Hmm I wonder if the NewEgg Duo equipped versions come with the BB motherboard version?

As for the motherboard issue, we'll just have to wait for someone to get an X* model and tell us what the revision number is. -
.....still waitting for my friends A1 gets here ...than I will be starting to tear it apart ...lol
-
Hehehe, listen to you all..."the screen is too big", "I don't like the shell". "I like the white from BB" you are so funny! Are you buying by the looks or by the power and hardware? Last time I checked that is what really matters, or not?
Lets talk about the much better CPU you are getting, the much, much better screen, the "no tax" in most of the cases, the BT, the Quad support... -
Trentbg, some counter-points to consider, even from someone that just ordered it:
1. That resolution may be so high that it hurts FPS. I'd rather have FPS over sharpness. Other people can just plug their BB G51's in an external if the image quality is that important.
2. The shell gaudiness is a factor for some who don't want to attract attention in public places. I'm going to keep it at houses/apartments so thats moot for me, but its a valid concern for others.
3. There is no tax but there are shipping charges.
4. Not sure if there is quad support for the X1A's. When I get it I will run off the numbers. Forge, where are those numbers in the back? I don't have void anything to see it right? -
Currently I have a G1S and G50VT which both have 1680x1050 and I never play on that resolution, always on 1280x800 for better FPS, so far I have never notice any discomfort from downscale, boost your AA and AF and you are good, I prefer to have 1980x1080 because it is not all about gaming, right? I do a lot of Dreamweaver, so more space on the screen is welcome.
Regarding the Tax and the shipping, the shipping is always less than the tax you would pay.
Wen it comes to having the laptop on a public place, I have never seen some one to play at Star B, or a library, so who brings a huge gaming laptop on a public place anyway, there is a lot smaller and cheaper solutions. -
Thats good to hear that the G series works well with lower-than-native resolutions. That will probably be something I'll do with games that are text-reading heavy (WoW).
That whole "gaming laptop at the library" concern was just me basing it off of some other posts. When I was at college I didn't see it either, but through reading these threads I assumed that there are some people that find it an issue. -
also shipping is cheap, 17bucks. My SC tax is 7.5% i believe so thats around 100 bucks. Plz i hope someone can give me some insight into this tax free thing. is it a newegg special or a special b4 skool time or what? -
From a majority of states, you can buy things online without tax. You don't need to do anything special: they will simply not charge you tax. Someone will have to confirm with me, but SC is like this too.
-
I can confirm.
-
I got my G51 for $999 so an increase of $350 to the G51VX-X1A would upgrade my CPU from a P7350 to a P8700, a decent upgrade, and a resolution upgrade to 1080p.
Now the question is, is that really worth it? I really don't care for WUXGA screens at all so the 1080p is negligible for me. So I'm basically paying $350 dollars for a P8700, which I can get for much less online, and I am getting a really really awful lid. -
-
Regarding the online sales tax, it varies from state to state.
I can say that Maryland does impose a sales tax online. -
Yes thats correct, you just need to calculate shipping and you should be good to go.
Speaking of tax, Tavash I do think that you made the right decision for that $999 price. Unfortunately with PA tax the current $1050 bill would go up to $1113 for me. Going up to $1333 (bing included) was less of a leap. It was a $220 increase. -
For the Best Buy one, they are taking pre-orders for the G51 for tax free weekend, which if you decide on the BB one, I would recommend doing because tax free weekend is going to be busy as hell...Its going to suck to have to work it... -
what perfect timing .. i was just on newegg last week looking at laptops thinking next friday i am getting a new asus laptop .. all my personal pcs are asus motherboards .. well this is my first asus laptop and last week i could not find one that had a graphics card that could handle Age of Conan without buying a 2000.00+ quad-core ..
well i am not an expert on laptops but i do know my quad-core pc runs a bit hot so i wanted to stay with a duo-core laptop ..
well this morning i came back to newegg and lo and behold look at the new asus laptops .. i ordered the X1A just now .. i researched that video card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M at tom's hardware and a couple other reviews and found out this card is better than a NVIDIA 9800 GTX!
guess what the reviews says about it:
The performance of the GTX 260M is somewhat higher than with the 9800M GTX due to the higher clock speed. For current DirectX 10 games like Crysis, World in Conflict, Bioshock or Age of Conan, the performance of this graphic card is sufficient with medium and high details. Older games run fluently with high resolutions and full details. The memory equipment is up to 1024 MB GDDR3 (up to 950MHz in MXM 3.0 boards and up to 800 MHz in MXM 2.0 boards).

