everytime I run afterburner I get BSOD have input 640/960 and the instant I apply it crashes. Whats going on? First time trying to OC the GPU
-
i misread your post.
of course you can upgrade this to a8 -
I discovered something interesting about Fixed mode today.
Did some trial and error.
I was getting tired of broken and stuck idle clocks in fixed mode ever since catalyst 12.4, and stuck 3d clock in cat 12.3, and the freezes in 12.2 and 12.1.
So I mixed the graphics driver from 12.2 with CCC from 12.4.
With the mix above, I now have a pretty slick and manageable fixed mode setup that mostly works-
1. You can OC cpu and reboot without freezing.
2. You can switch back and forth between dynamic and fixed mode a lot of times without freezing.
3. Fixed mode dgpu has 100% working dynamic clocks after rebooting in fixed mode. It's so smooth in 2d mode.
yep, I don't have freezes anymore, and simply rebooting fixed mode will unstick the clocks.
Problems I used to have in relation to the above items-
1. With 12.3 catalyst, OC cpu with turbo enabled would cause freeze and crash on reboot/shutdown.
2. 12.1 and 12.2 driver + 12.1/12.2 CCC would cause black screen hang on reboot after switching between dynamic and fixed mode. You also couldn't switch back and forth more than a few times before it would freeze while switching.
3. with the 12.2+12.4 mix, fixed mode will stick at 3d clock 600/900 unless you reboot once while in fixed mode. After windows starts again, the dgpu will be completely working with no more sticky clocks.
If you don't reboot, clock will be stuck at 600/900 and windows and scroll bars will shake when dragging them.
For some reason, with cats 12.3-12.6, running at 600/900 sticky clock makes Windows very laggy in 2d mode.
I wish I could mix 12.1 graphics driver with 12.4 CCC, but 12.4 CCC doesn't detect 12.1 graphics driver.
Since rebooting 12.2+12.4 mix fixed the sticky clock, I thought rebooting in 12.4 (full install) in fixed mode might unstick the clock. Unfortunately, it doesn't work. 12.4 onward are stuck for good, unless you manually trigger 3d mode with gpu acceleration like youtube flash videos. Even then, it gets stuck at 600/900 afterwards, and makes 2d mode laggy. -

I updated this info into the notes of the WIKI in SDforum. Also I copied the WIKI into a post in the owners lounge here on notebookreviews in case it gets deleted at SD!>> ASUS K53TA WIKI with GPU information!!
The wiki includes all the pertinent information, logs, & notes about all of our discoveries for all the graphic drivers in relation to our laptop. I Tried cleaning it up best I could. -
Guys, i upgraded my RAM from 2GB to 4gb by adding 2gb corsair ram. But now i am getting 3GPU'S in GPU-Z instead of 4 GPU's if crossfire mode in on. Before that with 2gb samsung ram i was getting 4 gpus. But performance in 4gb ram mode has increased in heaven 3.0. How can i get my 4gpu's back.
-
so we did get stuck with 12.4 as our last driver
Most likely your gpu is messed up. My last gpu had a few slightly noticeable issues when i got this pc. A small overclock like that shouldn't do that and when I put my core at 690 it would be fine before i did anything but when I did a gpu stress test I would see absolutely 0 artifacts and then it would just give me a BSOD. So i went lower at a safe area. (a speed i never had issues with before)
Then after about a week the gpu started having more issues. I started up Battlefield 3 and it was going just fine and then all the sudden i had an EXPLOSION of artifacts and then i had to close out of the game. I kept my gpu at stock speeds then it was throttling a ton in games and then it was showing artifacts on my screen every time i loaded a game untill it eventually crashed everything i opened when using my 6650M. I would also get a BSOD while using crossfire on BF3 with any driver or with a reinstall on my pc (when i first got the pc till the gpu actually basically died) but after I got a new card that isn't defective, EVERYTHING works but I don't feel like overclocking just in case there is a chance it won't accept it. -

