On the verge of selling my K53TA in favor of something with a better screen (yet again) but I'm always discouraged by how much more I'm going to have to spend to get the same tier of dedicated gpu. Price/performance ratio on this little machine is just too dang good, even months later!

Can ANYONE confirm at this point that we're still unable to swap out and upgrade the panel to a higher resolution? Hell, I'd settle for 1600x900 at this point, but a FHD screen would make me absolutely gleeful.

Thought I read several pages back that link626(?) tried and fried his system?

no. someone else fried his screen.

i read that you would have to give up the webcam to put in anything greater than 1366x.
and even then, I wouldn't know the success of that.

I OC'd the gpu to 700/1000 and noticed some artifacting. Not sure its worth the addition 5 fps or so and possibly burning up my gpu ram. Any thoughts

I haven't been overly impressed with the results of OC'ing the GPU on this unit, certainly nowhere near the performance increase that OC'ing the CPU delivers. As you said, the 5 bonus FPS just didn't seem worth the effort to me. To each their own though, some folks have had some good results.

It's considered 1 year old tech, so this laptop is bound to become outdated any time in the next 1 1/2 years.
Bt you might consider keeping it and connecting it to an external 1440x900 monitor or better with external keyboard & mouse (when at home) and just put up with its deficiencies when you're on the road. If this isn't convenient then sell it and go for a Trinity laptop in the next 3 months with a better screen when a good deal comes by. By selling it, atleast you won't be stuck with a laptop that begins to feel a little outdated for the first time. Or just save your money and live with this laptop..atleast it's still great right now today and hold its own against the newer tech for a while longer!
For some games, every extra frame is a welcome improvement. But if temps are soaring high because of the overclock then it's better to keep things at default or a small overclock (eg. 660/950 or 640/960 ) just to get 2-5 extra FPS; I wouldn't overclock at 700/1000 all the time unless you have decent cooling mods. You can also overclock the cpu at 2ghz max so there won't be any throttling and high temps.

128bit with ddr3.... yeah, OC is pretty useless.

since i'm no graphics hoe, I prefer to lower graphics settings and run stock. If it looks better than xbox, it's good enough for me.

do you guys oc the core and memory one at a time to find the limits ?
that ddr3 can be a bottleneck

    +1 for u link
    i agree with you
maximum i taken it to 750/1060
but doesn't really increases fr so running on stock 600/900
but i reduces voltage of north bridge po n p1 state to 0.9v and 0.8 v through fusion tweaker
it helps me to reduce temp little..........

Damn.. I've just take a look on our big brother ASUS - Notebooks- ASUS K53TK and even this next gen laptop came with the ty resolution we already have.. even the next gen graphic card AMD Radeon HD 7670M - Notebookcheck.net Tech is the freakin same as we already have. Maybe the dual gpu will be better but not that much..

Link626, i need bit of info from you. I am trying to use PScheck for cpu overclocking. I saw few options in pscheck(settings) to disable CPB, core C6, PKG C6. I want to disable turbo, so which options should i select to disable turbo. I know about the bios mode to disable CPB and C6. but i don't want to use bios mod. so tell me how to disable cpb and c6 using pscheck.

And i was checking cpu with hwinfo64 and noticed that cpb is supported by CPU but it was disabled, in bios CPB is set to AUTO. hwinfo64 is showing cpb in RED color, means its disabled, then how come cpu is using turbo. If CPB is supported by CPU then which software or function is making it disabled. is it AMD Power now Function(Cool n Quite), that is disabling it to keep the temps low.

    hwinfo64 is wrong about cpb.
you can see it working by running something singlethreaded.

if you need help with pscheck, you can read about it in the help menu. It's very detailed. AMD wrote a whole book.

I don't see the point to disable cpb, but if you want it, you just check the cpbdis box

you can upgrade to 500w if you want.

the laptop will only use what it needs.

as long as the plug fits the socket, it should be ok. You'll have to determine if the socket fits

look under the case for screws with a keyboard beside it.. there's like 2-3 of them.. and around the keyboard there's some pins that need to be moved with a little flat screwdriver. After that you'll have to flip the keyboard toward you gently.

Its really easy. There are only 2 screws you have to deal with.
One is almost in the middle of the notebook's back (there is a keyboard sign next to the screw) the other one is under the RAM cover. So firstly you have to take off the RAM cover (middle of the notebook) then you will see the screw (keyboard sign again next to it).
After that you just have to push the top of the notebook's keyboard at 3 places (3 clips). Be careful there is a connection beetween the laptop and the keyboard so just be careful :D

As for upgrading the screen... I was told that the screen from the G (I think G) series works just fine... They can be had on ebay for around 200.

As for the circles on #1 and #6, I have no clue... I am interested in that too.

As for the CPU... is it confirmed that the A8 drops right in?

    x2!

I tried to find some informations on google about the differences between our a6-3400m and a8-3500m (+variants) and the only thing I don't understand is the highest TDP on the a8.. like.. is it going to be A LOT more warmer? 10w difference between those 2 is not that much. zeusakatkm can you tell us what is your temp range under load? and can you (I'm pretty sure you can but..) overclock that beast?

Maybe it's gonna be my next project on this laptop :)

    likely won't help with performance.

