I don't know, that sounds like a likely disk problem to me.

i think that was the initial speculation of everyone but after seeing pictures of the laptop and the actual battery itself, i would like to believe that it is a 6-cell and not an 8, or they could have squished in 8 cells in the very tiny battery pack.

though 6 would not seem so bad as long as it can reach 4 hours with casual use (and not power-saving use)

We'll see next week, as the seller will confirm whether its 6-cell or 8-cell when stocks arrived.

Well... the most important thing is, like I mentioned before, the voltage of the battery pack is seen to be ~11.6V, which means that it is either 6 cell or 9 cell. A 4 or 8 cell battery is 14.8V. These are nonnegotiable characteristics of the chemical cells, please look for my earlier post if you want an explanation.

In any case, if the laptop is seen with a 6 cell configuration, then there will likely be no 8 cell configuration. They'd have to redesign the power system to accommodate that, which I doubt they would.

While I have no concrete proof, something tells me that the N82 will come with a 6-cell. I just don't see them releasing an 8-cell for a 14 inch laptop.

Unfortunately ASUS has me hooked because I could be in any one of a very large number of countries in the next few years, so that global warranty is necessary... but if you're listening, please, please hurry up! You're losing customers by the day!

Yup, in Malaysia, i5 520M version for MYR 3999 or around US$1200
Stocks coming next week according to one seller I asked.
There's some links to the sales thread in my previous post recently.

Can anyone speculate what this would translate to when released in the US? ie: Have Asus laptops historically been a certain percentage higher for previous models?

And when do we get this sucker here? Any US dealers have them for pre-order yet?

Yes. It's almost certainly going to be the 335M. An ATI GPU would mean no Optimus.

I think that's just how it is with ASUS. I don't think they bother to control how their stuff comes out on the market, so you'd expect the stuff to come out in Asia first because that's where everything is made.

I know, but it wouldn't be the first time ASUS pulled a switch on us in the US.

I present to the court Exhibit 1-A: the ASUS G51JX with an i5 CPU. It was sold for a short time in the US, but then ASUS pulled it (whereas it was still sold internationally).

Exhibit 2-A: the HP Envy 15 with an i7-620 CPU. It too was sold for a short time in the US, but is no longer available.

I should have specified an i5-520M. They used to sell the G51 with that i5 but not anymore.

The i5-430M is closer to an i3 in terms of abilities. I would rather get the i3 and save a few bucks than an i5-430M. Of course, I would rather get the i5-520M or 540M over the i3.

Nice. considering that the N61JQs priced out on those sites are 1200 euros I think the chances of us getting the N82JV in NA for ~$1000 is very good :)

Killer laptop for sure. I just want to know the battery life, and the heat, as those are the two things that stopped me from getting a Lenovo Y460
