Yes, but the problem with that is that I can not set games to high performance mode and they run slow because of that. Have you managed to find a solution to that?

EDIT: nvm. Just read that you have no solution. I'm happy others have the issue as well anyway.

I'm confused, how can you set the game to high performance from switchable graphics if it crashes when you try to open it?

Whut! How is that possible? That boots frkin fast! you don't even see the circle turn!
On my laptop i can see the circle turn 2 times or something.....
    This are my specs:

    K53TA
    Windows 8 PRO 64BIT clean install .
    Samsung 830 128GB SSD
    8GB RAM
    A8-3510MX (Build in myself)
    BIOS 214 MODED

You should say it will boot with same time or even faster because of my processor! :S

yours boot slower than mine ?
yea your processor is better than mine , why is it slower ?

do you have any tutorial or photo to share how do you change the processor?
it's 100% compatible ? or need to some mod in bios?
how does the performance boost?

Hey guys, I've had this laptop for about 7 months now. I got it because I read here that it is a gaming beast, but I haven't really had the same results as most of you. I could only overclock it to 2.1 GHz cause I think I got a bad processor. Idle temps are at 52C and when I play Borderlands temps go up to the low 80's. If I overclock any further, the temps spike. Do you guys know how I can cool it down? Also, if you guys know of a guide that shows how to disassemble this thing, it would be great if you could pass me the link :) Usually I wouldn't be afraid to just take it apart on my own, but I'm currently at school and this is my only computer. I would like to clean out the fan, reapply thermal paste and maybe do some cooling mods.

What do your temps look like at idle and load? I'm curious to see if mine is just an inferior unit.

    tl;dr
My laptop has high temps, 52C at idle and 82C under load. How can I cool it down? Also, how do I disassemble the laptop to clean the fan. A guide would be great! :)

    Thanks guys for you help!

alright guys i found something and i thought id share it. and yes, that is a doubling in bus speed to the 6650m.
    comparrison of bios mod.png
    amibcp_pciebus_speedfix.PNG
as you can see it has increased the speed of the pcie bus. and yes, that is a doubling in bus speed to the 6650m
i have no more color grain whatso-ever and things seem to legitimately have all around less latency when using my laptop on my 1080p monitor.
i hope someone out there can do a consolidated bios mod with this in it. i would do it but meh is why.
k thats all have a nice k53ta filled day.
EDIT: as for changes to your custom bios; all you need to do is change power saving to performance. based on the research iv'e done it even seems that some jap models similar have this from the get go. so im speechless.
    k thats all.

    here, take a free link.
    http://www.4shared.com/file/4klIMvAS/K43TA.html

    TO AVOID THE DREADED DOUBLEPOST;
Also, im thinking of doing a gpu fan mod pretty soon. gonna solder the fan pin connectors to the power points and the smart D line to the respective connection pad(s) on the video card, so i can control the fan.
anyone know where those connections are on the discrete gpu cards? when i open it up ill find it eventually, but its nice to know where to look i suppose. anyone have any experience doing this on discrete cards before? once im done with all this I will put togather a ghetto-rigged datasheet for the laptops main board, or at the very least, post where i found the pins.

Yeah mine boot slower indeed :(
I don't have a tutorial, i just found a PDF file on the internet where they showed how
to disassemble it. That's what i used, but it was kinda hard because my laptop was a little
different from the one they used :p

It's 100% compatible and no need for modded bios, altough i use the modded 214 for the SATA III speed.
Also when you doin it you can put new thermal paste on it that also cools the system down a little! It never goes
over 80 degrees while gaming even when the CPU is @ 2,5 Ghz at that moment.

Performance boost is also great, you can notice it in games because they are running at 2,5ghz and the
    videocard will become a hd6740G2 insted of a hd6720G2 so that's also cool :p

Read the first post in this thread, it has a link to an overclocking guide.

