Edit: or you can buy that guys ^

The only way you can get a K53TA is if it is a USED one but if you want an A53TA they MIGHT still be selling them in the CompUSA stores (dont know where they are located) and that's only a possibility. Finding any other model in the $500 range is very difficult but there is a computer for $400 that has the Radeon HD 6520g but it doesn't have the Radeon HD 6650m included.

Ill update this within the next few minutes of cheapest/useful computers.

    Gateway NV55S15u LX.WY102.006 Notebook PC - AMD A6-3400M 1.4GHz, 4GB DDR3, 640GB HDD, DVDRW, 15.6 Display, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, Black at TigerDirect.com

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+La...wter/3893083.p?id=1218441016361&skuId=3893083

Thats about all I could find that is close at a cheap price

The one I ordered from Newegg just got here and wow did they ever fix the screen banding. It got here with the old BIOS and after I updated to 207 I was amazed. The difference was night and day.

I mean, I love my dv6z but at $400 I might love this more.

thanks for replying, then you must choose another, I have thought these 2, which would you choose? which they think will be better for gaming?
    Toshiba - Satellite Laptop / AMD A-Series Processor / 15.6" Display / 4GB Memory / 320GB Hard Drive - Matrix Silver - L755D-S5218
    or this
    Asus - Laptop / Intel® Core™ i5 Processor / 15.6" Display / 4GB Memory - Matte Brown Suit - K53E-BBR4

The page that lists the AMD A series doesn't say if it's an A6/A8 or an A4. the A4 is ginmped and the core i5 is gonna be pretty meh as well because the HD3000 of the core i series CPUs is pretty weak.

At a minimum find a machine with an A6 AMD if you want to game. And overclock it of course.

If you can find an HP dv6-6135dx lkike in my signature get that. With the 6750 GPU it will stomp a plain old A6 or core i into the ground in terms of gaming. A non discrete GPU solution will not be a good gaming experience.

is a A6-3400M with GPU 6520g, is better than the i5 and HD 3000?, personally, I do not like HP, a cousin had one and failed many times, I prefer Asus or Toshiba

Anyone playing SWTOR? How's it performing? Especially in Warzones.

About to re-install windows if this doesn't start performing better. Not sure if it's a game issue.

For gaming a naked A6 will beat a naked i5 because the GPU is much much better. The i5 will be faster for some older games that run dx9 but for dx9 games either is probably fast enough. For more modern dx10 or dx11 games, the A6 with it's much faster GPU will usually win, especially if you overclock it.

While I'm no huge fan of HP, the latest DV6 series seems pretty solid.

All i'm gonna say is that you may want to either wait or bump your price up since the 6520g alone isn't enough to tackle the dx11 games out right now. The combined 6520g and the 6650m can handle the games but not the 6520g so much.

use notebookcheck.net as a good reference on how the cards will handle games. Also keep in mind they aren't totally accurate as new drivers come out and you can always overclock :)

Hello, im owner of K53TA with A6 on board, and i have some problems with getting crossfire to work.
Im Using Beta Catalyst 12.1 (Tested another too) and afterburner 2.1.0
Bios 209 and Cpu at 2.4 GHz 1.1v
    dGPU OC to 710/1110

I cant get some games to work on dGPU.
Games like skyrim, MW3 they work just on iGPU, no matter that CF is on or off. (Low low low FPS)
And games like BF3 act strange...With CF off i get like 38Fps, with CF on i getting like 43FPS (and logo in right top corner) but there are micro lags, and becouse of that game runs like on 15 FPS. While i start game on CF off, and then switch to ON game runs w/o microlags w/o logo at top right corner and with performance of 2 GPUs (43fps)

    Usages of GPUs
CF off: dGPU 100% iGPU 0%
CF on: dGPU like 70% iGPU 100%
CF off and then switch: dGPU 100% iGPU jumps from 0 to 100%

Its everything fking strange to me...cant explain it to myself, and im not an newbie.
    TY for all help.

