Upgraded to win10 and running fine, amd drivers work, crossfire works. Just having one issue...I can't do a clean install of windows 10, when I go to install it asks for a driver...no clue what driver it needs...anyone else have this problem when trying to do a clean install of windows 10?

If you upgraded it to Win10 most likely it's like new.
If you insist, you can go to Update & Recovery option, select recovery and then perform reset which will do a full reset of OS. All user data will be lost.

Question for you guys. Bought this a while back for the fam as I liked the specs, but I really never used it. Fan ran like crazy all the time though. They cracked the hinge so I finally took a peek at it. Bought a lower case and started the repair. The movie I watched showed how to add more air flow and some heat sinks....

Here is the catch though... I take off the current heat sinks and there is not a drop of thermal paste on any of them! I cannot believe we ran this thing for 3 years with no thermal paste. I got her all back together and she is running butter smooth. Has anyone else heard mention of pc's making it out of Asus with no thermal paste?

The only issue I am having now is the 456 on the number pad is not functioning. For now the family is just going to use the numbers up top. Not sure if I want to replace the keyboard. What are the odds the cable is in there just a little wonky and causing the keys to not function? Thanks for your time.

    Mike

    Hello guys.

I have Asus X53TA laptop and im getting atikmpag.sys bluescreen during system startup. If i disable one of graphic cards - system loads normally, but screen resolution is pretty low (due to gfx drivers turned off at one card, and code 43 on other card). It doesnt matter wchich one is turned off- 2nd one always shows code 43.

This happens, because apu and dedicated GPU work in crossfire, i supuse. Is there any way to get just one gfx to work at one time? Without crossfire? I'm trying to determine which one is damaged (apu or dedicated graphic)

You can disable it in the driver panel, but you need the drivers loaded to do that.

Exactly, so in that case it might as well be both that have failed unless you can maybe disable one in device manager?

Hello, i have bought a Intel 7260 AC + BT model 7260HMW. I have already tried 2 pieces of this device but i have the same problem: the bluetooth doesn't work......
In device manager, bluetooth adapter doesn't appear. Only the wireless device appear...... (that works well).

Is it possible to solve this issue? Somebody use this device?
I have a K53TA with A6-3400M. I have already tried Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, with latest bluetooth intel drivers.
    There is an incompatibility?

    Thanks

This looks like a compatibility issue, or ASUS BIOS whitelisted only their own WiFi modules.

    It happened before.

I never tried gtaV. I've stopped playing latest games with this laptop & just use a better desktop.
(the last games I played on this laptop were Shadows of Mordor & AssassinsCreed Pirates which both played fine.)

But here's a comparable graphics running GTA V: youtube vid of a Radeon 5650mobility running the game. Ours may play it slightly smoother & we can use fixed mode with 14.4whql drivers + use latest amd gpu DLL files for the game.

well our gfx card is better but the setup of the guy uploaded the video has an i5 which is far better than our processor.I m not asking a lot, even 20-30fps at lowest settings would be sufficient for me.You think our laptop can pull 20-30fps?

With this class of GPU, the GPU power is more important.

GTA V is very optimized, right up there with Shadow of Mordor and MGS V. I've played SoM and it runs at a solid 30 fps on medium-to-high settings. I think it will run.

Edit: I'm now trying to play FO4 on this old beauty. Managing 25 - 30 fps on low settings, some stuttering but playable. There's a UGL mod on nexus that's currently down but the people who used it said they increase the framerate by 10 to 15, which if I manage will put FO4 in the very playable 35 - 40 fps range. One can hope!

I think there are a few features you can disable in the INI which only go "low" when set to the bottom slider position which could help, this is true for AMD users too.

i have also played mgs v on this laptop at 20-30fps but this doesnt mean that it can run gta v too. They are completely different games.Gta is open world with thousands or even millions of objects that need to be calculated at any given time.F4 doesnt interest me but i wish you good luck :D

So, have you guys installed the Crimson beta drivers? We're now officially legacy, so no more driver support for us :p. I haven't tested it in-game yet but the interface itself is much better, I hope it's an improvement from previous drivers.

I've been using it for a few days, haven't done a proper comparison between it and the last driver I used, which was a mahmoud elfar mod. I'm digging it so far, though I seem to have an issue with cinematics in games - they lag and have sound distortions on occasion.

Every chip is different so you will have to test it yourself. Small incremental changes work best so you can find the exact point it looses stability, once there back off a step or two to give yourself a stability margin.

IMPORTANT ARCHIVAL INFO ABOUT OUR LAPTOP BELOW:
Not sure what is best but everyone has their favorites. Some people like 13.12whql. I prefer 14.4whql & just use the best latest DLL files placed in a each new game folder so it's using the latest graphic drivers. Older drivers like above are better if you still need the Manual selecting Fixed Mode Dgpu graphics (which required old Bios mod 212).
But if you just like having the latest drivers, then the Crimson 15.11.1 or any of the past 15.xx drivers are also supposed to be compatible(But Crimson wasn't see update below). It's still a question whether we'll be able to use the latest DLL files from future AMD 16x drivers and if they will continue offering any noticeable benefits. (But I suspect it should be possible.)

Update: Thanks for testing the Crimson drivers haymanali2006 & Link626 - and to unfortunately find they didn't work. Not sure if there is any workaround. So for now the last modded driver 15.5 or earlier drivers are your final choices. I didn't see a reason to have the latest so just stayed on modded 14.4whql.