2- install msi afterburner
3- do the Disable ULPS trick in the registry, reboot
4- open afterburner then oc (i use 700/1000 w/o problem)
-
I have done the driver sweeper method, started clean a number of times with the mobility driver and still the same issue, some file is nonexecutable some dll file
Where are you downloading the 12.1 Mobility Driver? And I'm assuming you don't install the 12.1 Catalyst over it.... right? -
ULPS GUI Config Utility (enable/disable) for ULPS registry trick.
You DON'T have to install trixx AND afterburner.. just install MSI Afterburner and you'll be fine. Don't forget to change the thing in afterburner.cfg to be allowed to OC the gpu.
I have 12.1 mobility driver and 12.4 chipset driver. Everything's working fine for me. -
I just install the asus chipset driver then i install the newer driver right over it and it seems to work all the same. The last time i had issues installing a driver was before my gpu gave out but it still let me install it after the 2nd or 3rd time. I do however restart after every driver install. -

Is anyone using a notebook cooler for the k53ta?
If yes, which one? Is it useful at all?
Some celsius would be nice.
ThX! -

I am new to overclocking so guys any help would be appreciated. -
just open ram cover u will have big hole
-
Below 80 so that cannot be the problem. -
that's a bug with k10stat. If you keep changing the speeds, and hitting apply over and over, it seems to cut the speed. This happened to me a few times.
I use amd's own PSCheck to overclock.
pschk341.zip

Happening around 70 too. I will try pscheck.

Ok. So I might have missed a post or two in the 333 pages but I am curious if anyone can give the proper steps to uninstalled any HDMI related drivers and then reinstalling them.
Cable has been double checked and so has the tv with another Asus laptop HDMI.
The Sound option shows the HDMI greyed out, not connected.
Didn't see anything in the advanced power management options.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. -
Amazon seems to have a similar offering to the k53ta for $400 if anyone is looking
Asus A53Z-AS61 Laptop
Specs:
AMD A6-3420 1.4GHz Quad Core CPU
4GB DDR3
750GB Hard Drive
15.6" (1366 x 768) LED LCD w/ Webcam
Radeon HD 6520
HDMI & USB 3.0
DVDRW
WiFi N
6 Cell Battery
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Amazon.com: ASUS A53Z-AS61 15.6-Inch Laptop (Mocha): Computers & Accessories
I bought my refurbished k53ta for $420 from newegg -
in that case, you can uninstall just the hdmi driver, and reinstall an older hdmi driver by using the custom install option when installing catalyst.
-
An important difference of that model is its lack of discrete 6650M gpu which most of us here are constantly tweaking for playing PC games at the best possible frame rate & quality. The above model is fine if gaming is not a priority at all. It can still game solidly at low settings with its 6520g apu but using it for other purposes would suit it better. Also $400 would be better spent on Trinity & Intel 3rd gen notebooks in the coming months. -

Hello!
I received an A8-3500m and got it installed, now my laptop wont boot.
Any ideas? I am running the latest bios -
I really hate video card classification numbers in laptops -

video and files u need in discribtion url -
then make a shortcut and put in startup folder, with the following option triggers. your own pcx filename of course.
"C:\Program Files (x86)\AMD\PSCheck\PSCheck.exe" -load d:\2000oc.pcx -run 1000 -quit -

Correct me but I read somewhere, that the A8 isnt working so well in this laptop. Cannot overclock it above 1.6ghz or something.

these guys did it.
I'm assuming you put back your A6 and it worked, so I won't doubt your installation skillz -
It also wouldn't boot after I put in a new wifi card with bluetooth
-
I did put the A6 back in and it works just peachy, I appreciate that -
i hope you didn't put in the wifi card at the same time as the A8, cuz it would be the wifi card's fault then.
what brand wifi card did you buy? intel doesn't work. -
It was certainly an intel, I had at first put the wifi in with the A8. But when it wouldn't boot, I put everything back to how it was, tried to boot it, worked just fine. Then I put the processor in, and no luck.
-
So I noticed over the last week I have been having FPS drops and i couldn't fix them no matter what i did. (using Catalyst 12.4) but a few days ago i reinstalled 12.4 and same thing until now.
Did a fresh new install of 12.1
no more spikes.
Conclusion:
12.4 does in fact suck -

Installed 12.1 Catalyst Chipset driver from Asus website
Then installed just the 12.1 Mobility Driver, not the whole Catalyst Package
Adjusted the cnf Afterburner file
disabled ulps
rebooted and now gonna try out some diablo 3 and see if I get improvements on my framerate
thanks again bro -
i want order hdd caddy ,
which one i should order?
12.7 or 9.7 ple help...... -
