I am totally justified in asking the "notebook god" why his info is so inconsistant. Especially after convincing the posting public that all the other venders are liars(there is big difference between the posters and the readers, I know you,re out there). Then look who lowers his price. I understand that you are protecting your buisness. Play nice.

Are you on that list? Because you don't have to be if you don't want to be.
But my information isn't inconsistant. The information CHANGED. There is a huge difference. I don't come in here every day and feed you a line of a bull. Two things changed, thats it... other things might have been effected by it, but this is the basis.
1. Thursday the 31st - Asus Taiwan is doesn't want these systems advertised as configurable and don't want to sell to dealers who are configuring them becasue in the end, the customer is calling Asus up wanting them to fix their problem.... worse off, they are stuck in another country and Asus refuses to fix their machines and then Taiwan looks to the US to ask who are you letting customize these machines? Asus said they have to refuse to continue sell to these dealers.
2. Thursday the 7th - Asus realizes their bottom line lies above how they want their product perceived. They distanced themselves from the dealers who are modifying their product and "solved" their problems.
a. Dealers who continue to modify their units have to make it 100% clear that Asus is not warranting this. Asus is voiding the warranty to dealers who modify thier systems.
b. To accomplish above and reduce confusion, Asus can't be found anywhere in the name of the product or anywhere in the advertising....... again to keep asus out of it.
c. They are announcing an "authorized" list of dealers who as a bonus will be giving the customer an extra year (3 total) on their purchase.
In Asus' eyes this kills two bird with one stone without lowering their bottom line. To be honest, the stuff that changed the following week wouldn't have changed if I didn't post what they told me the week before. Basically becasue everyone reads this forum and other dealers were probably pissed at the notion. If I didn't bring it up, it would have went public, then dealelrs would have complained, then they would have just changed it later.
Do I feel like a guinea pig sometime? I certainly do now. I feel like some of this information may have been strictly to test the waters and feel everyone out. If that's the case, I'm more pissed off than all of you combined. All I can say is that the person who told me makes the decisions and if he was forced to change what he told me, a lot more was done with my post than just a simple post to inform the forum......
As to the price.. whatever..... Asus set the price a month back when they order the units and we paid for our units with that price in mind. What's a lower price mean? Well, it means Asus US gets money back... it means we get money back, and it means the customers won't get charged as much. If Asus kept the price where it was (which all dealers who inquired about the price were given) ........ then anyone who set the price lower than that amount would be making some hard phone calls when the units came in to tell the customer the price was higher. Although it was known all along, what are the customers choices...... ok, well we have an order in here and we still want the system.... the price is going up... but everyone else is going to be the same..... It's a great way to hook customers because only a some percentage would end up cancelling the order at that point out of principle. And even the principled ones may not, becasue then they would lose their spot in line and might not be able to get one at all. Look at it that way. Our pre-order isn't anything more than a service to our customers. More time is spent working at these pre-orders than anything else we do.
Regardless, in the end Asus changed their minds to try to make everyone happy and to try to strengthen their products. Even though I'm the one who has to come forward and say, this has now changed, again (and feel like a fool).. For me to do what I'm doing I can do nothing else but feed you the information as I get it and as I determine it's accurate at the time. How do I do it? I get it from the guy who controls all of these notebooks this side of the pond that you're all drooling over. If I stuck to my guns, where would WE all be? ... at least a week behind in accurate information.
Thanks,
Justin

Anyway....... thanks for the support. It really doesn't bother me that much, anyone who wants to shoot the messenger, I guess they can. But the messenger is the one who accepts the orders for these too.... and I'm a man of principle and I'm not influenced by a bottom line. I'm working together with the customer to bring them these units and if thats not good enough for them, I don't need their order, and the person behind them will be glad to bump up a spot. I could cancell all of the pre-orders and just activate the W3v page when the units come in and then everyone can see where they fall.
It's a public service, period.

