I'd bet a fortune that the Envy screen will absolutely crush any iteration of Asus' 1366x728 screens.

My brother finally gave up and ordered an Asus U30JC. His compnay will only buy Asus because of the warranty. He waited for the N82 since January. He'll probably be happy with his U30JC.
Bronsky -
A very long wait with no end in sight. Very sad.
I'll get whichever is released first. -
The N82 should be out in the states soon. It has been out already in my country for several months, but then again, my country is Taiwan and that's ASUS's headquarters. I'm probably going to check it out tomorrow, any of you have any questions for me to keep in mind while I'm there?
-
All I wanna know is when exactly will it be released? I hope they don't give you that Q3 garbage for an answer.
-
-
I'm not waiting for N82 as much as you guys do, but ASUS Taiwan, China, and Indonesia already have their N82 page done.
-
Taiwan has? I check the Taiwan page regularly, and haven't seen it.
-
cooldra1: I just checked and it's on the Indonesian site. After looking at the press shots on the website I'm disappointed that it has that newer 2 row Enter key. This could be a deal-breaker for me and it sucks because this is such a great laptop.
-
-
Edit: Saw the wierd enter key on the global ASUStek site as well, so guess it's not only Indonesia. -
In fact, that enter key is pretty much the standard in Europe and many other countries...
-
-
sadly asus indonesia would not be bringing it in, not even the bamboo series
was hoping to replace my ul80vtfor n81jq, guess my nearest option to get it is via singapore. -
i dont get it...
why are taking so long!!!
-
i can get help you guys get in from malaysia
its i5 520m+gt 335m in here price rm 3899 which is ~usd 1100 -
o yeah even in singapore, n82jq is on preorder state -_-
im in dilemma should i go get it or not during the pc fair, it is 1998 singapore dollar + another 99 singapore dollar for 3rd year international warranty. -
in Malaysia its already selling here from March
-
@genocidew My advice would be to check out the laptop for yourself. I've been testing around with one recently, and like it a lot. The only part which I dislike is the ok battery life. Around 3 hours for web surfing, but that's a 6-watt battery. Display is fine, although one could always hope for higher resolution.
@Riddhy916, more around 1200, but still a bargain! I think the reason its out in Malaysia so quickly is ASUS has a lack of their so called "multimedia entertainment" notebooks. But $1200 for a i5 and 335! Are laptops in Malaysia always this cheap or is this an exception? -
it depends on specs we dont get all good regional specs from all brands
currently only good specs wise we have
y460 i5 540m+5650 at around usd 1050
n82jv i5 520m+5650 usd 1100
vaio ea i5 520m+5650 usd 1130
these are well specs at a reasonable price
so you guys want to order n82jv from here? -
Would seem like a good idea, but I'm still waiting for my laptop to die
.
-
for everyone out there with an n82jv..i would like to propose a statement about the nvidia optimus..many forumers state that optimus is not working properly..for example, when launching games it still remains on integrated graphic and makes hell lot of lagness(there is no way to manually switch on/off the graphic)..and nvidia has not release any new driver update yet..one thing for sure...many n82jv users are totally pissed off with the optimus..for now the only attraction of n82jv is the usb3.0 assuming that it is compared with other 14'' out there..
-
Lenovo outlet has the Y460 refurbished for $712. Looks like a nice price for that kind of power (I5-520M/HD5650).
-
Concerning Optimus, is there no way to have it set to always be on integrated or dedicated, without any automatic switching?
-
-
Nvidia released new drivers for Optimus about a week ago which fixes the problem.
-
What happened to this notebook? Where the hell is it?
It is really amazing how many units introduced at the computer show last January have not yet found their way to US shores.
Bronsky -
. Still, top notch 13-14 inchers such as N82 or Acer 3820 have been out in other countries for weeks...shortage of i5/i7 cores?
-
so any idea how long it is still us/aus see the laptop in stores???
-
I am thinking mid-August they will release it.
-
While we're all waiting for this device, can anyone shed some light to help me decide if N82 is worth the wait? Currently, I can see these 4 notebooks (some already out, some at least have a proper release date) that have similar specs...
Switchable graphics:
Acer 3820TG
HP Envy 14"
Optimus:
Asus U30JC
Lenovo IdeaPad Y460
What are the pros n cons of these, compared to the Asus N82? I'm liking the USB 3 + Optimus, making it more futureproof than the rest, but is that all the diff? -

God I feel bad for anybody waiting for this notebook. It is been forever. At least the Acers have been distributed around the restof the world adn we have an idea of what we're waiting for. Perspective Asus buyers are the longest suffereing on this site.
Potential UL30JT buyers even have a poem about their long struggle waiting for that unit.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/6355132-post2698.html
You all are in laptop purgatory. BTW, the Lenovo has switchable not optimus. The 3820TG has the best cooling system of the lot and can perform at the absolute top of its thermal envelope without throttling. The Envy has the best display and is hands down gorgeous. The N82 looks like a nice unit but I am not an optimus fan. USB 3.0 would be nice. -
There's some news I read that Y460 is equipped with GT330M and Optimus...
Big downgrade I must say -
Bronsky -
and in Malaysia, Y460 has been discontinued, I hope its not a bad sign.. -
What the hell? I thought the Y460 is supposed to still come with an HD5650. What's with the 330? Is the 5650 really overheating that badly?
Anyway, I'm just glad I gave up on the N82JV back in .. April when the GX640 came out. Need to remember that I was all crazy about the N82 at one time. Hell I started this thread with information I dug up all over the place online. Sheesh. Asus really dropped the ball with this one. Big time. They can't even blame anyone else because even Alienware beat them to it with the M11x. And Asus is supposed to be faster on picking up new components than other companies. -
Buddy, congrats with your GX640 and all, but you should know not everyone who buys a laptop is from Canada or the States.

And also puts it in competition with Sony Vaio Z, although Sony Z is twice as expensive.

Mine is on the way from Germany.
It is also listed on Acer USA site in the HD5650 Configuration.
Between that and the Envy, looks like there is finally something to buy. Speaking of which, where is this computer? Is it ever going to be produced?