Drop your CPU overclock to 2.2-2.3 GHz and lower your voltage a notch. And, unless something has changed, dGPU overclocking hasn't worked for months, so lose those settings and remove Afterburner as well.

OC on 6650 work fine, gives sighly perfomance boost, in games and benchmarks.
Droping CPU to lower voltage and clocks gives nothing.

Not in the thread on the dv6z in the HP pavilion forum. In fact, the hottest running ones are overclocked and still run at well under 90C.

    Hey you look familiar :p

This is the one I use for theHunter has not failed me yet, but remember these may not work for you. Also watch your temps when overclocking to high a setting can get it really hot.

    For fps use fraps

    Download Fraps 3.4.7 free version

I have not found a single game I can not play even BF3 on default settings gave good performance.

So got this comp through tigerdirect.ca yesterday (refurbished) and I'm just not getting the same performance as everyone else here...
So like as soon as I got it, went straight into overclocking and undervolting, and for the cpu it went fine at 2300 for p0 and same 1.075 v b0 kept the same. Ran intel burn test, gave me same values that were consistent, and I don't remember the temps, but it wasn't anything super high...
But the gpu wouldn't overclock, like the first setting that's at stock 600, I just changed it to 610 and applied settings and it either restarts or blue screens :/
But anyways, I tried loading up batman arkham city and at LOW it runs at 20 frames average, I read on another thread a person getting 30-50 frames, and even on my other comp with a 5650m and a core i3 380m I get 30+ avg on high :/
Btw tried crossfire on and off, no help

Help would be really appreciated, going crazy here lol

    That gives me 2.3 ghz

My temps run about 76 gaming an hour or so.

When you set it just hit apply unless you use a little bat file (found in this thread) you will have to reboot for the settings to go back to normal. I avoided this by setting a stock profile I can change.

    This may help

First of all... is this computer able to get the bios 209? It doesn't show it as a download option for this computer in the drivers area of the asus website.

Someone used this settup and stress tested it 100% for 9 hours and it was at 85C.

All I know is that my pc never uses its boost for some reason

I'm personally wondering if you can have just the 0P and 1P the same and all the others lower and it will stay like that number you set them to

Thats odd? Did you update everything on your computer? It is essential that you have the latest drivers for your graphics card and such, bios, chip update. And yes something must be wrong since ANY game single player can be handled from this PC....

If you see it spiking up to 2.3 every now and then it may just be being weird. I had that happen while messing around but then i restarted at some point and it wasn't doing it anymore.

But same deal for me. Any game I play the CPU never decides to boost to 2.3

In your k10stat settings, make sure you have your cores set to UnGanged mode if you want boost to work. When it is set to ganged or if you have clock control enabled plus locked at the highest p-state, boost will not activate.

If neither of those is the problem, your CPU may not like the speed and voltage of your boost state, so it will lock that core when it activates. That core will kick back down to P and it will likely happen so fast you don't even notice or crash. Try kicking up the voltage on your b0.

The profile I use for gaming is 2.2GHz all p's @1.0875V and b0 of 2.3GHz @1.15V. I've gotten the best balance of benchmarks, temperatures and stability here. Not as power thrifty as some or as fast as others, but rock solid.

Also, I just came across an identical Samsung 4GB module, same run to replace my g.Skill. It's super-symmetrical-dual-channel.

So any update on how to OC the dGPU? Still got to use the old drivers, and mess around with .reg, .ini., and .cfg files? Newegg has this a referb of this up, and was thining of trading in my dv6-6117 for this, but was just wondering how the OC was.

Hmmm, i was able to OC also with older drivers.
Now using 12.1 catalysts, Afterburner 2.1 with modified cfg, and changed ULPS to 0 in regedit (but this problably gives nothing). Still cant OC 6520, only 6650.

Im able to get over 10k points in 3dmark06,
When im gonna have some time, i will upload my scores (need to update benchmarks)
Now just can give an SS.

    Hey guys, pretty big problem.

