klarghmon, how you saved the 214 BIOS. you just edited the settings to enabled and saved it by hitting "save" button or "save as" button.

The Save button (the one that looks like a floppy disc). Then when I close AMIBCP, it asks me if I want to save the bios file (which seemed strange to me).

yeah it does ask even after you have saved the file once. Try to save the file with "save as" button then rename the saved file to "K43TA.214" same name as the original 214 bios. and then flash it and tell me that it does effect the system or not.

"Save as" did it for me. The SATA6 didn't stick though, but I figured out that two settings had to be changed in the BIOS for SATA6 to be enabled. Not only does one have to set SATA6 AHCI support as Enabled, one also has to disable SATA MAXGEN2 CAP OPTION.

so... with any of the prev. custom bios downloads...

which one has the 6gbps mod & everything else default? i;'m on the 6gbps & 1gb IGP one right now, but would rather go back to just the SATA III 6gbps by itself since the IGP mod doesn't do anything worthwhile.

Both have SATA III 6 on. The only difference between the two bios in the folder is one has 1GB IGP and the other is Auto.

Thing is that both bios has PSPP on performance instead of power-saving. I'm not entirely sure on the difference in battery consumption between the two. They both also have fixed mode available.

If you want just SATA III 6gbps (no fixed mode, pspp on default power-saving, IGP on auto size) you can eiter use AMIBCP and alter just SATA6 AHCI support and SATA MAXGEN2 CAP OPTION to the correct values as mentioned before or let me know and I can make a bios file for you.

If you don't mind about fixed mode being available and PSPP on performance, then use the one that doesn't say 1GB in the filename.

klarghmon, make sure when you are updating or flashing BIOS you are connected with UPS so you remain at AC power even if the main power goes down. If you are not connected with UPS while flashing BIOS and power goes down then you wont be able to run windows until you recover the BIOS. And about K53TA BIOS recovery , i haven't found any article about it over internet.

Hi everyone, I want to show you a problem that happened to me:
    I bought a ASUS K32TA BBR6 Quad core 2.3Ghz 4g ram with AMD Radeon 6720G2 (6650M 1GB DDR3 and 6520).
I installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits and then Ubuntu 12.4. After that, I started to install the drivers for windows 7( I downloaded from ASUSTeK, choosing the exact model) when I install the AMD chipset driver and reboot, a "crash dump" appear(a blue screen that say "crash dump"). I cannot remember exactly what it said because few seconds then the computer automatically reboot. Then I downloaded the latest drivers from AMD and installed it, same crush. Finally I downloaded an older driver from ASUSTeK (Versión V8.861.0.0000 -- 2011.06.28 ). Now the computer is usable but when I start Crysis 2 appear other crush dump :"IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". And when I choose "Video settings (high-performance graphics)" from AMD VISION Engine Control Center appear another crush dump: "MEMORY_MANAGEMENT".
I've read the forum and my BIOS version is 203(that shows CPU-Z)
Can anyone help me?? I'll eternaly grateful!!

Alright well beside all of this BIOS jargon, I got my HDD optical bay today! Thought it was going to arrive after the second SSD, but it's here before the SSD yay!

Anyway, I stuck the OEM Seagate 500gb in it & it says 3gbps but it's labeled a generation 2 device, so I'm going to put the M4 SSD I already have in it & see what numbers it gives.. Hopefully it'll boot up that way...

    EDIT: WE HAVE BOOT! (obviously)

going to run the numbers now & will post a screeny!

Our card reader supports SDXC right? Going to get an SDXC card but would like to know ahead of time if I need to get a USB card reader too.

Also, do you think our internal card reader is faster than an external USB 3.0 reader?

Personally I swapped the HDD for an SSD and relocated the HDD to the optical bay. But apparently the optical bay is also SATA III speeds, so either one would give the same performance supposedly.

Just have to use the modded bios to get the full SATA III speeds. I saw higher speeds in the optical bay but had only one ran the one 1000 speed test 1 time vs running each 5 times like I did when I first popped the SSD into the main bay.

So with the modded bios ~ 460mbps read / 240mbps write average

the HDD in optical gave me ~ 50 read / 30 write (or more or less)

I have waaay to many games & a giant gaming backlog, so two SSDs are a must for me vs SSD + HDD. Plus I still need room for Adobe & the likes.

