I installed the 207 bios update on my F3JP and this seemed to resolve the issue. I setup a second partition and dual booted to xp. The "graininess" was back!!! i uninstalled the omega drivers I was using and installed there ati drivers provided on the asus site, and this resolved the "grainy" screen issue.

Sorry for the delay, here is the F3JA BIOS v208, try it see if it fix the graininess:

Have anyone tried this one on the F3JA? I'm kinda afraid to be the "tester"..! :confused2: -
Greetings.
In the Asus website, in the F3JP download area, there's a update:
Version F3JpAS.208 2007/05/25 update
Description BIOS 208
Support UltraDMA 6 (133MHz) for ICH7 platform.
Update ATI-VBIOS from A07314.005 to A07314.006 to disable LVDS Spatial dither function.
File Size 453.44 (KBytes)
Could this be a oficial bios with the grain problem fixed? Has anyone tried it?
Best regards -
Thank you Ken -

The 208 update definetly works?..as in colours are flat and solid and not grainy?,Awsome.
My noob question of teh day will be "How do i update my bios to 208?"
Any help concerning teh steps or programs used will be much appreciated
I just got my F3JP a few days ago, everything is going well, only thing bothering me is the grain problem, I am a graphic design student so a solid coloured screen is important to me.
Thanks guys -
I just installed BIOS update 209 from Asus on my A8Jp.
It's made a big difference in my display: clearer, brighter, more even brightness across the screen. While I don't believe I had the graininess issue others have had, The display (images, text and background) seems clearer. -
Im going to assume you have Vista since you just bought your F3? If this is the case it looks as if this update is for XP and I'm not sure if it will work with Vista. -
XP pro is installed on my f3jp at the moment.
I just don't know how to install a bios and i am a bit reluctant as i have read that it can sometimes be risky.
Is there a tutorial on teh net or can anyone help me with a few pointers, i wouldl really appreciate it.
Hope to hear from you guys soon

Does the bios208 work with Windows Vista? Who have experience with it?
-
Yes it works, but i've no ideia if it will cause you any problem in the future because i've only tested for a couple of hours.
On asus site, "XP" and " all OS" have 208 bios, while "vista" folder has 207...
Still i'm not downgrading to 207 because i use XP all the time.
PS:I've the same laptop as you. -
I own a F3Ja and I'm using 208 with Windows Vista.. No problems here!
-
I have a new F3JP and I tried the 207 bios but it didn't work. I downloaded the 208 bios from the Asus site, but when I pressed F2 it said the bios was still 207 and not 208. I still have the graininess.
Can anyone help please? -
I'm curious whether my new G1S's screen will be grainy, but then again i heard it's not really noticeable, but a bios update would be nice.
-
Sorry nevermind
I got it working.
I was pressing F2 when it was restarting, before it had even flashed. I let it restart and flash and then it shut down automatically. I turned it back on and did the F2, F10 thing.
My screen is now clean! Thanks so much. -
Just adding in flashed my vista install with 208 all os version, and yes worked a treat! No more grainy screen and it looks that much better! Infact WOW SO much better!
-
I bought a F3Sv-AP100C and screen is grainy.
It can be fixed with BIOS upgrade? I've v203, and last version is 204... -
I got a bit of grainiess in my g1s screen. Not someting noticable in game, but especialy in white I can see some graniness...I hope it will be bios fixed...cause that the only problem I had with this awesome machine
-
BIOS upgrade to 204 not fixes my grainy issue...
-
So the grainy issues with screens is due to BIOS settings ?! hmm, hope they bring one out for the G1S then, its well a bit grainy heh. Would be nice to see that fixed up among other things
-
Can someone please post F3ja 208 fixed bios again? The gentech link is dead.
-
anything for the g2s-a1?
-
-
Ok, so is the 208 all version bios update supposed to be compatible with Vista, or are people just taking a risk hoping that it doesnt mess anything up? If it can work for all systems then why is there a separate xp version? I was under the impression that the all version bios is for all the other operating systems excluding Vista and XP?
Im really curious about this because im having really bad grain issues while playing dvd's. Everything else seems fine screen wise unless im just used to this screen but, I definitely notice the grain in movies, does anybody else have this problem and is there other solutions? I have a f3jp, windows Vista. -
Bumped for the post above. ^

I tried to flash my s96j to 1201 from 1101 using WinFlash. I got a blue screen with a little red box in the middle, no text. It stayed like that for half an hour - I nearly had a heart attack.
The computer was unresponsive and so I reset it using the switch at the bottom. I had my fingers crossed and much to my relief, windows managed to start up again. I almost wept in happiness. However, I don't think I successfully flashed my BIOS. Any hints?
Thanks.

Just a note for the F3Ja bios: the 206 bios has standard speeds of 450/400, the 208 bios has 450/350. GPU-Z tells me that the 208 bios seems to contain an older VGA bios version.
-
Yes someone mention it before, 208 is a newer BIOS but with slower GPU speed, that's why I keep both BIOS on first page so people can choose which BIOS they want to update.
-
I'll have to check later if this happens with a identical laptop, F3Jp.
Anyone knows if this happens with this model? -
I'm keeping it.
edit: a X1700 != X1600, therefore a F3Jp != F3Ja, right? -
-
208 bios for F3Jp gives me the standard speeds.
It's good to read about this things i didn't knew; i'll be alert next time i have to change bios on this model or on a future laptop...
