    *Joins the waiting line*

I agree.. the lack of information is driving me insane!

As said, this should come to markets before end of this month because it won the award. If this beauty would have at least 5 hours of battery life it would be the juiciest notebook ever. Come on Asus, enlighten us and reserve some money from our pockets!

I'm giving Asus till July 5th (when the Red Dot awards are officially announced). If there is nothing about a release date at that point, I'm getting something else. Probably an Acer Timeline 1830T or 3820T (whenever THOSE are available, at least they've been officially revealed by Acer).

I just bought the 1018PB at Best Buy and it is amazing! It is absolutely perfect size, shape, and weight. I just wish it had ION. HD video stutters a little bit. Anyone have any updates on when the 1218 release date?

    Here's my theory:

Asus knew they weren't going to meet that July 1 deadline. After they won the Red Dot award, Asus released the information early to get all the press from it, knowing that the award would later be rescinded.

Even if Red Dot retracts the award, the press and hype-machine have already done their job, and people will be waiting for the laptop when it actually comes out in December.

If it is not coming out until December I am definitely not getting this thing. One of the reasons for wanting it and wanting it this summer was it would represent the newest technology in netbooks. What was it supposed to have, Atom N450 and Ion 2?

If it comes out in Dec it will probably be just an average netbook in terms of specs.

Design will only get you so far, I won't wait 6 months for an average netbook, spec wise.

December? What the hell is the hold up? I think I'm just going to go with an HP Mini 311. You can get 25% HP discount right now, so a base model will cost $300. I have Win 7, 2GB RAM, and 320GB 7200RPM HDD to add in there anyways. Sell Mini 311 in December or January and buy Eee 1218 if there's nothing better for the price.

I for one ain't waiting till December for a netbook which doesn't age that well to begin with. ASUS lost a customer with this one; I'm just going to invest in an iPhone 4. I don't know about watching high definition movies with the new iPhone 4, but you can sure as h*ll record it. :D

Heck, do we even know it will be out by December? (I've seen the Lamborghini by Sept and the 1215 by December, but nothing even remotely firm about the 1218.)

So, yeah, great idea...great performance for its class in a very sexy package. I would have bought one on the spot. But by the time it actually comes out - assuming it actually does come out (see Acer's ION2 netbook being pulled) - who knows if it will still seem as nice relative to the competition.

It's actually the end of August, but that's better than the rumored release date of December. The specs look really nice and for below $500!! That's awesome! Now Asus needs to reveal more info about the 1218.

Am I right that 1218 won't have anything else improved except the alunium case and everything plugs to the back? In that case I can't see why it would come out by december. If the release date is further than 2 weeks from 1215 I'm switching for for it..

Well Asus, I just ordered an Acer 1830T. I had sure hoped to be able to give you my $700 but I'm tired of waiting for your vaporware. I hope you're happy. I know I will be with my core i5 packing ultraportable.

We know that Asus 1215 comes 23rd day this month at least in europe but I haven't heard a single word of 1218. After all it should be almost the same packet except in alunium case.

    Any rumours out there?

Had a chat with ASUS Scandinavia today. They told me that it probably wont be on the market before Nov at the earliest (in Scandinavia), and maybe not even before 1st quarter 2011.

No offical specs are out, but probably close to 1215.

Nope, I for one have given up on the EEE 1218. Might as well buy a used Macbook Air (Version 2.1) or something and install Windows on it. In the end it'll have the same graphics, but a heck of a lot better CPU.

Found some info here on the specs but who knows how definite this is.

I really hope the final release will at least have the same cpu/gpu specs as the 1201N.

even i thought of macbook air but the price is really high.EEE 1218 should be half that price around 600$-700$ and also there are no much ports for macbook air,no ethernet, one usb port is damn less even though aesthetics wise its the best.
EEE 1218 should have good looks like macbook air(might not be that thinner) plus more physical ports including hdmi and lower price.but the thing which i ll really miss is backlit keyboard of macbook air.

btw is there any laptop under 700$ max with backlit keyboard with screen siz under 13inch???
i can only think of alienware m11x for 800$.any others available??

@dune10191:i feel the specs on EEE1218 ll be better than that is mentioned in that website.
i am guessing 1218 specs similar to 1215N

I agree, the 1218 will most likely have the same specs as the 1215 or the ASUS VX6 that has the new USB 3.0 ports and has bluetooth (1215 doesn't have those).

    On a side note the ASUS VX6 is now available for pre-order at ExcaliberPC.com for $699 "vx6" | EXcaliberPC.com

if 1218 has same specs as vx6 it would be really nice.actually VX6 was showed at comptex in june and its already for pre order.
this 1218 was known for red dot design award in april and its got no news whatsoever till now.

anyway i hope 1218 ll be at 599$ or less considering this VX6 is special lamborghini edition

Maybe they have to push the 1215 for longer then they thought. If they announce now it might hurt their 1215 sales numbers. I hope it is till in the works. It will be the perfect companion for my new Nokia N8 :) I will be waiting

I think there's no more need to wait. There's already a new 11" MacBook Air with NVIDIA 320M graphics for 720p/1080p hardware acceleration. It's made with a single, all aluminum body. I'm pretty sure it's thinner and more good looking than any netbook Asus will make in the near future. Just use Boot Camp to install Windows, and voila!

Ummm, $1000 vs $500 notebook? I dunno. Just for the record my latest issue of Maximum PC reviewed the 1215N and give it a 9/10 rating. Biggest issue was battery and lack of bluetooth. But battery life was at about 5.5 hours not bad at all. Plus the user reviews I've read most complain about keyboard flex. Wonder if there's a quick fix for that.

Really? The 1218 offers comparable specs (assuming Atom N550 or better and ION2) and an equally sexy enclosure. And it'll cost at most $600 (fingers crossed). This puts the 11" Air in a way different price category. If it had the guts to justify the price I'd be all over it, but I just don't think it's sets itself apart enough from the higher end netbooks.

    /end 2cents

i like macbook air 11 a lot ;) .just that price is out of my range and also i dont like OSX.i ll take air for 700$ :D even considering the OSX is not the best i like.

btw if 1218 comes out for 500$ or max 550$ i ll be happy.
actually its not fair to compare core2duo with ssd of air with an atom with hdd,but 1000$ is not justifiable for non upgradable hardware  and lack of ports(not new to apple but need to pay to get ethernet usb adapter, vga adapter to make presentations.hdmi adapter to connect to TV).

so hoping to see air like notebooks in coming future(others manufacturers obviously follow apple) :D

I guess you guys are right. MacBook Air's price is too steep, a whopping $1100 if you include tax! And that's only the very basic model of configuration. It's just that Asus better deliver and actually make the 1218 a reality.

    Join the queue friend.

Looks like asus is pushing a slew of tablets around xmas (digitimes link).
I hope the 1218 slides in there somewhere too.

I'm not holding my breath though, just crossing my fingers and toes.
