Has anyone heard any news on when the 1218n is most likely to be released?

Do you think it is worth waiting for or should I just get the 1215n instead?

    Thanks

From the sounds of it, the 1218n is just a 1215n in different clothing with all ports on the back. So unless you're really set on that design, I'd say go for the 1215n if you are ready to buy.

I am still waiting for something like the 1215n with a better CPU. I would love an 11.6" or 12.1" with an i3-330um with ion2 for $500, heck even $600. That would be my perfect machine.

But what about Optimus? A dualcore (even an Atom) plus ION/ION2 isn't exactly great for battery life, expecially for a netbook.

Atom dualcore, ION, and Optimus is what I'm going to demand in a netbook.

I love it! I used to have the 15-inch Lambo and it was hot, literally and figuratively. :p

But I think I might go for it, and report back on its own owner's thread. :D

If this gets Atom it's going to be a big yawner even if it comes with a GTX 460m. I'm thinking Zacate myself.

it's a yawner waiting on the thing to be released or cancelled. I think it's a foregone conclusion that it (if it ever is released) will have an Atom processor. All the eee's do, it seems. If it's soon, it'll probably get the D525.

Sad day indeed. I'd like to have an official confirmation, but really, as long as we've gone without any news it almost had to end like this. I'm going to go laptop shopping now.. . .

Dang. It probably would have ended up being a $700 Atom powered netbook which most likely would not have sold well.

It did look nice though. I'll be hunting for a Sandy Bridge netbook though. I just don't want Atom. I want i3 and decent GPU. I might bite for an Acer 3820TG if nothing decently priced becomes available though.

idk if anyone is still here, but I just came upon this
ASUS Ultraportable U36 to Battle MacBook Air

Looks like the meaner, uglier, and stronger brother of the 1218. Maybe just more vaporware, but, if not, it could really be a mb air alternative (destroyer) if the price is right.

That's probably not what it'll look like. The image on that site is simply an illustration of something similar, in this case being a previous generation ASUS Ultra-portable notebook.

    Drool...

Dang, that looks nice. I think I might have to return the refurb M11x I just bought and wait for this! I don't need all the power of the M11x just want to game occasionally, and looks like this would manage what I need. A lot smaller and lighter too. Optional 8-cell too! Woot!

    edit: gah! $999!

A little pricey... think I'll skip.

No bluetooth 3.0 .. i need it for my Nokia N8! I tired it with a Asus EeePC VX6 Lamborghini and the transfer speeds are way faster than 2.0.. no need for USB cables..

Really sad for the 1218, it was looking really good

I've not heard anything official, only rumors(from this forum).

The fact that Asus hasn't said anything about it in so long (if ever) should be a good indication.

Also, if it doesn't show up at CES, then it's probably dead. And it looks like Asus' focus has kinda shifted from netbooks to crap tablets for the moment.

Who knows. .. maybe they'll unveil the 1218 w/amd fusion proc at CES. Not holding my breath though. In fact, I bit the bullet and bought the 1215 about a month ago. Enjoying it so far but still trying to forget the 1218 :(