I don't want anyone to take it as a threat or anything.. but we didn't charge anyone's card... and technically have the right to cancel the orders for any reason. So... in other words... I don't work for the customer, and the customer doesn't have to buy from us...... it's more of a business relationship in which we are both equals and if one or both of us want to end the relationship before there has been any real transaction, so be it. All of the pre-order customers can cancel until the units show up and we have to start allocating the units.....
Whatever, right? Why the heck am I bothered by this?

You have to admit that for a while there the info was coming pretty fast and changing at an equally fast rate on the W3V and it's availability. Many people, including myself, got used to the regular status of how things were going. What's happened since Friday is that there is no new useful info on where they are. We're spoiled, so be it.
So, now that the W3V's are not here and it seems plausible to me that they are being held so that there can be a larger initial shipment to several vendors rather than one, how often does ASUS USA recieve shipments from Taiwan? Once a week, once a month, as needed? Even that much would help.

Well, lets put it this way... if they are flat out lying to me, we'll never waste our time with these pre-orders again.
It usually takes 2 weeks of shipping from the Taiwan plant to the facility in California. But shipments arrive once a week........... be different stuff comes on those shipments... so it's not just more of the same thing every week.

good buisness doesn't mean threatening the costomers. I appreciate the info just as much if not more than everyone else. Unfortunatly all i have to go on is one persons information. Let me remind everyone that this is not a religion and we are not forced to take everything on faith. Research can not be qualified with only one source. Yes, I am on your preorder list and I would love to give you my money. You have to give me and the people on this forum some credit, when info comes and goes, and it all over the place, what am I suppose to think? Don't threaten people it makes you look really bad. Trust me I am on your side.
-
PROPortable Company Representative
I'm not threatening you...... But I don't need any negative energy around this pre-order. The bottom line is, I am running it... it's my idea... I have complete control over it.. and you're getting information as I get it. **** happens and Asus "lose" of the W3v's (they still don't know what the heck happened with them)...... it's not just hurting me, it's going to hurt Asus as it gives someone else the chance to get a similiar product to market.
- Asus hasn't done a US press release for their mobile products..... ever in the five years we've been buying notebooks from them.
- The head of their mobile divison (the guy who controls these laptops in north america) is the ONLY person who could have and will give us information. When it tells me something and says "don't release this yet".... I can't say anything. But when he tells me that it's ok to put up on our site, it means it's ok for the forums to hear.
- In case you're wondering.... if I was told something that I couldn't repeat..... I could at the very least tell you that there was "something I couldn't repeat" ........ right now there's just nothing.
- The pre-order is meant to allow people to stop calling/emailing/questioning when they'll be able to order..... it serves as a list of who's getting what first... To order, you have to be patient and NOTHING is set in stone. So I know you're not against my here (and if you are you're just not saying it because you're high on the list []) but, there is something you have to do... and that IS take this information on faith. If you won't, then what the hell are you doing here? You think you can trust some putz from Europe who says a similiar model is a POS? If you do, you're taking that on faith.... because no one is backing anything up with figures.
- Don't make it seem like info comes and goes, ok? It doesn't. It may change and it has... but if you can't handle that...... again, get off the list and wait till they are available, or go get something else. Because if you can't accept it at face value, you don't understand the purpose of the whole process. It's not a threat at all. Take it more as good advise. The people who place a pre-order know they are going to get one of the first units to come into the states. They know no matter how it comes in, or when.. this is what they want and the just want to be able to say.. ok, I'm going to get the 10th one into the states... I don't have to worry about it any more. I know some people need these ASAP and are getting cranky, but guess what... so am I. I don't care if I am getting the first one off the truck, I'm still waiting for it. If anything I should be the most pissed off, because I've at least gotten to see a demo and I loooooooved the demo. But now the W3 might come over without the V6-type aluminum palmrest and that was something I really liked on the V6 and on the W3 demo........ so even though I've shown you guys pictures..... you don't know what it's like and you'll probably love the system no matter how it shows up... just as long as it does come in!
Cool it.
Thanks,
Justin

