This is alright, however no one here ever pretended that their OC is absolutely stable for everything and everytime. I personally don't play much anymore and I'm doing the OC actually just for fun and to push it to the limits. (Though I can tell you that I played through Bioshock completely with OC and never had any problems, but that's just 1 game and I don't pretend that it works with every other one out there).

Of course it's some kind of competition - but I don't have the feeling that people take it THAT serisously that they would cheat their results - I don't see any point to do so, since there's nothing to win ;D (Except maybe some little troll who was around here short time ago...)

So just keep in mind that all my OCs are 3dmark overclocks and I'm using the reading of GPU-Z which is also not correct as I just noticed. I'm having fun gaining more points than I had before just for the sake of it ;) (Maybe I'm cheating myself, I don't care^^)

Also tried 177.26 tonight - they perform quite good, but are not as 3dmark stable as 175.80 and I'm having issues with my external 22" monitor.

It's like winning coins in Mario - you actually win nothing, but you gain satisfaction you've done something great ...LOL :D

exactly, that's my point. It's a game and you gain satisfaction, but how would one become satisfied with a photoshop result? :p talking about adult people here...I hope^^

@adolfotregosa: Thanks for the point-out about Riva Tuner. Didn't know it wasn't showing the actual clock speed. Know of any freeware that does? (I'm a cheap-o)

The title of the thread is max OC of the GPU, which kinda left open to the posters how and why they do their overclockings. Be it stable with gaming, 3DMark, unstable, etc... Does a higher score in 3DMark mean better gaming performance? Maybe, maybe not. It's just something that's easily shared between people: a baseline. Not everyone plays the same games and/or @ the same settings, so comparing "real world" results could get difficult. That's where 3DMark comes in... There's a reason why it's so popular.

@Predator_MF: Love the Mario analogy... but, you get more than just satisfaction from coins... ya get extra lives too!

    .... WHAT????

Anyway, like natfoedd, I compare most of my OC's done in 3DMark06, on freeware settings @ 1280x1024(I have the hi-res screen on my G1S). As to WHY I overclock, sometimes it's the difference between high and very high settings. MAX resolution, or something lower. Choppy or smooth. Unplayable, or playable. Sometimes... It's just the challenge of "collecting those coins".

    549/900 here gets me 4700 3DMark06 in Vista 64 w/4GB DDR2-800 RAM

I can get it to 575/950, but then it actually begins to slow down.

If by slow down you mean less points in 3dMark06 , it´s because when the gpu gets to 95/96 º it will do a downclock , Try using the slipfix just put your laptop to sleep and wake him up that solves it .

Are you sure? My GPU gets to 100C at 550/900 and it doesn't slow down.
