I don't get what you mean by real life experience? I think the videos shown at Gentech PC are pretty good to show the capabilities of the N81VP. You can also check out the owner's lounge for the N81V which has some information.
I believe its a misprint.
-
specification is high enough for N81vp-c1,,
higher cpu frequency won't bring too much faster experience.
We have to make sure the inside build quality of D1 is the same as C1, as I found the cost cutting is the main trend of the Notebook builder.~ -

Well guys, I finally got around and ordered the ASUS N81Vp-D1 today!
Ordered from here... http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=N81Vp-D1&Category_Code=
Big thanks to Ken for his great help and service. I highly recommend anyone buying a laptop to check out the website.
Ill let ya guys know how it is once received.
Thanks to the comments here too! -
great to hear ^
any news on when newegg will stock this? -
I don't think they changed anything except the processor? I doubt the casing is any different?
-
Newegg now has it in stock!!!
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220567
Good news! It looks like the Ctrl and Fn keys are in proper positions based on the fuzzy top down picture of the keyboard. The C1 had them switched, and it looks like this has been corrected. -
I am confused by the weight of this laptop...Can someone confirm the weight of it for me?
So far I have found three weights listed online for it:
5.2 lbs
5.5 lbs
5.6 lbs
Does anyone know the difference? As weird as it seems, the .4 of a pound might make a difference in my buying decision.
Thanks,
Adam -
Also, do people really think that they have changed the casing for the laptop? That it is a of a poorer quality then the C1?
Thanks,
Adam -
I have a direct answer from Justin from xoticpc that says the key placement is still Fn-CTRL, instead of the CTRL-Fn shown in the pictures on newegg.
Newegg has been known to recycle old pictures from older models, and this might just be the pictures from Vg -
i'm also a bit suspicious too..
it can't be from the Vg because the sticker is a ATI Card.
did the N80s come with ATI cards? -
lol
Thanks GenTech
N80Vn = NVIDIA® GeForce® 9650M GT, with 1GB VRAM
N80Vn (LED) = NVIDIA® GeForce® 9650M GT, with 1GB VRAM -
hoping people can help me clear this up:
on jr.com, the -d1 is listed as having 4 Gigs of DDR3 memory as opposed to DDR2 listed (or spec even left out) everywhere else
http://www.jr.com/asus/pe/ASU_N81VPD1/
and on newegg the Radeon has 1Gig of DDR3 memory, as opposed to GDDR3 mem..
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220567
whats the deal here? i was about to finalize an order on the -c1, but stumbled upon the -d1 and all these incontinuities...
thanks all!
jon -
dont worry about the keyboard placement - the replacement keyboard can be bought on Ebay and has the proper Ctrl/Fn.
-
@jon, the memory is definitely DDR2.
-
-
Asus did change the KB:
-
The CTRL-FN keys are in the correct places on my C1... I ordered a C1 just before the D1 was released... I guess they started using updated keyboards toward then end of the life for the C1's...
Ken, I guess I should have waited a little longer huh... -
Thats good news Ken
I wasn't really a fan about how they had the buttons switched around on the older models on the C1.
@07torchgt
Bummer eh!
I wouldn't worry, they will release a new model soon prob again lol Thats the market for ya. As long as ur enjoying the laptop! -
true true and i'm sure i wouldn't see any real world performance difference between the two other than maybe a hair faster compression in winrar... haha...
hell, its only 140MHz difference between the two anyway
it would be different for me if they would have use a P seires processor at 25W but they stayed with the 35W -
Ken!
Thanks for all your help!
I was wondering if you could please verify the weight of the n81vp-d1...I was looking at another site claiming that the laptop was 5.7 pounds. On your site it says 5.2 pounds.
Please help me! I will be traveling a lot and 1/2 pound might change my decision to the f6ve-c1.
Thanks!
Adam -
To my friend 07torchgt...
Could you please describe your feelings on the size of the laptop?
Thanks!!!
Adam -
I think the best way to see some of the actual stats is for someone to post some CPUZ screenshots, so please, if someone has this laptop now, please post some screenshots.
-
I had a 14.1 in the past and loved the size but couldn't deal with its specs... well lack there of specs I should say... This one has all the "muscle" I need and the smaller form factor so its perfect for me...
I will say that the 16:9 screen took me a few days to get used to but its good now -
@07torchgt
Good to hear!
