wow, if its that much (3300 USD), im sticking with the MSI GT725

yep the version he is talking about though is the one with 4870 crossfire so that is still VERY good
Just configure a M17 with crossfire and a decent CPU and you will se why this price is good -
haha, yea. If i decide to get the W90, ill prolly get the cheap one, but i definitely want the dual 4870's!!!!!!!!!! i play fsx, the game with the worst engine....it is terrible on ANY computer with ANY processor dual OR quad OR extreme with ANY GRAPHICS CARD. It doesn't go over 25fps on high with any nvidia or ati graphics card......Hopefully FS11 will be better, haha!

You still need a capable video card for the game, so dont take that the wrong way and try to get a quad system with a slow video card though. -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
FSX? What does that stand for?
-
Flight Simulator X.
-
David, $2300 for the highest spec system? Yeah right.
I'm thinking a W90-X1 for Best Buy with one 9800M GS will cost around $1800. A W90-A1 with a 17in screen and Dual 3870s will cost $2400 and the W90-B1 with a 18.4in screen and Dual 4870s $2800.
Maybe we will see a W90-Q1 down the road. -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
highly doubt it remember best buy's X1 version of the G70s? That thing costed $2100 and had a sli 8700, 1400 x 900 screen, and a t8100
if you think about it those specs arent earth shattering im still calling over 2 grand if a best buy version comes out consider how substantially better this notebook is then the g70s-x1
Then again if it has a single 3850 it could probably be under $1500 -
The G70S was just naturally overpriced for it's hardware.
-
-
Was just in BestBuy and after getting an in person look at the Toshiba Qosmio G55 I've gotta say that even "gianormous" ain't a big enough word to describe the size of these 18.4" DTRs.
The W90 is less than a 1/2" shorter along the width but almost 3/4" longer along the depth and up to 1/2" thicker than the Qosmio G55.
I can't say for sure which is actually heavier since the G55's starting weight of 10.8lbs. doesn't specify if it's with the battery or without. -

that doesnt matter these notebook are desktop replacements i hardly take my 7811 with me anywhere
-
Hmmmm...If a desktop replacement is just a replacement for your desktop that isn't ever going to go anywhere then a new desktop would also be a classified as a desktop replacement?
Maybe I'm looking at it the wrong way though and these things are actually the ultimate in travel companions.
-Business trip? Place your suit between the keyboard and screen to prevent wrinkles.
-Pack it with your wetsuit on your trip to Hawaii and use it as a surfboard.
-With optional oar accessory use it as a kayak on your whitewater adventure.
-Going camping? Just open it up and prop it up on it's edges to form a tent that sleeps two comfortably.
-If your overseas flight goes down in the Atlantic use it as a raft.
-Plane crashes in the mountains and you can use it as a shelter to block out the cold.
All you have to worry about is it falling out of the overhead bin during turbulence and crushing a row of passengers. -
all i see is that the price must be ridiculously ridiculous!!!!!
-
If it's less I'm going to be upset. -
Here's my dilemma. I bought the HDX Dragon with it's 20.1 WUXGA screen and the 8800m gts gpu. I've never opened it. My only concern (tho I haven't tested it out) is that the march of time will be harder on the 8800m gts than it will on the SLI options on the W90.
I'd rather have a 20.1 than an 18.4, but I think about the tradeoff with the gpu. How much power do you think the W90 SLI will draw? The HDX doesn't draw too much current. -

At what you said at the beginning
-
I was trying to figure out what you define as a desktop replacement.
To me a notebook that is too large for me to ever consider moving off my desk ceases being a notebook and becomes a desktop that's just shaped different. At that point there is no difference between using that to replace an old desktop than there is in using a new desktop to replace an old desktop.
I define a desktop replacement notebook as a notebook that maintains the primary function of a notebook (i.e. portability) but is also specced well enough to take over the functions of my desktop.
To each his own though. I'm more just cracking jokes then trying to convince people that a W90 is too massive. -
not much, but at least something regarding this notebook

Anyway i think the W90 should last for a long time if this thing really gets 15,000 3dmark stock with an overclock and a core extreme you will be good for a long time.