Far Cry 3 works fine on this laptop. only the PostFX setting I had to set to low, everything else works fine on high (dx 9 mode).
Direct x 11 probably works too, but for some reason I have to start the game from the beginning if I change that setting.

    Hi everyone.

I have posted here before about 100 pages ago :D

I've got 2 question (or might be even more)

I was asking before about if diablo 3 would be running on this laptop and yes it does. Runs great but I feel it can do better or to be correct I know that it can do better. Usually when I launch the game my FPS is about 33 (this is the maximum, if higher it jumps constantly). But other time when I launch the game FPS shows 50 and game runs smoothly and perfectly. Can anyone explain how to achieve that fps for constant playing? I have tried installing latest drivers but didn't help much. In fact now after I hide the game the screen moves a bit and I can see it (mby solving this as well?)

The second question is about plastic panel. I have ordered this laptop from ebay and it was delivered to me from USA (i currently live in Scotland). Well the problem that happened is that on a left side panel just opened. What was explained to me is that inside bit where screw is cracked. Any idea where can I get new panel? The guy in repair shop said he can't order it because of a foreign model but maybe you can help me here? I'm using duct tape to hold it a bit but it doesn't help much as there is some metal bit is pulling panel.

    Help please

Thank you but I have no problem overclocking, sorry I wasn't more clear. What I am asking is if there is a way to change the stock processer speed that windows shows to my OC value. Am am OC'd at 2.6ghz.

Just like to add my results to this thread. The overclocks for my CPU are maximized and I can't go one step higher on anything without instability. System has been running with these settings without any instability for about half a year or so. Note the 600mhz @ 0.625v idle state, with this applied the CPU temp idles below 35'c in my (cold) bedroom.

I use Fusiontweaker to apply overclocking settings instead of K10Stat, because I found K10Stat causes the CPU to lose it's overclocked settings from switching power states (ie: when plugging/unplugging AC adapter, suspend). Fusiontweaker doesn't really offer the same amount of frequency adjustment (no 0.66x multipliers, only 1x), but everything else seems to be better.

The CPU starts throttling cores at 85'c, and 2.2ghz 1.0250v is as high as I can go before heat becomes a problem in certain situations. It needs 1.0625v to be fully stable at 2.3ghz and throttling occurs at that temp combined with high CPU and GPU loads so it's kind of pointless for me to go above 2.2ghz. I suppose you could manage 2.4ghz without throttling if you weren't using anything that needed the GPU at the same time, but as soon as you trigger the GPU you will throttle fast unless you have modified cooling.

For GPU overclock it's highest stable for me is 670/975mhz, 675mhz core or 980mhz mem introduces instability. I run it stock most of the time unless I'm actually playing a game that's bottlenecked by the GPU, I don't disable ULPS and instead just load up something that uses the GPU (I use MSI Kombuster), open MSI Afterburner and apply the settings, then close both programs. You can apply GPU overclock with ULPS enabled as long as the 6650M is active/in use beforehand otherwise it won't work. Settings applied this way will only stay until next reboot, but atleast you don't have to give up ~2hrs of your battery life for everything else because you've disabled the HD 6650M's ability to shut off by disabling ULPS.

Can anyone explain to me what is happening?

I'm trying to install new video drivers but after installing them I can't open "configure switchable graphics" option. I've unistalled all drivers through chipset, installed them again, then I'm istalling 12-10_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql_net4 drivers and I can't open it anymore although I can after just installing chipset... Also I can't launch catalyst_mobility_64-bit_util as it crashes when I start downloading drivers.

    Any idea?

    the killer 1202,

It is not a big glitch really. When you do restart, windows completely shut down but you will need to manual turn off using the power button. (like back into the windows 98 days :), but the glitch make restart useless)

Hey I'm looking for some advice on SSD's.