I've been following this thread for a couple days now (since discovering it just *after* emailing Justin about the status of the order -- sorry about that!) and finally had to register so I could throw in my two cents.
Now, let's do a little detective work, shall we?
Post 04/13/2005 : 2:21:47 PM, Justin states "shipments arrive once a week." Since the W3V shipment was supposed to arrive last Friday, I will assume that these once a week shipments arrive every Friday.
Post 04/13/2005 : 6:49:42 PM, Justin says "they [ASUS] still don't know what the heck happened with them [the W3V shipment]."
Putting these two facts together, we can surmise that until these things finally show up in port, Justin can't tell us where they are because ASUS can't tell him where they are. And since they won't arrive in port until Friday at the earliest, there's no point in continually pestering Justin. Let the poor man get some work done! He's not charging us until he ships them out, so it's in his best interest to ship them as soon as possible; he has no reason to withhold them from us, unless he's an Evil Genius bent on World Domination by tormenting his Eager Customers...... [}]

LOL... okkkkk. I don't think stuff comes every friday.... but generally it's my experience that there are shipments of some kind during every week. One time it might be a shipment of say all Z71v's.... the next.... batteries, accessories.. wireless routers and maybe a little mix of v6's and w5's... whatever...... I'm sure they share their space with the motherboard and graphics card side of the business and when there is space left in a cargo bin, they throw some laptop stuff on there.
One thing is true though.... the ONLY thing we have to go on is what Asus tells us. If Taiwan tells the US office that the W3's are leaving on this shipment.... When that shipment comes and everything is there BUT the W3's...... someone gave some BS or there was trouble in the translation. Knowing who I know... I'm not getting BS and there is no reason for BS on my side or Asus US' side. Usually though, no one is going to bother to give you this kind of follow through from the point of production to coming stateside (and after reading some of this stuff.... you have to understand why... it's impossible to predict). The only thing thats true is that this time of the year it usually takes about two weeks in transit..... Around Thanksgiving time... good luck...... 4-5 weeks! Some time is lost becasue of weather.... much more time is lost at port waiting for customs to clear stuff.
Now, I can say this... if nothing in that shipment showed up.... and Taiwan insisted they shipped....... Asus would have atleast been told it was held at port... But that wasn't the case.
As far as being an evil genius (thank you []) no.. just kidding... It's always best to sell what you've got now and not what's coming.... So the fact that I'm looking ahead makes me a bad businessman and thats really one of the reasons I say... listen, you hold it out just like I'm doing, or don't.... it's simple and easy... just stay cool and go with the flow. It's spring time and there are a lot of better things to be doing than worrying over something that we have no control over.
Thanks,
Justin

Did you just quote me by making up a quote, or did I miss something? Also, were you writing this when before I made my last post? Because I don't understand.
We're not in here talking about cars........ but since the issue was raised to me... I just wanted to make a point that I'm not a US flag wearing, dodge driving, "git 'r done" kind of guy (If you're catching my drift). As far as reliability of cars... this isn't consumer reports, ok? American cars are massed produced pieces of blah (on a whole, with some nice exceptions)... They can't compete reliability wise to the Japanese and although the Japanese are catching up to the Europeans in luxury and quality... they're still not even close on the material side (leathers and trims). But I'd still rather my Audi over a Taurus any day....
I know that US is good for a lot of things, and we are a very diverse group of people.... but we don't have many manufacturing jobs left in the US... mainly because it would cost more for us to do the same thing the Taiwanese would do...... and then we're directly responsible for the lose of jobs, because we refuse to pay the difference!
Now I don't know where you are in Europe, but I spent a few weeks in Italy last summer and I never appreciated a can of coke more in my entire life! I know the feeling, I really do..... The Europeans seem to export a lot of nice stuff here. For instance... the say I left for Italy, I saw 4 Ferrari's with in 10 miles of my home (and I'm in Pennsylvania.. and WAY outside of even a small city).... In three weeks over there, I saw 1 Ferrari.. They drive little mini ford focus' and stuff like that over there! And there I am, expecting every other person to have a highend euro sports car.

