You will have to wait till May/June

Yes, late march is what Asus said.
-
Asus said they'll ship C90p in the summer 08 during CES, its pushed to march 09 according to some suppliers; though this could be very different...
-
I hope they can put it out pretty fast. Before Aion releases
-
Does anyone have an idea of how much the W90 will consume wattage-wise with crossfire and all? Even an estimate based on similar mobile rigs?
Thanks -
My estimate would be in the 100-120watt range. I'd expect the W90 to use a 120watt power adapter since that's what other SLI notebooks use.
-
So it's quite a bit less than a gaming desktop. These mobile devices really seem to conserve power.
-
Yes, quite a bit. A typical desktop GPU draw about 150watts while a mobile GPU uses about 40watts. Almost every hardware made for mobile usage will use less power compared to their desktop counterparts. This of course means that these less power components are also less powerful as well.
-
But the ASUS Crossfire seems pretty darn powerful.
What's your take on Quadcore? Useful, overkill? Do you think ASUS will offer one on the W90?
Thanks -
I don't see anything preventing this system from being compatible with a Quad core processor, even if it's from a 3rd party install. I mean, this is an 18.4 inch notebook with three ram slots with a ICH10R chipset.
-
Does ASUS support MXM, allowing gpu upgrades? The whole MXM picture is murky. I have an HDX Pavilion with an 8800m gts and 20.1 WUXGA. Theoretically the MXM III in it is upgradable, but know one knows definitively and there's no one to help. Seems MXM is a forbidden subject.
-
Sorry about the spelling. No one.
-
I'm mmo player so graphics mean a lot to me. I'm upgrading this year as I got bored of gateway 6860 and this seems very exciting. few questions for someone that bored.....
-Will it b big difference going from single 8800GTS 512mb to 2x4870 ?
-How is ati support for driver and how are their cards ? I never had anything otther than nvidia, and driver support is just massive.
-I do a lot of multitasking, like unpacking/packing rars, burning disks, and browsing the net at the same time. So if quad will b supported will it b overkill for me or will it b just perfect ? -
It depends on what you use your laptop for and what your preferences are. For a casual gaming, it might be an overkill.
Another limitation is the BIOS. Asus must release a BIOS that supports the quads/extremes in order for the system to recognize it.
I believe it's MXM, but like most MXM GPUs, the ones in the Asus will probably be proprietary; meaning it will only work for that particular model. -

Hell yeah you are looking at 2-3 times more power.
-How is ati support for driver and how are their cards ? I never had anything otther than nvidia, and driver support is just massive.
Its not as good as nvidia but most people dont have a problem with it
-I do a lot of multitasking, like unpacking/packing rars, burning disks, and browsing the net at the same time. So if quad will b supported will it b overkill for me or will it b just perfect ?
Quad is overkill period consumers dont even need that kind of power and alot of programs still dont utilize all four cores.
Hope this helps
-
Well, i'm not exactly bored, but I can help try answer your questions
Yes, the crossfire 4870 will provide better graphics performance than the 8800 GTS. A pretty big difference actually. The issue here is that most games still don't take advantage of dual GPUs, so even if the 3dmark06 scores are significantly higher, you may only notice very minor changes in terms of gaming performance. Games that can utilize SLI/Crossfire will be much much better.
Driver selection for ATI cards won't be as diverse as Nvidia, but they are still pretty good. I would think any graphics chip manufacturer would be better than Nvidia right now.... especially given Nvidia's reputation with it's 8xxx series GPUs and how they screwed the consumers.
You may benefit from a quad core, but it the price difference is huge, it may not be worth it. But like Red Dragon said, many programs don't utilize all four cores. You should make sure that the programs you use can use all 4 cores before purchasing. -
Which would be better to get ?
A Laptop with which 2 set graphic cards .....
Ati 4870 x 2
or
Gtx 295 x 2
or
Gtx 280 x 2
Thxs -
I don't think 295 or 280 are out on laptop yet ?
I think highest from Nvidia is 9800GTX, or maybe I missed the release
-
The highest card from Nvidia is the 9800m GTX. The Ati 4870 is supposedly going to be the most powerful mobile graphic card.
-
Ok, another question for anyone willin to respond
The resolution on the screen is 1920x1080, now games don't have this "specific" resolution as far as what I've seen, they have 1920x1200. So which resolution do u pick ingame to play on this screen ?
Also doesn't playing in native resolution give best results, so playing in different resolution would make it slightly less of a quality?
I'm seriously looking into buying this when it comes out so look forward to next dumb question I might think of
cheers for whoever responds.... -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
the 4850 is supposedly as powerful as a 9800 GTX so a 4870 will be out of this world
To answer your question ALL games in 2008 that i have played had a 1920 x 1080 option i use it when i connect it to my 40" via HDMI
The native thing is false play the game in the highest resolution to get the best result though alot of notebooks still cant fun some games at 1920 x 1080
i'll look forward to your next "Dumb Question"
till next time

