If that's any indication of what it will cost in USD, that's not too bad. Hopefully the dedicated graphics version won't be much more expensive.

what about this one?

it's sonoma with x600 gpu supposely...
if they can make it cheaper than the sony s380 then it be sweet -
ASUS website says W3000A will have sonoma and ATI 9700.
Is this correct?

Personally I think that the W3V is an enigma. Vaporware. I'm not sure why I keep putting off getting the 14" Fujitsu. I keep thinking that tomorrow is the day. But it never is.

Small review of the W3A/V http://www.trustedreviews.co.uk/article.aspx?art=1105
"The upgraded W3000s are out now and due to their user specified nature it is hard to give an approximate price. We did, however, manage to get Asus to price a mid-range setup (1.73GHz Pentium 4 M, 512MB DDR2 RAM, 60GB HDD, DVD 8x DL, 802.11g, Windows XP Pro) for £1,099 excluding VAT if that gives you a better idea? Not too shabby to us on the surface of things. We should have one in the labs soon." -

You can think it's not coming out and if you don't want to wait... don't. But I've kept you guys up to date and if you want to blow that off and think I'm blowing smoke up your @ss (as the saying goes) go get the fujitsu. The notebook obviously exists, but you won't see a W3v because those haven't rolled of the production line yet. Once they do they'll show up here just as quick if not quicker than they show up in the UK or anywhere else...... The W3v is really the heart of Asus' line up... They'll have a handful of computers smaller than it and a handful bigger...... it's going to be the computer that appeals to the smaller crowd and the larger crowd...so obviously it'll be important and it's certainly coming.
Thanks,
Justin

This is probably a difficult question to answer, but what will be the availability of the W3 (built-on Asus/barebone version)? This is the laptop that I am going to get, if I end up getting one; however, I am not in such a rush that I need it as soon as possible; however, I would like it by July at the latest.
Is the waiting list for the W3 so long that if I don't put my order in now, I won't get it by then? Or is production limited that possibly by then they'll have all sold out? Again, probably difficult to answer, but any insight would be appreciated. -

Two things......
Nothing is in writing about the W5/V6/W3 barebone.... All I know is what I've been told. I've been told that in mid to late april a varient of these complete Asus notebooks will be available as barebones, in a different skin. Until they are ordered and on the ship, we won't do an advanced order.
The complete W3 isn't up yet because the final details of price - cpu, hard drive, ram, etc... hasn't been set and won't be till Asus US places their order. There certainly won't be a "w3 barebone" pre-order up until after all the new Asus models are in...... don't want to confuse everyone.

Hi, I'm new here.
I'm going to law school this fall, so I need a laptop. I was originally leaning towards an M6, but then I decided to wait until it was closer to fall. Now my 'dream' laptop is the Asus W3V. But it seems that it may be out of my price range (1500-1600, or less if possible.)
So, do you think there will be a barebones model available this summer?
-
PROPortable Company Representative
Search the forum. A watered down version of the W3 will probably be available in barebone form in which you can configure more towards your price range. I know for a fact at the very least you're going to lose the aluminum lid and palmrest...... more changes are probably iminent, such as a regular lcd instead of the enhanced contrast glare-type screen and probably the lack of bluetooth.... But something should be out before you're ready to buy... just hold on a while longer.
Thanks,
Justin

still haven't gotten that final word - but the configuration is most likely going to be the same as the V6..... and since it's basically the system system, I can see it being the exact same price.... So if everyone figures on that, unless they lower the configuration, i can't see how it could be any less.

I'm taking a guess..... if it's the same specs and same configuration, same build quality...... say what you want, but it makes sense.
The 14" widescreen crystal view screen costs about as much as that 15" enhanced brightness and contrast screen on the V6 does.. so I think that evens it out.
But, I like the W3 sorta wants to sit between the W5 and V6.... which would mean about $2,000....... much nicer number, but I think the configuration would need to be tweaked to bring it down that far.... lower cpu, ram and hard drive would be needed to bring it down that much, I think....... now if this were the W3a, I know it'd be priced at about $1,950, easily....... but we're getting dedicated graphics... so....... I don't know.
Thanks,
Justin

As of today the Asus W3V is available in Europe. I've seen the notebook on stock at several suppliers. The notebook comes with the following specs:
14.1XGA (1280x800)-Color Shine
Dothan PM 740 1.73Ghz
ATI X600
512 MB DDRII 400 (512x1)
80GB 5400RPM
DVD Dual
Win XP Pro
Gigabit LAN
WLAN 802.11g
Bluetooth
2 year warranty
Selling price will be about 1500 euro's excluding VAT. -
1500 euro's plus VAT(19%) is about $2281 USD. So a price a little over $2000 USD isn't that bad actually[