I am about to invest in one a pretty large capacity. I believe I have narrowed it down to the OCZ Vertex 4, the Samsung 840 Pro, and the Crucial M4. Does anyone here have any experience with any of these? I'm looking for the highest read/write speeds I can find.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

So, I've just bought the N53TA, which I believe to be K53TA's 3rd world country brother - same processor and GPU, 500 GB HD and 6 Gb RAM - and I'd like to ask a for a few pointers..:
What drivers do I need? I've downloaded what I believe to be the correct drivers for the chipset and GPU, but since I've previously had driver-related issues (games were under-performing massively until I updated the driver) I'd rather be on the safe-side here. Is the AMD Catalyst auto search/install feature reliable?
Do you have any tips for increasing performance, other than over-clocking (don't intend to do this until January)?

    Brilliant!

    Hello Zeus,

Why are you looking to get a large SSD? Also what do you consider large? I have used the OCZ and Crucial M4 and both are great, just make sure that you have SATA III enabled on your machine. But remember that if you are looking for a HUGE SSD (512GB or larger) that our laptops give you the option of installing a HDD bay in the dvd drive bay.

I have found out that these computers really respond well to an SSD and overclocking. You can always get more RAM for your system if you do not want to void anything and replace the HDD with an SSD. The overall AMD catalyst drivers are really horrible, from what I have found you usually end up reinstalling the drivers if you run Windows a lot.

The other thing this laptop responds really well to is Linux installs. Granted, by installing Linux you are really taking the gaming capabilities away other than the little games there are out there for Linux. But I dual boot Ubuntu Linux with Windows 7 for a gaming partition.

But I am sure you have noticed reading in these threads, the biggest thing people do with the k53 series is they do a cooling mod of some sort and they overclock the laptop to run at 3GHZ.

I've had quite a bit of success just using AMD Overdrive built into the Catalyst Control Center to OC my CPU. Until recently. Now, even after a completely clean driver install, it does weird things during the auto-tune process. It appears that most of the time it will get up to 2.3 or 2.4 GHz, and then it will drop down to 800, and start going back up again. It should be mentioned that I am running the A8-3510MX. Any ideas guys?

I didn't even know you could use AMD Overdrive to OC the CPU's. Does the samething go for AMD Trinity CPU's?

The answer your question though, I have been using k10stat for OC-ing the entire time and have not had any issues. It is a great program that allows you to edit the voltages as well.

Simply use K10stat and you can lock the P state, droping down will never happen again.

Does disabling ULPS have any effect on gaming performance in fixed or dynamic mode??
    I have a K53TA with 212 modded bios and 12.1 drivers.

I am asking this because Far Cry 3 is running very poorly on my laptop.

Do you have the new drivers? Also, make sure that in game you have the GPU buffered frames set to 2. For me having it off caused horrible lag.

Issue: dedicated GPU not being used in The Witcher 2.

I was quite shocked when I tried to run TW2 here and it didn't scrape the 20 FPS mark - specially considering how Metro runs at 35+ @ high and The Witcher 1 runs at 30+ FPS as well on the high preset. I popped open GPU-Z and had it log the 6650m usage, and surprise! the GPU load was a flat 0%, wasn't being used at all. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? Is it specific to TW2 or does it happen in more games? So far, I've had very satisfactory experiences, which is why I'm surprised (Metro 2033, TW1, Torchlight II and Sonic Generations).

I've just tried doing it, but there are no visible changes - be it in idle or when using a 3D application. All 'enableulps' keys are set to 0, and yet it hasn't changed yet. Do I have to reboot several times, by any chance?

I've been observing other games, now, and I notice that the second GPU - in some games - isn't fully utilized. The First Witcher has it capped at 55 - 60% load, and does not go above that. Does (sucessfully) disabling ULPS fix this?

I'm almost positive I don't . The only program that I have running is Catalyst, and I've set it so that it always prioritizes the game's specific settings rather than forcing its own. Should I use game-specific profiles run by a program like Radeon Pro or something of the sort?
