I have this same issue with the black screen hang when restarting after installing 12.1 drivers. I tried it 3x and it does this EVERYTIME. you must manually force shutdown and reboot again to get it to work. THAT is a very bad sign about these drivers. I wont use them, clearly there is a conflict of some variety.

Also when you install new drivers make sure you are using a driver cleaner application such as DriverSweeper and make sure you BOOT TO SAFE MODE (F8 for boot options) then use the driversweeper on all AMD drivers. Then I install the original chipset driver v8.863 (the version that ASUS took off the site...and is available in this thread). On the install select custom and DEselect the display driver before finishing the install. Then reboot and install the 11.12 drivers.

I have countless experiences of bad driver installs when you simply install new version over top the old versions. It NEVER works 100% properly.

If you are reffering to menu items "advanced" and "chipset" (which goes after the second "main" item) I`ve already tried these - no changes at all after flash. My theory is - these second menu items are for EFI mode.

What voltages are you running? and what temps are ok to hit.

If I oc my a8-3500m to 2.666 i hit 75C with no gpu overclock in BF3. and I am scared to go over 75C as I dont think the capacitors on the mobo could handle it. I think read somewhere processor can hit 90ish, but the other parts on the mobo are wat im worried about.

I'm using IC Diamond 7 thermal compound. and I'm not using a cooling pad; yet.

I hope you get 1080p working, I'll probly try in mine as well if you do.

Guys, there is AMI APTIO & BIOS flash tool bundle. In unpacked folders APTIOS\AFUWIN64 (APTIOS\AFUWIN32) you will find AFUWINGUI.EXE -cool tool which can not only flash BIOS from file image with various options but also can save BIOS to file.

As for hidden BIOS menu items - fresh MMTOOL v. 4.50.0.23 reports that BIOS has 3 so called EFI volumes and 1st and 3rd volumes contains so called files with names that correlates with advanced settings staff. I will dig EFI specs and infos and may be get lucky with either EFI shell commands or EFI mode installation of Windows...

Edit: MMTOOL report file is in attachment. Here is the doc about EFI firmware file system

I hope by some miracle it works....that would be the greatest news to default or force any game to use dedicated graphics. If it doesn't work, make sure you can go back to the way it was before ;) ...

running my P0 2.6GHz at 1.15v, only use this for my desktop work like web browsing and video editing. I take it down to 2.3 at 1.075 for gaming. Not using any sort of heat pad or anything. I made a crap load of cooling mods to my pc u can watch my video in my signature below to get an idea on how to drop temps.

Thanks guys for the update on the GPU, I tried using Afterburner in the past but I guess HTWingnut figured out the roadblock we had in the past. Anyone have setting they can post for their Afterburner program....?

It only did it once for me, afterwards these drivers have been 100% stable. But then again, I'm on an Acer 7560G.

Only issue I get is that I now see a thin black line that goes along half of the bottom of the screen in games that use Crossfire. But I don't mind and it's actually a pretty handy indicator that Crossfire works :p

I have a problem OCing the GPU on my k53ta.. It used to work before but now the GPU1 usage stays @ 0%. It used to stay @ 99% before I reinstalled 12.2 Catalyst. I disabled ULPS by using the registry and by disabling it on Sapphire Trix. I edited the msi afterburner config file. Is it the drivers problem or am I doing something wrong? When I do a fresh reinstall of the driver, the OC GPU1 650/1000 works and get 99% but after I reboot it again it stays @ 0%. In the GPU-Z it says that my GPU Default Clock is @ 100MHz Default memory clock is @ 150MHz.. Anyone know how to fix this problem?

Are you shure that these 12.2 catalyst drivers are mobile ones? I saw that picture after not-mobile 12.1a installation...

Are you using the 12.2 drivers? If so then you might have to try a lower version (12.1 or 11.12 which most users here found near perfect.)
I don't think our 6600m/6700 series gpu is compatible with the preview release of 12.2 drivers; it wasn't listed in their "AMD Mobility Product Family Compatibility table" in the link below. It states near the bottom of that support page : "The following notebooks are not compatible with this release:
    Switchable Graphics enabled notebooks."

Ah.. I didn't know the 12.2 was not compatible for the k53ta. :/ I reinstalled the previous drivers but my GPU1 usage is still @ 0%. I've tried the 11.12, 12.1 preview, and the 12.1. The Fan speed and everything else work but I can't seem to activate the GPU1 usage %.. :(

Do you use "AMD system monitor" to check GPU usage?
Did you try and click "Restore factory defaults..." in Catalist`s "Preferences" after re-installation?