The only link I can give you to a distributor without the need of a login is Cloetens, which is in Belgium. http://commerce.sage.com/cloetens/ You should first choose Merken-Marque-Brand on the left, next click on Asus Notebook, then click on Notebooks 2Spindle PM Dothan WXGA. The second last notebook is the Asus W3000V. Currently there are 24 notebooks on stock. Don't pay attention to the price, because it's not correct. If you are a retailer and have a login to this site prices will be different. I've got a login, so that's why I know the approximate selling price of this notebook.
I've ordered the W3V for myself, so I hope it will be here soon. -

Well if you're posting reseller prices from the netherlands, thats sort of dumb.... it gets a certain idea in peoples head.
I think the notebook will be about $2,099.00 USD here.

I don't think you read my posting correctly. These prices aren't reseller prices. Wouldn't that be really dumb from this distributor(and me)? Everybody has almost full access to this website. The prices everybody can see are a lot higher then even the normal prices. But as I said, you need a login and a password to view the reseller prices. If I would show the reseller prices I would damage my own business as a retailer.

Oh ok.. right right.. I know what you mean.. I know distributors that do that so when normal people look at their site (even though they can't buy anything) they look higher than the dealers they may be dealing with.... plus for the disty, it makes prices look better you the dealer....
But then again, you're in the Netherlands, you posting your prices may do nothing more than get people to try to get you to import them.... haha.... then they'd be in for a trip... taxes, duties, brokerage fees, shipping.. That'd get pretty out there.
Anyway, thanks for mentioning that they are showing up..... I know they've finished production, it's just a matter of shipping at this point.
Thanks,
Justin

i've given up reading this thread, but i wish Asus could read it and see the size of it! It's HUUUGE... they really ought to get their ass together and ship these laptops, otherwise quit teasing us with annoucements until you can meet the demand. Thats a dumb comment, isn't it?.... like I've said before... I can leave and you can just wait for it to come out.. what's worse? Seeing it at a computer show and waiting 6 months till you hear anything, or just being kept updated? You just can't wait... and I know that sucks and I know that I can't complain.... but it's going to be worth the wait.
Why don't we start talking up the W2.... we won't be waiting that long for that one..

No prob... no need to be hatin'
Listen, more than once, Asus has delayed a product to make sure it arrived perfect. I've seen it on the laptops, but all the time on the pocket pcs. This isn't the case with the W3v though... I think we mostly pissed because we saw the W3n /W3a out around the world way too early.... Otherwise we'd just start talking about it now that some W3v's have supposedly shown up in the netherlands (although I'm not 100% sure any have even left taiwan yet) .... But one thing is for sure... asus hasn't seemed to give a darn about meeting certain release points.... whether for for holiday... or just to be the first to get out a new generation system. Yes, this hurts them in many ways as the first to the board with something new always gets plenty of sales. But, historically, that is why people don't want the "first run" products... I've seen demo's two months before production models that are better than most companies would require before selling. Everyone uses the early adopters to help iron out bugs. If Asus did that they'd be over with. Considering the fact that they are an ODM..... don't you think since they are controlling the release of many new laptops from many new companies... if they wanted to just get something on the market quickly... that they could rush some small runs through and get them out to market before anyone else? All of the other ODM's are manufacturing for other brands..... they have to make a certain size run and then transport those worldwide... If Asus wanted to help their own brand, they could easily make the market first if they wanted to. Their own branded stuff has a smaller production run than say sony...... so things could made in a smaller quantities.. and heck.. as long as there are 50 on the first boat the states, thats enough to stasfy enough people to start getting the word around...... in a month when reviews are done and people start to get a whiff of the new model... a much larger batch will be ready to distribute.... I think if you think about it enough, you'll realize they are at the top of the food chain and they can make anything happen if they want. When you get it in your hands, they are satisfied with what they made for you.
Thanks,
Justin

Ohhhhh.. I've got some news that you guys might love. If you're on my mailing list for the W3, check your email... All I can say is that if price was going to be an issue, the price is lower than I expected and may be even lower by time they come in. Apparently Asus has been trying to allocate more units because they know how popular it's going to be.
By the way, anyone who got my email and posts it anywhere online is going to get chucked to the back of the list. The mailing list was put together so you guys could be guarenteed your units.... if the information I sent you in that email is leaked in the next couple days... I know it won't be enough time for those on the waiting list to get their orders in.. so please keep it to yourself for right now.
Once those on the mailing list get their order in, we'll post the link to the rest of the forum.