AMD system monitor shows the same behavior whether you are in fixed mode or in high performance dynamic mode. igp is never fully shut off. It has intermittent activity of 1-5%

Junction point is 100C so your ok BUT it's a bit high. I was playing bf3 on high detail at about 83C.. now I'm playing WoW ultra settings 2.2ghz boost @2.5ghz at 63C. If I was you, I'll start by repasting your cpu/gpu. It helps me a lot. My paste was kind of dry!

Diablo 3 Tweak Guide! - Eliminating stutter!!!
(this would also work for any other game for improved performance)

If you're like me, you can't enjoy a game without having both the graphics and performance. Unfortunately this rig isn't cutting it with the stock settings. Here's a quick guide to running Diablo 3 at higher framerates and completely eliminating both major and minor stuttering that's been complained about by the general public. I'm now getting a consistent 60 FPS, and NO MORE stuttering, this is a quantum leap compared to the original settings. Here's how to boost the games performance.

Assuming you've already overclocked your A6 to something stable, I'm at 2.0GHz for gaming...

STEP 1 - Eliminating Major Stutter
Diablo 3 constantly reads files from the HDD and creates a stutter effect in the game, to eliminate this we use separate Solid State Drive to access these files for quicker transfer rates.

I'm using a Class 10 SD Card - 16GB, picked up from MicroCenter for $12.

    1) You will need (minimum) 16GB USB flash drive (or 16GB SD card). An 8GB flash drive will not work because it will translate to 7.45GB under windows, which is smaller than needed (7.7GB). PLEASE NOTE: You should change the USB/SD priorities under the Device Manager to High Performance as this will give you the best transfer rates.
    2) Copy the entire "MPQs" folder (7.7GB) from:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Diablo III\Data_D3\PC\MPQs"
to your USB/SD drive. For me, it was "D:\" drive, so the final result was "D:\MPQs". It might be a different drive name for you, so just use what you get.
    3) Rename the original "MPQs" ( located on your HDD) to anything you want.
    4) Download a free program called " Link Shell Extension" from download.cnet website. Download the 64bit version. After you install it, restart your computer.
    5) Browse to the folder your created in step 3, for me it was "D:\MPQs", and righ-click on the "MPQs" folder, and select >"Pick Link Source".
    6) Go to the original folder location on your hard drive:
    "C:\Program Files\Diablo III\Data_D3\PC"

right-click anywhere inside the "PC" folder and select > Drop As ..> Symbolic Link.

    Thats it! your done!

STEP 2 - Eliminating Minor Stutter

    1.) Download RadeonPro
    2.) Setup a Profile for Diablo III.exe
3.) Advanced Change Flip Queue to 0
    4.) Force Aggressive API
    5.) Disable Aero
    6.) Force Process High Priority
7.) In Game Settings - Turn Off Max Foreground and Background FPS
8.) In Game Settings - Turn On Vertical Sync

PLEASE NOTE: Had issues running RadeonPro before running D3.exe, and have since loaded RadeonPro after game has loaded, as this also does the job.

    STEP 3 - ReadyBoost
For those of you not using ReadyBoost via USB or SD it might help a bit more as the cache is not sent to a SSD and should make for quicker reading and writing.

Please let me know if this helps, as it made a huge difference for me, as I was on the verge of quitting due to the terrible stuttering effects and low framerates as you progressed through the game and got more resource hungry.

asusk53, you are right , both my cpu and gpu has stock paste. i was thinking to repaste it but the problem here is , there is no artic MX4 in india, only artic silver 5 or Nactua HT. About using Artic silver 5, i am afraid about the damage that it will cause if it touches the board. btw what paste are you using.

This is a tad off topic, but I just bought a USB joystick, and my computer can not seem to detect it. I plug it in and nothing, no beeps or sounds of any kind, and no driver installing. I try installing the driver from the manufacturer website and still nothing. The light on the joystick comes on, my computer just wont see it. Any ideas?

So.... I'm going to get a 256gb Crucial M4..or a Sammy 830... Sammy is $50 more. Just missed all the SlickDeals on both of these!

not sure yet if I want to do:
    SSD + HDD
    SSD + SSD
    SSD + BD

My question is: can I do SSD + the Momentus XT hybrid and see a speed gain for that hybrid vs a regular HDD?

For those of you looking at one of the A8-35** MX processors, you WILL need a new power adapter.

I'm using an ocz agility3 120gb ssd and a momentus xt 500gb hybrid on my k53ta. the ssd hybrid is pretty amazing. When i changed my hybrid to a ssd, i could barely tell the difference. i recommend ssd+hybrid if you want fast performance and more storage.

    awesome, thank you!

otherwise, i just found this if the ssd + hdd combo was a better option vs ssd + hybrid -- Western Digital Scorpio Black WD7500BPKT 750GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5 Inch SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive $89.99 - Slickdeals.net

wow, the hybrid is 7200 itself anyway. nice.

I'm using Arctic Silver 5 its one of the best. If you paste it correctly it's not supposed to touch the motherboard. You need a thin layer of paste too. look on youtube theirs a million way to paste a cpu.

good luck, have fun and TAKE YOUR TIME!