It may be that you somehow corrupted the GPU`s performance counters.
And may be the clean installation is needed.

Ah.. I tried using the AMD system monitor and it says that my GPU 6600m/6700m is working when I'm in a game. It's weird that my MSI Afterburner still says that 0%. Thanks for the help. Very much appreciated. ^^

    You are welcome.
BTW, many owners of hybrid crossfire (aka dual graphics) rigs came to disabling crossfire since it causes microstuttering, frame dropping, screen tearing, etc... With single 6650 game`s FPS may be a little lower but gameplay is smoother

All of the sudden my K53TA has started BSOD-ing every few hours with this message:

Stop 0x00000101 "A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval"

Has anyone else experienced this on their K53TA? I can't think of any recent changes that would have caused something like that...

I hope you figure out a cure to the problem and I hope this isn't a problem that all of us are eventually going to get. I have no idea what that is, but tried googling it for you: Read the first 5 site about it.
    https://www.google.com/search?q=Sto...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
Some people stated updating bios made it go away, while others stopped overclocking the cpu. Some people with multicore machines seem to think one of the cores of the cpu was failing. But not sure if you can fix the problem if it's preventing you from making changes...maybe safe mode? if you can't solve the problem and if you are still under 1 year warranty, you might have to send it in.

So, i've been using the "generic" windows 7 drivers for audio. I didn't realize that it's been causing random periodic lockups with audio looping during playing cs source. I updated the drivers to the actual realtek drivers and the problem seems to have gone away. The problem now is that the audio quality is TERRIBLE in comparison to the "generic" drivers. In general volume is lower, all audio sounds muffled sort of "fish bowl" effect, my ears can FEEL the difference like they're straining (i know that sounds weird). I've checked the control panel and everything is defaulted. I cant fix this. Have any of you had problems with this?

I've always thought the audio from this laptop was very inferior to anything else I've used :( . And I always thought the problem was the speakers, but maybe the software and speakers combined are at fault for the lousy sound quality. The loudness or volume level can be helped a little with Asus Sonic Focus program settings turned up, but at the price of some distorted sound quality.

Usually I make use of the headphone jack instead of using the speakers, but without Asus sonic focus since the distortion is more noticeable. When at home, I always hook up external speakers thru the headphone jack & it sounds great. And headphones sound better than the speakers when I take it out on the road. So basically it's like a desktop needing external speakers to get great sound. ;) I don't own a recent AV systems from the past 5 years with HDMI audio hookups, but this laptop should be able to send 5.1 audio signal to an AV system via HDMI. I've successfully hooked up an old usb SPDIF audio dongle and it outputted 5.1 audio from movie software perfectly to my older AV system :). So this laptop has been an all purpose beast for me-htpc, gaming, internet, and work.

I did a good bit of research on this too. I will say that I had been doing some general maintenance on my machine in the past couple weeks: updating apps, eliminating startup items, unistalling junk, etc. I DO run the latest Catalyst drivers almost always (currently 12.2 preview) but that has never caused me any problems. Maybe I was a little quick to say I hadn't made any changes though. :)

Oddly enough though I will say that I *always* OC but haven't been turning on k10stat as much in the past week because of all the reboots I've been doing (I never set it up to turn on at login). Could all of the sudden NOT OC-ing be an (ironic) issue? I also thought that ganged/unganged settings in k10stat might have something to do with this because of the nature of the error but I don't know a lot about that setting. Any insights?

Are you aware that preview drivers are not mobile?

As for error 0x0000101 I found MS page. Deadlock of the processor core (as one possible culprit) can be achieved I don`t know how at the moment. I`ve never accounted that error...

Preview drivers usually supports all variations of GPU's. The WHQL release drivers you have to check the release notes because not all WHQL drivers update for all GPU types. 12.1 release doesn't support mobile, but preview drivers do, and do it well.

I mean that there are "WHQL drivers" and "mobile WHQL drivers". For example
    http://www2.ati.com/drivers/mobile/11-12_mobility_vista_win7_32_dd_ccc_ocl.exe
    and
    http://www2.ati.com/drivers/11-12_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_ocl.exe
    - at least bundles are different.

Preview drivers are always "generic drivers".
I have installed 12.1 preview drivers and crossfire has gone, but installation was OK.

PS I know how Windows lookups for a driver in the inf-file, so technically generic driver for HD6520 must provide base functionality on Fusion 6520, but extended functionality - I am doubt

Thanks for the info. I'm aware that all specific GPU configs are not explicitly supported in all releases but I've never had any problems and "crossfire" has never worked properly on this laptop anyway...