perfect just what i needed at a great price! way to go newegg and asus coming through with the uber laptop! thanks for that .. -
Dear SteelersWorship, despite the fact that you are new in the forum I can see that you do not have any knowledge or experience with the subject, so please try not to give your "professional" opinion.
-
First of all, we assume that this newegg dual-core model have Quad support, but it has not been confirmed.
Secondly, no online sales tax is not in most states, just some.
Thirdly, some of us here also would like to use the laptop around the university (in library at classes, ect...) and don't want a laptop that screams out I'm a hardcore gamer to everyone around them.
Fourthly, you contradicted yourself by saying that everything is about your hardware and then proceeded to say in a later post that gaming isn't everything. Dreamweaver certainly doesn't need a GTX 260M and there are plenty on mainstream laptops that are much cheaper.
Fifthly, you basically confessed that your WSXGA+ screen isn't used in gaming and is for dreamweaver. The majority of people do not use video, photo, or other editing software on a frequent basis enough to justify the 1080p resolution. It is somewhat subjective, but alot of people really feel that such a high resolution maxes everything looks too small on a 15 incher. -
I don't understand the mentality of wanting to hide who you are and thats why a person wants the white lid. You are a gamer if you are buying this laptop, be proud of who you are!
Also on the screen rez I would bet the argument is split fairly evenly between the two thoughts. For me the only thing holding me back from buying the BB version is the screen rez. I use my machines for more than gaming, such as Office products and programming and for those uses the higher rez screen is a godsend. -
Nothing is Real Notebook Evangelist
I wouldn't assume any of the G51s other than the A1 have quad core support.
-
Here we go, all the Best Buy users are now jumping high
No tax you are saying it is for some states? hmmm, if by some you mean 47-48 yes, please check with NeeEgg policy before writing down (btw, the original thread is for NewEgg).
If you do not want your gamers laptop to scream "I am a gamer", paint it over, clearly Asus, Alienware, Dell XPS are not going to make plane black or white shells just for the 5% of users that do not want to be noticed.
About your "Fourthly" comment, when spending all that money for a laptop a person would want more for less, he or she will be able to use it for everything, gaming, work etc.
Now you are not trying to convince me (may be your self) that 1366x768 is better than 1980x1080, I want to see when browsing how much more are you going to see compared to WSXGA+ screen? So gaming is all you do with your G51, nothing else?
And finally, yes I would prefer much bigger resolution than white shell, not to mention that T9600, Q9000, and P8700 are much better than P7350. -
anyway could i see the page where you said newegg policy has no tax?? cuz its also where i wanna buy games instead of amazon. GoW2 Special Edition(its unfitting that i love the game so much but i only have regular..). Thanks for your help anyways.
yea and i agree, FULL HD is awesome in web browsing. Try checking out those screenshot threads with a low res...FULL HD is one of the main attractions to the newegg g51vx. -
SACH7002, I would consult a Tax Professional in your state.
In Connecticut (as an example, because I'm from there), you might not pay taxes on Online purchases when you make those purchases. However, when you file your State Income Tax at the end of the year, you are required to pay a "Use Tax" to CT which is the same amount you would have paid in Sales Tax if you bought the item from a CT retailer. (more info here: http://www.ct.gov/drs/lib/drs/publications/pubsip/2005/ip05-17.pdf)
I'm sure plenty of people know that this is a requirement and don't pay it (assuming they won't get audited).
Rule of thumb: Don't believe all of the tax advice that you get from a bunch of techies on a laptop messageboard. -
I'm not in denial about my gamer status or anything like that but just because I'm a gamer doesn't mean I should flaunt it around. -
I for one can speak "as an older person" that we (insert generalization here) are not put off by those who we perceive to be gamers, many are gamers or have friends and/or family that game.
I know a lot of gamers that are movers and shakers in the financial world, medical field and even in (gasp) higher education and they obviously don't discriminate.
I truly am sorry if you have professors, teachers or TAs that would look upon you differently based on which G51Vx lid you happen to be behind. I am not naïve and do understand that not everyone is as comfortable with certain situations. Most would agree that from a social perspective talking aloud about last nights ball game wouldnt draw as many raised eyebrows as talking about ones latest World of Warcraft guild raid; however one cannot ignore the fact that gaming is coming on strong in mainstream society. One only has to watch a World of Warcraft Mountain Dew prime time commercial to understand.
Just like cars and clothes, people are going to have different opinions on what is more personally pleasing, just try not to make it personal. -

