This is just sad. There was so much hype about this laptop and i was ready to buy this baby but there isnt even a release date yet. ASUS blew it. I am now planning on buying the Envy 14 in 3 days :)

Asus releases their laptops only in their world magazines and you can not bet whether it will be really launched for consumers or not :D

Guess we'll see reviews of the Envy 14 popping up soon...is the 3820TG out yet? Or is it copying Asus and only out in specific countries?

HP Envy now comes with i5 so it lost all its gloriousness, at least in Europe. Best thing to do, is to get a high end desktop and a netbook.

OK, apparently I could try to order the n82jv directly from malaysia

reason not to do that? Will the keyboard not have english characters?

Malay language use alphabet 26 characters :p. I doubt you'll get anything different from US/EU release of the laptop.

Well, the German keyboard layout is QWERTZ, so it's different.
Good to hear the Malaysia layout is the same as US.

Amazon has the n82jq on the site!!! Although they don't have them in stock, but hey, it's a start! The envy 14 is also on amazon, but it has a different screen than the one on the hp.com site; it's 1366x768 instead of the 1600x900... Why?!

ok today i went to the local computer center in Singapore, funan, and found many shops have no stock. i believe they don`t have it yet rather then sold out.

it is going for 1998 SGD, at that kind of price i could just go for g73 with another 500sgd top up -_- g73 no usb 3.0? express card for 70sgd allow me to have 2 usb 3.0 :D

*edit, arghhh crap g73 has no express card slot -_-

i do saw the ul30 jq, it is using i7 620m, cheaper by 100sgd...

and wow!!! amazon price... guess i can really give up on local seller of n82jq

Looking at the photos of the side of the laptop, it looks like the tray
face of the tray loading 12.7mm optical drive is angled down from
left to right. Does this mean aftermarket 12.7 drives won't fit, or will
just leave a gap on the left side?

They do offer a blu ray player as an option, but they don't say the brand.
I was favoring the panasonic UJ-240A since it will read DVD RAM.

Agreed, that's confusing. It touts optimus as a feature, but they're only
offering 45nm quadcore chips, which I thought didn't work/have integrated
graphics. (Or is the integrated graphics somewhere else?) Perhaps
the ad pump sheet is generic for the whole N82JQ/N82JV line?

Why does God hate the 32nm i7-620m? That was what I was looking for.

Our specs show it is a standard sized ODD Drive. Usually only when you go to the ultra thin "UL" series you see the thinner drives being used.

OK, maybe I wasn't clear. I wasn't asking about the size of the drive so
much as what appears to be a custom bezel on it as shown in the photo:

It looks like the tray front (bezel) is angled left to right. How would that
impact replacing the drive with a standard 12.7 unit?

When a drive is customized we move the bezel from the stock drive over to the new customized drive so it retains the stock bezel and look. Does that answer your question? :)

One question. For those retailers who offer different CPUs--like in this case,
there's a choice of 3 different CPUs, do they have different piles of laptops
or are they actually switching out the CPU when the order is received?

Reason I asked is that I thought laptop CPUs were soldered and cannot
be replaced (except by an expert solderer). On the other hand, if they're
receiving the laptops with the CPUs, then how would a retailer know the
correct mix of CPUs before hand? Do they just order a lot of each?

I'm interested because I'm still wishing for the i5-540m or i7-620m rather
than the quadcore choices i7-720qm, i7-840qm, or i7-940xm. I'm fairly
sure from research at this point that none of the quadcores will support
optimus, which means your battery life is doubly cut. The quadcores are
older tech (larger process) so burn more juice, and also no optimus.

N82JQ-A1 only comes with one CPU the 720QM from factory, resellers does all the upgrades and i-7 CPU is not soldered on the board, only the SU series is.

i5 will need to be tested first because on Asus notebooks the mainboard for i7 and i5 are different.

You are right the i7 does not support Optimus.

I think dual core i7 can support Optimus as it has embedded GPU inside it.

Is it really an i5 vs. i7 difference or an optimus vs. non-optimus difference?

For example, if I found a Core i7-620m, could you install it in the n82jq?

Depending on the province that you live in you may have to pay PST or GST. There's no duties as notebooks aren't dutiable. With Xotic PC the only price due to us would be for the notebook plus shipping. If you select the UPS Express shipping, there's no brokerage fees and you receive the product much quicker.

OK. Can we say, Asus is cheating or making false promises by not keeping their words ?

They had shown the world, in their world magazine that N53 will have both i5/i7 processors and will have option for Full HD screen.

But what we are seeing at XoticPC-PreOrder for N53 is that, no option for dual core i5 processors and not having option for Full HD :(

    Am I missing something ?

Im a bit annoyed...I would love to get one of these, but the only 2 reasons i would choose it over the HP Envy 14 is because it has Optimus and is cheaper.

All i can find at the moment are i7 versions, which kinda shoots both of these +ve's down pretty quick...

The current stock of N82 at Amazon have only quad core i7-720Qm, which CAN NOT have optimus technology as the processor does not have embedded GPU.

ok i just got off the phone with Asus and it turns out there not releasing the n82 in the uk as theres never been a big market for the 14" notebooks. They said that they have no plans to release it in the uk in Q3 or Q4 so that shows that they're not releasing it in the uk.

I think i'm gunna go the Acer 4820tg which is ACTUALLY in shops.

Plus Optimus seems alittle scary... abit new untested!?

Optimus is fantastic. I use it on a work laptop, it had some problems early, but its seems to have been fixed up with the last couple of driver releases.

From what i can tell, the computer seems to be able to tell very well when to use the dedicated card and when not, and the switch is seamless, no bumps in performance or anything. Certainly very effective in battery life, the ASUS UL80VTp im using can last 6 hours pretty comfortably browsing and doing work related stuff, wi-fi on and 80% brightness.

But nowhere is Malaysia seems to ship internationally :(

I can't believe they think that, I've had a W3J for years and its a great size, big enough to have powerful components but still small enough to be relatively mobile.

Might see if I can get a Colleague to buy one from the states for me, if its not coming to the UK.