As far as the core lock-up goes, that's why I was previously referring to the ganged/unganged settings in k10stat. Any more insight on those settings?

Not sure really about ganged/unganged; the only discussion on it is in the k10stat guide:

; I've always just left it alone with clock control function disabled.

Remember this guys? I finally got it today. My max temps while Prime testing @2.3Ghz was 79.. now it was 77 after 30mins of testing! I'm idle at 44C and with this thing idle is now 43C.. so it DOES work but.. not that much! It doesn't worth it.

Ganged/unganged setting supposed to control independency of core`s P-state switching. It looks innocent.

Edit: Did you read my old post ? If idle state of the core might be the issue you find in hidden power management settings the "Processor idle disable" one.
    Also there is workaround:

You can disable the Advance Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) C-states by using a BIOS firmware option on the computer. If the firmware does not include this option, a software workaround is available. You can disable the ACPI C2-state and C3-state by setting a registry key. To do this, follow these steps:
At a command prompt, run the following command:
    reg add HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Processor /v Capabilities /t REG_DWORD /d 0x0007c044
    Restart the computer.
Note The computer idle power consumption will increase significantly if the deeper ACPI C-states (processor idle sleep states) are disabled. Windows Server 2008 R2 uses these deeper C-states on the Xeon 5500 series as a key energy saving feature.

Edit 2: You can try Driver Verifier

I have no problems plugging usb 2.0 WD elements drives 640gb and 1.5tb into usb 3.0 ports; All my drives work perfectly in all usb inputs; I also have one usb 3.0 2TB WD MyBook which runs like a champ on the usb 3.0; using bios 206. Maybe it has to do with the graphic driver or chipset driver installation since they are supposed to have usb drivers incorporated in them.

    Hey everyone,

I noticed that my core temps go above 80 C (usually steady at 81 C~82 C, max of 84 C) when playing skyrim. I have k10stat at 2000 mhz and 1.0125 V (P0) with boost off. No graphics OC.

I was wondering if there's any way to quickly / reliably drop my temps a bit. I tried decreasing the settings but I still get high temps... not too sure what direction to go. Should I set P0 lower? Should adding heat sinks / do the cooling mod?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Do you use crossfire mode? If iGPU is been used then its temp is been added to CPU one. If so you can try use only dGPU.

Skyrim runs very poorly without crossfire, so I'm hoping to keep it on. Thanks though!

I've installed 12.1 drivers, but some games stopped working and system started to behave strangely. Even driver installation was a bit messy. So I tried uninstalling them but everytime I go uninstall I BSOD. So next step is reinstalling win7 unless someone has some good advice

Why does the switchable graphics not keeping what I assigned my programs to? The "configure switchable graphics" pop-up comes up, then when I hit "configure" it sends me to the switchable graphics, then when I click on "not assigned" and make all my programs to "High Performance" and click "apply", it doesn't stay on ''High Performance". It goes back to "not assigned" every single time and I have no idea why its doing that. If any one can give me advice that would be much appreciated, Thank You.

Edit: Ok, so I re-installed the 12.1 drivers, by first using driver sweep, then going into safe mode and seeing if any files were left behind and there were five, so I deleted them. Then after all that, I re-installed 12.1 and after it rebooted, I right clicked on the home screen and there was no catalyst. So I tried the manual way by searching for it on the start menu. When I clicked on it, it said "Could not load file or assembly 'CLI.Implementation' or one its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified." I'ma try to re-install it again and see what happens. This has happened before, but I forgot what I did to fix, but nonetheless hopefully it works.

Edit: Never mind I got it to work. What I did was repair my .NET framework 4 and installed .NET framework 4.5, then uninstalled CCC with ATI Install manager, rebooted to safe mode and then used driver sweeper and ccleaner registry cleaner, rebooted reinstalled the 12.1 and everything works ;).

Reinstalled windows and installed 12.1 again. Followed gpu overclocking instructions and works fine. One thing I noticed in Afterburner is when I check Apply these clocks when system starts they never save, I hit apply and they just reset.

Anyone else have issues with CPU-Z not reporting dual channel mode correctly?

I've had 2x4GB Corsair memory installed since about a week after I got the laptop but channel section in CPU-Z has always just been greyed out. Is this just a limitation of CPU-Z or is something wrong?

I got the same thing than you. I have 2x4Gb Patriot 1333Mhz installed and it doesn't show up in CPUZ.

For those interested, Crossfire mode is working for WoW. Running 60fps at ultra and sometimes more.

Thanks for the info. I'm assuming its just an issue with CPUZ reading info from the chipset and this is closer to confirming that...