How exactly are people getting this tax free and how can I join them? Take is like 9% here.
-
So for E-Tailers like NewEgg, GenTech, etc they do not charge "upfront" sales taxes as part of an online purchase (unless you happen to live in California where they are located)
However (states tax codes will vary) many states have tax laws in place that require an individual at tax time to disclose any online purchases so that a state sales tax can be levied. I would assume that a vast majority of people either ignore, or are ignorant of this fact.
So not in CA buy from NewEgg or GenTech and don't pay upfront taxes. It might not be "tax free" but "tax deferred". -
Why does all the Newegg models have the ugly blue lid? they wont have any white ones?
-
Not everyone finds the white more pleasing than the blue or at minimum find the blue to be ugly in lue of the while not being available in the model with the specs they want/need.
I would be more curious instead of continuing a debate of "which looks better" which can only lead to more thread tangents; is to try and find the answer to.....Is there anyway to buy either the white or blue lid seperately and replace the lid you currently have and might be unhappy with or to get the one you would rather have.
Just like cars people take some things/possessions personally. I mean jumping into a Ford thread saying "why does my dealer only carry the ugly Blue Focus" might put off a few people that happen to own a Blue Focus and "gasp" actually like how it looks. -
Warhammer40k, I like your stile, we need more people like you here. You are right, that is not a beauty contest. Some like white some blue, personally I prefer to know what is inside and how it is performing.

Taking a gaming laptop with exterior lighting into a law library is like taking a disco ball to church. Its not appropriate and no one wants to dance.
Trent, the next smart thing you say will be the first. True story. -
guys, please STOP the personal attacks. we're all here because of a shared enthusiasm for laptops and what makes these beauties purr. check the baggage at the door.
-
Every model X1A, X2A, A1 and even the RX05 have exterior lighting that cannot be defeated. Its not even a question of lid color or Robotech design (white lid G51-RX05 vs. Alien design (black/blue lid G51-X1A).
The G71 models also have exterior "bling" lighting that cannot be entirely defeated.
Now to be somewhat constructive.
I have checked with Best Buy Parts Department and they have "zero" parts listed for the RX05 model at this point. Not to mention in speaking with the very nice person it seems they rarely have parts listed for ASUS products. So BB will not be a place to go if you want to try and acquire a white bezel for a non BB model G51.
I have also checked with ASUS (two seperate departments). They also have no bezels available for the G51 (G60) at this time. It wasn't ruled out that in the future they would be availble considering that they are still trying to manufacture the parts necessary to fill the demand for complete G51s. It will not likely be soon before the supply exceeds the demand so that they can focus on stock pilling extra parts for reorder. -
It would be nice to see if someone that has both the G50 and G51 could try to swap the bezels and see if they fit alright. That would open a few more options.
-
Robotech is awesome.
But trying to get this thread back on topic, regarding the NewEgg postings:
Anyone have any thoughts of when / if Amazon or the likes will get it?
Trying to gauge when the price will go down. Not saying the price is bad, but toss in an Intel SSD and the price total increases. (Specifically the X1A for me.) -
The X1A looks like a good deal. Very comparable to the M860ETU.
Too bad they're coming with that horrific lid. Oh yes, my opinion has the right to be stated. If you don't mind the lid, buy in peace. -
Also it was interesting to hear that to the ASUS Tech / CS / Pre-Sales areas they were all surprised to hear the G51 had any other bezel than the White/Black. They were all under the impression that the White/Black was the only one being used in the release of the G51/G60.
The only reason for me that I might consider trying to acquire a white lid to replace a black/blue one (if I end up with one of those models) would be because I can't stand finger prints and I have found the white bezel of my G51VX-RX05 shows fingerprints sooooo much less than the black bezel of my G71 (BB model). -
or maybe you can just go find a completely blank lid somehow and mod it ?
-
Im sitting here thinking the next refresh will see the G51VX-X1A up $50 to $100. -
got to love it when you get deployed ...so don't have to deal with all these taxes bs ...lol
-
A possible option for those who might prefer to roll "incognitio" when gaming on the run.
Just trim it up to fit, while I don't see the trim part to be a breeze I am sure the results will be nice if patience is shown.
I think I might try it regardless of the model I end up with, for no other reason but to repell those nasty little finger prints. Not to mention its not that much.
For the Black G51 bezel maybe something like this, just cut around the side lights and ASUS Emblem.

or just a solid for 2/3 the price. -

You know, I wouldn't have minded the reseller lid. Not that I'm unhappy with the cool white lid.
But to each his own. Honestly, the opinions of people who will point and laught at a light-up laptop lid don't mean much to me. -
The X2A is looking mighty fine......am digging the blue design on that lid too.....now if I only had the cash to burn
-
FedEx just dropped my A1 off at the house!!!! Time to open .......!!!!!!
-
so the way its looking is that the White lid is only for the BB model?
-
Another question: How's the Eee stick? anyone tried it yet r did everyone just throw it back in the box. Also, the provided mouse is comparable to which retail model? It looks a lot like the Razer Copperhead
EDIT: Also, how is the battery life? is it really that terrible (for A1)? -
Regarding the lid switching, I don't really why it won't work except the BB model has the LEDs. It would probably work fine on the reseller versions except you'd be able to see through a bit. For the BB model, a reseller lid may not work since the LEDs might require a special design on the lid or something like that.
Newegg now offering G51VX-X1A; X2A; A1
