Justin, John from Star Tech posted in another thread that at least some W3V's would make it out today. So, I was curious if anyone here was anticipating a tracking number.

So the 3 year warranty does not apply to notebooks purchased before May 1st or is it somehow retroactive for these W3Vs? I guess I should wait until May 1st to buy a W3V if that's the case...

Two years global warranty is good. Three years is even better! I was planning on ordering on Monday when I am back home. But since May 1st is less than a week further down the road I will surely hold back until I can get that third year as well.

Justin, you will keep us updated on progress with that third year, right? Most importantly if the date holds up. But also whether it will be retroactive to units already sold, any changes in price etc...

    Thanks!

Apparently that is correct...... I'm not sure if the price is going to go up on May 1st so they can help pay for that warranty..... but we have to wait and see.

I would be fine with a 2 year warranty, but 3 years would obviously be better... IF they didn't raise the price. If Asus decides to increase the price, it's not really a "bonus" at all then and I'd rather not pay for the extra year.

I don't know what they are doing yet at this point.... They've made so many changes and the price on the w3 has changed SO much since just oh.. 2 weeks ago.... that I don't know how they can afford to do it without raising the price.. but we'll have to see.

    Thanks,

I thought you cancelled your order? ... and I thought the reason was because you didn't like the looks of the W3 as it came to the states?

WARNING, this is a long post and won't be important to everyone...for those who read it, I hope it clears things up [8D]

ALRIGHT EVERYBODY, WHOA!!! Lets get some things straight here and now because I think people are getting the wrong idea about how I feel and where I'm coming from...This is the one thing I really hate about e-mails, forums and all other types of online communication...people can't see the mood you're in, the expression on your face and more importantly the TONE you're using to convey your thoughts...because of this certain things are interpreted in a completely different way then they are actually meant to be in reality...and the context of things can also be easily misunderstood and bent out of shape.
From your responses It seems like you guys think all of a sudden I'm some kind of crazed psycho who's totally obsessed with W3V/laptop perfection and If I don't get it the way I want it I'm going to be miserable, spiral into a deep state of depression, never leave home, never recover and basically won't have any reason to live anymore. Come on now!!! If I was actually making myself miserable over a laptop I'd definitely need to seek professional help and be one sorry individual! This is a LAPTOP forum and these posts are more or less specifically focused on the W3V...that's the only reason I've focused on it so much...If we were all face to face in the same room and you heard me say the things I've typed, you'd see that I'm far from upset and basically approach everything in a playful sarcastic way, It's in no way the end of the world. I've basically said a few times already that we'll just have to see what's what when Justin can get some actual quality pictures up and go from there...And call me crazy, but If I don't like that look, and I decide to go with another system because of that, that's my choice and I don't think It's that big of a deal at all. I like a few of the ASUS systems A lot...I'm having a hard time making a final decision on one (like many others are), and when the W3V came along and all the proposed pics of how It was going to look were released, I really liked that look and what it had to offer...and so from there my expectation of it grew around that look...but I still have a few other models that are right up there, and if the W3V does look like the version in the sticky, It may just sway me back over to one of the other two models I have high praise for. It's as simple as that...and because It's not here yet and things change by the day, It gives us lots to talk about and express to one another...so I had a little fun and posted my disappointments...but PLEASE DON'T LOSE TRACK OF THE FACT THAT IT'S JUST A LAPTOP AND I'M ALWAYS WELL AWARE OF THAT...most of the things I said were meant to have a sarcastic undertone (which obviously isn't coming across)...believe me, I'm a very easy going person [ :p]

I'm also curious about certain things and certain options, so I ask about them hypothetically and see what people have to say in response. To be honest I don't really have a huge interest in computers/laptops overall, I'm actually a car guy and that's where my passion lies, but I do like to research things I plan on buying and educate myself in whatever that might be as much as possible. Right now I happen to need a laptop, Once I have one, I won't really have any reason to pay as much attention to what's out there as I am now until It's time for a new one again. (I also have insomnia, not that anyone cares...but that's basically the only reason I have the time to post like I do...right now its 2am for me) On a side note, I'm so surprised that other's in here have the time to post as much as they do, when Justin posts, he's working so It makes sense, but other's are just animals!!!)