Hi! Does someone has experienced blinking power button and battery leds when laptop plugged in? I need to plug/unplug several times until it stops doing that and starts to charge. Sometimes it does it when when I'm using it and changes to battery mode (if battery is not inserted, it just shut down) and stops doing it after 5 minutes, generally i'm playing when it happens, so i have to close my game, and wait until it starts charging again, maybe its the heat (but I have my doubts cause it happens even when I just power it on) or I don't know if its my battery thats already dying, the charging port or my charger.
Recently upgraded my processor cause it came with the A4-3300, and the only one I could manage to get a hold on was an A6-3430mx, so maybe that could be also the cause? I'm going to change it back tonight and will see if keeps happening or not.
Maybe the charger does not delivers enough power? Does anyone that upgraded their processor to a 45watts has -experienced this? My charger is the original one and it delivers 19v and 4.74A according to the sticker.

English is not my first language, so excuse me if is not well written and thanks for your answers.

I've had this issue happen to me recently and what I did to fix the problem is to unplug the charger from the power source for a few minutes then plug it back in. I haven't had it happen again since I tried that. You could also try using a different power source, cleaning the prongs on your charger and updating the bios to 214 or 214 modded. Hope this helps. Cheers.

I'm finally upgrading from this notebook to core i7.

But before I leave this notebook to collect dust,
Has anyone ever been able to get 4k video to run smoothly on this notebook? I'm talking about high bitrate stuff. like this.... http://4ksamples.com/4k-uhd-fireworks-sample/

this cpu can't handle it. Won't even play, even with DXVA set as default.

can anyone get that fireworks video to play smoothly?

Crimson(legacy) drivers dont work for us. I dont use that pc much, just upgraded to Windows 10 and using with Windows 10 drivers. I did uninstall(safe mod ddu, vs vs) then installed crimson ones, nothing happened. So i rolled back to 14.4 fixed ones. But forget to close updates , win10 updated again :) ccc version is 2015.1104.1643, and wants to update to 16.15.2211 which doesnt work for me too :)

i downloaded the crimson drivers from amd's website, and all it did was make bootup hang on black screen for a long time before desktop showed up.
downgraded back to old 14.x drivers

Tried Windows 10 redstone, all drivers installed by Windows update.( About 1.5-2gb update and drivers)
It was laggy, freezing but brightness control was working. I noticed; It doesn't work in win10 with same update drivers. I didn't try to fix, rolled back to win 10.

Just popping in after a couple of years to say I am about to win an auction for another k53ta. If you are unfamiliar with my occasional postings about my projects, don't worry about my money or time.

My first one was destroyed a few years ago and I've been hunting for another in near mint condition. The sentimental value of the k53 is right up there with my Dreamcast, so replacing it was a must. About to grab it for $71 US and it's even in nearby Seattle so I might be able to go pick it up today. Eternal joy.

haha. i hate this laptop now.

keyboard is acting up. F keys and top row of numbers, and a few other keys have to be pushed hard to register.

Not sure if the membrane is deteriorating or if the ribbon is corroded

Ugh, the Goodwill eBay store I got it from is suuuuuuper incompetent. Long story short I have to wait and pay for them to ship it even though I could have just driven over there for it. I love non-profits, but not to do business with. I would gladly pay twice as much to get something from a private citizen who stakes their personal eBay rep on their service.

    ryanlecocq,
I also bought a second one used on ebay for $120 as a spare during Christmas & just gave it away to someone in the family for simple internet use. It was in great working condition, no cracks, scratches, or worn out hinges. I mostly use this old laptop now for internet and, on the go hdtv tunercard, kodi, mkv multimedia usage, & occasional games (still have the same 20+ old pc games on the hdd :))

Maybe an easy keyboard replacement can get it back to normal. New keyboard runs $8 on ebay, but not sure you still find it worth the hassle :). If you repair it you could easily sell it for over $100.

haha. nice find. $8 would be worth it.
Mine is still in mint condition, and I can give it to my mom to replace her slowass 7 year old dual core celeron laptop.

right now, I have to pound so hard on a handful of keys, and sometimes they double type.

seeing that many people buy this kb, i guess failure rate is not low.

I just put in a cheap ssd and a pair of matched 4gb sticks earlier tonight. Looking at 3510mx on eBay. This 3400m overclocks pretty well, but I'm debating if even an average 3510mx would be better with slightly faster ram. The benefit would probably be minimal, since I don't use the onboard graphics.

This laptop pretty much just exists for me to tinker with and for my wife to play Phantasy Star Online with me, since she has Macs and it is hard to emulate. It is still managing to run WoW pretty well, but it failed the Dark Souls 3 test. Computers can either run Dark Souls 3 or they can't. For some reason, the G73jh still can, but the K53ta barely can't.

Well darn it. I ordered a 3510mx and got a 3500m instead. The sellers excuse was that they look similar and they "accidentally" listed it as a better part, but don't actually have any 3510mx cpus. So I got a refund and am debating whether it's worth opening this thing up just to see if it overclocks better than my 3400m which is functionally identical besides the unused iGPU and however well it subjectively overclocks.

Good day everyone, ive discovered that k53ta may be upgraided with external videocard via miniPCI-E slot
Will it worth it? Cost be probably ~40$ for adapter +10-15$ power supply + around 40-100$ for videocard (GTX460 for minimum)

I would not recommend this. The CPU will be holding you back the most at this point. Almost any game this CPU can handle, the 6650m can also. With a better GPU you might be able to turn up effects, but you would still run new games very slowly. Also, you lose wifi, as the k53 has only one mini pcie.

Loose of wifi module is not that bad cuz it may be replaced with usb-wifi module but low % of improvement is my main question