Thxs Everyone for the Info

-
I hear a word "Quad" in there, anyone can translate what he was talking about that we dn't know about yet ?
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
i think he said it ISNT available with a quadcore
This video is awesome though they show underneath look like there alot you can open there so it should be fairly easy to upgrade.
-
I'm suprised because this is the only notebook my gf likes "lookwise". Our Gateway 6860 she hates, sagers with 9800gts or gtx she didn't like either. But this one she likes, cuz it doesn't look like it's trying to compensate in color scheme for lack of something. So I have oficial approvement to get w90

The first U.S. model will be the W90Vp-X1, being offered at a very nice introductory exclusive price. Available soon, it will feature:
1.) Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T9600, 2.8Ghz
2.) Windows Vista® 64-bit Home Premium
3.) 6GB DDR2 800 MHz SDRAM, 3 x SODIMM
4.) 18.4 WUXGA Resolution 1920x1080
5.) ATI Mobility™ Radeon® HD 4870 (x2), 1024MB VRAM
6.) A single 320GB, 7200 rpm HDD
7.) DVD Super Multi Double Layer (I have already ordered a 4x LG GWB-T10N Blu-Ray writer to replace this)
http://www.blu-raydiscnews.com/2007/05/master-list-of-bd-notebook-drives.html
8.) Mobile Intel® X38 Express Chipset (Yes, this will be the chipset.... cutting edge in mobility, this will be replacing the performance PM45 chipset in this model.)
Though this laptop allows overclocking, it can not be user clocked, but rather 4 pre-set selectable clocking modes (turbo)..... for up to a 25% performance increase.
Also, a quad can be added in the future, if desired.
Hope this helps..... ENJOY!

The drive swap should be fairly strait forward..... it's a standard 12.7mm form factor..... one screw, perhaps a bezel swap, and Blu-Ray s/ware.
-
any idea on the pricing yet ???
A Falling Cat named Spangky
9 Lives Only !!!
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Yes...... but for now, trust me when I say, it will be very attractively priced.
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
It will start at an awesome price.....so low that im gonna buy you one
Anyway, it should be really good definitely alot better then the "gaming notebooks" that they have now. I think the starting price will be around the same as the MSI GT725 but with everything it should go up quite a bit. -
vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
hmm 1.6 maybe? close to 2k?
-
If the specs are anything like what striker mentioned, I'm guessing 2.3K - 2.5K.
Seriously, the W90 is gonna replace their G70 as their flagship, and the top of the range laptops aren't usually cheap. people who can't afford that will have to make do with the G71G. -
a cost like something below 2.5 k would be good ...
i think their main target are them d900's
them d900's are around that price range ... 2.5k upwards ...
if they want to compete with them d900's ...
it would be at a cheaper cost and better performing hardware ... -
second thing is warranty ...
what kind of a warranty does them w90's have ???
international world wide warranty ???
-
All Non-bestbuy Asus notebooks come with 2 year International Warranty standard.
-
^ plus, if you are purchasing in the US or Canada, there is an additional 1 year accidental warranty and 30 day zero bright-dot protection.
-
can you please define the term - 1 year accidental warranty ???
what does the term mean ???
-
It means that if you like drop water on the keyboard or break something accidentally (basically anything physical that wouldn't be covered by a normal warranty) , Asus will fix it for you, free of charge.
-
is this only for the US and Canada ???
or
it is also available for the rest of the world ???
-
2-year limited global hardware warranty
*different by country
1-year battery pack warranty
On-line problem resolution through web interface (BIOS, Driver update)
OS (Microsoft Windows Vista) install/uninstall consultation
Bundled software install/uninstall consultation
ASUS software supporting
I checked Australia and Switzerland sites both have this warranty.
Actually the USA website has the same policy posted. So it may be YMMV and check with your retailer. -
It's laptops purchased in the US and Canada.
Just to clarify the accidental damage warranty, it covers surges, fires, drops, and spills.