As far as the whole lighting issue goes, I respectfully disagree with it ALL being attributed to reflection and lighting alone… and also that it's really just been only ONE model in all the pics all along...in some cases It definitely is, and I understand exactly what you're saying and how that's possible...but I don't agree with it only being attributed to that in every case. Justin even said he has high res versions of all those pics and even though they're all aluminum he sees what I mean and he's "scratching his head" too. I can now see that the way I worded one of my responses on this issue could have annoyed you Sencha and could have been taken as a direct "attack" on your views, because after I had posted it and looked around, I saw that you were very much behind the whole lighting explanation...when I posted that, I only saw you say that MAY have been the case...so I apologize if it came across a certain way and looked like I was "attacking" what you said and implying that It's impossible for that to happen and that you were totally wrong (I wasn't)...BUT...again, I disagree in a few particular cases, I'm an art student and I'm also surrounded by people who are very familiar with all aspects of photography as well...so I'm still sticking to what I meant to say, and that being that along with the different lighting and reflection angles there's also two different shades of aluminum combined in all three of those models/examples...as far as I'm concerned at least. I do agree that the lighting and reflection explanation is very possible, 100% valid and could have had that impact on the results...but I don't think it's the case in every one of the examples here. about the W5, that looks fine to me (Aside from the camera and thick LCD frame) because it's all white, so the lighter aluminum surround doesn't contrast with the overall light coloured exterior of that system...It's all uniform in the same way that the darker shade aluminum is on the W3N...does that make sense now? I just prefer a uniform look, so lighter shades with lighter colours and darker shades with the darker colours. That's my preference. If the W5 had a darker aluminum touchpad surround then I wouldn't really like it either.

To address the whole car example, I don't really feel it applies here, (I understand what you’re trying to say to me on a whole)… but according to the pictures we had before the W3V arrived, they did configure it that way/offer it configured like that, or at least that’s what we were led to believe...To give you a car example and show you why I don’t like this styling...to me It would be equivalent to an All black car with white door handles, or even one of the windows/window surrounds being a very light colour that visually contrasts with the rest of the dark exterior. I also don't have a dream machine, but I do have a preference and up until recently there was a very good chance that my PREFERENCE was exactly what we were getting in the North American W3V (like pictured on Justin’s pre-order page, exactly how It LOOKS there) which other people also seemed to prefer...It's not like I made up this ideal laptop out of thin air and hoped ASUS would read my mind...and now that It might be different I'm going to be miserable and depressed...Up until a few days ago that's the system we all thought we were going to be getting as our W3V. So I don't think it’s fair to twist things and say that I made something up that never existed or that I'm after/locked into "a futile pursuit of an illusive perfection". As far as I'm concerned ASUS led us to believe one thing/portrayed one version and decided to ship another...which is fine, but MAY affect my decision.

Bottom line, all that really matters is whatever arrives, arrives...and from there I'll make my decision. If the W3V shows up different than what I expected will I be a little disappointed, yes, Is it really that important to my overall existence, no. All the ASUS models are pretty awesome, I want one that will satisfy my main needs, as well as fit in well with my personality and self perceived image...whichever one I decide that Is, I'm sure I'll be very happy with AS IT IS...It never hurts to ask questions and explore possibilities though and that's all I was doing. I hope this novel kinda sets things straight for anyone who actually cares and took the time to read it all.

I just felt I was being misunderstood to some extent and wanted to clear things up. I'm sorry for making that post so long and kinda personal for everyone else viewing the forums...that's why I put the warning at the top...

Anyways, when do you think you'll have the first "official North american W3V" pictures up for us Justin? [8D]

Whoa... don't bring my name into a huge post like that, lol. The point of the forum is for just that... to talk about this stuff and figure out what you really need in the end..... Everyone in here is looking for an Asus or has one, so we're all in the same boat.

I hope getting that off your chest helps you out in the end. [ :D]

Yeah, If you looked closer, I wrote all that last night at 2 am in response to some of the posts...but then I got too tired to go over it once before I posted it...which I wanted to do just incase...So no, I hadn't seen the pictures yet, I don't think It would have even made much sense If I had right? It might have saved me time, but I still wanted to clear things up so...

I had just found them after I posted the NEVERMIND response...hence the nevermind...kidding...Even though I'm disappointed with the version we got...I'd still like to see some good shots of It next to the W5 If that's possible when you get the chance...can you also include a CD case or something for a reference to size. I'd really appreciate it, thanks [8D]

    I don't, should I?

I do have a crush on the W3V. I have pin-ups on my wall. I have made shrine for it. I light candles in the shape of a W, a 3, and a V and have blue lights in honor of the blue LED lights on ASUS laptops. I also have started wearing wider, larger size 14 shoes(although I really wear an 11) to show my appreciation for the 14 inch widescreen.

Tonight I will sacrifice a virgin in prayer to the laptop gods in hopes of gaining their favor. Oh God of ASUS, why must you torment me so? You provide an unobtainable dream laptop. Why hast thou forsaken me?

How difficult is it to add an add'l ram in the W3v?

NOTE - I am aware of the warranty rule. Thank you.