    Re-installed windows on this rig.

Tried to install newest ATI drivers, and it didn't detect my graphics hardware properly, found the only way for it to detect my graphics hardware is to install the "Chipset" update from ASUS' site. So now I have the drivers the rig comes with. (8.93.w/e)

When I NOW run the updated drivers installer, it won't let me install the display driver because it says 'AMD Display Driver' is installed and up to date.

I've also tried using driver sweeper, etc. To remove those current drivers, but that puts me back in the same position I started with.

Anyone who fixes this gets a cookie.

Go to device manager and under "Display Adapters" right-click on the video card and select "Uninstall" make sure you click "Delete the driver software for this device" to remove the old ATI drivers for your video card. Then Install the latest drivers from here.

The drivers above also include the latest chipset and usb-3.0 drivers you will need.

Didn't work, even though everythings cleaned/vid cards are uninstalled, etc. The new drivers refuse to recognize that they need to be installed.

It installs things like CCC, just not the display drivers. Doesn't detect the hardware to realize it's necessary.

BAH. That download link TRIED to install the display driver automatically, and gave me an error saying .INF not found.

EDIT: Even more strange problem. When I go under custom and look at the display driver that 11.11 link is trying to install, it's attempting to install 8.93 drivers

    *confused*

So just to clarify. We ARE able to OC the dGPU now, but xfire is still not working properly? Any way to get a custom/modded BIOS? Kinda like the guys over in the HP threads. If I knew what the BIOS type was Award/Insyde/etc. I could post a request in another forum for an unlocked/Advance BIOS.

Okay so I went back to the .863 drivers just so I can mess with the overclocking, and I never encountered this problem before but when I set the switchable graphics presets to High Performance, the game boots but all it shows is the mouse but the screen is black. Any help? I haven't been in these drivers for a while. And if it helps, I'm using the 207 bios.

Alright so I decided to install the latest chipset, then the 11.12 drivers, and still when I do the "high performance" on the Configure Switchable Graphics, I load up my game (SC II in this case), and it keeps going to a black screen. I see the in game cursor and the music in the background but no video. Whats up with that?

    Hey All

Not sure if this has been mentioned before but I got my laptop about 3-4 months ago. Recently I have noticed that sometimes I get a funny line/flicker at the top or middle of the screen. Sometimes it happens every few seconds or other times its just randomly. If i reboot it fixs the problem.
Allthough it will again come back after a random amount of time (sometimes days). The problem started happening about a month ago (didnt install or any new drivers or anything exciting)

I was actively reading these forums up to page 100 or so, so not sure if theres been any new drivers/bios etc etc thats come out that maybe I should update to ? Or if theres any other findings/hints/tips thats come out in the last 100 pages would be great to hear about :)

    thanks heaps :)

Ok, so I searched this thread using the tool and yielded no results so I will ask this in a post - does the K53TA handle Star Wars: The Old Republic well? I understand this laptop needs to be set up properly with drivers/OC'ing before it shines? I was hoping to play The Old Republic with this laptop on medium settings. Is that possible here?

Thanks for the info guys :)
Got 207 loaded up and we shall see what happens

On a side notice, Its always annoyed me how the mouse would scroll up and down by itself with the slightest tough (espeacily anoying on forums) even though I disabled that feature in the mouse settings... But now ot doesnt do it anymore :) dunno if its related to 207 update or coincidence, but happy now :)

Just got mine the other day although I discovered an odd problem. I did a clean install of win 7 64 hp. I unplugged the laptop and used it for a bit then plugged it back in. Came back and it wasn't charging. Try unplugging and plugging it back again to no avail. A reboot doesn't fix it. I have to take the battery out and start the laptop with only the charger plugged in. Then I can put the battery in and it will charge. Any ideas?

    thanks,

    Travis

I was having a similar problem with Skyrim after installing the new drivers. Seems simple enough, but just reinstalling the game completely fixed me, after I had tried everything else under the sun.