I also like how Asus made this 14.1 laptop with some good specs to handle lotsIts even better then my 15.4 Asus laptop which at the time was decent lol
-
The specs are good...But for almost the same price you can get the g51 with a 260m nvidia...It is really hard to pass that up for portability when some people are getting twice the 3dmark06 score
I still think I am going to buy the n81vp-d1 for the smaller size...5.2 pounds is already a lot to carry while traveling...and I am already being stupid not getting a smaller laptop. But thus, I love games... -
this thing is good for games on the go, thats why i bought it... for home i bought p7805u gateway fx... i refuse to own a desktop so for the price i couldn't pass up the fx... don't get me wrong the Asus G is bad ... I just sold my G50v before buying these... I just didn't want the possible issues the new G was having and I bought the N81 and the FX for only a couple hundred more than what the G alone woulda cost me
-
When you say the possible issues with the new G...Do you mean the heating issues it is having?
-
yeah, the single fan design, i understand it can be helped with a cooling pad but I don't need one with what I have now and I play every game I like at high or very high settings
-
Do you think it would be worth paying extra for the arctic silver paste on both the CPU and GPU for the n81vp-d1? It would cost about 40 more dollars. Would it make my computer last longer?
-
i'm sure it would never hurt, but mine doesn't get hot anyway, it really doesn't get hot while playing games either
-
Hey, I'm looking to buy this in the next week. I got alot of questions.
1.) Can anybody who owns the new N81Vp-D1 let me know how the battery life is on this thing?
2.) How does the 32 bit Vista play out when you want to get the Windows 7 upgrade in October? I would want all 4 gigs of RAM to be utilized.
Thanks -
I just received my D1 and my keyboard is Fn-Ctrl...what gives???
and My Computer says i have 4GB of RAM...i'm new to Vista (and systems w/ more than 3GB of RAM) but isn't it supposed to show less? Like 3.x GB -
It shows 4GB RAM because your Vista has SP1, with SP1 it reads physical RAM capacity from the BIOS. -
Im still waiting for my D1 to show. Ill let ya know if my keyboard has been changed.
-
I don't get the keyboard issue and why they aren't consistant... Mine is a C1 and they are in the correct spot...
-
Furthermore, has anyone tried to run Matlab on this notebook?
Thanks!!! -
windows 7 upgrade is only for 32bit
battery is 2.5hrs with battery saving mode at 40% cpu
Anyone tell me about the temp? my fan is always on but blows cold air, while the bottom is warm, not cool. is that normal? -
Finally my N81Vp-D1 arrived today!
SEXY MACHINE!
I have a review coming with more photos and information/details that I will post later on when I get some time. Hopefully this picture will help clarify the Ctrl + FN keyboard questions.
ASUS N81Vp-D1 Laptop Keyboard
EDIT: SORRY guys but I have not had any time to finish my review. I currently purchased a fix me up vehicle too and trying to get as much done over the summer. I will try to still post a review later on... Ask any questions and hopefully I can help. -
nice pics
seems that the newer shipments have the Ctrl+Fn? -
Some confusion...Ken from Gentech has a Crysis video on the n81vp that has five settings sit to medium in order for the game to move smoothly. However, Ken also have a video of the n51vn playing Crysis in which only two settings are set to medium. Why is the slower graphic cards in the n51vn, the 240m, getting better performance than the faster 4650? Or, do you think this has no relevance at all? That Ken just set the demo up to work for both systems...and the 4650 would still play Crysis better then that 240m?
-
Also,
I know about the difference in 3dmark06 scores between the n81vp-d1 and the g51...
However, What is the real world difference between the two? How many frames per second will I notice that I have lost when playing games? How much will I have to turn down the detail settings?
Thanks,
Adam -
The G51 may receive higher marks, but you're also paying about 200 dollars more for those marks. The N81Vp-D1 comes with a mouse and carrying case which would cost about 60 dollars together, and if you take the price of those off of the newegg price it comes to about 1,140 dollars. if you added that price onto the newegg g51 price, it would come to 1360.
So yes it's faster, but you're also paying a lot more for that performance.
I'm choosing the N81Vp-D1 because the size, weight, and performance are exactly what I want, and if i need a larger screen, I can plug it easily into my 21.5" 1080p monitor. -
Any ideas from anyone?
N81Vp-D1?!?!?!?
