Heeey nice. Is it definitely confirmed that these keyboards fit/work properly in the K53TA? And if they do, how does a backlit one work? Is the light just always on? There are no FN keys to increase or decrease the backlight brightness...

It would need power from somewhere, and unless a backlit keyboard is an option I doubt it will provide power for it.

Hmm, good point. Were there regular chiclet style replacement keyboards that are confirmed to work in the K53TA? I did a quick search on ebay for similar items but didn't see anything (more to the point, im not sure which models are compatible so I'm not sure what to look for.)

why would you need a hdmi dvi cable? and they sell dvi to hdmi adapters but hd tv's have hdmi slots and so does the laptop so wondering why you'd need one.. heres the link for hdmi to dvi and the screws can be turned all the way out so they don't get in the way when plugging it in....

    Wow, thanks. Good deal.

How well does the K53TA play Battlefield 3? A friend of mine is looking for a laptop that can play Battlefield 3 otherwise he'll play older games and use for general web surfing, etc.

If it can play BF3 on low detail at 1366x768 at > 30fps he'd be a happy camper.

BF3 frame rate is all about resolution. Lower it and get acceptable fps.

With regard to the power, it could be taken from a USB port or internal Bluetooth.
What do you think about it ? :)

Well if you can manage to solder on the ribbon cable have at it. I'm sure it's 5v, but then make sure you don't expect to use a power drawing device from the same USB port (i.e. HDD).

What do you think about OC potential of a4-3300m?

Will duo 2310/2330m+gt540 be a lot better, in games, than Ati 6650 + oc'ed a4?

All i found was about a6 and I'd prefer K43 which is unavaible with a6 in my country.

Plus one more thing. I saw somewhere, don't remember where, that 8gb increase performance a lot. Is it true? Games don't need more than 4gb and I don't need more for other tasks so is it worth to buy 8gb?

It's not the actual quantity that matters here. Rather, adding a second RAM module allows the system to run in dual-channel mode, which allows for more memory bandwidth and better performance. Since memory is so cheap these days, it's a very cost-effective upgrade. A 4 GB stick can be had for $20, less if you can get it on sale.

I'm having some problems with my K53TA lately.

Whenever I go to play a game such as Skyrim or SC2, all I get is a black screen as if the display driver isn't working properly, I can hear music and move up and down the menu but I can't see anything. The only way I can get an image is when I turn off high performance and it runs on the integrated 6520, albeit much much slower.

I tried the latest chipset drivers from Asus, I tried the latest catalyst drivers from AMD. No luck. Skyrim also only shows the 6520 in the pulldown.

    Help!

    Try turning off ULPS.

See my post here for the registry entires. Just download and extract, double click ULPS_disable.reg, approve it, and then reboot your machine.

My K53TA-BBR 17" laptop was stolen. Now, I am looking for the replacement and found K53TA-A1 (new). I looked at the specs and they look the same except the ram is 6G. Has anyone has any info on this laptop? Alternatively, I will get the "refurbished" K53TA-BBR6 15.6".

Edit: How about ASUS A53TA-XE2? It seems pretty good as a replacement for K53TA.

A53TA-XE2 and the K53TA-A1 are basically the same as the K53TA-BBR6. Only minor differences, like ram.

About to order one of these from Newegg for someone and I think I may have asked before but the screen banding issue has been fixed with a BIOS update, correct?

Edit - Never mind. I gotta read the first post more often

Yes,the screen banding has been fixed but at the moment there is no way to overclock the discrete graphics (at least with the latest drivers, with 8.863 you can).
Sapphire TriXX does not work and MSI Afterburner gives a BSOD.
    Ciao ;)

I tried the drivers, and they installed ok and didn't seemed to change anything. Also not sure if anything was improved. It's possibly louder, but I doubt it; It's probably my imagination.

About the banding--> it's been fixed since bios 206, and 207 was known to reving up the fan speed more when temperatures became warmer. Also Screen quality/ banding varied depending on whether people got the nicer Samsung LCD panel brand or the cheaper panels (forgot the name).

I took the leap and tried out flashing the k43ta's 211 bios (since the k53ta seems to use the same bios file; compare the bios for both the k43ta and k53ta 207 - same file it looks like).

It worked, or rather no problems so far, so I'm assuming it's ok. Tried gaming a bit and didn't really notice any max temp changes. Bios screen did not have any new options... so likely no big benefit to having the newer bios version. Bummer.

It's Chimei and I have one of those. :( It's grainy and really bad viewing angles though without a Samsung to compare it with I can't tell which is better or worse than the other.

I have now received my new 1920x1080 screen and installed it into the laptop. Now, I can't quite get it to work correctly. Messing with display settings in Catalyst, I changed the refresh rate from 60 Hz to 40 Hz, the only way I can view anything on the new LCD, but there is either an overlay of red or pink. Messing with color and gamma settings work to an extent, but don't seem to get rid of the overlay completely, even without any saturation.

