION TO DISABLE INTEGRATED GRAPHICS.
We cannot play openGL games otherwise.

All openGL games listed in link below will not switch to dedicated graphics-
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_OpenGL_programs.
You can use these games to test,
and use AMD System Monitor to verify that 6650m card is not being used-
    http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/amd-system-monitor/pages/overview.aspx

same opengl crap happens to most people using AMD graphics.
E420s switchable graphics with opengl - Lenovo Community

and this is probably the reason why some games you play run like absolute crap. They're probably opengl games.

My next laptop is definitely going to be intel + nvidia.
AMD integrated gfx is not sufficient, AMD cpu is not sufficient either. So the choice is a no-brainer.
With AMD, it's like we're driving a riced out honda civic....... we're always tinkering under the hood, overclocking stuff because it's pitifully slow in stock config. And since everything is jerryrigged, lots of stuff fail to work more often than not.

I must say I just tried out rage last night and it runs like as Gordan Ramsay would say, udder rubbish!!! lol Wasn't sure was going on had it overclocked to 2.4 and was getting like 16-20 fps. This explains it now. Prob wouldn't be bad at all if the 6650 could get in on the action

I guess it's more a problem of open GL support on the dedicated graphics. Hopefully AMD will release a fix soon. If it's a new game they most likely will.

Anyone here been on the Star Wars: The Old Republic beta?

I've been playing with it on this laptop and have only gotten so-so performance. The beta client also seems pretty wonky as far as windowed (everything seems to run better windowed on this laptop), full screen, full screen exclusive, etc.

Has anyone noticed looseness in the top right section of the keyboard? On mine I noticed today that the base doesn't seem pinned down to the laptop in that section of the keyboard. Would that be glue coming loose?

    there is no glue.

the keyboard is bendable in whatever shape you want it.

so you should unscrew the kb, and bend that area until it sits flat when clamped down.

that does not solve the problem.
I already had the latest opengl component.

the problem is that the stupid AMD graphics solution will not switch to the dedicated graphics card when playing ANY openGL game, even stuff released years ago.
    That's how incompetent AMD is.

Can someone help me, I can't overclock the GPU. Whenver I try to disable the ULPS in Sapphire it doesn't work (yes I restarted after pressing the button). I also disabled it in the registry and I still get the same message with Sapphire, it keeps telling me to disable the ULPS.

So what should I do here to fix this?

You totally took a shot in the dark, but it paid off!

I've been in the beta for a couple months now. I've played it on both my desktop (Phenom II x6 Nvidia GTX 260 6gig ram) and my K53ta. I have no trouble running the game on high settings on either computer, when the Asus is overclocked. Performance has not stuttered at all, and that was on earlier beta phases.

I've also only played the game in full screen. Not sure why you would be having issues, except that it's a beta and still has a few months to release.

I have read a lot in the last few days on the Llano stuff it varies from it is crap to the most wonderful thing since sliced bread. The issue it has brought me to and maybe just because I do not understand the inner workings of cpu/apu/gpu?

My main concern now is were we ripped? What software is trustworthy? Are we getting what we believed we paid for?

I have seen threads on other forums claiming the APU's are locked, overclocking just shows numbers and really does not do anything?

There is only one gpu working (the slower one)?

Maybe I am just a worry wart over nothing as overclocked versus stock in synthetic benchmarks I see differences. I also see performance increases in the games I myself play.

Now the software issue in MSI afterburner I see three GPUs in the onscreen display 2 running at 400x667mhz and the other, although no mhz shows fluctuation (GPU 3) increases of 37/75 % during game play.

Windows system shows the stock CPU speed although over clocked at 2.5GHz

Sapphire trix shows the GPU running at 800x1334 Mhz

I know I know as long as I see the increases work why worry? ;)

Just wonder if we can use a 3d LCD like the CMO N156B6-L3D on this laptop with aditional glasses?
It has the same 40pin connector located at the bottom of the panel.