New vid of the w90vp at CES
ASUS W90VP CES
The gaming version doesn't start until :58 into the vid. This thing looks awesome!
I was going to get the Arima 840/Whitebook, but i'm gonna wait for the W90vp, just hope it won't break the bank. -
I wonder whats the release date on this monster?
-
Im fairly certain that the X38 chipset in this thing know is just for a working design model and will be replaced in the released product. Or atleast I hope so since the X38 is an old crappy chipset. -
-
This is an insane beast! And the best part is: it has ATI graphics. (yes, I'm an ATI fanboy)
A real wannahave, but my current laptop (W2W) hasn't aged enough to buy a new one and I wouldn't want to sell it either. I don't play games thát much. -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
WOW!! Dude is that an RGB LED? Look at the quality of that screen!!
I cannot wait for this thing time to save the penniesnot selling the 7811 though
Awesome JMNA keep it up! -
If you check the reviews for some of the other ASUS laptops it's often mentioned that the screens have above average brightness and color due to those features. -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
hmmm i guess we'll have to wait until everything is announced i never heard of color shine before so at least i learned something outta this because after seeing pics of those RGB LED in actions its hard to really look at other screens.
-
i wonder how much it will be when fully loaded with the 4870x2....i wonder how much it will weigh!
-
Weight is listed as 5.2kg or about 11.5 lbs with a battery.
-
I really hope they put the x48 instead of that crummy x38.
-
I really wonder what will everyone think if Asus suddenly put up a statement saying - The W90 is delayed uptill 2010 !!!
hehe
what will everyone do ?
what will everyone do ?
-
I doubt it will be a desktop chipset at all.
Probably going to be the same PM45 that's in the Whitebook since it's the latest that supports Crossfire and doesn't have any integrated graphics. -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
i will start by killing you for bringing it up then proceed to run you over with my car after you are dead. -
I am on the fence here between Asus 18.4" W90 and Sony 18.4" AW290. But it seems that Asus is significantly larger than Sony, eventhough they both have the same screen size. A lot more space is wasted with the Asus model. Look at the frame. Do you agree?
-
Yeah that's one thing i dont like about asus, they like to put alot of plastic around the screen. I prefer the sony for looks.
-
Pictures aren't going to give you a real feeling for the size of these laptops.
-
Sony's keybooard is a little wider that why u get impression w90 is so much bigger.
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
yes sumik is right on the sony the keys are spaced out on the Asus it is together.
-
Just found something. Sony AW290 dimension is 17.2"(W) x 1.45 - 1.56"(H) x 11.4"(D). If the following Asus W90 spec is to be believed, the dimension converted to inches is 17.4"(W) x 1.85 - 2"(H) x 12.76"(D). So, the width is nearly identical but the depth is 1.4" deeper.
Asus weight is 5 Kg (11 pounds) while Sony weight is 8.8 pounds. So, Asus is more than 2 pounds heavier.

Excellent find Hendra
this one is the one with the 9800 GS it also 1gb Vram which is cool
well now i know which model is the W90VP -
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
actually its isnt believe it or not
ive stated this for a while but this notebook comes with a 3850, 9800 gs, and a 4870 crossfire maybe it was a typo for this model number then that makes sense im still gonna do some research on this model number though -
Is there DDR3 support?
-
Should be but won't know until we know the exact chipset.
-
If Asus doesn't change anything between now and the release date, then the W90 will not support DDR3 ram. Knowing that Asus has a reputation of switching components/hardware right before its release, I don't think anyone can be sure.
-
A humble falling cat would like to ask the following question -
did someone mentioned that the asus w90 will be out at about march 09 ???
thank you