When I try to change the refresh rate back to 60 Hz, I receive this error:
Viewing on an external monitor, I receive this error: [IMG]

Could the problem be that the motherboard doesn't supply enough power, could it be an issue with the cable (even though it is 40-pin), or could it be something else?

Hello people, glad to be here in your comunity.

I just bought this notebook after reading a few reviews over the internet.I went to a local shop and bought it. It came without OS.
    It has 4GB RAM(1 stick Kingston),640GB HDD@5400rpm,[email protected] - 2.3Ghz.

Can you please suggest, what version of W7 Home Premium should i install (x86/x64)?

Should i overclock it?Will i get any improvements in FPS? I want to play games like Crysis2, WoW,Fifa 12,PES 12,GTA IV, COD:MW3, Sims 3, Far Cry 2, NFS Shift etc.

Should i buy another 4GB of RAM?

Sorry for bad english, not my native language. :)

When i bought this laptop it came without an OS,that's why it was cheaper.I only have a DVD with Ubuntu, which i don't want to use it.
If i call Microsoft support and tell them that my ex laptop is broken and i'm not using the W7 HP anymore, why can't they transfer my license to this one?

I want to do an upgrade to the RAM and i am kinda confused because i ran Everest and from the info i got from the log i understand that i have DDR3 which runs @685 mhz. (see below) :
    ---------------------------
    DIMM # 1
    SMBus address 0x51
    Memory type DDR3
    Module format SO-DIMM
    Manufacturer (ID) Kingston (7F98000000000000)
    Size 4096 MBytes
    Max bandwidth PC3-10700 (667 MHz)
    Part number ASU1333S9-4G-ECEWG
    Serial number 8C36CF41
    Manufacturing date Week 25/Year 11
    Number of banks 8
    Nominal Voltage 1.50 Volts
    EPP no
    XMP no
JEDEC timings table CL-tRCD-tRP-tRAS-tRC @ frequency
    JEDEC #1 5.0-5-5-14-19 @ 380 MHz
    JEDEC #2 6.0-6-6-17-23 @ 457 MHz
    JEDEC #3 7.0-7-7-20-27 @ 533 MHz
    JEDEC #4 8.0-8-8-22-30 @ 609 MHz
    JEDEC #5 9.0-9-9-25-34 @ 685 MHz
    ---------------------------

And the shop technician told me to buy this(which is 1333mhz) : Kingston ValueRam 4GB DDR3 1333MHz CL9.
    They will work in dual-channel?

That is just the JEDEC table timings. It's 667MHz x 2 (double data rate DDR) ~ 1333MHz. So yes they will work.

And the license that typically comes with laptops from Acer, HP, Dell, etc is an OEM managed and owned by them. It's specific to them and their laptops. They get it at a very cheap rate, but is limited to their machines only, and specific machine. If you got a replacement from Acer, then Acer would have to provide you with an updated key.

I've only managed to find one pertinent post or reply about installing a 35w a8-500m in this laptop besides mine, and it was about a guy trying to put a 45w a8-3510mx has anyone heard an update on that post or know of anything similar being done.

Hey guys I just got an asus A53TA and I was gonna upgrade my ram but the panel seems to be stuck. I unscrewed the screw but I'm not sure if I need to unscrew anymore than that alone and I can't seem to find any that fit threw the holes anyways. So I was just wanting to ask if any of you know if there are multiple screws that need to be taken out to get to the ram?

just one screw and then get an old credit card or something and try to pop the locks. There should be about 3 locks on either side. don't force anything, these things are extremely fragile.

Edit: after updating the bios now I have a grainy screen. From What I'm told is that 208 has removed that but they only supply 207 for the A53TA

Does anyone here played GTA 4 under Windows 7 x64? I ask this because i just installed this game on my notebook (k53ta) and it seems that i get some stuttering while i play. I don't know if this is the exact term which best describes my problem so i'll try to explain : when i drive a car and press the keys left/right i get this "mini-stop" of the image before the car actually goes left/right as if my computer tries to catch-up with the image i receive on screen.
I've also had installed W7 x86 and GTA4 and everything worked fine, but after some friends recommended and someone from this forum, i installed a 64 bit version of W7, I did a clean install, formatting the partition C on which i installed W7 and i installed the game on partition D.I didn't overclocked the CPU or GPU.

    Any ideas?

    LE :
    1. I don't have malware, viruses, spyware etc. i scanned with Hitman Pro, Malwarebytes and also i use Kaspersky Antivirus 2012 as realtime protection.
The HDD isn't fragmented. The temperatures of the CPU,GPU are ok.

    2. It seems that i have some missing drivers SM BUS Controller. Where can i find this driver?

Hello zyromkiru, I am interested in the Asus A53TA but no where to sell, because I'm from Mexico and a cousin bought it and I want you to tell me in which shop you bought the laptop, thanks!

You aren't going to like the answer but I got it from TigerDirect VERY recently and a few days of purchasing and I see this computer is out of stock everywhere and discontinued.
