Well the K51 is supposed to be paired with an AMD CPU and I recall people getting disappointed/turned off by that so I'm hoping it's the new Tigris platform rather than the Puma one since we alreayd know Puma is a bit of an underperformer.
-
-
Everything is still speculation but as long as it is a least 2.0 MHZ (hopefully higher
) It will be great.
Puma, Tigris whatever just give me a CPU that wont bottleneck the GPU to badly -
true, i just want more options to be released now >_>
-
I'd just like it to be released period lol
-
Really? I would like it to be at least 2 GHZ...
-
+1, can't wait
-
Well there's more to CPUs than clocks. Just look at those new Intel CPUs coming out with 1.33GHz and 1.66GHz clocks >.> And they still beat quite a few CPUs with higher clocks than them.
It'd be disappointing for Asus to include a CPU which would bottleneck the HD4860 so hopefully they'll think "cheap"(to reduce costs) but not that cheap lol
-
I thought the last batch of Griffin cpus started at 2.0GHZ. So, unless they use 2 year old Turion X2 instead of Turion X2 Ultras they are guaranteed to be at least 2GHZ.
-
Yes they should, unless they use those cheap Athlon QL-60s, but I'd doubt that.
What's concerning from the older Puma platform is the inefficiency of the chipset. They produce lots of heat and draw more power than their Intel counterpart for the same performance(not to mention Intel still has an edge clock for clock in terms of performance). -
Ah I see I didn't realize the Athlon QL series was a part of the Puma line.
In terms of power draw I agree, I thought the same thing though I've read that Asus has listed 5 hours of battery life for all the K series. Perhaps the 5 hours of battery life really only pertains to the Intel versions, but one can hope =) -
Sorry man my bad, yes I meant GHZ, what can I say it was way past my bed time
-
It looks like the 17 inch K-series notebooks come with HDMI according to this. There's still no news whether the K50AB has HDMI or not, although it looks like the other 15 inch laptops don't have it.
-
dissapointing to say the least. I really hope that in the event the 4860 doesn't see the light of day in the K series, they'd at least use it somewhere else. Like a new 14'' gaming notebook.
-
I doubt they can fit it in a 14" (thermal budget wise)
-
Kind of funny how this thread was started in March while the G51 thread was started two months later, and is out today.
-
yeah man lol
-
Well to be perfectly technical, the K series IS out. It only happens taht the few models(notably the K51ab) aren't and those are the ones people are most excited about. In terms of the "K series", they were out before the G51
-
well the g51 isn't out in canada yet, im slowly keeping updated from my local retailer.
-
I hope the k51 come out soon. I want to compare it to the G51 specs and price.
-
idk if anyone mentioned it yet, but the K70I(with the GT120M) has been spotted in Canada at NCIX and microinformatique.
-
The only problem is the GT120M can't even come close to the potential power of the ATI 4860.
That's what everyone is really waiting for. -
took the words right out of my mouth
-
Oh I know. But the K70 was one of the models along with the K51 that hadn't appeared from the K series. If this one came out, the K51 mustn't be that far behind that's what I meant ^_^
-
We can only hope
-
This is the reason why it's taking so long for k51ab. http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20090619PD210.html
Not because of any tigris platform or anything. -
here comes Kirov Class shooting my hopes down for tigris..... At least the k51ab is coming i guess
-
It's coming in August if the 4860 isn't produced in big enough numbers.
-
o so theres a chance that it might be released earlier?
-
Definitely, I think the only conclusion you can attain from the Digitimes article is that there would be limited stock of the K51AB were it to release before August.
-
It all depends on how they allocate stock between the 4770 and 4860. The 4770 is in great demand right now and is backordered for days, so expect the memory chips to go there first.
EDIT: Plus the new 4890 is still a hot seller. -
Finally something that makes a lot of sense!
Gives us some hope of a US release -
What's the best video card taht comes on the 14 inch version?
-
The best GPU I have seen on the ASUS K40IN-A1 was a G102M, which is nothing special.
-
The 14" ASUS N81Vp-C1 comes with the 4650 1GB DDR3 and a 2.66Ghz T9550 for $1299, while the N81Vg-X1 has a P8600 and 120M GT for $999.99.
-
You can get the N81Vp-C1 from places other than Newegg for less (e.g. GenTech PC)...IIRC Newegg stopped selling them anyways.
-
Technically speaking, it will be coming in August if 4860 is produced in big enough numbers.
That's because the report says production yields won't see improvement until August, implying August is the soonest.
Even then, it may take longer for the yield to improve to a certain level after the initial boost in yield. -
still haven't an expected date is always more comforting
-
i hope that they change the hd4860 to a 250 GTS ddr5 1gb vram
-
Howitzer225 Death Company Dreadnought
Yup. The new 200M series are just awesome. The ASUS K40IN-A1's 102M is just like its predecessor, the 9400M..an integrated GFX card.
-
Why?
The ATI 4860 should be much better -
Howitzer225 Death Company Dreadnought
Nothing really. Just an Nvidia fan here.
But yes, the 4860 is a way better card. What K series model will it be used?
-
It was first announced in the ASUS K51AB but no confirmation if it's comming to the US yet.
-
Well for one thing, because the Nvidia won't come with Puma CPUs...
-
Still nothing out yet
-
yeah... i hope that it does release
-
oh crap, i think i've fallen so far behind? can somone tell me what the 14" spec will be like?
-
Do we have any further updated release information other then sometime in July? Or, is this false?
Thanks,
Adam -
Is the K51AB even coming out in the U.S. I heard so many rumors / talk about how it's not going to come out.
-
I just got an email from GentechPC that said the K51AB is not coming to the USA.
-
yeah I got the same message from them a while back
what a shame