The best part is if I upgrade my laptop in the next 2 years, I'm hoping these SSDs will still be up to par LOL & I'll just pop them in w/e comes next.

Yeah...... I'd rather not toy around with a BIOS file myself.. the last thing I need is to screw up & not be able to boot!

I'd really appreciate it if you could make a 214 SATA III 6gbps with fixed mode please.

I don't understand what fixed mode or PSPP mean anyway =S

EDIT: did some googling since the search function on here hasn't been working (didn't try it today, though...)

So fixed mode is for the OpenGL games.....I'm not sure which games those are, but maybe fixed mode is something I should hold onto... gonna check into PSPP next..

    BTW, here's the caddy I ordered: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004XIU4T2/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00

it obviously works great! I took the faceplate off of the optical drive & stuck it on this thing hehehe. The caddy comes with it's faceplate off, so I stuck that faceplate onto the optical drive so I can still use it if I need to install or burn discs.

FINAL EDIT: ok, so through my research......

    SATA III 6bps is amazing
    Fixed mode is good
    PSPP is pointless
    1GP force is pointless

So basically the ideal bios is: 214 Fixed Mode with SATA III running at 6gbps

Here's the Bios 214 modded with SATA III 6gbps and Fixed mode.
Download K43TA214.SATA6.PXfixed.zip from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way

Downloaded and tested it on my own K53TA-BBR6 myself to double check that it works. Though, as with anything bios related, a cautious YMMV applies. :p

List of OpenGL programs - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia for the list of OpenGL games or applications.

And just in case you missed it, http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/601808-k53ta-best-deal-ever-could-271.html#post8386767 has the summary of fixed mode switchable graphics and any bugs related to it (such as system hang when shutting down / restarting with 12.1 drivers after switching or the power saving gpu bug).

    Hello Guys!

I have a little a problem. Today my K53TA-SX149D freezed two times. The first is at 6 o'clok, the second is at 9 o'clock. The screen freezed, and the hifi made a weird sound. Anyone knows what can be the problem? I buyed the laptop in january. I don't use overclock, so i don't know what is that.

Just picked up a Crucial 128GB m4 SSD, going to give it a try here today.

Do I need to mod the bios in anyway, planning on just replacing this with the old HDD and using my recovery discs I made when I bought the computer for a fresh new install.

    Any recommendations ?

If you want to achieve SATA III 6gb/s speeds then you will need to enable it in the BIOS, or use one of the premodded ones. Otherwise it'll limit you to 3gb/s speeds.

Once you go SSD, you'll never look back

I haven't looked at 214 at all, so I do not know if the setting exists in 214 as it does in 212. But just edit the shortcut for winflash and add /nodate after the target and then you should be able to downgrade the bios

bad news 214 is disabled for SATA 6 AHCI Support
    SATA MAXGEN2 CAP OPTION Enabled

Is it really worth going to the SATA 6? I saw one person post results that looked great but what is the consensus ?

    which bios should I use?

    - K43TA.SATA6.PXfixed.212
    - K43TA.SATA6.6520G_1GB.PXfixed.212

so I just run winflash with one of the above files and put /nodate after the shortcut...?

    as in: K43TA.SATA6.6520G_1GB.PXfixed.212/nodate

Use the first one, which has the option to use fixed mode should you ever run OpenGL, and the SATA6 turned on, which will double your SSD speeds!

Create a shortcut for winflash, right click on it, and go to properties. At the end of the target path add /nodate -- as in
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\WinFlash\WinFlash.exe" /nodate

Hope this helps, I believe someone said that you do not need to use this argument in order to flash, but I did anyways?

    Guys.... look at this... it's only $380 & it's new.. same specs except a 3420m 1.5ghz vs our 3400m 1.4ghz!

    Newegg.com - ASUS A53Z-ES61 Notebook AMD A-Series A6-3420M(1.5GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory DDR3 500GB HDD 5400rpm DVD±R/RW AMD Radeon HD 6520G

Here's the SD model on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-A53Z-E...B00713DPNI

I can't find any difference except that it has a better processor....

EDIT: NEVERMIND... looks like it might not have a dedicated card....