MB - I totally missed this post....
I think the guy claimed to be from Canada because I said we only sold outside of the US when selling to Canada... but he was one of those guys from Portugal..
Now that I think about it, I really wish I just point the guy out directly because there is nothing I hate more than sounding like a typical American..... When I went to Italy, I was Italian and proud of it..... and to see Americans over there was truly an eye opener (we're unbelievable jerks as a whole)... and that totally turned me off.
First.. in rome... they were all those sub compacts.. the tiny opels... the little fiats... the focus was probably the biggest car.. the smart cars... I mean they have no place to park..... Well, most of Venice doesn't have cars.... but the side out of the bay wasn't someplace I went.. When you're in Milan... man.... Believe it or not, the #1 car I saw there were Audi's.... I have pictures and I'd say out of ever 10 cars I saw in Milan... 6 were audi's... maybe 7. Tons of MB's also.... Don't get me wrong.. I did see some sick cars when I there... it was just funny that I saw one ferrari the entire time in the triangle between rome, venice and milan in the 3 weeks I was there...... and I just so happened to see a few just the day I was leaving the states.
About the poor quality of audi.. if anything I'll give him credit and take it that he's basing that on those reports about problems with cars..... the amount of problems per brand, per volume, blah blah..... I know how that breaks down..... first.. there are a lot fewer audis sold in the us than other cars..... when there is a problem, it's usually expensive (just the nature of the beast).... When you break it down, they might not have the best record for stuff like that, but it's all in the way you look at it. My car for instance..... after 5 years is expected to have one of the top 3 resell values of any car..... I'm not looking for a good investment.. but for a car that is crap... you wouldn't expect it to hold it's value like that.
......... BACK ON TOPIC!

Justin

Yes.. "back on topic" would be a good idea. I don't mind a healthy exchange of ideas (aka "arguments").. but I couldn't even follow this thing with the "lamangos" character. I believe some people are born "****-stirrers" (sp??).. and the best way to deal with them is just to ignore them. I mean, Justin you are the adult here.. don't bother throwing more fuel into the fire. Anything you say will be misquoted, misconstrue and completely not believed by the character in question. You also have quite a group of fans in the forum, so you shouldn't worry about keeping the record straight. Most of us have a good memory (and if not.. we can always locate past posts..) We all know that you have only share as much info as you can with us.
"Threatening customers" ?? .. as if.. Where does anybody comes off with that??

Technically... I can't argue with lapboy as it's still up to my discretion to accept any order... (not just yours or any pre-order).
My information is off the cuff and often writen while I'm still on the phone getting the info. If you can't keep up with (which would keep things clear), then don't read up at all.
Asus can call me tomorrow and say the W3v's are going to come in hot pink and now won't be available till August and I'll post it if it's accurate when it's told to me.
The first post in this thread (as I look at it below what I'm typing now), lists some things that I posed to Asus and asked for written confirmation (when possible)... and then asked for other questions you guys might have, that I could ask and try to take away some of the guess work........... and hopefully calm some people during the waiting period. We're all getting ticked at this point and I put off travel plans for two reasons --- I have to help get these W3's out..... and I want my new toy before leaving..... so.. I don't know what to tell you. What I have said is clear to me and doesn't really change... when new information presents itself, I try to make a new thread (like this one) to keep everyone on the same page. If just looks to me like some people can't take it. Listen.. the price didn't go up.. and you can cancel the order anytime until the units finally hit the states and we get confirmations on everything. Till then, the pre-order list is really just a spot in line.
Lets think about happier things...... Want to talk about when the W2 won't come out till? Or maybe... hummm... what Asus should build? I know the W3v was finally an ideal mix of everything that a lot of people were looking for....... but what else would be a good mix? A Tablet PC with dedicated graphics and a 17" screen? Just something to think about............
