Compared to other 14 inch gaming-ish notebooks, I find the battery life to be quite good. I get 2.5 hours of video and 4.5 hours of internet surfing. Anandtech says thats a bad thing, but if you want better, you'll have to go for a smaller laptop or a worse gpu.

But yeh, the screen is not superb. Though it's not so bad for casual gaming and movies.

    Did someone delete my post?

I'm trying to figure out why there's no owner's forum, and why this
is still a 'waiting for' thread? The N82JV/N82JQ has been shipping for
    more than month.

If these questions are inappropriate, please PM me instead of wiping out
    this post.

4k's a bit low but I didn't get into any crazy optimizations. Otherwise it's blazin.

Just setting up my new N82JQ-A1. Nice little machine that seems to be well built against the others that I have had. I will say though that ASUS AI Recovery disc builder sucks! I gave up after trying multiple disc types. It always gets stuck somewhere. I'll skip it and just buy a win7 OEM disc if I run into troubles and have to reload.

Edit: jus found all the nice links here to do a clean install and download win7 ISO etc. so new plan, clean this thing up!

On the right side of the laptop under the flap covering the 2 usb ports, would a nano receiver fit with the flap closed or no?

That would be cool, but no. A logitech or MS nano receiver sticks out just a bit too far.

Finally got this n82jq-a1 all set up. Pretty impressive laptop. Ran a 3dmark06 of 8760 and runs the games I've put on it so far really smooth. General work on it is amazing! I always catch myself saying holy cr$p this thing is fast.

Was that 3dMark06 score without any GPU Overclock?

Oh and I use profiles so the OC only kicks in when a game loads so as not to shorten the already short battery life when not gaming.

The campaign ran well on all high settings. I tried a small overclock midway through. I'm not sure it made a big difference.

I do recommend watching the cutscenes on ultra, which is possible with some frame drops.

Is there any significant difference between the N82JV-X1 and the K42JV-X1?
There's a sick deal on newegg for open box K42
    Newegg.com - Open Box: ASUS K42 Series K42JV-X1 NoteBook Intel Core i5 450M(2.40GHz) 14" 4GB Memory DDR3 1066 500GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M

I've been researching the past few days to see if there's a discernible difference between the two models and the only thing i can find is that the N82 has a little door for the ports on the right side. Is there any difference in build quality or is it safe to pull the trigger on this??

Received both of my new N82JQ-A1's last week. Haven't had a chance to open them up and test them out yet because I've been waiting for my replacement HDDs and RAM to arrive. Once everything's here I plan on swapping out the HDDs with the new Seagate Momentus XT 500GB drives and also swapping the standard 4GB of RAM with new 8GB G.Skill RAM. I'll do a write-up when all's said and done, maybe even with pictures since I'll do the upgrades one laptop at a time and could take notes the first time and then document the second.

Question: Does anyone know why there isn't an official N82JQ thread? It seems inefficient to lump the JQ's in here with the JV's. Is it bad form for me to start a new JQ thread when my write-up's ready?

Does anyone here know how to get rid of the on screen notifications when you volume up or down or mute the computer. It's pretty annoying to get it over most of the screen every time the volume is changed. Would be better to have just a small bar in the corner or sth like that.

    regards
